Why can’t we just keep town clothes the way they are currently? Have your fancy new interface, great, awesome, love it. Let me toggle to switch to my “alternate clothing” like I do today. I have a button that lets me swap to town clothes.

I’m a roleplayer, I roleplay a guardian. There’s no reason my guardian should ALWAYS be locked up in heavy armor.

“Hey Imogen, wanna go to the park, play kickball with the guys?”
“Sure! Let me just strap on 45 pounds of steel.”

“Haha, that kickball sure was fun. Drinks at the Maiden?”
“DUH! Just let me go slip into my drinking armor real quick. It’s a little less spiky so I don’t accidentally poke somebody’s eye out. You know how I get.”

“Shannon just invited us to a picnic on the beach, want to come?”
“Of course! Let me lock myself in an even thicker tin can so I can be SURE to get dehydrated and collapse in a heap.”

Or I guess I can just go everywhere naked.

Well, tough, from now on your characters are always “on the job”. Apparently, there is no such thing as leisure time for a GW2 character… :\

Anyone else feel like this idea contradicts the concept of “Living World” since now it’s on a schedule.

I do.

As for the mega boss fights… Oh well. It looks like they’ll be getting even harder. I guess I’ll get “Wurmicidal” out of the way asap and never step foot on the map again.

And bosses start every 15 minutes. So if you haven’t finished Jormag, you can forget about Maw for another 5 hours.

This. In order to get boss chests at all, I see myself becoming a total slave to the timer for the 2 hours of play time I have each night… I guess I can get some of the dailies “on the way” or in between boos fights, but the reduced flexibility really interferes with WvW or PvP that I can’t just jump in and out of from minute to minute. I don’t see it being fun. I see it as being able to use my limited play time a lot less efficiently, thus getting less gaming out of it.

Of course, starting every single world event every hour would probably be a bit overwhelming and spread players quite thin. We have therefore adopted a set of rotations to control world event activations in this new system.

Honestly, there is a lot of grey area between “every single world event every hour” and “only one world event at any point in time”. With the new way players are distributed to the maps, I don’t think they would be spread out too thinly even if boss events overlapped.

So: I don’t get why there is a five hour gap between mega world bosses after the rotation. Just keep rotating them. Or have them ALL spawn every hour. There is enough active GW2 players to populate all three fights every hour, with consolidated servers.

With my weekday playtime being 7-9pm CET, I will never see the face of the karka queen ever again… or the mega destroyer… or Ulgoth…

  • Waypoints — All contestable waypoints on any map you’re not currently playing in will always appear contested. When you arrive in the map, you will be able to travel to these waypoints pending their local status.

What is Sad Keanu sad about?

He is losing this outfit on the 15th. I hope you’re happy ANet. Keanu was already sad about his sandwich. Now this.

Personal Stories - 2014 (Begins?)

Pixelpumpkin.4608

Here’s what I think.

Continuation of the story as “personal story”

  • Limited to one format (instances of 1-5 players)
  • Said instances are a couple of minutes long, each
  • Little replay value (if replaying is even possible)
  • If it is released at once, I would burn through it in a weekend and then be bored for the rest of the year
  • Spoilers would be inevitable

Continuation of the story as “living world”

  • Regular new content would mean that I can’t burn through it, no boredom
  • Much time for speculation, little chance for spoilers (except datamining)
  • A surprise every few weeks
  • Various different game modes and formats, including: cinematics, solo instances and boss fights, party instances and boss fights, dungeon paths, fractals, raids, zerg content, PvP maps, riddles, etc…

The personal story concept is way too limited – I like how an overall story ties new maps, features etc. together.

I read somewhere that dye would no longer drop in world. How true is this? What is the reasoning behind it? Can the community do anything to change your mind?

The reasoning is that once dyes are “valid” account-wide, the ratio between supply and demand will be skewed. Less demand = oversupply (not to mention the actual oversupply through all the refunded dyes). Removing the dyes from the loot table is supposed to lessen the impact on the economy.

I think it’s a bit of a shame as I was always excited to randomly pick up a dye, but oh well, can’t argue with their case in this instance.

Clothing was meant to offer visual options that break the class roles, however we were never completely happy with the way it was isolated from the rest of the game

But we were! That is exactly what I wanted from town clothes, and what I got.

I liked your entire post, but felt like highlighting this.

