Well i struggle to find any, there is no dueling system to fight other players with your PvE gear, once Ascended gear fully comes out (Armor ect) Anet stated that they won’t be bringing out better armor.

Go and kill people in World vs World! I have spent 1000 hours in PvE, finally got my desired look and gear, and now I am fighting and killing (and getting killed) in WvW. It’s great!

Plus, I am confident that duelling will eventually be added—the upcoming content update seems to be a step in that direction!

I don’t think it should work on already stealthed players. However, if one is first entangled and then uses stealth I think it should still hold them. That’s just plain logic.

I would argue that if the animation was just a little different, where you see roots pop out all around the ranger for the radius of the attack and try and grab onto something then disappear, anyone stealthed would be affected as well.

I would agree 100% if the roots were appearing randomly and trying to ‘latch’ onto whatever, but as it is—and I may be mistaken—the roots seem specifically target people like they had ‘eyes’ so to speak, so…

I think most people—if they tried—could empathise with Esplen’s sentiments.

I know it’s infuriating being ‘disturbed’ by enemy players when trying to accomplish a non-wvw/pvp related goal. The natural response is often to want to remove the problem entirely as Esplen is suggesting.

I don’t believe its the best solution. In fact, one could argue that the achievement is knowingly in such an infuriating location—requires cooperation with others to succeed.

In short; removing pvp is excessive, and removing the requirement for a wider achievement may defeat the purpose of the requirement. Find another way.

You’re delusional. I’ve been tested as above average intelligence, have a natural “gift” for science and mathematics, and a college education. Know what I do for a living? Wait tables at a Mexican restaurant. The real world doesn’t reward skill; it rewards prestige.

Oh it used to reward skill, back when men like Steve Jobs were starting out, but these days that isn’t true. These days it is all about how many big names you can toss at people. Who you know, and where you’ve been. Yeah I went to college, but I didn’t go to the right college for my education to be taken seriously. Yeah I’m pretty smart, but I don’t have the right people telling potential employers that. Things like skill and knowledge are irrelevant in the real world; just look at how we celebrate the most useless and brainless human beings and shower them with wealth.

Skilled….yeah right. What kind of “skill” does Paris Hilton have? Nothing unless you count “rich daddy.”

I’m sorry Erasculio, but what I am about to point out here may inadvertently upset you, but I intend no malice;

You will never get to meet “the right people”, nor will you go beyond waiting tables at a restaurant while you hold on to that “poor me” attitude.

This is because “the right people” will recognise that attitude immediately and overlook all of your science and mathematics skills and choose someone else perhaps less ‘intelligent’ but with a superior attitude.

Do not be disillusioned by your own supposed intelligence; it’s all useless if you don’t have what’s more important; a strength of will and good character.

You can begin honing that “good character” immediately by ceasing to envy and complain about people like Paris Hilton.

And for any waiters and waitresses out there; it’s a great job, a noble job—it is what you make it. People respect good waiters and waitresses. And what would we do without them?

Your real life metaphor fails, in that GW2, unlike the real world, doesn’t reward skill, rather time spent.

Erasculio, I disagree; it doesn’t fail. And GW2 does reward skill—it just depends on which skills. In fact, your own following statements support this.

“Oh, real life rewards time spent more than skill” – nope.
[snip]
In real life, “time spent” is being a Chinese factory worker, working 18 hours per day 6 days per week making repetitive and mindless motions that a bot could do – it’s almost exactly the description of grind, for the records. Meanwhile, “skill” is being someone like Steve Jobs.
[snip]

Exactly. The middle-to-low class workers, while still skilled in something, grind for pittance, while the other Rich people, also skilled (e.g. TP flippers: see real world investors, hard core dungeon runners: see people dedicated to achieving etc.

Now, who had a higher salary? A Chinese factory worker, or Steve Jobs? Guess who worked more hours per week? And guess who was more skilled?

Both parties are skilled. not necessarily more skilled, but they are different skills.

In GW2, the Chinese factory worker would get better rewards. That’s how all MMORPGs are, for the records.

You could liken The Chinese factory workers to be the hardcore dungeon speed runners and farmers, or you could liken them to the average gamer casually dipping into a bit of everything over and over—their wealth varying accordingly, but they will never be as rich as the TP flippers (Steve Jobs).

I’m going to tell it like it is;

One’s perspective on gold acquisition is directly tied to the price of items in the game, and how far one is from having that much gold (one’s personal rate of income)—and that’s exactly how it is in the real world—no brainer, but just think about this for a moment; There are lots of different people out there doing different things.

The Rich
‘Pro’ Trade Post flippers
Hardcore dungeon speed runners
Real-world wealthy gem buyers
One-time (or more) lucky RNG winners of high-priced items

The Middle-to-low income class
Everyone else

If you’re not in The Rich category of gamer, you will always “have to work quite a lot for [your] gold”. There is no way around this, not here in GW2 nor in the real world.

And finally, and this is an important concept—even if there was some ‘magical’ way for you to get more gold (as a “middle-to-low income class” gamer) the same would apply to everyone else as well, and prices for everything would naturally increase accordingly, and so you and everyone else would be in no different a situation.

