You don’t get any “credit” for it, no. If you do it before, you still got to do it again when you get Victory or Death.

On the upside, it’s a really easy dungeon… Just extremely padded, boring, uninteresting and a massive limp kittened let down…. But it is easy….

People will instantly tell you that you lack humility, that you are an elitist, that you are despicable etc; for no reason.

Ironically, because they lack humility.

This isn’t a game thing. It happens everywhere, especially in the real world. Nobody accepts that they’re not the best at everything ever. Oh sure, they’ll say they do. It’s socially acceptable that they do. But they don’t. Secretly they know they’re crap, but they don’t accept it. They’ll deny it to their graves if they can.

They are bad, of course. In my experience most people are really bad at mostly everything. Which is why they’re insecure. People who are good generally don’t have issues with being told they’re not. They’ll either prove you wrong, or, more often than not, not give a kitten, since they are “secure” – they know and have evidence that they are.

Of course, there is the issue that most people who claim to be good really aren’t. They’re just another subset of the bad ones that decided to take their denial one step further. But, then again, good players aren’t particularly bothered by it either. It’s only the insecure bad players that feel threatened by it. Much in the same manner that big dogs are usually a lot more quiet than tiny dogs. It’s the tiny dog that is scared of everything, and thus barks at everything. The big dog doesn’t care. You can attack him if you want, it’s your funeral.

Because someone that is actually good have no need to shout about being good?

What if it is relevant to the conversation? What if it merely a statement, part of a discussion? You’re right that most good players don’t usually mention they’re good, but sometimes it’s relevant, at which point it’s merely a statement of fact. And why do you care? If you don’t believe it to be true, why does it upset you? I doubt you go around the street correcting everyone who says something you believe to be untrue, especially if it’s not an objectively easy answer.

No, the overall system is fine.

This system could (and should, actually) be in place for the holograms though, much like the boxes in Super Adventure Box (still the best update to date). They’re much harder to get/more limited availability mobs, that die fast and everyone wants/needs for achievements.

After how good SAB was, I don’t understand why they keep going backwards in so many areas…

I’m agreeing with Vayne… Oh dear, must check for raining blood, talking cows and other signs of the apocalypse…

On a serious note, Vayne is right. Dailies are, for the most part, easy. Go into WvW for a few minutes and you usually end up with 1 or 2 free dailies at least. Also amazing if you have Veteran Slayer as WvW is littered with vets.

Another ridiculously easy way to get the ambient killer achievement is Ebon Hawk fortress. On the south exit there’s a mining area of sorts, with an area that spawns around 10 rats very quickly. Tada. Free daily.

Dailies are super simple if you’re smart.

ProxyDamage.9826

Don’t get me wrong, I agree with you that the design is wrong, but there is a reason for this.

The reason they made all dungeon paths reward the same reward, is to prevent organized speedclear groups to farm the ‘harder’ content at 1/4th of the time of what the normal players do it for the highest reward. That’s what happened in DoA in GW1. I was one of those SC players. I made close to 200k/hour in that area (more like 180k/hour), because after each run, I also went around and picked up loot that was left behind to salvage into materials that sold for a good chuck of cash. We could clear it in 25-35minutes on casual runs, in HM, which meant double the rewards from NM. PUGs on the other hand cleared that area in 1h30 on average in NM. That’s 3 times as long, for half the reward. So we were basically making around 6 times more money/hour than PUGs did. I think that was a situation they wanted to avoid.

Now, in theory, that doesn’t sound completely unreasonable. However, what this resulted into is that PUGs will just farm the fastest and easiest dungeon over and over, because it’s the best money/hour scenario for them. Whereas the people that actually bother doing the harder content, are stuck with absolutely terrible rewards for their efforts and quit the game eventually.

Actually, I’m pretty sure this is more of an issue of “rushed out the door design” than anything. Cause right now you still have the issue of organized teams making a lot more than pugs in certain dungeons (like CoF1), while other dungeons are just plain not worth doing reward wise (e.g.: Arah).

Either ways, I have a way around that, and am planning on dropping a suggestion about it soon.

