Sorry I’m not 8 yrs old ,

I’m 34 and I had a blast today.

But I feel for everybody on these forums who somehow has forgotten how to have fun between their 9th birthday and today.

Not everyone share the same ideas of what is fun.

I never claimed everyone did. I responded directly to somebody who said this was age-related.

Tragedies happen everyday. Some are covered by the media more intense than others.

Back when LA got “destroyed” and we had those refugee-related activities in the game, none bothered to point out any parallels to the ongoing tragic events in the real world.

This recent plane crash however seems to be an entirely different matter.

Personally, I find such hypocrisy extremely insensitive.

I feel the same way.

Real people get gruesomely murdered, by the thousands, every day, yet we PvP. Trains crash with hundreds of victims, but nobody tries to shut down the term “hype train”. Because these things happen in the third world, unlike last week’s plane crashes, and they happen too frequently for us to even worry or care about it to the degree that it would influence what we find insensitive.

It should not matter whether it was 150 plane crash victims in the first world, or 150 civil war victims in some African country, or 150 people in a train crash in India. All these deaths are equally tragic, and the circumstances are equally upsetting.

But somehow, to a few dozen people on these forums, it makes a huge difference. I find this hypocritical as well.

I had a ton of fun tonight. Dressed up fancy, took some awesome screenshots with the boyfriend (now to be edited), enjoyed everybody’s videos (can’t wait for Eexa’s…)

My only problem with this April Fool’s is that it isn’t the SAB, but what can you do For not-the-SAB it is pretty awesome and entirely appropriate in both tone and scope for April Fool’s.

And maybe this means that when the SAB returns, it does so as part of the world story (remember the stuff in Rata Sum last time?) with some larger implications.

I’m happy. Thanks ANet!

Gold Transfer Changes

Pixelpumpkin.4608

Yeah… Maybe a small percentage of people actually handling the money, but a MUCH larger population out there that will be affected.

I don’t see why they bring guild banks into it at all in the first place, you would think that the 3 day wait before people can access a guild bank is enough protection. Nobody’s going to buy gold from gold sellers, pay $$ and then sit in a guild for 3 days waiting. Or if they do, then at least the number of possible customers of fraudulent transactions is reduced to 1 per 3 days per guild, or 5 per three days per gold seller account….

Since the wallet can handle an almost unlimited amount of gold, why the use of a Guild Bank to shelter gold? That is what I don’t understand.

It’s been explained in this thread by multiple people, it was one of the first replies that came up on page 1.

Most of you with this mentally dont even have over 500g a week to spend/transfer. Get over yourselves and learn some self control if you have spending goals. This change affects a very minimal amount of players. This change also hinders the vast majority of 3rd party rmt.

I certainly don’t have 500 gold incoming each week, far from it, but I have between 100 and 300 in my guild bank and I withdraw / redeposit quite often. With the new system the same gold dollar will count towards the weekly limit with each withdrawal. That is the problem. I’m still not convinced anybody took this into account. My assumption is, until ANet come back to confirm/disconfirm, that they looked at the gold income and found that 500g / week was a good number to separate legitimate players from botters / buyers – but then remembered guild banks as an afterthought and applied the system to both.

500G may seem like an entirely arbitrary number, but I guarantee it is not. I took a look at our mail data (believe me, you guys really like mail and there is a lot of data) and set the value based on that. At 500G, it is not only functionally effective, but also it will only impact 0.175% of our players during an entire month’s worth of mails (if an account would hit the restriction once per month/30 days).

“Only”? If there are 1 million players, that is 1750 people you just screwed over.

You ignored the 2nd part where 98.228% are from RMT and stolen accounts. That would leave only 31 actual players in your example being affected.

Chris also said that these numbers are based on gold that people get mailed – and so far has not been back to confirm that they took guild bank withdrawals into consideration at all. And I assume they haven’t, because if they had, I would be one of those 31 people, and I am 100% convinced that I am not among the 31 (or even 1000) richest, most trading-active or most hardcore players (lol).

There really are very few situations where you would need to store extra gold in a guild bank and have to retrieve more than 500g at a time.

But we’re talking about 500g(max) not at a time, but across a week of playing. And once you take the money out and put it back in – the same gold will count again the next time you take it out. So even if you only own 50g (but take it out of your guild bank 10 times in 7 days) you will hit the limit.

In what situation would you need to take out 50g, and put it back in at least 10 times in a weeks time?
In what situation does the average player need to remove amounts of gold multiple times a week?

I can see maybe some potential issues with larger guilds doing raffles and such, but that can easaily be worked around by allowing a few more people to withdraw some gold to send to the winner. And the winner might have to wait a bit to get the full prize. But its more of a minor inconveniece than anything, and one that can be circumvented with items instead of gold.

(I’ll edit my post, I misspoke about the time frame).

