But But Mail Carriers

You have mail carrier A and your friend has mail carrier B

You will see mail carrier A when:

  • You send a mail to your friend. (Your friend will see it when they receive the mail.)
  • You buy/sell on the trading post
  • You get mail from ANet

You will see mail carrier B when

  • You receive a mail from your friend

That makes a lot of sense to me.

Besides: I have the aviator quaggan mail carrier, and I see/hear it ALL. THE. TIME. thanks to the trading post – I do love it, but I am also already almost completely sick of it. :P

Let us disable some finishers from randomizer

Pixelpumpkin.4608

The two reasons I don’t use the randomizer functionality:

The big reason

  • It shouldn’t include one-time finishers – I don’t want to accidentally use up my “special occasion”, limited supply finishers due to randomly coming up in the rotation.

The small reason

  • I really only want 2 or 3 themed finishers to show up, and they’re different ones for each of my themed characters.

Stalwart Armor Skin: Add to Personal Story?

Pixelpumpkin.4608

This again, I’ve seen this argument for bringing this armor set back countless times. It looks literally exactly the same as like half a dozen other medium armor sets.

Medium armor is the most overused and none unique of the three armor tiers. It’s all trenchcoats/dusters and a wide brimmed hat or a bandit mask. Like half of the kitten sets in the game are a very slight change to that set already.

We don’t need more of the same medium crap in the game. We need more variety not more of the same.

There’s nothing quite like the Stalwart Shoulders in the game. I was lucky to have them unlocked and I use them all the time.

The Tribal Armor is pretty unique in game, the different pieces would have many uses.

I don’t do the dailies for the AP – I do them for the reward track bonus potions and writs, all of which are being saved up for future content right now.

If/when ANet release a temporary reward track, I know I will be able to complete it a few times, whether or not I have a lot of time to play then; similarly (less importantly) I will be able to use writs at any future point on an alt, or possibly mastery tracks.

The dailies are well worth it for that alone. But I’m not unhappy about free omnomberries either. :P

or the one that I was going to take but didn’t have time for on April 1st where I swim through water and a friend takes a screenshot from below, of my character “flying” against the sky above – impossible to do as a selfie

While I agree that more flexibility would be nice (much as I appreciate not seeing everyone with arms out, so I can get better posed pictures in sepia), I have to disagree with this one comment. Here’s something I took very casually in the first few minutes of discovering the prank. It involves a wide FoV and a lot of zoom out, both standard settings for me now. (Also I put on auto-run so I could free-pan the camera while moving).

Awesome, and good to know, because I really want one. I didn’t manage this on my own when I tried, but I guess I’ll keep trying now

The potential for abuse seems quite high for this request, even with a cooldown.

Imagine the massive spamming at the wait before a mass populous Boss Event i.e. Shatterer.

Having to constantly hear a Zerg of people spamming their shouted battle cries would be enough to force Shatterer to never land.

In the settings:

[ ] hear only party members and commanders
[x] hear only party members

Things that we could do during April Fool’s day, and that we cannot do now:

  • Titanic screenshots
  • Other pictures with more than one person extending arms
  • Having a friend take a screenshot, as was necessary to get this one , or the one that I was going to take but didn’t have time for on April 1st where I swim through water and a friend takes a screenshot from below, of my character “flying” against the sky above – impossible to do as a selfie

In the original release, you would see the aviator cap only on yourself, not on others; but at least we were able to circumvent this by buying and wearing the aviator head skin, so it was still possible for more than one person to look awesome on a screenshot.

My suggestions for the aviator box would be:

  • See yourself in aviator outfit/arms, but also every other player that is currently using the box, or
  • See yourself and your party members in aviator outfit/arms, but no one else

Both of these would fix the above issues and allow us to take full advantage of the feature for awesome screenshots, as we were able on April 1st.

Why armor repairs are still in the game?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Pixelpumpkin.4608

Pixelpumpkin.4608

It not like defeat should be an inconvenience or anything, right?

But the thing is this is an inconvenience that rarely affect actual gameplay. I mean, its really rare to see someone die so many times in a row (so that his equipments would start to break instead of being damaged) before he could reach or pass by an armor repair. Unlike, lets say, GW1 death penalty, which really had a major impact on the party perfomance.

it works in high level fractals where you can die a lot in a row if unlucky.

It’s a non-issue in fractals as you could just log out to character select, log in, repair, and then re-enter the fractal instance.

This is clearly not the intended way of playing.

Fairly New Player: NO Living World Season 1?!

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Pixelpumpkin.4608

Living story 1 took place in the open world and was advertised as “world changing events – miss them and you won’t see them again”. Many people were complaining about this, and that’s why Anet made Living Story Season 2 repeatable.