But it is.
It have a unique skin. Just like the other dungeons.

… Let that one sink in for a while…

mostly becaue arah gives 100% exotics of yur choices after few runs….like every explorable dungeon.

Thus the issue. Arah is by far the hardest explorable dungeon. Lupicus is a great boss (except for the whole “shooting outside the marked circle” kitten, but whatever), but also easily harder than any other boss in any other dungeon. But doing Arah P4 rewards you the same as CoF P1, or CoE P1…

It’s an issue with the current dungeon design…

Problem solved. I know I’m the minority here, but people come across as incredibly “8 year older throwing a hissy fit” kinda whinny when they complain about other people’s behavior in a game like this where you have a block feature and are never forced to interact with specific players. “I don’t like it!” – Fine. Don’t play with them. Problem solved.

I wish real life came with a button you could press that made someone you don’t like completely unable to interact with you in any way, shape or form. Man, my world would be a lot quieter, happier, and less stressful. Heaven.

1 of my friends really wanted the fused greatsword. He farmed alts for keys day and night, spent gems in keys, opened probably around 100 chests. Nothing.

Another friend of mine opened 4 chests, got one. Some guy opened 4 chests got 3 claim tickets.

I really wanted a Sclerite GS. I farmed around 70 boxes. Nothing. Some low level warrior stumbled upon one on the first day of the event while leveling in Southsun. Saw someone with 3 of them.

Never make big investments prior to patches, you never know what’s going to change.

Unless you’re trying to guess market trends to make a profit, at which point, you guessed wrong, deal with it.

This is a really clever way to fix 2 problems at once: the inflation of T6 dust due to ridiculous rarity, and the deflation of ectoplasms since the increased availability of rares, without resorting to asinine solutions such as increasing their rarity again (for example, by lowering the return rate on rares).

Nothing but good things to say about ANet on this one.

When I was new to the game I used to think things like Defiant and Unshakable were used to prevent stun-locking bosses to death… But that’s not really it is it?

I mean, in dungeon-based play you have 5 people, and most classes have little access to hard-CC, especially long-duration hard CC, while bosses have a truck load of health. You couldn’t really stun-lock bosses to death even if you tried. But maybe you could “lock them” for longer periods than intended…?

In open world, however, that could be an issue, as you can have hundreds of people sitting around…

…But wouldn’t it be a lot easier, to just add “diminishing returns” to hard CC…? I mean, in a way I guess that’s what defiant does, but it does it in a rather brutish manner.

Wouldn’t it a far better mechanic if the boss stacked defiant stacks each time he’kitten with CC, with each stack diminuishing its effectiveness? Much like Frenzy the boss would lose stacks as time passed without being CC.

If CC actually becomes a viable thing in boss fights then you also open up the boss design to more interesting fights. Fights where you need to interrupt the boss or get hit hard, for example. You open up control as a viable thing, instead of the typical tank, spank and dodge.

Zasalamel is horribly animated. Notice how he’s blurred out for the majority of his animations? They couldn’t think of more than three or four moves that didn’t have massive clipping and movement issues and so they had to use gaudy smear frames to cover up the remainder of his moveset. And that makes perfect sense since scythes are designed to be used in one single repetitive motion, the amount of ways you can animate them without their wielders anatomy getting in the way is almost zero.

The bad animations in Zasalamel are more an issue of the studio than the concept – they could have easily been done right. He’s a proof of concept. On top of that, a fighting game character like Zasalamel, in a fighting game like the Soul Calibur series, has a ridiculously larger amount of different attack animations than anything in GW2. The job becomes exponentially easier when you need 10 different animations instead of 50 or 100. Even more so when they can be simpler or more “grounded” animations, instead of the circus trick and over the top kungkittenmovie/anime acrobatics expected from SC.

And that’s only accounting for them being used as melee weapons. The sky’s the limit when it comes to more magic-oriented ways – e.g.: Mesmers and greatswords.

And please explain what would be so difficult about animating a cannon? You hold it and shoot, don’t we already two such weapons in the game? Hand held cannons were a common weapon in China for almost 300 years before spreading to Europe, hence the comment about Cantha.

