Server population is based on the amount of accounts registered to that server.

The link that SantusVeritas.4607 has posted was a pre-edited version of Eva’s post.
She changed it to reflect the real information.
Devs have confirmed fixes for the ranger pets. Does this mean it will affect the AI on necro pets too? Any plans to extend those fixes to necro pets?
Any plans for the necro pet AI?
That just sounds like unefficient programming.
Or you can do AC once, 30 minutes, and get one gold
Arenanet response that server population is tied to accounts registered to that server:
https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/game/gw2/Server-Populations/first#post703192
It fluctuates because people switch server either very late, or very early.
It’s tough.
What I can suggest is teamspeak, and ash legion spy kits.
Also for the torches, kill all but 1 mob, then when everyone is ready, kill that one mob.
Did the event twice again today, but they never swam off the island. Has anyone tried to do this event yet?
Tried again today, did the “Protect Bill and Hekja as they clear Risen from the area” quest, as the wiki explains it’s a pre-requisite to the Campaign Against Taidha Covington event.
NPC’s never swam off the island after doing the event TWICE!
Puffintoast, thank you for so eloquently describing it.
I love how you describe the ‘tease’ window, as this is truly apparent, and a very good way to put it.
Sadly you’re right, GW2 has become a cash cow, and unfortunately people are buying into it. How many posts do you see around here from people outright saying “I can’t be bothered to farm cause I don’t get nothing, so I just bought gold from anet”?
That’s why they’re winning and we’ll never get back what we once had.
Meh, I’ll make it back
However for the pain of forging all of those, I’d rather use other money making methods.
Ok, I bit.
Bought 200 lapis nugget and 200 spinel nugget
On a bit over 100 forges, I got 3 silver doubloons, for A NET LOSS OF 1 AND A HALF GOLD! yay.
Seems like a 0.03% chance for doubloons for me.

Orichalcum foil hat of the conspiracist on:
Don’t you find it strange that the drop in loot coincides with the higher return of Real Life money to ingame gold?
Rare items are the main source of ectos, and you need 250 ectos to make those high end items
It used to be somewhat cheaper to buy 250 ectos, but since the drop rate has lowered considerably and the ecto price keeps raising, AND the gem to gold ratio keeps raising, the technique is quite simple:
Create a false shortage of a “base” item, and make it attractive to BUY INGAME GOLD so that MORE PEOPLE WILL GIVE Arenanet their money.
Free to play? Sure. Don’t forget the fine prints, though.
The only person that’s gonna earn money is you, by selling all of the stones you stocked up on.
This “trick” was revealed yesterday on reddit, and is a sure way to LOSE money, as the chance to get the doubloon is extremely minuscule:
Stop trying to get people to buy your junk.
Great, I’m glad we all agree that server capacity is the amount of people registered to that server, as Eva suggested in her response to this exact same thread at https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/game/gw2/Server-Populations/first#post703192
Thanks.
Well anyway, the official word from arenanet is that server capacity is amount of players registered to that server, you can see the official arenanet response here:
https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/game/gw2/Server-Populations/first#post703192
It’s quite clear, and if you choose to find it ambiguous because it’s not what you wanted to hear, then suggest it as a feature.
(edited by PowerCat.5738)
I have answered it in my previous messages. Read up.
From a programming standpoint, you have to make it the amount of registered users on the server.
You’re not answering the question. Still.
Why do the servers go down from full to high every morning.
People usually move servers before going to bed, or after waking up.
So your answer, let me get this straight, is that:
Servers go down from full to high every day in the morning because everyone moves server at the same hours – between 5am and 8am.
Never mind that transferring has a 1-week cooldown, people are doing this same thing, every day.
Do you really believe this? Maybe you believe that the entire US government are aliens?
You haven’t answered my question.
I have answered it in my previous messages. Read up.

Now your turn to answer my question
Not saying its based on current players.
But saying its 100% based on registers users is BS too.
The “player capacity” cap is set on a “per-map” basis, that is the entire system of the overflow. When it’s reached, the overflow servers create an instance. And that is also why it’s not related to server capacity.
I have answered it in my previous messages. Read up.

I have explained that many times before. You simply choose to ignore it.
Let’s suppose that server status is current people playing at that time (which it isn’t), what happens if there’s 20 000 accounts registered to that server, but the server only handles 10 000 concurrent players? what happens to the rest? it tells them sorry you can’t connect?
Many times mods have said server capacity is people REGISTERED to that server.
https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/game/gw2/Server-Populations/first#post703192
There’s a quote from a mod. WHY ARE WE STILL ARGUING THIS?
Because what she said isn’t clear.
And because server population changes by time of day, every day.
Registered accounts do not fluctuate by time of day, every day.
It’s always lower from like 5am-8am, when late night players go to bed and early morning players haven’t woken up yet.
You must be new to MMOs. All MMOs are quite empty at those hours of the morning. That’s exactly what you would expect to see if the server list was tracking people currently online.
Well answer me this, then.
Ok, let’s suppose that server status is current people playing at that time (which it isn’t), what happens if there’s 20 000 accounts registered to that server, but the server only handles 10 000 concurrent players? what happens to the rest? it tells them sorry you can’t connect?
How does server full relating to currently online players make any sense?
The overflow is created when an AREA has reached a certain cap of players, but it has no direct relation to SERVER capacity.
Eva said: when you see a server FULL means that the people who’ve chosen that server as theirs, or players who have moved to that particular server, have reached the cap
How is that ambiguous? It’s the amount of people who have chosen that server as theirs, or have moved to that server, it’s reached its limit.
Many times mods have said server capacity is people REGISTERED to that server.

