Maybe a “Hero of Lion’s Arch” is awarded in one of the following updates… as of right now, LA is still deeply in trouble, after all…
~ Whips ~ City Minigames ~ City Jumping Puzzles ~
I’d wear it.
~ Whips ~ City Minigames ~ City Jumping Puzzles ~
I think that Lion’s Arch, for the next little while (months… years?) will be inhabited by whatever Scarlet’s drill unearth, and its minions. LA will be completely unsafe for a long time.
At least I hope so.

I took a year to (temporarily) complete my series 1 collection for the achievement.
Today, with the free minis, the price for series 2 minis dropped significantly. So in addition to my 3 free ones, I bought all the other ones from the TP! 40 AP later, I’m holding on to them now in case any of my friends wish to borrow them for the achievement.
I can sell them back whenever.
So, yes, the prices dropped, but also I wouldn’t have bothered with series 2 minis for a long, long time if not for the freebies today.

Why is it every patch has to require a zerg to play?
I’m not a fan of zerging either. But it’s not “every patch”. It’s actually the minority of patches.
In the last year, patches gave us, yes, several “zerg updates”, but also dungeons, fractals, solo instances, party instances, PvP and WvW maps, scavenger hunts and much more.
If you look at the individual releases, the ones that introduced new zergable content are actually in the minority. While I personally didn’t like all of them, and some player types got more new content out of them than other player types, I find it extremely fair of ANet to release bits for everybody – including zerg content.

So when it was part of the Living Story, it was suddenly easy enough to fix from one day to the next. Ha ha.

I don’t “get” the new armor. Is this something from GW lore? It can’t be just random blue man grouping GW characters… right?

Her lair is still there, but the chests are gone.
I feel a tiny bit betrayed by the ANet rep that posted in that thread, even though what they said was technically true.
Eh… thanks, ANet. Classy move!

New potion “Powerful Potion of Slaying Scarlett’s Armies” causes you to take +10% damage from scarlett’s armies.
I came here to get this information. Thank you… very disheartening.
~ Whips ~ City Minigames ~ City Jumping Puzzles ~
Like I said, I am absolutely certain that this sort of thing will be done by others in time – you can already get customized children’s books and such.
ANet’s advantage would be that we’re already heavily invested in our characters, and people have been asking for more GW2 novels anyway – put two and two together…
~ Whips ~ City Minigames ~ City Jumping Puzzles ~
Honestly, there were a lot of problem: characters I didn’t quite like, story instances that should have been group-able, fight instances that should have been solo-able, unfair achievements, technical problems (DAT LAG), temporary content that should have been permanent and permanent content that should have been temporary, bad blood when we voted on the fractal, disappointment in the fractal, etc… etc… etc…
But…
The living story did draw me back into guild wars every month; the new story intances did draw me back in every two weeks; the new maps, fractals, dungeon paths, jumping puzzles and boss fights did ensure that after 100% map completion I didn’t just close gw forever to go and explore another world; the new achievements did give me something to do when I’d gotten most of the base ones out of the way.
Admittedly, it was a bumpy ride – my personal assessment is that it was a success.
Because I am still here, and because the release announcements every 2 weeks still excite me.
I have always been a fan of the Living Story concept – I’d rather have new stuff every month than do something else, and after a year come back to play the expansion for 3 weeks. I have criticised many smaller aspects of the execution, but ANet has tried out new things with half of their mini releases, and I give them full credit for that. You have to try things in order to find what works and what doesn’t. I believe that the Living Story will get better – thanks to the forum community’s constructive feedback. (No thanks to the whining.)

Dear ANet,
Please provide a novelization of the personal story.
- The first chapters should loosely be based on the personal choices at character creation.
- The tribe chapters should be randomized
- The order chapters should depend on the order choice (if no order has been chosen yet by a specific character, randomize or have text bits ready that reflect that a character is working with all orders. FOR THE PACT!)
- Obviously, the entire last third of the book would be the same for everyone, other than name and personal pronoun (and possibly some flavour text based on the character’s race).
Formats
- Make hardcopies available via print-on-demand. Allow people to order it via your website, providing an account name and character name to base the story on. Allow people the choice of several backgrounds for the book cover; then render it using the character’s current model from your character database. I would pay up to USD 20/EUR 15 per book.
- Make e-book available via the gem store. 1000 gems would be a fair price.
The hardcopies would make excellent presents for people’s significant others, guildies’ birthdays, etc.
The e-book I would probably buy for myself; I’d buy several, just for my own characters! I’m convinced that many people would buy at least three (order, priory, vigil).
Super Fancy Bonus
If it featured a “best buddy” based on a different player character (most people I know play GW2 personal stories together with their significant other, BFF, guildie etc.)… I’d buy 10 just for myself, plus they would make even more excellent birthday gifts. I would pay a couple dollars/gems more for this option, even.
I don’t think that any game or even movie franchise has done this yet (at least, I haven’t heard of it) – the PR would be potentially spectacular. I’m sure that these things will come, though. Somebody’s gonna be the first to offer this and get all the PR. Be that somebody.
(Totally not posting this because my boyfriend’s birthday is coming up.)

