Unarmed! (Two handed) hands for spell casting!
(think Star Wars, the force.. with movements and skills that resemble pulling, crushing, tearing apart, pushing, lifting!)
-1 for armour
I’m so disappointed.
Coming from Japan you will want a UK server. As to get to a US server you have to continent hop quite a bit. You will expect 250-300Ms of Ping time at a min going from Japan to US based servers. While you can get in 80-130MS going back to the UK.
I am currently on a UK server (connecting from Japan) and I am getting around 350 to 600ms ping, depending on the day.
I would have expected that connecting to a U.S. server from Japan would have been better due to physical proximity and a ‘direct’ under sea line…
The ping I mentioned above on a UK server has caused me to investigate. Does anyone have any correct and reliable information?
I also found this link, a map of the under sea cables… Japan has direct link to the U.S. but none to the UK.

Just wondering if there are any groups that organise 1 v 1 (or group) fights in WvW. You know, away from the regular zerg trains and point flipping.
I’m always out there hunting for fights, and I do get them, but was wondering if there was any more reliable method.
This is WvW, and WvW should be about WvW only. The whole WvW game mode was intended for using sieges in defence and attack, it is an unique game mode for a MMO.
Please give the respect to the WvW team and let them work with only WvW because that is their passion.
Frankly speaking, the siege mechanics, function and utility, graphics and fun factor for the siege equipment is seriously lackluster—especially given that you claim it to be the focal point of WvW.
I do not think that anyone could argue that firing any of the siege equipment for 5 minutes, is more enjoyable than engaging in a direct player-to-player fight (single or group) for the same amount of time.
There’s some nice ideas in here, it blows my mind why more ideas like this haven’t made it into the actual game.
Recently I had the single most, unforgettably enjoyable 2 v 1 battle, that lasted for at least 6 minutes, over land and sea;
It began with 2 against me on the shores. I retreated into the water knowing I would likely have an advantage with my powerful aquatic pets and exotic aquatic weapons—most don’t carry them.
I soon downed one of the two enemies, but the remaining warrior proved tougher. After minutes exchanging blows under water, we came up onto the Krait island, but I had no intention of fighting amidst an army of Krait where my Ranger armour would not hold up as long as my enemy’s warrior armour. So I fired my knockback arrow sending the warrior back into a group of Krait before I dove once again into lake and headed for dry land on the mainland.
My heart was filled with joy and battlesong, as I turned to see the warrior pursuing me to the mainland. I stood, bow drawn awaiting his arrival on the far shore. He swam up onto the shore his great sword swinging, I dodged, firing my arrows and a battle ensued for a minute longer before… a lone friendly commander jogged past and finished him off as I stood disappointed… feeling as though I had somehow betrayed my enemy. The commander ran off, without a word, without a pause.
I knelt at my enemy’s body by the shore in silent respect. It was an honour.
May we meet in battle again someday.
I can confirm this works, but other lighting effects that I want are disabled as an unfortunate side effect.
Dear all,
This my original question remains unanswered;
How do I find the latency between my PC and a game server?
(One in the U.S.)
(edited by Pure Heart.1456)
Thanks Chris, but this does not answer my question.
if you don’t tell us your location how can we answer you ?
currently the servers have two locations . first is in USA and second is in Europe
Actually, I stated my location in the first line of the OP. (@@_@@) Japan!
Experienced player, playing since launch; PvE, WvW, log on regularly.
Any takers?
How do you find the server that is the game server?
Simple!
Keep an eye on your character’s level. Remain in zones—any zones— within your character’s level, (+/- 1), killing mobs and completing events. Alternatively, or at the same time, spend some time crafting to boost your levels as much as you need before entering new zones at higher levels.
If you don’t like killing mobs, exploring & completing events or crafting, you’re pooched. After all, that’s what this game is all about.
Anet needs to give players a choice. Instead of always dictating how things are.
I can’t stress how important this is, in every aspect of the game.
For example, instead of simply not showing all player names, give players the choice to toggle whether their own name displays to enemies or not.
Thanks Chris, but this does not answer my question.
I so tired of people saying that the Overflow servers support the LS after 10 minutes.
The fact and practical reality is, that that is simply not the kitten case!!
I can’t count how many times I’ve been put into a deactivated overflow, and it is extremely frustrating and disappointing. Anet, take note!
Dynamic Events are/were a great new concept, some of them needed more love and overall there needed to be more of them. They needed to be more meaningful, their consequences, rewards more impressive.
Living Story is a great idea. The current pace of release is questionable, but the feature additions and bug fixes that happen along with it are all welcome. However, “Living Story” is essentially what should happen with almost every game created—and it is even expected by the players. Therefore, it will never spiritually replace the tried and true, Expansion.
(edited by Pure Heart.1456)
This is probably not you problem, but, just to be sure, you may wish to uncheck and recheck (or leave it unchecked) the sample quality —- change it from “Supersample” to “Native”.
I’ve had some anomalies where FPS drops dramatically without reason, flipping this options fixed it for me.
I do not have a short attention span, so I can not share (most) of your pain.
However, I like sweeping views of nature and environments—paying attention to the surrounding beauty made visiting all of the areas a great deal more enjoyable.
There is this horrible red selection outline around enemies when I select them.
It is so incredibly ugly and is ruining my experience.
How do I remove this?
I’m in Japan.
I want to know the closest Guild Wars 2 server to my location, and then I want to find the latency between me and that server.
(Ultimately, I want to transfer to that server.)
How do I do this?
Using http://www.yougetsignal.com/tools/visual-tracert/
and tracing route to 206.127.159.107,

Why such a huge route? I can’t make sense of it.

