Until they make it so that the dungeon doesn’t kick everyone when the host leaves the party, making the host unkickable would be a decent workaround.
Establishing workarounds usually leads to the core issue never getting fixed. Source: working in IT support for most of my work life
~ Whips ~ City Minigames ~ City Jumping Puzzles ~
Trolling/griefing by vote kicking is a problem for the other 4 players in the party as well, not just the host, so that won’t solve anything.
- The instance should not be cancelled in the first place, whether the “host” gets kicked / leaves / DCs or not
- /party chat logs need to be preserved when you leave a party, so when you get an unfair/unrightful kick, so can prove it and report the players
But these two things have been suggested a number of times already.

When activities started rewarding rank/glory I was enthused. I dislike SPvP and TPvP greatly, but wanted to unlock more rank finishers for use in PvE (assuming the trend of finishers in PvE continues). The bit of rank/glory at the end of each match gave extra incentive to play the current activity of the day, leading me to actually enjoy southsun survival and lunatic inquisition.
Since today was sanctum sprint, I figured I would take an hour or two and earn my deer finisher, only to be disappointed by the fact that sanctum sprint no longer rewards rank/glory. Is this the case for all activities? If so, it was never mentioned in the patch notes.
I suppose I’ll just go back to ignoring these activities like I used to.
My initial reaction was to shut you down by pointing out that we all assumed that the glory / rank gain in activities was unintentional and got fixed.
But your mention of PvP finishers in PvE (and WvW) got me thinking.
I PvP more and more, but I wouldn’t mind if activities awarded some rank and glory. Maybe not exactly the same as sPvP and tPvP, as you gain gold & karma from them as well, but I have nothing against a healthy compromise. I don’t begrudge other players their rank / glory.
The line between PvP and PvE has been blurred by ANet first when they introduced PvP finishers to PvE.

I’ve been thinking they could do something with the bags. They come in 6 colors: red, orange, yellow, green, blue, and purple. What a coincidence they are the colors of the rainbow. You could mystic forge a 20 slot rainbow bag. Here is what the recipes I have thought up. Combine red, orange, and yellow bags with either 25 mystic coins or a few mystic stones to create a 12 slot Fire bag. Combine green, blue, and purple bags with 25 mystic coins or a few mystic stones to create a 12 slot Ice bag. Once you have those two bags you combine the Fire bag and the Ice bag with 50 Mystic coins and a Philosopher’s Stone to create a 20 slot Rainbow bag.
Yeah, that’d be nice – even if it was a 16 or 18 slot bag.

Another thing you might consider is using it as an Aquatic weapon. Let’s face it, Aquatic weapons usually aren’t very good to begin with, so any Ascended replacement would probably be better than what you have.
That is actually a very good suggestion.
Crafting ascended weapons is so expensive – I’m still working my way up to 500 in all three disciplines – that I am unlikely to ever spend that amount of gold on an aquatic weapon (at least until, you know, the DSD expansion…) so that drop would be pretty great for a freebie!

I really don’t like the current set-up. Why would a random NPC (called just Citizen, of all things) teleport you (how?) to mini-games, some of which shouldn’t even be going on? The Zephyrites left, where (and why, and how) do the Sanctum sprints take place? Why can we go there and have access to the Zephyrites’ skills, but not travel to the Labyrinthine Cliffs at all? How does Southsun Survival exist in the exact same location at the exact same time as the regular Southsun Cove map? Why is the daily activity something to have to go to Lion’s arch for?
For reasons of in-game consistency, I would much prefer this:
Always available:
- Keg Brawl
(accessible through Hoelbrak) - Crab Toss
(accessible through Southsun Cove) - Southsun Survival
(accessible through Southsun Cove, and on a dedicated map that is off the main island, only half of which is used currently anyway) - Moa Racing
(in Lion’s Arch)
Only available during the respective recurring event:
- Dragon Ball
- Wintersday mini games
- Halloween mini games
- Sanctum Sprint and Sanctum Arena
- Queensdale torch run
- etc.
If you want a rotation for a daily achievement, then that’s fine, but:
- The mini-games should be available at all times, but only one of them will grant the daily achievement (similar to Shiverpeaks Killer, etc.)
- Create a portal in LA (or even every one of the major cities) like the fractal portal that teleports you directly to the activity of the day, to make navigation easier for players
- The daily achievement would make sure that this activity is always well-populated, without preventing players to play their favourite mini-game instead
- Include Moa-Racing for more diversity
This way, there would be some internal consistency, some rhyme and reason to the whole thing.

