Not harder, just worse.

Taking camps is easier without having to deal with the constant blind spam, towers are easier since you only have to deal with 1 npc rather than a small lords room full of them, but everything takes so much longer and the small scale fights that made things fun have dried up.

With the increased size of the map and the lack of WP’s on the side keeps people didn’t even bother trying to stop me from taking anything in the south. They just waited until I moved on to flip it back.

I agree with everything you said but you missed some big ones.

-Most fights occur around objectives but the new gimicky PvE mechanics discourage fighting. You don’t want to fight in an area where the enemy is getting free stealth or you’re constantly burning.

-Auto upgrades that don’t require supply remove the reason that most roaming fights occurred. The keeps are full supply and will eventually upgrade so the defenders just sit on the wall and wait for you to get bored.

-The lack of WP’s at T3 gives no incentive to hold anything. The WP’s you get are instantly given to you when you flip a structure so what is the point in defending when you can just flip something back.

-The new map rewards blobbing and helps the dominant server steamroll.
The skyhammer event is going to be one by whoever has the most bodies, which will usually be the dominant server. Auto upgrades reward whoever has the best coverage and make it take that much longer for the weaker server to get their stuff back. The barricades only hurt roamers and small groups, zergs PvD through them in seconds. The increased run distance, lack of +5, and change to the supply cost of G catas (not to mention auto fortifications) makes taking things solo or with a small group a ridiculously tedious task.

Guard Stacks

They gave advantages that weren’t needed. There were even some disparity between players who had the trait.

For example, offensive players had an advantage, because they had near endless supply of guard stacks when they were attacking keep because guards are constantly popping and dieing, while defenders had no way to regain their stacks after they lost them.

They also gave huge amount of stats, 100 power and 250 vitality. Thats A LOT.

It’s a good thing they removed them. And if you can’t live without that extra 250 vitality, you need to recheck your build.

Edit: Oh and at least I didn’t personally like the game of getting stacks back after every death. Boring stuff to run to nearest enemy camp.

Defending players already have the advantage of doors to run in and out of, walls to bomb you from, guards to hide in, defensive siege, etc.

Seems to me this was anets way of dragging players out of WvW to do PvE and crafting to attain better stats.
If they really wanted to keep it fair they would have downscaled all gear to exotic stats while in WvW.

I’m not playing the PvE content, The reason I’m not on the new map is because it is so awful I’ve lost interest in the game. I went from playing 5ish hours a night to logging in just to grab the daily reward.

I’ll likely get on to PvP from time to time, but roaming the bl’s is what kept me playing the game. If they leave this ridiculous dungeon map in place of the bl’s I’ll likely end up quitting all together.

You can buy the new Asc. salvage kits from BUY-4373 in Fractals.

Apparently you can also buy them from the laurel vendors.

I checked the laurel vendor in the bl and he didn’t have it.

They kittening broke roaming.
G catas are pointless.
can’t get +5 ( or I guess you can but you have to leave wvw to craft?)
The removal of wp’s makes the fights non existent.
The removal of guard stacks hits small groups much harder than big groups.
Can’t upgrade to drain supply in front of enemies.
Auto upgrades means everything is fortified unless you are k training.
Stupid PvE dino “event” discourages fighting because you lose your weapon skills if you pick up a gear.

That’s even more of a reason they should be included. After 3+ years of failing to fix pet problems they decide to create new pets with skills that work around the broken mechanics instead of overhauling the old pets.

I’m in the same boat, volpenvieh, and I was thinking the same thing when I read the patch notes. Not a fan of this change, as it’s just another thing that makes my playstyle less effective. First they take away our +5 and now we need even more supplies for guild catas? I thought the new map was supposed to discourage zerging?

Did they really take away +5? I was only able to log on for a few minutes this morning, I thought I just couldn’t find it.

As others have said the Alpine is gone for now. I was no big fan of that map but the new one is horrible. If I wanted long runs, PvE and gimmicks I would play PvE. Anet after all these years still doesn’t get WvW. Players want to fight… leave the PvE/Ktrain crap on EotM.

Someone rubbed me wrong the other day so I followed them and used pbs anytime it was off cd. I was tempted to put on the bear but decided wolf fearing and devourer kb would be more hilarious.