I do that all the time

At the end of my playing day, I deposit everything except maybe 5g. Then a few days later I decide to make a few purchases or level a craft, so I take money (generously) out of the guild bank. I deposit the leftovers back (these are often more than 50g at a time). Then the next day maybe I craft some damask or whatever, and deposit the money in the bank. Then the next day I decide that it is a good day to buy ectos, and help myself to a generous portion of gold (better than to be a few gold short and having to run back and forth between the guild bank and the TP multiple times), deposit the rest. And so on. I do have sort of a GW routine, but what I play on any day varies a lot. Within 7 days, I will easily hit a 500g limit, whether or not (at the time) I own 500g (most of the time I do not).

Just like in real life…. if I run around with a fiver in my pocket, it is pretty much guaranteed to be gone at the end of the day because I pass many pastry and sandwich places on my way to work.

This is why we have piggy banks. Because they work.

And it works the same in guild wars, at least for me.

I have a personal guild bank (shared between me and my boyfriend, so without the risk of accidentally leaving it and losing all access to it). He stores his excess gold in the first bank tab and I in the second. In times of saving up, I deposit my gold at the end of the playing day. There is indeed times when I deposit and take out a lot of money. And even if it isn’t that much money – with the new system, if I took 100g out of the bank, and deposited it back, and repeated it four times, I’d already hit the limit – but with the same 100g over and over.

How to solve this: easy. Log a player’s “income” (messages + guild bank) as well as “outgoing money”. Only if the income exceeds outgoing money by 500g or more, restrict it.

This way, guild raffles (as long as they were held within the week), personal piggy banks, and lending/loaning money would kind of sort of still work.

[Suggestion] Toy Box Tab

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Pixelpumpkin.4608

Same here. I don’t even bother with tonics right now because I don’t want to schlepp them around in my inventory. And there is so many fun ones out there, theoretically, but I don’t use them at all.

IF tonics were collectible in a tab exactly like the finishers one, I would not only use them, I would also go out of my way to enhance/complete my collection. Possibly even spend gems.

As for toys, a toy box would be fun, but I think it is not as pressing a matter as the tonics, simply because there are so many more tonics than toys. On the other hand, most toys were bought with gems, and as such maybe are more deserving of QoL changes.

Pixelpumpkin.4608

While this is not in the spirit of PvP, I personally don’t care if people do it.

  • “rank” only shows how much time you’ve spent in PvP in total and is otherwise meaningless.
  • playing unranked/ranked matches will always grant faster progression (both rank and reward wise) than farming hotjoin.
  • playing PvE will always grant faster rewards (levels, dungeon tokens etc.) than farming hotjoin. (exception – unidentified fossils, which in PvE are rng based, so I’ll allow it)
  • it keeps players who are more interested in the rewards than actively playing PvP out of the rated arenas. (I encounter the occasional base afker in unranked and it sucks. But without hotjoin farms, I assume I would enncounter this a lot more,)

I have come to see it as an alternative game mode for people to acquire rewards withiut being forced to play PvP/run dungeons/grind Dry Top etc. – it comes with a penalty (is slower than playing the actual game mode) so they’re kind of always just wasting their own time doing it. Sometime people prefer a different type of grind to their usual grind. As long as they’re not getting in my way (and these people are not – quite the opposite), then it’s no big deal.

I do those in hotjoin half the time, because I am in no way comfortable to join a match that is based on my “engi MMR” with my ele.

I think that the class-based win dailies are great (at least the motivate me to play my alts at all), but the class-based MMR needs to be implemented already. That way, with my crappy ele, I could join other crappy players, not ruin anybody else’s rated matches, and that’s that.

We already have a solution, they just need to put it in.

How are partial rewards calculated?

in PvP

Pixelpumpkin.4608

Help me figure this out.

Info taken from the wiki:

Page: http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Structured_PvP

  • Rewards from structured PvP matches include rank points and coin. Players participating in a match for less than 7 minutes receive reduced rewards.

Page: http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/PvP_Rank

  • Rank points are earned at the end of a match and are based on whether your team won or lost. Matches that last shorter than average will yield proportionally less points. The number of points earned further depends on the type of match played. (???)

What does “average” mean? Average duration per map type? Is it different in hotjoin and rated play? And can anybody back up the “proportionally” part at all?

I just did a bunch of test matches in hotjoin with a friend, which we tried to win as fast as possible. They all ended way sooner than 7 minutes (duration varied between 4:50 and 6 minutes, depending on the map).

The fastest one was a Spirit Watch match which ended after 4:50.

It did not last 7 minutes or longer.

It definitely didn’t last longer than “average”.

The winner got the full 500 points.

We actually got the full 500 points for winning every time, except for one match, which was a 5:25 Khylo match, if I remember correctly.

So not only contradict the two wiki pages each other, it also seems that neither of the statements is true. At the very least they don’t contain the full truth.