Boooring ^
I nominate the engineer.
Elixir-infused bombs make the engi really tanky, all the while having excellent crowd control skills, a TON of group healing and water fields (#6 + F1 + various healing and condi removal elixirs + elixir gun #5 + additional healing turrets and kits in elite supply crate), high damage with flame thrower or grenades, and the widest range of conditions to apply.
What engis don’t have is long-range DPS, but the ranger can easily make up for that.

I will lose all respect for anyone in charge of anet story writing if scarlet can get the sons of svanir, the misogynists who would never take orders from a woman. I would say they wouldn’t listen to any thing non norn either, but hey, krait working with nonkrait happened, so, yay screw lore.
That being said, how many times can a level 10 Son of Svanir get his behind kicked by a level 80 female character before realising that the stuff he keeps saying about strength and weakness is hogwash? I’m talking about you, skill challenge in Wayfarer’s.

I will always help downed or dead players if I can. If I’m not with a zerg, I usually can’t though. It’s just not possible.
The problem is the insane respawn rates. I can kite a few enemies, but I don’t have the time to kill them off and/or resurrect you without 5 new guys spawning ontop of me and killing me in seconds.
I would if I could / I do when I can. Which, admittedly, isn’t very often, but that really is due to the way the whole thing is designed.

Ok one more thing I am at the NPC by Thunder Ridge I believe, is that the one that suppose to sell keys? She only takes my spores but doesn’t sell keys, must be wrong NPC?
I haven’t bought a key yet.
I think her name is Dee and she sells all sorts of items for a combination of spores and money.
I don’t know if there is any prerequisites – maybe she’ll only sell you key parts after you have beaten the story instance at least once? It’s possible.
~ Whips ~ City Minigames ~ City Jumping Puzzles ~
I don’t feel that level 3 is too hard per se, but I do feel that
- the PvE part of the tower scales terribly (= not at all?) with the number of players present, making it way too easy for zergs and way too hard in overflow
- the waypointing is really expensive – 5 silver to get back to the start of level 3 each time. That get expensive really fast when you keep dying.

Quaggan + Grawl alliance.
Scarlet: I am your new god!
Quaggan + Grawl: Sounds legit.
Logically, it could be the Sons of Svanir – we already had
- Flame legion (charr) + dredge
- Inquest (asura) + Aetherblades
- Watchwork (human-built machines) + steam creatures
- Nightmare court (sylvari) + krait
So the norn are sort of missing from the list…
The grawl are a logical choice, but unfortunately, they have proven already that they will ally with whoever, including the Sons of Svanir, without Scarlet’s influence… OR HAVE THEY dun-dun-dunnnn

Slight correction here:
Each level has a different color of keys that drop. Level 1 is blue, 2nd level is green and 3rd is pink.
The drops are random. Keys of a specific color are said to have a slightly higher chance of dropping in chambers of the according level.
You however can buy a key per day (account wide not per character) at the npc in Kessex hill.
That’s 1 key per color per day. (= 3 keys per day)
You also get 1 key per chest per day from the boss and/or solo instance.
The key from the boss instance is a one-time reward, not daily.
~ Whips ~ City Minigames ~ City Jumping Puzzles ~
I must have missed something because nobody else ask this, but I have 3 of the level 1 key parts, but it won’t open the large chest on the top of the tower.
Double click them to combine 3 differently colored key-pieces into one tri-color key – and that one will work.
:)