Personally, I’d much rather experience the Personal Story rather than read about it in a novel. I love reading and letting my imagination take the lead, but there’s something a little more exciting about living those moments in game and experiencing them. It would make reading about it not as exciting.
Slightly off topic, but:
They could easily write a novel following the personal story from start to finish, and print you a copy on demand (or sell you the e-book) with your face on the cover, and name/gender/first chapters depending on your own character creation choices.
It’s 2014. ANet… you’d make a killing. I’d buy three!
Better yet:
If it featured a “best buddy” based on a different player character (many people I know play GW2 personal stories together with their significant other, BFF, guildie etc.) I’D BUY LIKE TEN just for myself, plus they would make excellent birthday gifts.
Better yet yet:
Sell them in the gem store. 800 gems, normal price for a book, there goes all my gaming money for the year.

- There is people who click their way through all the living story content without processing any of the information – no clue, no motivation to draw their own conclusions.
- There is people who are busy doing other things in game and would actually totally miss that the living story is going on.
- There is people who obsess over every word, discuss on the Lore sub forums, create videos discussing this, or obsess over content on reddit.
- There is people who would like to be surprised, and there is people who would like to know in advance what’s coming up. Neither of them are wrong, they just like different things.
ANet has to find a balance between not giving too much away and not drawing people in. It is impossible to please everyone. I think the semi-vague video trailers are an acceptable compromise, and easy to ignore if you choose to.

Do you mean by “completing” that you actually did the whole puzzle or did you just log into a character that was standing near the final chest?
Valid question.
I ran all of them from start to finish, on the same character.

I, too, have been wearing cultural T2/T3 combined on my charr elementalist since level 6 or so.
(I wanted to buy cultural armor pieces for achievements anyway, I had transmutation stones left, so there was no reason to have the armor pieces rot away in the bank until level such and such.)
This no longer works across races. The “Account bound” T3 armor cannot be placed into the transmutation window when using a character of the incorrect race.
The OP didn’t say their alt was of a different race.

There has been some foreshadowing of drama already.
Whether the relationship is same-sex or not is really not relevant to… well, anything.
Unfortunately, it is relevant when almost all same sex relationships in entertainment(books, tv, movies) end up terrible. They are commonly short lived and interrupted by death whether it’s murder, suicide, or an affair with someone of the opposite sex.
I am really struggling to think of an example of a hetero relationship in GW2 that didn’t end terribly. (Jennah/Logan is debatable, but doesn’t look like a “happy ending” to me either.) Rox’ boyfriend died, Braham got ditched by Ophelia, his parents reportedly split, and the only other relationship of any kind that I can think of is Snaff/Zojja and we all know what happened there.
However, overall, fair point.

Love the new skins – I wish a version of them was available without the hearts. So they’d be useful for more players beyond Valentine’s Day. Sadly, the heart is gimmicky. If it wasn’t on there, I’d consider getting them. BLT weapons are WAY too expensive for temporary “fun” reskins (just cause, Valentine’s Day) and the weapons are too gimmicky for a permanent reskin.
This (minus hearts) is probably what the ascended weapons should have looked like.

What annoys me is the error message. I have gotten these messages (usually on patch day) since launch and it has NEVER been my firewall, router settings or security program.
All the game client knows is that it can’t connect to the server. It doesn’t know why, so it assumes that the game servers are fine and you have a local problem.
We know that! But when the server’s not reachable, why does the game automatically assume that the problem lies at the player’s end? Can’t perform a ping to the own server?
“Adding insult to injury” is what this is.

Technically and aesthetically they look freaking awesome!
Thematically I wont be using any of them.
Same here. I have one ticket in the bank, and just like with the toxic weapons, I wish I had a character who has use for these. I’m not super rich so I have to make my one ticket count, and won’t use it to randomly, temporarily re-skin one of my established characters (I would if it was cheaper). For now I’ll stick with my set of jade weapons.

~ Whips ~ City Minigames ~ City Jumping Puzzles ~
I think scaling down the fight and making it a guild mission is the best suggestion I’ve heard for this. I might be in the minority on this, but I really enjoyed the mechanics of the Marionette fight, and I’m actually kinda bummed that it was only a temporary Living Story event. Having it as a new guild mission would be seriously awesome.
No, I’m with you. I hadn’t even thought about guild missions. That would be perfect, actually.
~ Whips ~ City Minigames ~ City Jumping Puzzles ~
The point remains that deadlines should be communicated in the game itself, on the achievement pages, as well as here on the forums – not some third party website interviews (and in some cases, not even that).
~ Whips ~ City Minigames ~ City Jumping Puzzles ~
I’m not super happy that we lose the Marionette fight (it’s fun, and I’ve been coming back daily after having finished all achievements) but I guess that’s the nature of the beast.
But I want to say that I love the Marionette’s look and animations. You don’t realize how massive she is (sadly, during warden fights you don’t have time for a good look, and from the lanes you don’t see much either. I’ve been watching the fight a few times from hill tops, it was beautiful. Love the stomps and the sword phase. And the spinning head. Man. That’s awesome.)
I would love if we could keep her around at least to look at. (I’m nostalgic.)
For instance, upon her final defeat, she could maybe just collapse on the ground and stay there as a mini jumping puzzle.
~ Whips ~ City Minigames ~ City Jumping Puzzles ~
Happened to my boyfriend as well.
You know what’s weird though? If after a marionette fight I join into a different overflow or the home server where the marionette is still up, I get the reward twice.
So, to summarize.
- You DC (doesn’t matter if at the beginning or towards the end), but are active during most of the fight, you get no reward.
- You join an existing fight 1 minute before the end, you do get the reward.
That’s a bit messed up, right?
Why can’t GW2 remember the status a player left in, just for a few minutes? aka Disconnection Grace Period —> It would solve so many of our problems.