Next project, making a true kb master. Mesmer illusionary wave/temporal curtain? Warrior hammer? Guardian shield? Revenant displaced field? The unlimited options!

We’ve told you exactly how it works. The reveal needs to be applied while you still have a target (before he stealths). The pets damage and speed buff works as long as you don’t issue another command (which includes f2).

I wouldn’t mind if they changed it so you could use sic ‘em in conjunction with the pets f2 for a nice damage spike, or if they changed the way the skill worked so it provided an aoe reveal that forced people out of stealth. But this is just wishful thinking, the skill consistently works in the ways I described above. If something isn’t working for you, odds are you made a mistake.

Oddly, my ranger seems to have no pets available to him in sPvP (literally, cannot select or call out any pet at all). Not sure how that happened.

It’s a bug that anet is in no hurry to fix since it doesn’t benefit rangers. Try spectating a hot join match with a ranger in it and then open your pet menu. This workaround fixes it for some people.

Jack of all trades, master of none. Agood ranger can adapt to fill pretty much any role on the fly but there is always a profession that can do the job better. This is why they do well solo queuing but are rarely seen in competitive teams.

I don’t know of any Ranger build that would fit this description…

- PewPew has very low sustain and can’t hold a node against most 1v1-oriented builds. Also, it gets hard-countered incredibly easy by the vast amount of projectile reflects/absorb currently in the game (it will get even worse with HoT).

- Trap-Rangers have low mobility, at best mediocre sustain, few stunbreakers and get countered by decent condition-removal and absolutely shredded by most necro-builds.

PewPew is decent at a low skill-level cuz ppl don’t focus him properly and run bad compositions that can’t deal with ranged stuff shooting from far away up on some cliff or sth.
Also, most ppl don’t know how to properly LoS.

I absolutely hate having pewpew’s on the team, it’s just a bad build at a decent skill-level when you don’t run a very specific comp.

Longbow GS actually does really well on point when used by a decent player. You’ve got fear, multiple knockdowns, block, 2 knockbacks, taunt, immobilize, immunity to direct damage, multiple stun breaks, good condi removal, evades, and a pretty low cooldown burst heal with regen or a decent heal over time with additional condi removal.

If you manage your cooldowns well you can easily decap and hold a point.

Ranger Trapper - Point Control

It’ll be better tomorrow once you can use trapper runes to help you rotate quicker. I’d probably drop poison trap for lighting reflexes, HS for TU, and switch EB to wilderness knowledge.

You could also bump up your damage by swapping NM to BM. If you run an eagle instead of the drake you can spam blinds and weakness, and use the taunt to help lock them down in the traps.

It won’t be prefect but it will be a lot more versatile than it is right now.

I don’t really pve so the qq I usually get is when I kill someone in WvW or pvp. If they talk trash I usually just laugh at them and then start telling their team things like how good they all are except for the trash talker, and the only reason they are losing is because of him.
I also keep a stack of salt and humiliation dyes to send to people.

My best experience was when I got grouped up with 2 guys in the same guild that had no clue how to rotate and couldn’t win a fight to save their lives but of course they started ranger blaming and I laughed at them and sent them their salt. Then in the very next match we were put on opposite teams and I spent the whole time crushing them in 1v2 fights and messing with them in map chat.

And, while I’m not someone that knows a lot about invulnerablity, the only classes that have access to true invulnerability have it for three-four seconds at most.

and those skills have long cooldowns to balance them out.

They are finally dealing with vamp runes so that is one less passive to worry about, but yeah they should add indicators for passives that grant stability of immunity. I could take it or leave it on the traits that let the player ignore 1 cc but something like “Last Stand” really needs an indicator.

It doesn’t work is what is am saying. tested it for several months its not doing what it should. maybe i need more practice. … but so far its not working.

1.) Target the visible thief.
2.) Press “Sick ’Em!” to put the ‘Revealed debuff’ for 6seconds on the thief. -> Thief can’t enter stealth for 6 seconds.

(At the same time your pet gets the buff ‘Sick ’Em!’ for 10 seconds, which increases its damage and movement by 40%. The buff is on your current pet, so don’t swap it.)

Also make sure you don’t issue any other pet commands like its f2 or the pet will lose the damage and speed buff.

