Why there should be a dps meter

DPS meter in WvW could show overall dmg, which would be cool to know. A lot of variables to weigh, but it would be cool to know, anyway. Also, you can still determine the DPS of certain rotations (most applicable to 1v1s or PvDoors)

Rotations? What rotations? Skills have far too much of a situational element for any generic rotation to do anything more than ultimately kitten you overall. People still seem to have trouble realizing that damage/control/support isn’t tied to your character, it’s tied to your skills. Most skills have two or three of these attributes tied to them. While you could cast them on cool down they’re far more effective when used at better times, not sooner times.

Then let’s consider other factors. Say I drop a null field which gets stomped so now everyone in the area has chaos armor. How much damage do I get credit for from the confusion stacks caused by this to the enemies? How do you credit any condition damage at all, be it direct or indirect? Say Joe Necro applies a poison to my mesmer who in turn decides that that is rather rude so he gives the poison back to the necro. Who get’s credit for what?

This game is not built, no matter how you slice it, in a way that a raw damage or dps number can reflect actual combat. You can’t sit in a rotation and optimally fire away. You could be “perfect”, yet blocks, dodges etc. all skew the numbers. A dps meter simply does not make sense in GW2.

I will have you know my Ele has a refined and distinct rotation i use to stack might. Although, it could change if i knew how much DPS i was getting from it.

DPS meters were never intended to reflect “actual combat.” It’s just refined data that can be extrapolated to represent certain areas of combat. Not everything is about straight DPS, so if you rely solely on DPS meters as a basis of performance you are not using the tool or assessing performance properly.

And you think the majority of the ppl that would use DPS meters would use it properly? Seriously?

@AlietteFaye and oloap

No, some ppl are more efficient (or are able to help a party more or are not yet good enough but are working towards being able to use a full zerker set) with a different stat set and maybe actually makes the party more effecient wearing their other stat gear. Or an obvious reason that you both seem to have missed completely… wait for it… waaaaaiiiiiiiiiiiitttttttttt for IIIIIIIIIIIIIIT…………. MF armor. And yeah, I’ve read in forums of ppl doing this exact thing.

But this doesn’t exclude the fact that GW2’s emphasis is on VARIETY, which we keep seeing with all the different stats of armor they have and will probably continue to make. The latest being Sentinal stats that emphasize vitality over power.

PlagueParade.7942

Variety is king. Adding a DPS meter eliminates said variety creating cookie cutter builds that you must have to be apart of a party. Even making it just a personalized DPS meter will have parties asking for a link of a screen shot to see your DPS and then deciding if you are worthy enough to join them. All in all this pretty much creates a type of Big Brother is Watching mentality. Someone earlier said DPS meters were for games that rely on the Trinity. They are correct. This game does not have that Trinity and this was something A-net continually stress as being part of their game. Adding a DPS meter would undermine this, forcing players to go a certain direction for their class, else they get booted from the party. DPS meters are for games that implement the Trinity. This game does not.
You keep saying that we already have this by parties asking to ping your armor. It’s not hard to create a look-a-like set that you wear while pinging said zerker gear that sits in your inventory collecting dust.

The first one was a mistake. It was two of them mashed together and misaligned. If you don’t notice that on the two blades then you can definitely notice that on the two guards and two pummels that show. If they were going to make a blade look like the top picture, doing it the way it was would have been an awful and lazy way to go about it.

@ OP: You can 3 man this dungeon it’s not that hard. I did it this way when it first opened and several times since.

What I like about dungeons is seeing the reactions of friends who experience the content for the first time.

Thank god I don’t have teamspeak or the friends that I’ve gone into dungeons would be deaf from my cursing. Oh yay I dodged twice yet I’m still in this red circle and oh I’ve been one shot and now I get to lay here not able to play the game until someone takes the time to res me. Hey awesome I’m back up thanks for the res oh no I’m down again before I got a chance to do anything because of the one shot mechanic…

Just pepper that with foul language and adjust the volume to about 100db…

I don’t even know of any mob that does a one hit wonder in this dungeon. Might I suggest some vit or toughness perhaps to keep you from getting taken down in one. =oP

Or better yet, just make it where we can transmute the armor skins of all armors to any class we want. More variety less time consuming in making new armor skins right now instead of improving on other things like new dungeons, more maps and events, etc. (Mind you I mean just the skins NOT THE STATS of the armor).

So the day the adventure box game came out I managed to get locked in a pretty far zoom out. I figured maybe it’s just something that occasionally happens in this game but have found that it can also happen in the world. The only solution I’ve found so far is to relog though sometimes that doesn’t fix it either and I have to do a complete shut down of the game and restart it to fix it.

PlagueParade.7942

Right now is not a “fair price.” This solution here though, yes you can eventually get one in about 16 tries or more. I’d probably put the chances of getting an 1/8 of a token as high as getting mystery tonics. Will it cost more than if they added it for sale in the gem store yes. The winters day ones were for 500. I would have gladly spent 500 gems for one of these but they are trying to make money as well. So at least here it’s a profit for them and security for us knowing that we would eventually get one and if you had say 4 or 5 1/8 tokens and get a fused token on the next try I would think most people would continue to get keys till they got the rest of those partial tokens to get their second skin.

Each their own opinion though.