Nothing… Except, as you’d say, it would be ridiculous.

Chinese “hand cannons” were called cannons because they hadn’t invented the concept of a rifle yet. They’re, in everything, more cumbersome, clumbsy and inefficient rifles, which is why they went the way of the dodo once rifles came around. Except for the ones that were basically portable siege weaponry, like mortars… Same issue.

We have rifles in this game. And proper cannons. According to your “this wouldn’t apply/would look silly in real life” argument then it’s the exact same issue. No sane living being would carry around a “hand cannon” when they have rifles and pistols. The only way to turn it into something worth shooting would be to turn it into an actual siege weapon in power, which, in turn, would blow up the limbs and/or torso of the user whenever shot.

If you’re going to challenge someones ideas, make sure you actually have some idea what you’re talking about first.

You first.

Obviously, they’re both possibly within a game based on magic and fiction. My only problem is that you raise the issue that Scythes can never be used for combat in any fashion, not even within the fantasy-fueled universe of GW, but a hand cannon would fit like a glove in this world.

By the way, scythes, and other hacked up varieties, were used as weapons, actually, by the Chinese for once, and about every farmer-encompassing army prior to firearms being invented – inefficient, but as it turns out, a lot less so than trying to punch a sword.

Scythe

We have it, it’s called a staff. It is physically impossible for a scythe to work as a martial weapon, and more importantly it’s visually impossible, you couldn’t possibly animate a character using a scythe and not have it look completely ridiculous. The only exception is b-list anime and that’s because they use a sickening amount of cross cuts.

It can and has been done. Zasalamel. Your argument is invalid.

It’s also hilariously ironic that that’s the reason you provide against… And then suggest things like:

I know there is no “best” class, however I would like your personal opinion on which 3 is your favorite. I want the class to be, in your opinion, well-versed in all aspects of the game, PVE, Dungeons, WvWvW, s/tPVP, exploration, etc.

Thanks!

Note: All of the “best” and “worst” refers to these 3 classes only.

Warrior is the best (by far) in PvE and Dungeon play, but the worst in both PvP and WvW.

Ranger is the worst in dungeons, but possibly the best in PvP (with some builds), ok in open world PvE, and strong/very strong (depends on build and what you do with it) in WvW.

Thief is possibly the best in WvW, but the worst in open world PvE, decent in dungeons and good in PvP.

Do keep in mind that they’re all decent enough at anything, so it depends on where you’d like to focus more, or what playstyle you end up prefering – can’t help you there.

Just have A greatsword. At lvl buy a lvl 80 exotic (only, don’t waste money on items bellow lvl 80 and bellow exotic rarity) when you can. Your first buy should probably be with Berserker’s stats – Power/Precision/Critical Damage, but that depends on your gear.

More like an upleveled tag is a free badge tag in 90% of most situations.

So is being caught in certain situations as certain classes. Deal with it. Know your limitations and don’t get caught out of your depth.

There is a reason why we have some information on our enemies (not enough, imo). In a fight you gotta know who to prioritize.

Also the point of upscalling isn’t for you to pretend you’re a real lvl 80, but to prevent you being laughably instagibbed in any fight against actual 80s – like in most traditional MMOs.

Super Adventure Box had the perfect core system.

You could work for what you wanted, although that was entirely personal and non-tradeable (i.e.: you couldn’t farm a profit), or you could get lucky and earn a hefty sum through a tradeable weapon.

I don’t mind them adjusting how difficult it is to attain something (as long as it’s reasonable of course), but I want to be able to actually earn what I want through work, and not just hope I get lucky, and if I don’t happen to be lucky, all I’ve done was for nothing.

Alternatively, just sell the items for gems. I don’t mind paying for items, but I refuse to dump money into a lottery. I farmed over 50 supply crates in southsun for the one skin I really wanted. (Part 2)

ANet knows this, and for that, they sell MF boosts and even included a nice little permanent 200% MF bonus on the southsun event (and a pathetic gold find boost… why? Even if it made millions, you can’t buy the skins with money).