Server population is not players online at that time, it’s players registered to that server.
Yes, it’s full of accounts of people who aren’t playing.
You keep repeating this, in every thread, several times a day, but it is not true.
Otherwise how do you explain servers keep going down from full to heavy in the mornings, and back up again every evening?
People switch server. it’s still free, but you have to wait 7 days to do it again.
Do you really think there’s that many people playing at 8am on a tuesday?
(edited by PowerCat.5738)
Hydra Queen doesn’t seem to work for me.
Server population is not players online at that time, it’s players registered to that server.
Yes, it’s full of accounts of people who aren’t playing.
Transmute it with those level 80 spineguard and you can use anything as upgrade item.
Don’t do the same path within 2 hours period and you won’t get DR

The overflow is created when an AREA has reached a certain cap of players, but it has no direct relation to SERVER capacity.
The FULL status that you see if registered accounts on that server, any other way doesn’t make any technical sense.
The reason of the fluctuation, as explained, is that people MOVE SERVERS.
Yes, this does mean that servers are full of people who aren’t playing. Did you think all servers were always full of active players? Unfortunately not, those are full of idle accounts.
Why are we still arguing?
Well CC Eva said that her first answer was wrong, and that Player Count is the amount of people registered to that server.
Player count is the amount of people registered to that server at any given time. The reason why it fluctuates is because people move servers. The reason why it fluctuates less than it used to is because of the 7 days limit
supposedly they’re full not because of the amount of people currently online, but the amount of accounts tied to the server.
Yes, and WoW’s 10 million customers are including trial and “free” accounts, as well as those that are past canceled and expired. Well, that one actually might be true…
But, no, the servers aren’t based on “accounts tied to them”, they are actually players playing the game at that time, of which there are a lot of them.
https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/game/gw2/Server-Populations/first#post703192
Last post is by a dev. The statement seems a little vague, and I don’t believe it’s necessarily true, but server status might not be entirely based on users actively online.
I asked Eva for clarification on that message, as it was fairly vague.
Here was her response.
First message says players online at that time, but then she corrects herself saying “players registered to that server”
Are the server populations reported by number of accounts or by people actually playing? If it’s the latter then I don’t see why any server cleaning would need to be done. If it’s the former, well then that just doesn’t make sense.
Server Population is the amount of accounts currently registered (or have moved) to that server.
Players move server regularly, so keep checking once in a while and you may see that the one you want to transfer to has open spots.
Sorry Tallis, they were not removed. The event was changed, now it will alternate selling tonics and whistles.
If I run a dungeon with a group and they want to exploit these bugs, do I risk being banned if I follow them? Should I just exit right away?
Red posts on the necro forums, acknowledging stuff!
If champion loot was fixed it’d give that much of an incentive to go out and kill large mobs. if they’d have good chances for rares, that could fix the drop rate a bit
So we went to the laughing gull island and killed the risen captain with the two NPCs as described in http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/The_Campaign_Against_Taidha_Covington
The event is ensured to begin once the NPCs Bill Kinsey, Hekja Ravensbeak, and Lionscout Jenny have left the island. They will be seen swimming away after the aforementioned group event, to return with the Lion’s Arch Galleon.
The two npcs left as described, but 30 minutes later they are still nowhere to be seen and the event is not progressing.
Has anyone been experiencing this as well? Trying to go for the Hydra Queen achievement!
Kholer is easy, just dodge when you see his sword shine – that’s when he’s about to pull you to him and spin.
If you can dodge that, he’s a piece of cake. He barely does damage with is normal attack.
Yeah, since posting that message 22 days ago, I’ve done path 1 a few times. It’s not hard once you know what you’re doing, and have a competent team.
Thanks Arianna, for being so eloquent about it. That’s exactly what I meant.
Well it’s happened again.. All our friend list nicknames are gone.
Who are those people? I don’t remember!
Crucible of Eternity is an awesome dungeon, the setting is very cool.
Myself, I’m a big fan of Path 2’s Subject Alpha fights. It seems really tough at first, but once you can dodge out of his AoE, it’s a very easy fight.
However, it’s a fight that keeps you in constant action, it’s very fun!
But Superior rune of the Soldier gives shouts heal a condition, that’s just too good to pass up.
The message with the box said explicitely to open it on a level 80.
They probably took down GW2 to fix some horrible bug or something.
It seems like as of a few days ago (two days), Colossus Rumblus’s scream attack has a gigantic area of effect. It seems to be 180 degrees – affecting even people standing to its SIDE.
The Howling King still has his normal area of effect, but Colossus is seriously much more different than it was!
Has anyone else noticed this?
So go in Lion’s Arch and say “Looking for group Ascalonian Catacombs”
The only thing holding you back from doing dungeons is yourself.
Put yourself out there, you’ll get invites.
Ogre Pet Whistle were not removed from the game:
Went to Gladefall Waypoint, town after bridge was destroyed.
Went to Grostogg’s Kraal Waypoint, the town was invaded by branded so we cleared the town. Gortho, Son of Malik (pet whistle vendor) was dead, in the town.
After the event, Gortho, Son of Malik went outside town with a yellow circle on its head, it started the escort quest. We escorted him to Gladefall Waypoint.
When we got there, event finished and he built the town, and became a vendor. He sold the ogre pet tonic.
A few minutes later, the town was attacked by flame legion – it was an event. We defended the town and won the event.
Gortho, Son of Malik was now selling ogre pet whistle