ANet, you may not have been happy with your own implementation, but you happily took my money. Now you change some items that I bought and that I felt were in my possession, that’s really not a good feeling at all, and some of us are not even getting the money back, and that’s, well, honestly, super lame.

I want to be constructive and forthcoming, but I’m really mostly disappointed that I have something that I invested time, money and creativity in and that I’d assumed to be able to use indefinitely, actively taken away from me. I haz a sad.

It is not just “some combinations” that are no longer possible; it is almost all of them, even if I didn’t count the dye jobs. And honestly, the entire concept of costumes is not for me.

I am not looking for a way to turn a dungeon run into a costume party and fight along a few more chefs and pirates, all of who look the same (no custom dyes) and none of who has any hair on their heads (seriously!!). This, for me, is akin to buying a cheap. low-quality Super Mario costume at Walmart and then finding you’re one of five identical Super Marios at the Halloween party.

This is not the way the GW2 community, has, so far, used town clothes. We have used them to take the parts and creatively turned them into something new, awesome, and individual. We came up with our own combinations to create a multitude of unique costumes. Something that expressed our characters’ unique personalities, far beyond “chef or pirate or witch”.

To suggest that costumes would ever make up for the loss of that shows, I think, that the devs were ignorant towards the way the town clothes were used so far.

As somebody who has always mixed & matched town clothes, and paid real money for individual items for the exclusive reason to complete such mix & match outfits (for example to dress up as Ellen Kiel): this is super, super not okay for me.

We will miss out on the following:

  • Costume / cosplay competitions. No more Spider-Man or Lara Croft.
  • Outfits for roleplayers. Both mix & match AND dyes matter
  • Dressing up as dorky tourists and taking awkward photos with in-game celebrities.
  • Buying an entire outfit just because we like one item (e.g. the pirate pants)
  • Dressing up for special social occasions (anything from valentine’s day to birthday parties) will become a lot harder
  • Wearing an outfit but without the stupid hat that removes all hair; basically an issue for 9 out of 10 female and I assume many male characters

Honestly, the tonics solution sucks. If we would have been able to transmute any town clothes item onto armor (yes, even at the price of more than one “charge”), everybody would have been happy. Instead, an entire dimension of the game is essentially removed. Unfortunately, it was one that many players were happily using (and happily spent $$ on).

I know that many people have already voiced their dissatisfaction with this solution and all points have probably been made, but I wanted to go on record.

Jumping Puzzle Title

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Pixelpumpkin.4608

Pixelpumpkin.4608

It could never be a title for completion as ANet adds new jumping puzzles every now and then. It could only be a title for doing so-and-so-many different jumping puzzles, which means it would be hard to get in the beginning and somewhat trivialized as new jumping puzzles are added to the game. Some would be hard (like the Aetherblade one) and others easy (like Under New Management).

I don’t quite like how some of the achievements and titles are structured, this is one reason.

I just came back after a break and this event has already started so it will probably have a week or two left. Is there anything recommended to do, before this goes away forever? And what do you do in this event as well?

  • Beat the watchknights (fights start on the hour) and do the subsequent hologram fight once, for the story (also story achievements).
  • Take part in any LA champion fights (champion spider, etc.) if there is any groups going, for achievements.
  • LA: If you pick up any “heirlooms” (rubble piles and LA random drops), spend them before Tuesday. (The only thing you will be able to get now, I think, is alliance supply bags as you won’t be able to collect 250 of them (price for the halo/horns potions))
  • LA: If you find any “belongings” (LA random drops), spend them before Tuesday. (Spend on ascended recipe IF you ever want to make an ascended spinal blade back item; otherwise tomes of knowledge, imho.) —> I THINK you can make spinal back pieces later, IF you have enough spinal blades. They are account bound, drop in LA and also from the sprocket thing in your home instance if you have that.
  • PvP: spend any leftover glory. You can get PvP armors (including cultural armors). There is a reddit post on “things you should pick up before Tuesday in PvP”. (I spent all my glory on tomes of knowledge though.)

And tried this again – all eyes on my combat log.

I was hit by ultraviolet blast, and some dynamic AoE, and Scarlet herself. Definitely no lasers. Never got dazed. Never went near a scorchmark for 5-10 seconds after they vanished. Did not use turrets or any summons.

No achievement.