Fused Weapons

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

PlagueParade.7942

A decent solution would be just to have a higher chance to get PARTS of a token like 1/8. Get four 1/8s of a token put it in mf get a 1/4 token, get four 1/4 tokens place in mf you get a full fused token. This way they can still make decent bank and people will evetually get their fused wep (you would still have a chance at a full fused token as it is right now, it’s just those that are not so lucky can eventually get a fused token as well).

Just wondering if the fused weapon skin would overwrite the existing skin of your weapon?

I mean, if i like my current exotic weapon skin, if i consume the fused weapon skin, will it overwrite like transmutation?

Lets say above is not the case, then can I activate and de-activate the fused weapon skin as and when I like?

Sorry for the noob questions, never really tried these things, so am pretty curious.

Yes it overwrites the SKIN (not the stats). I"m just clarifying I know you just mean the skin.

Can I get decent salvage from one of these things? they are ugly as heck. No idea why anet made them account bound. That’s just silly.

That’s easy to answer. It means more keys will be sold since you have to buy gems to even try for them meaning less people just spending in game gold to purchase through the TP

I think they did it right with the Christmas weapons. I still got the keys a few times for a chance at a ticket but ended up buying a couple from the gem store. The problem with this is it wouldn’t have been surprising if their sales did not do as well if they had just made it chest only. I’m sorta hoping that they just put up the skins some point soon in the gem store. The question is how many people who spent loads already will be upset if they did that after the fact.

I tried 40 keys (up to 50 from occasional keys from blc). On my 2nd key I got Endless mystery tonic (beast). I have no use for this. I said “kitten!,” literally. On my 2nd to last try I get… wait for it… Endless mystery tonic (furniture). Once again I said “Kitten!!,” literally. I have no use for this. Why oh why did they make them account bound. You always get what you don’t want and hardly ever what you do.

I did laugh at the absurdity of it all.

Edit: Would have been nice if you could have gotten maybe a 1/16 of a fuse token from each BLC (or at least a very high ratio of getting a 1/16 token) Toss four 1/16 in mf get an 1/8 toss in four 1/8 get a 1/4 toss in four 1/4 get a fused token. I know this idea would never fly just a nice thought.

Is this about leveling up as fast as possible or is it rather a “the journey is the reward”-type situation?

I like to learn as much as possible on the class I level next. Would I like to level my necro fast, yea, but not at the expense in learning how to play her well. I ask things about type of gear stats to use when leveling and skills/traits I should aim for 1st, 2nd, 3rd, etc, in order to get the best output for her. I ask about dungeons so I can learn to better work with teams and what part she would play in them. I do want to use a staff because I do have a staff in mind that I want for her (no it’s not the Bifrost, or Final Rest =oP). Yes, I’ve heard that minions aren’t really great but that doesn’t mean they aren’t useful while leveling but I don’t want to be reliant on them in the end (they would be good cannon fodder for jade maw, though). All of this leads to a good foundation in making my necro work best for my future play style with her.

I’m gonna start leveling up my necro hopefully tomorrow but am looking for a decent build that I can use to level with. Haven’t found a guide, maybe haven’t looked hard enough. Am looking for what skills are best to use as well as what to place in early traits (11-20, 20-30, etc). What weapons/armor are best to use early on along with stats. When I do reach dungeon levels I plan to level there when I can (may skip AC though), so what type of builds (traits/skills/gear) work well in dungeons early on? Am curious about end game gear too was thinking that prec, tough, condi being a good combo but since I’m new to this I can’t be sure. I know by end game equip I’d like to use staff as a secondary wep at the least. Thanks in advance for taking the time to help, it’s very much appreciated.

So, if it happens, legendary weapons will become ascended but will there also be other weapons that will be ascended as well? I mostly ask this cause I like quite a few of the skins out there and would like to be able to at the least transmute them to be ascended (no, I would never transmute the stats of a legendary weapon to the skin I would prefer, that would just be a huge waste of gold).

Do you think there will, or should be, other ascended weapons if legendary ones become as such?

I read that the 14g one can be applied to any backpiece (once) so is that not the same for the 11g one or do you have to use a transmutation stone to apply the 11g one to a stat backpiece and that’s the reason why it’s cheaper?

Also does the 11g one have a 2nd backpiece that can be applied on any other backpiece? (I have that mad kings memoirs and was wondering if the near 11g one had the secondary backpiece to apply it to).

Speeding up the orbs is probably the better option. Maybe not as fast as an arrow or bullet but close to it would be nice.

I wonder if they put back pent/shelt the way it was would these overflow issues subside a bit because I definitely see fewer players doing pent/shelt now then before the patch and they have to get their rares/exotics somewhere. Farming the meta events is just making up for the lack of it.

The only other immediate solution that I would suggest is going to said events 10min+ early at least then if you get into overflow your chances of getting back before it starts/finishes would be higher due to being higher up in the queue.

It still remains that if you use any back piece (except for the one apparently on that quaggon backpack (pvp winter’s day backpack didn’t work and my others were being used, thanks for the info by the way Burnweed)) it still remains that when you use a soulbound backpiece or possibly any other soulbound item to another that is soul bound upon use said item will still be soulbound to said toon.

Honestly, adding this little tidbit to a fine transmutation stone OR making another transmutation stone that would add that extra bit, along with what a fine transmutation stone gives, to make items account bound would be a pretty good idea.