Things like Scarlets Invasions, The Tower of Nightmares, the Marionette fight, Escape from LA and Battle for LA were large scale events and it would be hard to fit them into 1-5 person instances.

Btw, Kessex Hills was also changed like LA. The ruins of the tower are a reminder of the “Tower of Nightmares” Chapter of Living Story 1.

*Scratches head * It baffles me greatly how they thought it such a great idea to undo months or years of content (however long it took them to develop what they removed from Living World Season 1) knowing the community would get infuriated about it.

That is like me creating a masterpiece work of art that cannot be reproduced exactly the same, and then burning it and not looking back.

“Undo”?

I see it more like this: new players buying a season pass to a stadium and then wondering why they’re seeing a 2015 game and not a 2013 game.

“But games are recorded, so you can see them on TV later!”

Yes, and living story season 1 is on youtube.

It sucks to have missed some of the stuff but – as in life – it happened at a specific point in time, and now it’s in the past. I don’t understand why some people feel they are somehow entitled to reliving it.

Players are the ones paying into Guild Wars 2 to help Anet’s employees pay their bills and keep the game itself afloat for all to enjoy soooo why should players not be entitled to relive such an awesome experience in some way, shape, or form?

I’d like to remind you that this is a game without monthly subscription. The expectation should be: You pay once, you get the game in its current state, and that’s what you’re entitled to. Everything else is bonus.

I have played other games before, and many of them had special events. And sometimes I would miss them. And never once did I think to blame anybody but myself for not showing up.

“I had better things to do on New Years Eve, but now I’m back, quick everybody, throw the party AGAIN, for me!”

What do you mean by “bring back the old dye system”?

The dyes that cost 240g are gemstore dyes, and they were never available through any other means. The dyes that used to drop in game are all relatively affordable. Yes, celestial and abyss might take some saving-of-moneys, but that was never different. The main difference is that in your hero panel, the gemstore dyes are listed as locked. So, okay, now you are more aware that they exist in game.

(I have all of the normal dyes unlocked but none of the gemstore ones, and I consider my collection complete.)

Players with Titles: YOUR impression(s)?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Pixelpumpkin.4608

Pixelpumpkin.4608

  • What is your favorite UNLOCKED title you don in this game (optional: why)?

Honorary Skritt. Because it’s cute.

  • If you could choose to wear ANY title what would it be?

It depends on the character. I would like to wear titles that fit the characters. Anything with in-game relevance.

  • Pick a title you genuinely respect when you see a player with it and give a reason why this title reflects a positive feeling.

I don’t pay much attention to other player’s titles. When I do, I prefer titles that are somewhat “interesting” and not just “the best”.

  • Pick a title you dislike seeing on a player and provide a reason why this title impacts you negatively.

Overly boasty “look what I’ve done!” titles. I don’t care that much for other players’ achievements. I don’t begrudge them their titles, but can’t help to always feel a little sad for them. If someone displays a title because they think the world needs to know that they achieved this or defeated that, it just comes across as a little sad. It’s like meeting someone wearing a t-shirt that says “I’m the best in bed”.

But like I said, I don’t pay that much attention to titles anyway (this is one reason why I don’t).

  • Make up ONE title you would like to see implemented into the game and provide a brief description/objective on how to obtain it or why you would like to see it as a new title to obtain.

Like I said, I’d like to see more titles that have some sort of relevance in-game. Low-key stuff. Anything from “Warband member” to “Seraph” to “Disciple of Owl” to the Asura colleges. Maybe you could earn them by completing different variants of the personal story.

Generic ones, like “Adventurer for hire” and such.

I guess I am a roleplayer at heart.

Feel free to discuss this topic and/or share your ideas/interests in regards to titles. have fun!

I think titles are the slogan t-shirts of guild wars 2. If I, or my character, wouldn’t wear the t-shirt, then I, or my character, won’t wear the title.

And yes, I would very much wear an “Honorary Skritt” t-shirt in real life

EG is always slotted on my engi. It offers condi removal, cripple, poison and acid bomb for huge damage to an area that you are simultaneously escaping from. It’s toolbelt skill is a stun break. I just love the thing. So flexible. IN sPvP if you’re squishy like me and want to kill off a downed character, you run over, drop acid bomb, and it sorta takes care of itself from there. Oh A.B. is also a blast finisher to fire into your healing turret for area heal. In PVE group play it’s saved the “stack” many times with it’s condi removal on the entire group and blast finishing of water fields/ might stacking.

I agree, I take my elixir gun everywhere, from PvP to fractals. It’s probably my favourite kit, and a beautiful companion to either grenades or bombs. I don’t know if it’s underused by others, I’ve never paid attention to that.