I agree with this – at the moment, you either land in the main map and steamroll through everything in minutes with a massive zerg, or you land in overflow with no chance of completing the group events, which block you from progressing forward.
In a week from now, there will be a few active servers with zergs, and everyone else (or players in other timezones) will have to take a chance with guesting.
I really appreciate a challenge, but the lack of scaling is a real problem with these special encounters in PvE. (See also: “Help! My server isn’t doing Tequatl anymore!” / “Help! My server isn’t doing scarlet invasions anymore!” / “Help! My server isn’t doing the Mad King’s Maze anymore!” or simply, “Help, I’m in overflow”) The majority of players will always move on to the new content.
~ Whips ~ City Minigames ~ City Jumping Puzzles ~
Hi all,
this is not a posting I make in order to criticize the exiting content (which is fun), but to get a few ideas out of my head about what could have been.
Consecutive chambers with mean encounters… for parties
What I loved about the Queen’s Gauntlet was that we got to explore new boss mechanics, and that those challenged us to try out different builds and strategies. What I didn’t love about the Queen’s Gauntlet was that it was all solo content.
I wanted the Tower of Nightmares to be
- consecutive chambers (slowly leading up to the top)
- that have to be played in order,
- with challenging encounters,
- getting progressively harder,
- in 5-15 minutes each,
- solo or in a party
At least one of the chambers would have been under water.
Progress would be saved on a per-character basis. Parties would be able to skip earlier chambers only if all characters in the party successfully beat those chambers.
This could have been a new permanent game mode, like Fractals are.
Rewards
There would have been guaranteed unique rewards (such as individual armor skins) from certain chambers, making sure that players would want to replay the entire thing on different characters.
Achievements
There would have been permanent achievements for progression up the tower to the top, for instance for beating all chambers with different character classes, or beating chambers on a timer.
There would also have been temporary achievements within the living story chapter for playing through any story instances.
An alternate way to the top
How I would have loved a jumping puzzle up the outside of the tower – giving players a real “feel” for how high up they go. At the top, there would have been diving goggles (yay, we got those!)
Reaching the top on the outside would, of course, not give the same rewards as reaching the top chamber on the inside.
___________________________________________
Maybe one day I’ll get a game mode like this – maybe it won’t go up the tower, but down a hole. (Which, by the way, would make it possible to keep adding new encounters.)
Maybe one day…

ANet could sell these on a per-slot basis.
I would definitely buy 1 single slot (to show up above the other tabs in all my characters’ inventories) for serious money, for my salvage golem.
And then I would buy a couple more for more serious money, for such things as food/potions, my favourite mini, living story collecting (such as spores), or gem store boosters…
Yes, I would pay money for not having to run back and forth between banks on all my characters all the time to consolidate inventories.
I don’t think that this would make the banker golem obsolete, seeing as the banker golem gives you access to all your bank slots and all your collections, while this would be individual slots (possibly limited to buying 10 or so, like new bank slots and bag slots are limited).
Does anybody know if people actually buy the banker golem? I never felt it was worth it, personally. So if ANet offers additional ways for people to spend money, what’s the worst that can happen? That some people buy the stuff who would otherwise have rented a bank golem? Or that some people buy the stuff that otherwise would not have spent any money?

