The one I hear does NOT sound anything like the video in the linked thread, but instead it sounds a bit like the “dramatic” sound from Law & Order. It is slightly shorter/sharper and more echo-y, and it is quite a bit louder than other sounds in GW2, so I assume this is what the OP is talking about.

Actually, didn’t somebody say that the loot drops in Maguuma Wastes, so far, are using the Kryta drop table?
Seems to me like ANet just haven’t thought this through. I reported this, too, a couple of weeks ago.
~ Whips ~ City Minigames ~ City Jumping Puzzles ~
I can’t get it either. The problem isn’t so much that it stalls: Never even seen this event pop.
~ Whips ~ City Minigames ~ City Jumping Puzzles ~
I like that it is time-gated and a rather long process. It gives me something to do the other 13 days between story updates.
I do wish there was a PvP reward track that drops Foxfire Clusters and clay bricks though. Just for fun. Because farming foxfire and geodes only works one way (each) currently and it gets boring way before the 20 hours or so of farming required, even when spreading it all out over two weeks or more.

World completion, soulbound equipment, trait and skill unlocks, and leveled crafting disciplines are “virtually nothing”?
- Levels: As people have suggested, EotM or champ trains will get you there quickly. I personally also have 60+ tomes of knowledge (from PvP, mostly, and living story rewards) and a level 20 scroll stacked up. Crafting is another option. A combination of all 4 would give you a level 80 in no time.
- World completion: Running to all the waypoints doesn’t take very long. Nobody forces you to get hearts, vistas and skill challenges on every single character; in fact, if you don’t, that won’t impact the gameplay at all.
- Soulbound equipment: ANet has taken several steps to make this step easier for players – a number of item types (such as legendaries, unlimited gathering tools) have retroactively become account bound. Skins as well, which means that you will be able to re-use your cultural armor looks you purchased for another character.
- Trait and skill unlocks: yes, that really is virtually nothing. You should have loads of skill points in your bank from regular play, and the new trait unlocks are a) very few, b) mostly insignificant and c) easy to get.
- Crafting: It doesn’t matter which one of your characters has the crafting disciplines, as anything you craft will be account bound until you use it on a character. You can easily park your old character in Rata Sum, halfway between the personal bank and the crafting station, and craft items for your new character.
The only thing I can think of that would suck would be if you had purchased character-bound additional bag slots, but really who does that? And that’s a problem we ALL have, and has nothing to do with rerolling a character of the same class.
I don’t understand why some people level one character to 80 and then feel entitled to get free additional level 80 characters… in other games I played the characters couldn’t even share money or a bank. Don’t be so greedy, GW2 already makes it super duper easy.

It’s pretty cool…for a Tonic.
Really?
No emotes
No combat
No interacting with NPCs or bank
Pretty “not cool” for a tonic

There’s plenty of things that should still be working while loading.
- friend list
- chat
- inventory organisation
- hero panel (including: equip, dye, achievements panel…)
Etc…

I believe the reason for it not being in the patch notes is that when the UI was redesigned, they simply forgot to put it back on.
Most players wouldn’t even notice, but there has been enough threads here of the forum to show that many players think it is a terrible shame.
Why ANet havn’t at least commented on this is a bit of a mystery… then again, well, when do they ever.
~ Whips ~ City Minigames ~ City Jumping Puzzles ~
The whole system needs a clean-up. Here’s some issues from a year ago. I gave up on listing them.

Only treants count for Plant Slayer. It should really be called Treant Slayer, as other plants such as bramble bushes don’t count for it either.
I’m okay with Dragon minions having their own slayer achievements, I just wish it was implemented consistently for all dragons.

but I might be biased: I made Kamohoali’i Kotaki. (I don’t regret it! I just wish I got to use it more.)

It’s been suggested before for all the cities. Honestly, if you can still join on your party members in other maps then I don’t see why not.