Not being able to get a decent name

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Pixelpumpkin.4608

Pixelpumpkin.4608

is keeping me from enjoying the game…

This is brutal. EVERYTHING is taken. I’m one of those rare breeds who, admittedly, is rather OCD about charcter creation. I’ll spend hours getting my appearance just right, but even more important to me is my character’s name.

If I’m not in love with my character’s name, I get such a bad taste in my mouth when I go to level, and I inevitably become severely disheartened and lose interest. That toon will never see 80. :[

When I find a name I love, on the other hand, it’s pretty much guaranteed that I’ll steamroll the game all the way to max level and keep right on going. Totally immersed and fulfilled by every minute of the experience.

I can’t be the only person that feels this way. It just sucks. :[

I’m a sucker for lore-conform names. I haven’t had any trouble so far creating character names that I love! So, I don’t know what you’re into, but here’s how I do it:

Human

If desired <first name | last name> is taken, add a middle initial.

“Amelie” is taken? Make it “Amelie Stirling”, “Amelie E Stirling”, etc.

Norn

Add a last name or boasty title.

“Lars” is taken? “Lars Barreltosser” is not.

Asura

Asura can be tricky as use short, single-word names. The good news is that they love titles. There is an abundance of titles that you can steal from Asura NPCs, but you can also make up your own ones.

“Trixxi” is taken? Try “Peacekeeper Trixxi” or “Golemancer Trixxi”.

Charr

Charr are the easiest to name, due to their warband last names. The chance that your character name has been taken is so low, I’m not even going to leave an example here.

Sylvari

Sylvari are the trickiest of all, as they don’t use very many titles (although there is of course Wardens and such) and a lore-conform name should sound at least vaguely celtic. But if your desired Sylvari nae is taken, you can always ad “-ael” or a similar syllable to the end.

General advice

  • Stay away from accents, other than the ones that actually make sense for the name. It looks totally lame and makes it a pain for anybody to join on you, invite you to a party or whisper/mail.
  • Stay away from pop culture names. Create your own characters. “Danaerys Stormborn”, “Jon Snow” and all possible variations of those names are taken, and I’m sure your own ideas are more interesting anyway.

[Suggestion] 1-per-acct gem items as gifts

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Pixelpumpkin.4608

Pixelpumpkin.4608

I have read somewhere that the reasoning behind the restriction could be to prevent doubling up of the item on a given account, but I’m hoping that there could be some way to implement a check as the item is being sent, to prevent that kind of error, and enable the gifting of those one-per-account items.

That holds little water anymore as you can still gift armor skins, despite the fact that the recipient may already have that skin unlocked OR a skin item (unlocked) in their possession.

I agree that after selecting the recipient, the game should check and return an error message if the item is already unlocked (skins, minis, finishers, mail carriers) / the maximum number of upgrades has been reached (for, say, character slots, crafting licenses or collection expanders) / the item is in a character inventory or the player’s bank (toys). Or the game could attempt the delivery, with the option for the recipient to return it, in which case it would be automatically refunded to the sender.

I don’t have 5 accounts and I don’t care that sometimes I have gems left over – I pretty much know that there will always be something else coming in that I want and that my leftovers will go towards, or I could convert to gems – but the inability to gift most things is pretty annoying to me. I was able to gift the bass guitar and the aviator cap (both of which I had to inquire about in person before making the purchase), but not the mail carrier (I ended up just sending gold instead which is not the most amazing way to send a birthday present).

guild banks were removed from the analysis.

If interactions with guild banks were removed from your analysis of those affected then why would you then have this change affect guild banks?

So what you are saying is that you calculated how much gold is transferred via mail, and will now impose that limit on the account without incorporating gold transfers from guild banks since that would increase your numbers of people affected by this change.

But the thing is, playing 1920 airplane and blowing raspberries while wearing an aviator cap has nothing to do with commercial aviation, actual planes, plane crashes, or loss. Not a thing.

If I had recently lost someone in a plane crash, maybe I would sit this April Fool’s out, or maybe not. There’s no way for me to know how I would feel. But what I do know is that I wouldn’t let my grief out on everybody else, for something that to anybody else, and on any other day, would have been perfectly acceptable. soon as the player base stops coming in during a stupid event maybe they will think harder about what they do.

If that happened, I’m sure they would.

However, ANet’s April Fool’s pranks have always been extremely popular and there’s a large number of people who go out of their way to log in specifically for this one day. So I wouldn’t count on it.

It’s one day of silly fun. I have logged off for the day for less, on occasion, when I was annoyed. I lived! You’ll live.

Come tomorrow, all the complaining will be moot. But we will still have our awesome screenshots!