Huh, guess it’s gone up a little. I just transferred 1 of my accounts a couple weeks ago and it cost me 94 gold, but it looks like it’s closer to a hundred now. Still, that can easily be done in a day of silverwastes. I personally just converted some of the several hundred laurels I had into mats to sell. The last time I moved I converted karma to gold but this time I didn’t feel like breaking my mouse by clicking 5 billion times. Anet really needs to give an option at vendors to let you buy a stack of something at a time (slider or window to type in the amount you want), and a right click option to “open” or “use all” for things in your inventory.

I took a step back and you know what? It would not be much of an expansion if they just handed us all the new features without having to do something with the new content. All I have to say is thank you ArenaNet for working hard to get this expansion out to us all.

New content for me means trying out new builds using the new traitlines and maybe the new weapons in WvW. Grinding out ranks or boring my self to death in PvE is not something I will pay 50 bucks for.

Going to have to agree somewhat. Even if you know his location if he himself isn’t braindead he should be able to survive almost anything.

I frontline glass cannon thief without any defensive traits or abilities in 40v40 and usually come out alive. I have been asked by commanders in server chat/TS how I stay alive and have been frequently used as an engage signal for the rest of the blob to follow after I am first to dive in. I quit solo roaming recently because it become a matter of extremely cheesy and unfun build decisions and frankly, I think D/P and SA are extremely boring, passive, and easy ways to play the thief and the game itself.

If people die playing dire thief to any extent in anything less than 25 people, or mesmer, they are straight bad.

I still kill dire thieves, although it’s easier to do it with a stealth trap, yes, but 4 experienced people should be able to kill them.

Not sure what your zerg experience has to do with it, but I’m doing the same actually – you have to know how the zergs will move and I don’t know how I can tell, experience or instinct, no idea. Guess it’s the same with D/D as well, there’s not much time to think.

You’re fighting really bad dire condi players then tbh, granted most of them are because of the fact they typically use it as a crutch to get free kills. A friend of mine used to run it before I taught him D/D signets. He went from being able to solo pretty much anything under a 7v1 to dying to almost anything. He’s since become quite distinguished in my book and plays a more generic D/D and D/P build these days, but for funsies he went back to dire conditions recently for a day. I watched him solo 15 people down and never drop below half. I tried the same for shiggles and lasted only a few seconds. We swapped, and our success flipped almost identically.

Really, anyone playing dire conditions has no excuse to die unless massively outnumbered by an army of mesmers all coordinating ranged stealth stunlocking and reveal traps.

And the other day I was on my elementalist when I ran into a dire p/d condition thief. I was not set up for damage but for healing support for zergs and was just running about resetting siege.

He had no chance whatsoever of ever defeating me. Nothing he had in his build could ever get past all the healing I had and the diamond skin.

When he did come out of stealth I could attack and wear him down (even as he wore dire) faster then he could wear me down . I was not wearing dire. His dire armor was not saving him. He would stealth and reset when he got near death and recover his health.

We could have fought forever me with no stealth and no dire and he with his stealth and with his dire and not gotten anywhere. That is the nature of builds structured around bunkering and sustain.

You can also get a whole pile of people trying to kill two eles who just team off one another switcihing to water in sequence . They do not need stealth or dire.

So you are saying diamond skin counters dire builds !? No kitten sherlock. Thanks for another completely random and pointless argument.

Trapper runes have LITTLE to do with this. The bulk of stealth comes off d/p . Setting a trap using runes gives at most 4 seconds stealth.

That is NOT permanent. If a thief sets a trap 3 seconds later he is revealed unless he traits SA where he revealed after 4 seconds.

This whether the trap triggered or not.I get longer stealth on my mesmer using decoy as my zerker lays on far more damage then a trap ever will.

This issue has little to nothing to do with trappers runes. It is using trap in conjunction with d/p and using HS in a smoke field.

In short this another anti-stealth argument. Use reveal skills.

We aren’t all engi’s with Lock On.
I main a ranger, I need to be able to see the person to put reveal on them and these thieves can remain in stealth the entire fight. Every other profession doesn’t have a reveal skill.

This might be the most ridiculous argument I have seen on the forums… How the hell is anyone defending this?