There’s also the issue that with some pre-events, you barely even get a hit on something to get event credit, because they don’t scale up with the number of players.
The bosses were all buffed with the Tequatl patch, but their pre-events weren’t!
Examples:
- kill inquest in the reactor’s final chamber before C.L.E.A.N. 5000 goes boom
- protect Brogun (seriously, he’s perfectly safe when 40+ level 80s try to “share” hits on a handful of level 15 or so grawl, but you don’t get credit for walking him to the totem unless you HIT something on the way) – and all pre-events that follow
- The guys before the jungle wurm – no time to even run to the event circles because they all go down so fast
- portals in the swamp – go down in seconds
So, yeah, I think a lot of fixing needs to be done, before you have a go at players.
- Pre-events need to scale (up) properly
- Some pre-events need to be changed to be easier, not harder, with more people (Shatterer / siege collection, I am looking at you)
- Pre-events could to be more rewarding
- Ascalon is the only nation that doesn’t have a low-level world boss. The giant that haunts Nageling all the time should drop a boss chest.
I’m actually all for handing out more loot after the final boss to players who DID partake in the pre-event(s), but only if those were long enough for players to actually get there in time. (…)
~ Whips ~ City Minigames ~ City Jumping Puzzles ~
Not sure if anet hates glass builds or if 3rd level is designed to be done with a group.
I think the Group Events blocking access to higher levels could be interpreted as a subtle hint
~ Whips ~ City Minigames ~ City Jumping Puzzles ~
Even if they just displayed the end date in there.
~ Whips ~ City Minigames ~ City Jumping Puzzles ~
Yes you can find the dates in the patch notes
Well… or not even that.
Overall there is no reason why there shouldn’t be a feature like a timer or day ending countdown for the living story. If they are going to continue to put out living story content then it seems like it is a must have quality of life improvement.
This!
~ Whips ~ City Minigames ~ City Jumping Puzzles ~
Are you bug reporting the as you find them? They can only fix the things they know about.
I don’t know, the one where you go off map in Divinities Reach has been discussed openly here in the forums forever, with screenshots posted and all. I almost consider it common knowledge now.
I definitely was discussed heavily before/during Queen’s Jubilee, and, much earlier, in the thread about keeping the DR home instance open.
We all know that going off map is against the rules, but I can’t shake the feeling that fixing those holes is not very far up on ANet’s list of priorities
~ Whips ~ City Minigames ~ City Jumping Puzzles ~
Dark Reverie is another vicious one in that if you die at the Shroom of Doom, not only do you have to waypoint out, but you’re forced to do Morgan’s Leap all over again just to get back in.
You’re talking about the one near the top, which looks like it shouldn’t be jumped on at all? Yeah I’ve died to that one way too many times.
This jump is hell IF you try to jump on the slanted mushroom directly and have to do a weird angled jump.
But you can jump on its horizontal stem instead which is 100 times easier, and take it from there.
There you go!
~ Whips ~ City Minigames ~ City Jumping Puzzles ~
You’re right, this is a better place to discuss this, so here’s my reply from the other thread:
A better request would be for them to include the date range in the update notes. People should be checking that regularly after each update/patch anyway.
As an avid forum user, this would appear to me, but the vast majority of players really only logs into the game itself, and there is nothing wrong with that. Many people wouldn’t even think to look for this information outside of the game. I don’t think it is fair to expect them to.
All information relevant to the gameplay (after installation) should be available through the UI. That’s why there are tutorials and hints in game, rather than a manual on the website.
Secondly, I know several players who actively avoid reading LS patch notes because of spoilers.

Well it could also have to do with how they implement the new patches. Technically, we’ve been able to finish up each LS until the new one hit, but we never know exactly when that is.
I think it’s the other way round: we know when the next LS update is due (= every other Tuesday), but we don’t know whether the current chapter will run for 2 weeks or 4 weeks (overlap with the next chapter).
I wouldn’t need or want to see the actual minutes and seconds until the next LS Update – the days left in the story chapter (either 14 or 28, then counting down the days) would suffice for the meta!
Special achievements that are only available on specific days (Mad King Says…) should be marked as such on their own mini page.
~ Whips ~ City Minigames ~ City Jumping Puzzles ~
Nobody knows.
I’ve suggested more times than I remember to put the deadlines (or a countdown) into the achievements page, similar to dailies and monthlies.

I am going to try and be constructive in this reply. -
I’m not saying that you need to feel special at the expense of people who have less time, money, patience or skill than you. I am saying that there is plenty of things you could look to if you want to stand out as a character, player or community member.
However, if it really is all about the looks for you…
I’m not saying that you’re lazy. I am saying that if you took the time to create your own look mixing pieces from various armor sets and doing an amazing dye job, you’d be pretty much guaranteed a unique look.

Your best bet would be to use one of the websites that determine the cheapest option for you based on current TP prizes:
http://www.gw2crafts.net/artificing_400.html
The cheapest way to get from 400 to 500, at this very moment, is ~150 gold.
If you try to figure this out manually, you WILL overpay, as there is no way you can determine the cost of things based on TP mat prizes as quickly and reliably as this website.
~ Whips ~ City Minigames ~ City Jumping Puzzles ~
That’s been bothering me as well (on my medium armor type main).
I don’t think the game knows what “any armor type” means, it also tells me I can’t wear the Achievement Chest reward items on my medium and light armor wearing characters in the preview / description. I think I created a bug report for that once.
