Assuming you logged in at the single most inconvenient time (one minute after one of the bosses depopped), you would then have to wait 39 minutes for the next spawn for one of the two new bosses.

Assuming you log on at ANY other time (the times you call more convenient), you’ll find yourself in overflow.

“I know you don’t want people running a boss forever,”

What I can’t figure out is why.

Just implement a reasonably fair DR formula to punish mindless farming while also avoiding making it totally worthless in terms of extrinsic rewards for people to replay content (you know, so people playing after the daily reset can find a group).

If people enjoy a boss fight, let them have a boss fight. Let them fight the boss 10 times in a row, if that’s what floats their boat.

This. And the one above this.

Too many event items..

Some people have said before that they assume that the constant introduction of new currencies (almost ever patch…) happens so the players are gently convinced to buy bag and bank slots. At the time, I chalked it up to paranoia.

Bosses should be on pre-events, not timers

in The Origins of Madness

Posted by: Pixelpumpkin.4608

Pixelpumpkin.4608

This please. They could maybe even add something like the Character counter for the commander event in WVW.

That would be helpful.

Someone else suggested that the boss fight (or its pre-events) automatically trigger once a certain number of people are in the area. I like that idea, too.

Anything really, as long as I don’t have to waste an hour in the map per boss fight ‘queuing up’.

Just think how amazing theme parks would be if you could just do the rides, without the lining up for an hour per 3 minute ride.

Well, yeah. For the 100th time: deadlines for content (and achievements) should be communicated in game (on the achievement pages).

….

How hard can it be?

Considering that they don’t know the specific time that a new update will get pushed… how would you like them to go about it?

option 1: they use their best estimate. problem case: patch goes up an hour early, ppl complained that they were promised more time.

option 2: set a hard time for achievement to end, regardless of when patch gets pushed. problem case: “I couldn’t finish the achievement in time but the patch isn’t even live yet, come on you owe me more time!”

any other ideas?

I’m talking about the date, not counting down the minutes on patch day.

ANet knows exactly whether the living story achievements will be available for 2 weeks, 4 weeks or 7 weeks. But try as we might on the forums, we can’t get them to reply to the threads asking this.

I’m making sure to complete all LS achievements (as long as I still care) in the first 2 weeks if I don’t want to risk it. Then half the time this is 2 weeks of stress, followed by 2 weeks of utter boredom. People who don’t frequent the forums have even less information.

We all know when the month ends (thanks for the timer anyway…) but we typically only guess (among the forum population) when a living story chapter ends. ANet used to write this in the patch notes, but don’t seem to bother with even that anymore. And the non-forum population… doesn’t have even that, and is completely screwed.

Things would be so much nicer if they had just designed these encounters to activate once a minimum number of players were present or at least have included an actual countdown timer for them (as in how many hours/min before they begin). Regardless standing around waiting for stuff to happen then losing early because players have been trained by this game to mindlessly zerg is sort of a buzz kill for new content

This, so much.

Or pre-events.

Bosses should be on pre-events, not timers

in The Origins of Madness

Posted by: Pixelpumpkin.4608

Pixelpumpkin.4608

Regular bosses can be on a timer because you can just jump in when they happen. Bosses that require zergs: better take one hour to wait, or else —> overflow.

  • In order to avoid overflow, you have to stand around in the same map with nothing to do
  • Since they all seem to spawn on the hour, they overlap with Tequatl, and probably more fights in the future.

I suggest to put big boss fights on a series of pre-events instead.

I don’t care if these take 20 minutes or longer to complete. I don’t care if they require 40+ players to do. But this way players could spawn the bosses on their own time. No pointless standing around doing nothing.

—> But they did this with the Karka Queen and people aren’t doing that!

The Karka Queen has other problems (size of the required zerg, difficulty to join the zerg due to hostile environment, and the reward doesn’t quite make it worth it). With a little bit of rebalancing (safe waypoint near the boss fight, better reward, smaller zerg required) people would be doing it a lot.

—> But without a 2 hour cooldown people are going to farm these like crazy!

People only farm events that give them repeated rewards (champ train). They don’t farm events that give them rewards only once per day (fire elemental).

WHat it needs is in between activities/events either leading up to it or in the aftermath (depending on win/loss) to keep people occupied. Even if it means taking players to other zones.