Factors that could influence the rank points (and/or reward points) awarded – (maybe) a combination of:

  • Duration of the match (Apparently NOT the only factor)
  • Whether a player joined late (this one seems a given)
  • Whether a player left the home base late
  • Whether the other team scored points or not
  • Number of players on both teams
  • Intended match duration (10 mins or 15 mins)
  • ANet server or custom server

Oh, one more thing. Personal points, as long as you have >0, shouldn’t matter anymore. However, in our test matches, sometimes the winner would get the full 500, and the loser less than 200 (for example, 169 rank points) so I guess that could be a factor. I’m putting it back on the list.

  • Personal points gained
  • Can you think of anything else?

There was me, thinking I could write down some durations and points and plot a nice curve afterwards. But the reality seems more complicated, and we don’t have enough datapoints. I’m not sure how to test this reliably.

How is reward track progress calculated?

in PvP

Posted by: Pixelpumpkin.4608

Pixelpumpkin.4608

Reward track progress is not tied to rank points in any way, and has its own balance between wins, losses, and the different arena types.
Reward track progress is linear, and the same for all tracks.
Potions give a fixed amount.

Awesome, thanks for sharing!

Knowing this, we can probably work out the rest on our own.

I have one more question – do bonus points (e.g. for top stats or autobalancing) count towards reward track progress at all?

No. But keep in mind celebration and birthday boosters increase reward track progress.

Thank you, kind sir. <3

Pixelpumpkin.4608

So far, we assumed that rank points earned translated to reward track progression 1:1. We further assumed that all reward tracks were equal in their progression. People have been editing the wiki back and forth because based on individuals players’ observations, reward tracks seem to take either 24000 or 40000 rank points to finish (or something completely different).

This does not seem to be the case, as you can see here.

Have any of you other players done any “research” on your own, or ideally, please please please, can a dev give us some insight?

  • Is reward track progress supposed to be the same as rank point progress?
  • Is reward track progress linear, i.e. does the “tier 1, slice 1” take the same amount of points (rank or reward points) to complete as “tier 8, slice 5”?
  • Do all reward tracks have the same point requirements or are some of them “slower” in their progression? I.e. does the glorious track require more points in total than a dungeon track?
  • Do bonus potions award a constant number of points (some say 250, some say 300, some say 500, some say half-a-slice, some say 1.25% of a total reward track but haven’t specified which reward track)

I have ~100 bonus potions stacked up right now, sadly that is not enough to go through the (up to) 6 different types of reward track (dungeon, regional, glorious, Blathazar, Dry Top and Silverwastes) and keep close notes on rank point progress vs. reward track progress and figure out the math behind this myself.

If you’re a dev and you just know how it is supposed to work, could you kindly let us know? Because it is not easy to test and it’s driving several of us crazy. We would like to be able to put accurate information in the wiki, and right now all we have is a bunch of conflicting empirical data and it’s a mess.

How about this:

TL;DR for Gaile

  • create a bomb, a grenade, and a medkit “weapon” held in hand
  • if back item is equipped and box set to “show backitem”: always show back item (override hobo sack)
—> even if it is a back item without skin, so people can go with nothing on their back
  • if back item is equipped and box set to NOT “show backitem”: show hobo sack
  • on standard player models (competitive PvP): show hobo sack
  • Shields will still clash with back items, but it is the same problem (and can be handled the same) as any other class that has access to shields or sheathed weapons on the back, such as bows, greatswords.

This way, people who always want to see their backpiece can do so. People who like hobosacks can wear them. People who would like absolutely nothing on their backs can have that. And people who need to see a visual tell in order to know what weapon or kit the engi is using at the time, can do so.

Community: did I summarize this correctly? Is this the easy fix that will make almost every player happy – those that hate and those that love and those few that rely on seeing hobo sacks?

yeap…sounds about right. Everybody should be happy then…though i might also add another point that i (personally) find should be present aswell

The developers read these forums virtually every day, but they derive the greatest benefit from reading a concise, combined set of comments from a wide range of forum members. Imagine reading the 12th or 20th thread that says virtually the same thing. Does that speak towards something positive: “This is definitely something we need to do?” Or does it point away from reading the forums, when there’s so much redundancy and so little value in repeated/duplicated comments? The devs are busy people.

I personally agree with this 100%.

And that’s why I am always so confused to see forum rules such as “Don’t necro and old thread! Make a new one!” Even these forums here discourage players from posting in existing threads (bump override). Not to mention all the threads that had those combined, concise sets of comments from a wide range of forum members, but were archived away in locked subforums instead of carried over. Sometimes threads are merged but most times they’re not. Lastly, when there’s only one thread going, and parts of it become “toxic”, sometimes the entire thread is locked (and in many forums, the rule is that you’re not supposed to create a new, similar thread) – but when the discussion is going on in three different threads, only the toxic one is locked, which allows the other two threads to continue the discussion itself.

I don’t mean to rant, but it is a bit mixed-message here on the topic of “use existing” vs. “create your own”. A clear ruleset (ideally supported by the forum software, for example “are you sure you want to create this as a new thread? Here is some similar-sounding titles:” instead of the bump-override) would really, really help.
