This is exactly what I dislike about the forge—Random, no skill—AND after all the untold riches Zomorras gets from the forge, his lady “friends” still have the hide to ask for donations to help the city of Lion’s Arch rebuild!!! What a travesty!!!! It’s disgusting! I feel sick to my stomach.

Anyone see that youtube video of some dude putting 1500 rare greatswords into the forge? O.M.G. Nearly slit my wrists just watching.

Magic Find, how high do you go?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Pure Heart.1456

Every piece of my PvE armour has at least some kind of magic find on it.
I’m over 150% atm with food for +30% and I’m currently aiming to get a laurel ascended piece, and then slot that with the ascended 20% magic find utility piece.

I notice a distinct difference in the quality of drops. Few whites, but many many blues and greens—and a decent amount of rares. After finishing a farming spree in PvE coming out of a dungeon, I compare loot with my friend and I come out with more gold every time.

The longer you play with magic find, obviously the more return you’ll get. Think about it, 200% MF means that (over time) you should average TWICE the amount of non-white drops than you would have received without MF.

What provoked this was the harsh realization that open world content seems to just deteriorate into people hitting a pinata for rewards and running away like selfish little animals.

That was beautiful. Hit the nail right on the head! Cracked me up also. Just great, and so true.

The only way to solve this one, is to implement a need for communication and co-operation, so that afterwards people feel like sticking around to at least say “thanks” and appreciate the moment of glorious victory—It is not possible to appreciate such a glorious moment, if it doesn’t exist.

A glimpse of these glorious moments can sometimes be experienced at the end of a dungeon or fractal. Anet needs to put a bit of that into the PvE event system.

OP’s post is exactly the kind of frustration Anet’s design decisions are inciting in players.

Most players don’t post, and it is said that for every one person who has an opinion (regardless of whether they post it or not) there are TEN others who think/feel the same.

I think Anet should take note.

Do any of you ever buy black lion keys?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Pure Heart.1456

Pure Heart.1456

In the beginning, a lot of keys dropped in many different places as rewards—I used these at that time.

Since then, I have bought a single key “just to see”… And everyone in here is right—there is just simply no point. The rewards are worthless—and that’s when you get something you might actually use! e.g. Revive orb.

Time to fix this, Anet.

Why Hate on RNG?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Pure Heart.1456

Pure Heart.1456

SUGGESTED SOLUTION:

Keep or improve/adjust the current RNG, but in addition, add logic to the code resembling something like this;

When player has exceeded X time and has received 0 ~ 1 rares/exotics, drop them a rare or exotic on next monster kill.

This should alleviate some of the frustration where players feel they are not getting good drops despite great effort.

So basically encourage people away from RMT (no revenue), into grinding (which the game wasn’t supposed to be about, and doesn’t have to be about now), encourage botting and mindless farm zergs, and support the assumption that if you do something wrong enough times over the game will reward you for your persistent poor play?

Just throw a three year old in front of the keyboard and drop them off to zerg farm, get them used to success via mediocrity early so we can have the gamers of the future ready to grind.

No. That’s not right.
Because said “exceeded X time” should be something on the order of X hours or days.

To provide a more firm example;
I’ve played for over 800 hours since launch—with the exception of the exotics that were “hard-code” awarded for map completions, I have only received —3-- (three!) exotic items. It sucks so bad.

So, if there was code that went something like, “OK, he’s played for 30 hours, let’s drop him an exotic”, or “he’s played 2000 hours so drop a precursor”, that would make me feel a hell of a lot better.

In short, bots and farmers wouldn’t benefit.

This;

I prefer names that fit the lore and game, since I like to feel immersed. It’s impossible these days, of course, since the maturity level of players couldn’t get any lower.

So, sorry, I don’t find many of these to be “best” by a long shot.

Some are marginally amusing but the thing is, they reflect the fact that the people that the people who create them don’t care about the game, or the genre, or the effect they have on other players.