One more time to show how little you know. Trappers runes have little to do with this. No one can stay in stealth because of trappers runes. They give 3 (4 if traited in SA) seconds of stealth on setting a trap. After that three seconds whether the trap triggered or not the person is revealed.

The lowest cooldown one can get on a trap is 24 seconds on needle/tripwire. Setting these consecutively will give 8 seconds stealth if traited SA. This is not permastealth.

One more time it is d/p used that gives the longer stealth in these builds, that being a leap in a smoke field.

You are absolutely not responding to what you quoted. You are ranting that I claimed thieves were maintaining perma stealth by only using traps and nothing else. I have never said that. Either you quoted the wrong person or you are very confused as to what is being discussed. By any chance do you happen to be drunk right now?

Excuse me. I made a post and YOU responded to it. I pointed out in that post that trappers runes had little to do with Ghost Thief and it not an issue with the Runes. This post was in response to the OP who posted

I responded to your suggestion that everyone should just “use a reveal skill”. I never said anything about thieves maintaining perma stealth through utility skills alone. If you want to have a discussion you need to ignore the voices in your head and respond to what the other person is actually saying.

Trapper runes have LITTLE to do with this. The bulk of stealth comes off d/p . Setting a trap using runes gives at most 4 seconds stealth.

That is NOT permanent. If a thief sets a trap 3 seconds later he is revealed unless he traits SA where he revealed after 4 seconds.

This whether the trap triggered or not.I get longer stealth on my mesmer using decoy as my zerker lays on far more damage then a trap ever will.

This issue has little to nothing to do with trappers runes. It is using trap in conjunction with d/p and using HS in a smoke field.

In short this another anti-stealth argument. Use reveal skills.

We aren’t all engi’s with Lock On.
I main a ranger, I need to be able to see the person to put reveal on them and these thieves can remain in stealth the entire fight. Every other profession doesn’t have a reveal skill.

This might be the most ridiculous argument I have seen on the forums… How the hell is anyone defending this?

One more time to show how little you know. Trappers runes have little to do with this. No one can stay in stealth because of trappers runes. They give 3 (4 if traited in SA) seconds of stealth on setting a trap. After that three seconds whether the trap triggered or not the person is revealed.

The lowest cooldown one can get on a trap is 24 seconds on needle/tripwire. Setting these consecutively will give 8 seconds stealth if traited SA. This is not permastealth.

One more time it is d/p used that gives the longer stealth in these builds, that being a leap in a smoke field.

Wtf are you talking about? What does that have to do with what you quoted? Where did I say thieves weren’t using weapon skills to help keep up stealth? Are you that lost that you are making up random things to argue against?

If you are simply going to drop half of a post and respon in kind without going back to the orginal post than you are responding OUT OF context which is disingenous. You are absolutely not responding to what you quoted. You are ranting that I claimed thieves were maintaining perma stealth by only using traps and nothing else. I have never said that. Either you quoted the wrong person or you are very confused as to what is being discussed. By any chance do you happen to be drunk right now?

Its open world pvp. It is not nor should be spvp. You are expected to put time into your character for excellent gear and build.

Gear and build yes, profession mechanic no. Necro’s aren’t expected to run to 25 different maps to unlock death shroud skills. This would be a nice QoL improvement for WvW rangers, especially for the players with multiple rangers.

Oh well, if WoW does it then nevermind….
And really… everything handed to me? Rangers having full access to their profession mechanic in a PvP gamemode without jumping through a bunch of unnecessary hoops is me wanting everything handed to me? Okay then.

It’s a pvp gamemode that you bring your pve character to.

I’ve got multiple character, including several rangers that fully leveled to 80 in WvW with the exception of the tutorial, and in the rangers case the time spent playing a running simulator to gather pets.

Awe man, and they gonna make you spend 15min to gather the new ones? Rediculous!

I cannot believe you are this easily trolled. There is a 99% chance the new pets are going into wvw so core players can pick them up.

99%? You have a lot more faith in them than I do. I’d say 20% tops.

Counterattack needs its kick separated from the block and made optional after any successful block.

no it doesnt. this is very newbie unfriendly, especially for an attack that already has a secondary click.

What? How? If they don’t trigger the kick they will just block attacks. That is arguably a lot easier for new players to handle.