Yes.
Standing around for 2 hours waiting for it to begin, and still not having been let in when the fighting stops is not fun.

Why are you standing around for two hours? You know you can show up later and make it right? They both spawn every two hours, so just show up like 10 minutes before to set up.

We know that now, after we’ve stood around waiting for the boss fights for 2 hours.

The story instance was good. Unfortunately, my current balance is:

5 minutes of pretty good story instance.
30 minutes of boss fights that were more frustrating than fun, because nobody in the map understood the mechanics.
3+ hours of standing around, waiting for things to happen without a clue whether I was required to do anything.

After some 4 hours of playing on patch day, I want to go to bed with a feeling of “Yay, seen new things, done new things, found new things, have a list of achievements to do, can’t wait to log back in tomorrow!” – this is what usually happens to me on patch day. Sadly, today, I am now going to bed with a feeling of “GW2 just wasted 3 hours of my time.”

When clicking the event thingies in the HUD, they sent me to the waypoints, but the NPCs were not helpful at all. I assumed the bosses were on a timer, so my only choice was to stand around and get increasingly cranky. When the wurm fight finally happened, the lack of guidance managed to kill the mood entirely.

The story instance isn’t the problem in this patch.

Waiting around for events to start is boring

Yes I after agree 100%. Games used to revolve around you, now you wait for the game. 21st century progress I guess.

Anyway, one tactic that may help is if you got more than 1 character is put them at each starting point. One in Bloodcoast, one in Lorner’s Pass. Then instead of waiting, you can just log in to those every now and again see if you get lucky with boss event.

Meanwhile play alt 3…

If only this was an option.

In reality, you have the choice between standing around for circa an hour waiting for the fight, or porting into an overflow of failure. There’s no way to spontaneously do Tequatl – and with more boss fights requiring this and all spawning on the hour, people will be split up between them so it will be even harder to get into an organised group.

I just spent the last 3+ hours standing around without a clue, running in a zerg without getting a hit on anything, and not getting any wurm down to even 98% while being shouted at in map chat.

I could have watched 4 episodes of something in the same time.

I’m going to go until some timers and guides come up. Which I hate. I’d rather just play the game and solve things by exploring. But I simply don’t have 3+ hours on most days for standing around. What a waste.

This is going to get ignored for a couple more releases, and then a dev will tell us that this is working as intended, and you can only use daily events to “fill up” [(total required meta achievements) minus (available meta achievements)]… i.e. you have to finish all the normal meta achievements, too, and the dailies will stop counting. And that we somehow should have gotten that from the description (clear as day).

Silver Doubloons from Jumping Puzzles?

I parked 3 level 20-30 characters next to a chest about a month ago and found 5 or so silver dubloons in total. It’s not amazing, but seeing and opening the chest only takes a couple of seconds each day, it was free gold.

I do have to say that I only use these characters for personal story though, so not using them for anything else right now is not too much of a commitment.

Goodbye Mr Sparkles due to wrong wording

The only reason I knew it was real money only was because I followed the threads in the forums. The wording itself was not clear.

I don’t know, I thought it was obvious, personally.

customers who purchase

In early January, you will receive your gift based on gems you purchase and gem codes you redeem

Both of those kind of indicate that you buy gems with real money since that’s what purchasing is. Converting gems with gold via the trading post would be converting and not purchasing.

Nice one :P

“kind of indicate” =/= “obvious”

Anyway, we can purchase things in GW2 with either gems or gold, so, yeah. I think this sort of info should be worded in as clear a way as possible and not require forum clarification.

Daily Events Not Counting

I can’t test it as I have completed the meta, but I remember that the daily activities “randomly broke” shortly before the end of the living story chapter in many (if not all!) of the previous chapters. So it wouldn’t be a total surprise.

Bad news for my boyfriend who hasn’t completed the meta either.

What Gifts?

When you perform any wintersday activity – be it PvE gift boxes, Bell Choir, Toypocalypse, the jumping puzzle in LA, Tixx’ airship or help with the Dolyak events…. you will get the usual reward (karma, xp, …) and in addition one or more completely free items named Wintersday Gift.

So they aren’t gifts but rather bribes to keep you logged on, participating in the activities? I don’t do carrots on sticks. They should change the name of the item from ‘Wintersday Gift’ to ‘Wintersday Reward’.