And then, on the other side, you have diminishing returns, which start becoming evident within less than 1 hour of play and you nerf farming spots whenever they’re found. I’ve done enough farming since this event started to start noticing the patterns in the DR system, and when I start “fresh”, with almost 400% MF, I find something in almost every drop. A green, a T5 material, a blue… something. Almost no junk or whites. Before an hour elapses I’m starting to find junk or nothing in most kills. This is consistent behavior. It hasn’t just happened “once” or to myself only. You sell 1 hour MF boosts ffs, and your DR kicks in before that…

And we have dungeons… You need hundreds of tokens for each piece of gear, each run gives you around 66-69 tokens, and you only get rewarded for each path once a day per character…

And I haven’t forgotten “Ascended”. Originally designed to appease the vertical progression crowd along with fractals, they’re slowly bleeding into the rest of the world and, as BiS, forcing you to keep up… No, 5 to 10% stat increase is not kittening trivial in WvW…

This is all from the company that said, and I quote: “We do not make grindy games”. Really now? What game are you making then? Cause I’d love to play it.

So, Arena Net, what do you want? You need to decide on where you’re going with your game’s design… Do we have to grind or not? If you want us to grind, then you can’t also punish us for grinding. If you don’t want us to grind, then you can’t force us to grind to acquire content…

Personally I’d prefer it if you stuck to your original statement, the one that lured me into the game, of no grind. That’s my thing, and this is your game. But if you do want to have grind, then you need your game’s mechanics to accommodate it.

Cheers.

ProxyDamage.9826

For the record, yes, this will be long, and no, there’s no tl;dr.

I think it’s no secret that the southsun event has left a bad taste in quite a few people’s mouths. If most people seem to dislike RNG (based on the feedback I’m seeing in the forums and in-game, and on the fact that, even before this event, one of the most common complaints was RNG – the precursor drops), especially low odds RNG, then very low odds RNG within low odds RNG is just atrocious.

However, all the recent farming this recent patch made me (us?) do has, in my view, further emphasized a far more problematic core issue with this game: End game, as it is right now, suffers from inconsistent and paradoxical design… Borderline schizophrenic.

“Farm!”
“Don’t farm!”
“You MUST farm!”
“No wait, you CAN’T farm!”
FARM FOREVER!
NEVER!

As it is your end game incorporates at the same time both elements that reward or force you to grind, and elements that actively discourage or outright punish grinding.

You want to make a legendary? Well son, I hope you have your farming overalls on because between an extremely long shopping list and very low availability of some of the items you have to farm a lot if you hope to acquire one within a life time.

Want a full dungeon set? I hope you enjoy doing that dungeon to death and back! By the time you’re halfway through your set you’ll be so sick of dungeons in general, and the one you’re forced to farm in particular, that you’ll never want to touch dungeons again! I know I’d rather play piano with a hammer on my knees before I do Crucible of Eternity again!

You want a Sclerite Weapon? I hope you took some vacations, because between the two ridiculously low RNGs, you’ll either get extremely lucky or you’re going to be there for a while… Like, ever. Personally I’ve been farming the island every day, more hours than a normal person should, I even bought MF gear specifically for it. I’ve gotten over 50 crates, over 10 mini reed riders, more Settlers items than I can count, 2 Mini Farens, a southsun Shark Axe skin, an acquabreather skin, and 0 weapon claim tickets. I’m currently unemployed, I can do this kitten almost all day and I’m hardly unlucky with crate drops, and even that is not enough…

And you can’t even say that this is an attempt to get people to buy gems… you can’t buy the skins either ways, you can only buy boxes, and the chances of getting what everyone wants out of the kittening boxes (the weapon claim tickets) are horrible either ways. Might as well play the real world lottery then… The chances are horrid either ways, but the latter at least stands to make you a real millionaire.

You want one of the mystic forge made exotics? Farm, farm, farm! Most of them require 250 stacks of very rare items like Lodestones, often of more than 1 very rare material…

Because….? Badges of Honor are the standard WvW base reward.

Note: “Because I felt like it” and “Because I said so” are not acceptable reasons.

The Language Filter

Sure..but it’s still against the TOS to curse in the open world.