I hate random because it is the equivalent of removing all SKILL that might otherwise be necessary for a player to advance. i.e. “Wow, you got X because you were so good! Oh, wait… no, you were just lucky. Lame”.

Boxers in the ring, they don’t win because they are lucky, they win because they have skills.

@OP Life is not based on RNG. And when it appears to be, it is only because we can not see the whole picture which is one of cause and effect whereby nothing is random.

The lead designer’s name is Isaiah Cartwright.

I would assume that he brainstormed, designed and/or signed off on the game’s random number generation components.

My own GW2 experience, and what I read on the forums (about these kinds of issues) leaves me feeling very very angry.

I think its high-time the person responsible for bringing about these feelings in the game’s customer base offered an explanation for (what I believe) to be an idiotic reward system.

Why story mode is garbage

in Personal Story

Posted by: Pure Heart.1456

Pure Heart.1456

The Guild Wars 2 project was/is simply too large to pull off each module with 100% quality production values.

You’ve got four major modules; Personal Story, PvE, WvW and PvP and all the content that goes with each—there’s no way all of them could have been released at 100% without going into some major red ink.

You can’t cater perfectly to all of the varying types of customers, and when you have to compromise which do you go cheap on? Obviously Personal Story because the game is first and foremost billed as an MMORPG.

“Personal stories” without any “intervention of another” would be the most boring story (if you could even call it that) ever conceived.

However, whilst I see OP’s point, I think the OP’s demand is unreasonable, given that the other 99% of the personal story is doable entirely alone.

All Katana (note no plural ‘s’) are intended in general, to be held at the ready with two hands. Some cuts use both hands, while others depending on the previous cut and direction of motion, momentarily shift from a two handed grip to a one handed one.

Two-handed sword styles, generally make use of a Wakizashi (short sword) and a Katana (long sword). And then you’re talking about a different kettle of sushi.

Watch some Samurai flicks, or even Conan the Barbarian—better yet, study some swordplay yourself!

Katana for assassin?

Katana is just a type of sword skin.. it’s not a new weapon.

Katanas are light 2h swords, while great swords are massive. It is like a sword to a dagger.

Not all katanas are two handed.

Suggestions
1)The parry and riposte skill available with the greatsword (skill #4) has an amazing animation and gameplay mechanic. Imagine bosses using a similar skill/exciting animation against the player.

2) A boss could get its weapon stuck in the ground or building wall/pillar, at which point players would need to run up the blade/arm and strike at the head before the boss frees his weapon.

3) Three of the five players would need to use a chain/net weapon to ensnare the boss and hold the chains, while the other two attack. The boss would occasionally break free and rampage knocking everyone down etc. until he can be ensnared again.

Complaints
A big theme which you’ve probably noticed is “Time/Effort vs Reward”—right now, the dungeon fights bore, not only from the sheer lack of imagination in those fight mechanics, but also the length of the fights. Then to top it off, the rewards for enduring it are inexplicably disheartening.

Bottom line; Create exciting, interactive battles and the community might forgive heartbreakingly lackluster rewards. But dishing up both boring content and rubbish rewards is unforgivable.

I’m saying its lame how we’re so limited in base face shapes and sliders.

But we’re not really limited? The Sylvari get a ton of faces and the sliders are plenty to create some really unique looks. Not getting a few faces for NPCs is not limiting us much.

Take a look at some other MMOs, or even single player games. (Age of Conan or Aion for example). Then you will notice how limited Guild Wars 2 is in this respect.

In every one of these kinds of posts the spirit is this, and I think game-devs need to get it;

Design challenging content that adapts to the number (power) of players attempting that challenge.

Why?

Because then, lone players AND parties can come away from that challenge truly saying, “I am awesome!

What players have now is the feeling, “I’m too lame and weak, I can’t even kill a group of mischievous bandits.” and/or “this content has been made impossible, its contrived, bad design.”