The DSD appeals to me a little more than Kralkatorrik (and with it, the hope for improved underwater combat and aquabreather skins and all the rest), but Elona appeals to me far more than Cantha.
I’d vote for Elona over Cantha right now.

Forget Guildwars2, if you met these people in real life, seriously, which one would you hang out with?
I’ll have to say Marjory.

All these surfboard greatswords
Haha, so true.
I can’t bring myself to play a greatsword-anything because of this. Almost all swords and daggers are also oversized. Ah well, back to my engi who doesn’t have that problem.
Since to an engineer, big is always good
Whaaaat? We’re all about precision!

- Check friend list for my BFFs
- If party members want to do something specific —> this (could be dungeons, fractals, jumping puzzles or living world or something completely different)
- If new content —> that
- Boss train, home instance nodes
- Finish PvE dailies
- If I can be bothered, PvP (still unlocking all reward tracks)
- If bored, work on monthlies or slayer / weapon master achievements or whatever else
- Craft
I don’t do all of this every day, and some days I don’t play at all. I’d say that for most of the week I do PvE dailies and if I have the time, boss fights, and once or twice a week I do “big stuff” together with friends.

Well, the metabolic primer is not currently on the gem store, so I’m guessing they know and are working on a fix.

If you care about skins, go on an unlocking spree?
When wardrobe first came out, I spent about 1.2 mil on just unlocking skins (and I still don’t have any Temple armor unlocked).
If you just want to convert to gold then the (reported) best bet is Karma Crabin’ Gloves from Bloodtide Coast (4 into Forge and Salvage (or sell) result). This takes quite a bit of clicking and time (I’m told), so if you just want it quick, Orrian Jewelry boxes are the best bet.
This ^
I am always trying to keep some karma back just in case something comes up with a future update, but the rest of my karma I’ve spent on skins and orrian jewelry boxes.
Getting some legendary ingredients together while you can and stashing them also seems like a good idea, wish I’d thought of that earlier
~ Whips ~ City Minigames ~ City Jumping Puzzles ~
If you guys play together I’m sure you will pretty much roll over everything you encounter (open world PvE). If you guys are good friend for example and you will share loot among you – Mesmer and Necro are already two light armour classes, Ele would be another but Guardian is a heavy armour class.
Just a different angle, have fun.
This is practical advice and absolutely true ^
Awesome! Thanks everyone for there advice and comments
Im starting to lean more towards Guardian, just because my 2 friends are going a more Range approach to the game. Anyone else have any other advice?!
In GW2, all classes have the option to range or melee, and realistically, most players will switch between melee and range (by swapping weapons or, in the case of engineers, swapping to different kits) based on the situation they’re in.
Seriously, just pick whatever class you feel like playing. The rest will sort itself out.
~ Whips ~ City Minigames ~ City Jumping Puzzles ~
To be fair, the artists making these weapons aren’t under the illusion that they’re remotely practical, so pointing out the flaws isn’t much of an argument. A lot of people like these over-the-top designs (I’m not one of them, however) and that’s who they’re appealing to; if we want to see more practical and elegant designs, we just have to convince them that there’s an equally large (or large enough) audience to make appealing to us worth the effort.
No how idea we could go about accomplishing that, sadly.
By complaining on the forums \o/
To be honest though, ANet could have picked up the hint already – remember when players saw Mai Trinn’s rapier and pistol and EVERYBODY WANTED THEM, or when players saw Belinda’s greatsword and EVERYBODY WANTED IT?
~ Whips ~ City Minigames ~ City Jumping Puzzles ~
I know, right?
Some people would like to move the candycorn away from the orphans and into the bakery or wherever makes actual sense to them. Others would like to place all nodes conveniently close to the exit.
Everybody would win.
~ Whips ~ City Minigames ~ City Jumping Puzzles ~
But people will whine whatever you do.
Apparently so.
~ Whips ~ City Minigames ~ City Jumping Puzzles ~
In season 1, ANet released both content that could only be played solo, and content that required a full group. In both cases people complained and asked that ANet made the instances similar to the personal story ones, so they could be played by 1 to 5 players at the same time, depending on what the individual player wanted. They have now done exactly this.
In addition, there is the open world stuff in Dry Top, which can be played solo, but will generate better rewards the more players cooperate.
We got our way. I really don’t think that there is anything left for us to criticize. Not this aspect, anyway.
~ Whips ~ City Minigames ~ City Jumping Puzzles ~
Elementalists have a little steeper learning curve, but not so much that the class is unplayable by a beginner. As long as you remember that it is not a race and you can take your time to get to know all the skills. In addition, you will be with 2 other players, and between the three of you, you’ll be very okay in PvE regardless of what class you pick.
People always have the tendency to play “the easiest class” first, but you won’t find happiness until you find the class whose mechanics and skills / playstyle you enjoy the most.
My first character was an engineer, the other class with a “steeper learning curve”, and I did okay.
~ Whips ~ City Minigames ~ City Jumping Puzzles ~
as far as the order items go, yes. All of it is unlocked account-wide via the Wardrobe once you buy it with any character. And yes, you can buy any armor set (or weapons) regardless of whether your character can actually use them or not. You’ll get a “warning” message telling you that you won’t be able to equip that item when you try to buy it, but other than that, no problem.
Mind you, it is just the skin that you unlock. The actual items are soulbound to the character who buys them, so you can buy the Medium Priory armor with your Guardian, but you won’t be able to actually trade the armor set to your Thief. You’ll have to transmute another set with the appearance.
That’s the second thing I did after they introduced the wardrobe system in April… the first was to create a bunch of level 1 characters to unlock the class-specific starter skins.
:)
~ Whips ~ City Minigames ~ City Jumping Puzzles ~
I wish I’d picked up Rage when it was 30g :P
I just bought it on the TP anyways. Gambling by means of MF will not only eat through your money, but also your time, and probably cause you carpal tunnel syndrome. Playing GW2 in other ways that are marginally more fun than running back and forth between TP and MF and making the money in the process will always seem preferable to me.
~ Whips ~ City Minigames ~ City Jumping Puzzles ~
I’m really not that concerned about the personal story or dungeon paths being “compromised”, what with them all being locked in time and all that.
But this move, if it worked the way we imagine right now, would retire the majority of dynamic events in Ascalon. They’d all have to be replaced by something else. That’s a bit sudden and also probably a much, much larger update than I’d ever expect in one of these 2-week-chapters.