So you need to decide where you want to be. If that ain’t in The Rich category, you’ll just need to be satisfied with your lot.

This would stop the free teleport abuse, and not inconvenience ‘genuine’ Mysts players.

Make it six minutes then. There will be a point where the ‘exploiters’ will not be willing to wait out that timer.

Legal / ethical issues for Swimwear?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Pure Heart.1456

Well then it just blows my mind that Anet releases beach/holiday themed content and then does not provide any swim wear in the gem shop.

And what about beach balls, umbrellas, beach BBQs, body boards to paddle on?

1) There’s one guy/girl creating content and so there isn’t enough time.
And/Or
2) There’s something wrong with the decision making process.

I think what you want to play is Sims .-.

The developers created a “Style” section on the gem store for a reason. Admittedly, a lot of it is garbage imho, but if it’s there, why not fill it with some no-brainer interesting stuff? I just don’t understand the decisions being made there. Hence, I thought there might be some legal issues involved.

How is it possible for people to post items on the TP for prices in excess of 200G?

Rare dyes for example, are at that price and legendary weapons sit around the 1000G+ mark. After 1000 hours of play, I am just approaching the 200G mark myself, I can not comprehend how it is possible.

why level 80

in Players Helping Players

Posted by: Pure Heart.1456

Pure Heart.1456

Downleveling scales your stats (in accordance with the strength of your gear) to what it would be at X level.

In a level 20 zone, a level 20 player with level 20 blue gear is stronger than a level 60 player with level 40 blue gear. This is because the level 20 player has gear for his level, although it isn’t the best gear (green), it’s still pretty good. The level 60 player has blue gear which is 2 tiers under the best (yellow) and the gear is 2/3 of his level, thus not giving him full benefit.

When getting downleveled, it dynamically changes your stats by applying a % chance. It figures out the percentage by comparing the Best in Slot of both levels and trying to balance it out. Of course, you’re still going to get some excess stats when getting downleveled, but it’s still a pretty good system.

If you were to progress past level 80, but weren’t able to get higher gear, you’d weaken over time (a level 180 player with level 80 gear would be ridiculously weak, relying only on base stats instead of stats from gear to actually kill mobs).

[snip]

Well, I didn’t know it worked that way—however, I don’t believe it would be difficult to add some logical math/condition to prevent this phenomenon.

8 months and zero optimization

Pure Heart.1456

For all the FPS hungry people out there, I would suggest going out and mowing a few lawns on weekends, save up your money and buy a decent graphics card—Nvidia GTX580 or higher.

That’s not the issue. Did you even read the thread ?

How is this not at least part of the issue?

Better hardware will solve performance issues—it’s that simple.
I realise that some people simply can not afford better hardware.

However, while it’s good practice to write optimized code/software, it is increasingly becoming less important, as powerful hardware is becoming available to a larger proportion of people.

In the optimization process, cost effectiveness and prospective profit plays a large part as well; How much profit can developers hope to receive via purchases in the gem store from people who are not even able to afford the average level of hardware necessary to run the game at reasonable settings?

Notwithstanding, developers do have an obligation to provide software that works at a satisfactory level, particularly on higher end hardware.

Are Ranges really in THAT BAD a place?

in Ranger

Posted by: Pure Heart.1456

Pure Heart.1456

I have spent over 800 hours with my Ranger main—I love it. Having said that;

1) It will take practice to learn how to control and swap out your pets effectively, and its important that you can do that—they’re a good part of the Ranger’s overall effectiveness.

2) I have had great success with the Short Bow/Long Bow combination and also the Shortbow/Greatsword combination. Despite what some people say about Rangers having low DPS; with the right traits, skills, use of conditions, and upgrades on your weapons you can put out some really nice damage, but more so over time (conditions)

3) The merit of Pet ‘rezz’; I can not count how many times I have called my pet to come and rez me when downed, and have consequently escaped death. Really useful! Having said that, there are times when you’re just sick of the kitten pet or it gets in the way by say inadvertently pulling mobs.

4) What you can take away from all this is that, Rangers are not the easiest class to play. They aren’t simply ‘this’ or ‘that’ like you might say a warrior is a tank. They’re a bit of a “Jack of all Trades” which is sometimes great but sometimes not what some of the more ‘hardcore’ players want in their group or dungeon run.

Do any content you like within your level range. Look for Events (yellow circles on the map), and continue to look for hearts that you already know about. Also, crafting. Grab a crafting booster if you can, and hit the crafting stations! why level 80

But Pure Heart, that would make attaining skill points ridiculously hard after level 80.

Also, it would end up making you get weaker as you played longer as you would require gear at your appropriate level to maintain your strength as you will get downleveled, but your gear will stay at level 80.

Esplen,
I take your point on the Skill Points.
As for ‘getting weaker’ & ‘maintaining strength’, not so; The game environment would remain unchanged even as you progressed over L80 (enemies are not getting stronger). Down-leveling should operate as it does now—my understanding may be wrong—but it wouldn’t matter what level over 80 you were, you get leveled to a few levels above the zone you’re playing in. Also we’ll assuming down-leveling would cease after L80. No problem here. No?