That being said, something hit me early on and threw me back from the prime hologram/center, I took damage as well – no idea what it was, as there was no visual cue at all, and neither was it in the combat log. It took me for approximately half my hitpoints, not that the combat log noticed.

So I’m going to conclude that this is bugged in some way or other and not bother with it anymore.

Anti-Condition Feedback

in Battle for Lion’s Arch - Aftermath

Posted by: Pixelpumpkin.4608

Pixelpumpkin.4608

I think the worst part of this is all the ppl telling us to do “support” based stuff. These fights are already hard to do enough dmg to get loot when i do nothing but attack on my engi. If i do more support based stuff like the elixer gun i would never get loot from the fights.

That’s plain wrong.

I main a condi engi (traited for elixirs), and haven’t had any problems at all getting loot from these fights.

I use elixirs to support the melee players, and the rest of the time I attack with my range skills. The bosses don’t really attack ranged players, so the only damage I take is from my own conditions. I make sure to only put as many conditions on myself as I can easily outheal (especially since I use elixir gun etc. anyway).

Then during the two burn phases, I throw all my other condi skills on the boss (bombs, elixir gun, etc.) and watch her melt.

I don’t feel useless in this fight at all. If you think that the boss design means that you shouldn’t bring conditions at all, then maybe rethink your strategy. All it means is that you use different skills and ranges in the different phases, which is very, very okay for a boss fight.

ANet, please clarify on laser achievement:

in Battle for Lion’s Arch - Aftermath

Posted by: Pixelpumpkin.4608

Pixelpumpkin.4608

Soooo… up on Scarlet’s drill, I am confronted with the following:

  • Big laser beams from center hologram, telegraphed by orange AoE lanes
  • Big laser beams from center hologram, without AoE lanes showing up
  • Scorch marks from big laser beams
  • Invisible scorch marks, lingering for up to 3 (?) seconds
  • AoE by static, dynamic and synergetic holograms (cone attack, fire pools, stomps)
  • Vertical “target” laser by the entrance and exit (super not awesome when you’re fighting the blue hologram by the way)
  • Laser beams from small white holograms
  • Lightning strikes (towards the end of the fight) from the ceiling, not telegraphed at all and therefore impossible to dodge

So, which of these excactly will I have to avoid in order to get the achievement? All of them? Only some of them? I’ve tried several times and, to my knowledge, stay well away from any big and small laser beams or their scorch marks, for as long as possible – no achievement for me. Of course, I was hit (and, for some reason, insta-defeated) by the ceiling lightning (not target laser).

I would really, really, really like to know what exactly I am supposed to do. I don’t feel I have the time to guess this one out by trial and error, there is only so many hours in a day.

Thank you.

This appears to be the real deal. You even have to farm and make one of those backpacks for the achievments to get the event chest. Screw that, i’m not going to do some annoying farm to create a back piece i’m just going to end up destroying. It’s an ugly back piece that none of my characters will ever use, and all my characters are geared 80’s, so it’s worthless for transmuting. It pretty much killed any interest i have in participating. kitten move anet.

For over a year, getting an exotic back piece was expensive and time consuming.

Now with the spinal blades, it’s actually pretty easy to make an exotic back piece (or several).

My advice, by happy that you can pick your stats, and transmute any skin on it that you like.

These are excellent, and I made several for my alts. Won’t be keeping the spinal blades look, but I’m super happy about the relatively cheap exotic stats (and for my main, ascended stats).

Pixelpumpkin.4608

Dear ANet,

can you please (pretty please with Skritt sugar on top) make the Skritt Burglar into a champion?

She only spawns in low level areas, which nowadays are full of downleveled but fully geared level 80s and goes down within seconds. She doesn’t have much chance to aggro, let along transform anybody.

I think I’ve seen her maybe 6 times over the course of my GW2 life (and I’ve been playing since release). I have one of the four achievements, which I got very early on, must’ve gotten caught in the crossfire before I even knew what I was doing. Now I have no hope at all of getting the other three.

But wouldn’t it be so, so, so much more fun if she had the hit points of, say, any of the Queensdale champions? People would call her out in /map, others might even have time to portal/run there, and she would have a few seconds at least to aggro and transform one or the other player.

Not just ‘because achievements’, but also because I think that it’s a super fun concept that is completely lost on anybody new nowadays unless they go and read up on what was initially supposed to happen when she spawns.