I’ve been interested in getting involved with organized Jungle Wurm (and to a lesser degree, Tequatl) groups/guild, but I don’t really know where to go.
I’ve never killed the Jungle Wurm, and Teg pug runs usually fail, but I want to do them.Is there a website, famous guild(s), specific server, or people I can talk to to get involved with some regular runs, or do people not even do these any more?
I’ve looked around and can’t seem to find any substantial or recent information on the subject.
If you’re on a NA server, there’s TTS http://ttsgamers.com/
as well as a few other bigger guilds, and of course equivalents on EU servers – their names escape me right now

Or they could slightly adjust the drop rate chance upwards with each box that a player opens.
In short, I’d like the setup modified so that anyone who farms “long enough” is nearly guaranteed (99.9999%) to get at least one shiny.
That’s what I said
Still, my preferred option would be one guaranteed fossil as a story reward (meta reward) and we might still get that, who knows.
~ Whips ~ City Minigames ~ City Jumping Puzzles ~
I’ll throw some more ideas your way just for the fun of seeing what you come up with, but please, anybody who want help with their existing characters should go in the queue before me. So this is for if/when you get bored:
- A (clumsy) female asura warrior, field of study: sound waves. Preferred weapon: hammer
- A female norn guardian, with a sea theme (like… fish scales?)
- A branded sylvari
- A sylvari character in the style of the Canadian flag. Armor weight, gender, face etc. up to you.