Actually, all I’ve seen so far points to this being a lie. You don’t get banned for “cursing” (which would be immesurably stupid from ANet). You get banned for insulting people, bypassing the filter, and behaviour that has less to do with language and more to do with, for example, being racist, extremely sexual, etc.

I.e.: “kitten this kitten” – ah ok. “kitten you you piece of kitten” – not ok.

ANet: Hi guys, here’s some new content! 200% MF buff for you guys to farm southsun!

Everyone: Cool ANet! Thank you!

ANet: Ahah, no problem. You’ll need it…

Everyone: Eheh yea-…wait what?

ANet: Oh nothing… Just… Ya know… Wemighthaveaddedsomenewskinsthatyouneedtofarmimmensilyfor… nothing really…

Everyone: Sorry, what was that?

ANet: Oh…you know… Some new skins… you gotta farm a bit for…

Everyone: Er… Is it RNG again? We didn’t really like that the first couple times around…

ANet: Well… kinda… but not really… sort of… You can use gems!

Everyone: Like, we can buy the skins…?

ANet: Uh… No… not… Exactly… You can buy the crates!

Everyone: And the crates have the skins…?

ANet: Sort of.

Everyone: uh?

ANet: They have a chance of having the skin.

Everyone: Good chance at least…?

ANet: Yeah… Yeah… Kinda… Sort of… Not really.

Everyone: …sigh… Fine… There’s a good spot, I guess we can farm that one…

ANet: Oh yeah, sorry, we gotta nerf that!

All of my wut…. Seriously, what the kitten? On top of the already atrocious diminuishing returns system, you force us to farm, then deny us farm… Make up your minds.

Interesting. Let’s see the results.

Ranger – Human – 80
Thief – Human – 80
Necromancer – Human – 80
Warrior – Norn – 80
Mesmer – Human – 80
Guardian – Asura – 80
Elementalist – Sylvary – 63

Also an Engineer, Charr, but he’s only 13.

I wonder if A-Net actually realises this...

Guardians and rangers are kings of PvE, bar none. You never explained anything so i won`t either.
btw if you wanna be taken seriously you need to stop the ridiculous exagerations, because farm cof1 is not king, or maybe it is to you lol.

Do I really have to do this? It’s like someone saying “water is wet” then someone in the back getting up and shouting “I’m sorry sir but I doesn’ believe that, you gonna haf ta explain!”. Fine.

Warriors have the absolute highest DPS in PvE, bar none. Unfortunately, due to the way PvE is currently designed, that’s the absolutely most important thing in a class. There is no such a thing as “tanking” in this game, because everything that can be tanked, doesn’t need to be, and everything you’d want to tank can’t, because it just one-shots you anyways, or at least hits you hard enough that you can’t take a second hit. So the only way to tank is to dodge. Not even blocking is 100% since some attacks are unblockable. Because of that, and since nobody has infinite rolls, most of the dangerous attacks are punctual and telegraphed. Warrior can easily deal with that.

This means that they also come with just enough survivability for PvE, with the extra dodging from GS’s WW and the punctual AoE condition clear.

This is true from CoF speed runs, where it’s all stupid easy, but Warrior has the highest DPS anyways, to level 40 fractals where everything one shots you, but Warrior still has the highest DPS.

The other 2 classes that shine in PvE are classes with perma-vigor, high damage if fully-berserker/speced for it, but with extra utility – Mesmer and Guardian. Even then, the “perfect party” will only have 1 of each at most, and 3 warriors, because end game PvE was rushed and poorly designed, and DPS is king.

It is irrelevant. Your best skills are non-racial.

PvE/Dungeons: Average, they are good in old content (CoF Path 1.) and horrible at new content (Karka.)

You should see the video of a warrior trying to solo a Karka, wheras every other class can solo them, warriors cannot without luck+lots and lots of skill, one mistake = instant death.

Daecollo if you ever wanna be taken seriously you need to stop the ridiculous exagerations. Warriors are kings of PvE, bar none. If you’re not facerolling PvE content , including karkas, you’re doing something horribly wrong. Warrior’s issue is PvP, not PvE.