Just some thoughts! Thanks for reading.

It doesn’t make a huge difference anyway, but I do feel that if I use an item to “gain 1 level”, my level status bar should be in the same spot before & after the use, just the level number should go up.

ArenaNet would lose out on money if they allowed everyone to buy one armour set, and then have access to it on every character for free.

Questions:

  • How many % of the player base buy 1 particular set of gem store armor?
  • How many % of the player base buy 2 sets of the same gem store armor?
  • How many % of the player base would buy gem store armor if it had “replay value”?

If the #3 > #2, which I strongly suspect, then ANet would gain, not lose, money.

changing it would make zero difference to the average player, it would only change the buying patterns of that who already speculate on the markets.

I disagree. I think prices would be high for first-hand items, and much lower for second-hand items. That means that players who actually buy items in order to use them, with no plans of reselling, would buy at a fair price, while players who buy with the motivation to resell would pay a hefty but appropriate “speculation fee”.

Tome of Knowledge

in Bugs: Game, Forum, Website

The Tome of Knowledge does give the character one level, but it does not give the same percentage of completion for the next level. (ex. if a character is lvl N+33% of the next level and use the tome, it goes to LvL (N+1)+33%of the next). Using the Tome gives you the SAME number of points in the next level, which is not the same percentage, it is a lower percentage since the next level takes more points.

Yeah, I noticed that too when I burnt through my tomes on an alt today.

If you were to start at level 1 and use 80 tomes, you’d end up being level 78.

CDI- Fractal Evolution

in CDI

Posted by: Pixelpumpkin.4608

Pixelpumpkin.4608

I think that fractals are an awesome way of telling additional stories:

1. I would like to see a lot more fractals

I love fractals. I was overjoyed when the new fractals were added. I have a hundred ideas of GW2 things that would make good fractals, just based on GW2 alone (not even GW1 which I didn’t play enough).

2. I think players need some degree of influence on which fractal(s) will come up

Even though I love the concept so much, I haven’t played a single fractal since the fractal patch. Why? Because while trying to finally get the Molten fractal, which happened just before server reset on the last day, I completely burnt myself out. I’m still recovering.

I get that the fractals are randomized as to not allow players to just pick the one fractal that they’re good at / that is easy / that is short and to that over and over. But for somebody who plays fractals (and repeatedly) for the story, this is frustrating, and unfortunately it will only get worse with the introduction of new fractals.

I was super super happy to get the Molten fractal – finally I’d be able to get back into my favourite dungeon. Now I feel somewhat cheated, because apparently I have to play fractals for hours each day for a chance that it will come up after 2 weeks. I don’t have the time and I’d rather not set myself up for disappointment.

A possible solution would be to do something vaguely akin to story dungeons vs. explorable dungeons: Let players choose which fractal they want to play, but in return they will get fewer rewards, or not be able to level up their fractal level, or something like that.

3. Background information about the fractals

I’m still deeply in love with the original fractals, but it irks me that 18 months later I still have no idea who/when/where/why/etc. anything to do with the Colossus/Grawl Shaman/etc. I play GW2 for the story, and that includes the fractals. I would be willing to accept that there is no lore attached to them and that they were created to look pretty and offer various mechanics and that’s that. But devs have hinted at existing lore that they’re just not ready to share with the player base, and at this point, I’m not sure whether I believe it, and I’m a bit frustrated.
_______________

You can see that my concerns are with the story / experiencing the story, and less with mechanics and rewards. No doubt, many hardcore fractal players will focus on the technical aspects in their feedback. So I think these should be noted. Thank you for reading

Pixelpumpkin.4608

Maybe a “Hero of Lion’s Arch” is awarded in one of the following updates… as of right now, LA is still deeply in trouble, after all…

Well it’s not like Evon walks back into LA every hour. One Cycle is the entire event, after that LA becomes too toxic to enter until we find a way to counteract the aetherblade miasma.

The reason you can repeat the event is because anet has experimented with one time only events before. A lot of people, including me, couldn’t even make it to the event and a lot of people got angry.

Yes, BUT, LA is still deeply in trouble (I highlighted this in your reply) So we may have rescued some NPCs (particularly happy that some of them were known characters such as Urmaug and his buddies) but have we saved LA itself? Nope. So a title could potentially come up in the future.

But Molten armour? We already have enough armour in game with fire and lava…