I find it hilariously ironic that you talk about complacency.

Just sell them to an NPC as junk loot, all those 4 copper will stack up to something eventually.

Yes, that’s what we’re all doing already, but the OP stated that it is a nuisance… because they’re not classified as grey / junk items.

It would be better if they were stackable like other, similar items (crests of the rabid and what not). It would bump ’em up from “oh no, another one!” to “okay, same as the other stuff”.

If there was something (anything AT ALL) to do with them, that would nudge them up from “okay, same same…” to “actually … fun?”

Every player starts out as a newbie (that the bags are useful for) but spends many, many, many times those hours as a not-a-newbie. Finding a player in /map who wants by 12 colored 5-slot bags is such a challenge… there is a market for 1% of the bags I find, even when I try to give them away for free. :p And I’m not even running the champ train outside of dailies/monthlies.

A QoL change to Daily Achievements

in Suggestions

Pixelpumpkin.4608

The Big Spender achievement is up today. What I love about this achievement is how it requires 25 badges of honor to be spent, but the cheapest items that you can buy all require 6 or 12 badges. So the end result is you either spend 30 badges, 5 more than you would need for the daily, or you buy WvW gear and ascended trinkets, which cost 6-10x the 25 badges for the daily. I would think that ANet would use logic when it picks the amounts for the daily achievements.

I alway buy 2 pieces of WvW armor for 10 badges + 15 badges (gloves or somesuch) and destroy them immediately after.

Just go through the WvW vendor menus, you will find items that total up to 25 badges.

Disconnection grace period

Pixelpumpkin.4608

I’d like this feature as well, but for different reasons. My GW2 client crashes at least once per day (yes I’m on the latest nVidia drivers). Inevitably it’s during a world event (maw, claw, karka queen, whatever). By the time I get back into the game the event is over, or I’m in overflow. Either way I lost out on the reward. Sad face.

It used to be the same for me. I started turning the camera away from the action after (sufficiently?) tagging the boss, so there would be a minimum of particle effects on the screen, especially when the boss died.
It seemed to help a bit.

Anyway, I feel your pain. There are many good reasons to allow for a grace period.

Town Clothes for Activities

Pixelpumpkin.4608

This has been brought up before. +1 then and +1 now.

  • People complain that there is little incentive to even buy and dye town clothes.
  • Improved visibility for those players who actually put some effort into their town clothes outfits.
  • From an immersion standpoint, activities / mini games are lighthearted fun – even the PvP ones.
  • Skill bars are usually replaced with custom skill bars; a character’s own class/profession, traits, and armor class become meaningless. So even in competitive PvP environments, other players do not rely on knowing their opponents’ armor class to guess their profession.
    And finally -
  • ANet would sell more town clothes for gems.

I see a lot of good reasons to support this.

Let us sort our inventory, look at our friend list, chat, LFG, mail, salvage, eat, and use the TP. There’s always plenty to do that has zero to do with loading 3d objects / maps.

4-15 seconds with the hands tied behind your back feel very, very long. 4-15 seconds of inventory reorganisation or interacting with a friend go by in an instant.

I thought the same a while ago:

  • heavy armor wearer – simple side-stepping (in any direction)

  • light armor wearer – teleport

But I guess buying a specific animation off the TP would work, too, as long as there were several available to choose from.

Kodan why not you them in the game?

in Suggestions

Posted by: Pixelpumpkin.4608

Pixelpumpkin.4608

There’s no reason why the Kodan couldn’t become playable.

  • Lack of visual customization options
  • Remodelling of dozens of existing armor sets
  • Their starting area is level 70+
  • Very specific lore / behaviour / communication / naming, sure to be ruined completely by the playerbase on the first day

At least with Tengu, I can see some individual style choices in character creation for the face and feather (hair) styles and colors, although remodelling the existing armor sets would be even more of a nightmare.
Diversity in Kodan character creation? Nope.

Honestly, I love the Kodan, but a) ANet is unlikely to make such deep changes to the game (including the world map, adding a level 2 – 70 path of maps that is accessible to low level Kodan characters the same as it works for the other races) and b) I’d hate to see this majestic culture “ruined” by characters with “funny” names that don’t bother talking or acting like Kodan.