Well, GW2 isn’t Second Life and that’s totally okay, but there’s got to be some compromise between total freedom and none at all.

I’m all for player houses, but I’m against building it anywhere. it would take too much work for the developers to add (time better spent elsewhere) and would possibly ruin the fantastic atmosphere of the game
Actually, there would be ways to make that work. Please see the link in my sig to someone’s idea of portable doors.
The idea was that buildings that already exist in the environment, from farm houses to hylek huts to clay housing in Prosperity, get “marked” by the devs in certain spots that look like doors. Players would then be able to buy a door item from the gem shop, and pick any “house” that supports a door in this way. It would be interactable only for the player(s) who chose this spot. Party members would be able to follow them into the instance.
There could be different styles of interiors to choose from (again, farm hous, norn hut, straw hut, etc.), or they’d come with the “door spot”.
If new maps were released (Southsun cove straw huts, Prosperity, …) many players would buy the gem shop item again to move their door to the new area. This would mean that players could pick housing in a location and style they choose, IF they want player housing at all, and would be completely non-invasive for other players. To other players, it would look no different than a player logging in or out in the middle of a map.
The idea wasn’t mine, but I think it’s amazing and I would love the hell out of it.
this would be perfectly fine for me. when i hear “build your own house anywhere” i think of a mix between any location (like minecraft) and templates (like hearthfire for skyrim) which is why I would be worried about that
but buying pre-existing housing would be totally fine. you could actually tie in some outside player customization via megaservers, e.g. each megaserver instance will be it’s own “neighboorhood” and each megaserver instance will have 1 owner of each pre-existing buildings (of course not crazy customization, but something like a small banner/flag or something would be pretty neat
But the beautiful thing about the “doors” is that it wouldn’t matter if a particular spot has been chosen by 1 or 38578 players (much like the home instance).
~ Whips ~ City Minigames ~ City Jumping Puzzles ~
You will not get an armor piece or skin item, but the skin will be unlocked permanently in your wardrobe. You will be able to transmute the look of any unlocked skin onto any actual item of the same type. It costs one transmutation charge. (You can get transmutation charges in game in a number of ways, for example playing PvP.)

After the introduction of the wardrobe in April, I created a bunch of level 1 characters of most classes to unlock all the different starting skins, first for my engi, then also thieves’ masks/hoods and guardian items etc., never to worry about their availability ever again.

I liked the books and would buy any new ones.
I agree that the characters that are still alive would make wonderful “active” NPCs. I think they should all interact more – Destiny’s Edge members have made “guest” appearances in the living story, but the Ghosts of Ascalon NPCs are not entangled in the personal stories or dungeon cutscenes and thus are completely free to be used in the living world. Many +1.
It might even make some more players pick up the books.

I have a warrior… I find it very boring to play. Not because the warrior does a lot of damage and trivializes encounters more thoroughly than other classes, but because of the class mechanics.
Even with my main (engi) I didn’t go for one of the DPS-optimized builds. I’ve tried out many things, and I’m happy with my build.
DPS is not my top priority.

First off: Spoilers!!!
Episode 2 improved on a lot of things, in my opinion.Still one thing is running straight through:
Why are only the good guys being killed off? Zephyrites, Seraph, Vigil, Priory, Belinda.
Shouldn’t an elder dragon be more careless what it kills?
Of course, dragon-servants like the Flame Legion and the Sons of Svanir are off the hook, but Dredge are no servants so far.Mordremoth is digging through the earth with his vines, attracted to powerful magic.
Dredge are also digging their tunnels and are always in search for some dwarven artefacts to destroy.I’d vote for the dredge getting some of Anets redshirt-love next.
Have you been playing the game?
We kill the bad guys ALLLLLLLLLLLLL THE TIIIIIIIIIIME. All day long. They’re ALL redshirts.
Also… didn’t Aerin die?