I am in Japan and my traceroute sends me to Texas, even though I’m on an EU server. What’s with that!? I have huge latency at the moment, in excess of 550.
Recently, I get 550 ~ 600+ latency.
Previously, I was at 250 ~ 350. (Japan to Blacktide/EU).
I traced route to Anet server 206.127.159.107 (Texas!)
1) Why doesn’t the IP show up in Europe where Blacktide/EU is?
2) Any ideas what may have happened with the change in latency?
I don’t need to explain how much of a show-stopper this is.
i play the mf, no, not throwing in rares for a chance for a precursor. i’m doing something with a much lower risk and a steady stream of income rather than the jackpot prec.
on a good day, i can have 50% my capital in profits. on a very good day i double my money
Throwing in rare sigils and runes, then selling the superior ones Zomorros sometimes throws back?
If Anet really needs money, while they’re on a free to play model, they should put more effort into designing higher quality items for the gem store. In my view, the gem store lacks variety, and what does exist there is somewhat lacking in quality and therefore, appeal.
People want quality, and they’ll pay for it.
If my friend (or someone I know) gives me a gift or gifts, and not an insult gift to make fun of me, but a gift that they spend time making or buying or acquiring, I will be grateful for them. I don’t care if it’s a pad paper that I don’t ever use, a dozen colored pencil of the same color, or a set of crayon I already have or just a stone-paperweight which will actually end up cluttering my work space. The fact is, someone spend sometime to give me something.
The thought counts, the actual gift makes it better, no matter what that might be.
Yep. I have to admit I’m a bit perplexed about the hostility towards the gift. Anet was certainly under no obligation to give us anything. [snip]
Like you said, it’s the thought that counts. The fact that I got something despite not paying a subscription fee is good enough.
In real life, we receive gifts from our friends—people who we expect to know what we like, after all, they’re our friends! It is disappointing when a friend gets it a bit wrong, but if they get it really wrong, it can be insulting, in which case no gift might have been better.
Some players feel like Anet just got it really wrong.
Yes, it’s too easy—as are all of the dragon battles.
The bigger problem is that the encounters themselves are lackluster—after the inital entry of the dragons, which are quite amazingly cool actually.
I was thinking the opposite—that conditions are underpowered!
As a Ranger, I rely heavily on what meager condition damage I can apply, hoping to somehow survive long enough against tough warriors and guardians for the conditions to wear them down.
If you’re dying before eliminating the condition-applying enemy, it means you weren’t dealing enough damage. Also, check out the food that gives -40% condition duration!
All siege equipment looks ugly, no animation, no colours, no differing textures.
You can’t move them, which is ridiculous especially when some of them even have wheels. They are mind-numbingly slow, clunky and boring to operate.
In short, they need a lot of work.
Love the idea.
Amazonian Norn, here.
Just a question, are there any guilds on Blacktide/EU, or does everyone just run around solo like Blacktide WvW?
On Legendary Weapons and the gear treadmill;
Legendary weapons should be handled like the ascended gear, in that they are superior visually and stats wise, but not so much so that they’re a game model-breaker.
It’s as the OP says, without character progression in at least some areas, longevity is limited.
It’s a gold sink, and it keeps the dye drops relevant for as long as people create new characters, or hunt for a certain dye for their characters new or old.
Having said that, +1 to OP.
Living World is fine.
But please add more stories and related quests throughout the rest of Tyria.
You know, some traditional Dungeons & Dragons RPG-style stories.
You should be able to SELECT from a series of stances, for the purposes of character customization.
Getting back to OP—absolutely hilarious situation to read about, lmfao, yet it is tragic.
And the only clear way out of that, in any reasonable amount of time is to brute force it with some real money; server transfer and total body makeover kit.
In a nutshell, here’s what OP is saying, using a Star Wars analogy;
The original Star Wars (4,5,6) movie characters R2D2, C3PO and the Ewoks provided comic relief without trying too hard or making a big deal of it. Kids and adults alike, loved it for generations!
Then new Star Wars (1,2,3) movie characters such as Jar Jar Binx came on the scene, and they just tried waaaay too hard to be funny and silly, and while popular with some kids for a short while, adults hated it, and those same kids when they grew/grow up will hate it as well.
Anet needs to take a ‘page’ of the Star Wars ‘book’.
I hear you OP.
I would prefer to go on some traditional (quality) RPG quest chains for epic loot, rather than farming the stuff you mentioned. However the sad fact is that there aren’t any quest chains I haven’t done, and even if there were, they certainly wouldn’t be dropping epic loot.
It is not true ‘fun’, farming stuff mindlessly over and over again, but there isn’t a real alternative for players who have truly “Been there, Done That.”
I never even started to challenge Liadri—can I still join the club?
Defeated all the rest, but I’m not going to put myself through all the stress of trying to defeat her cheap tricks.
Besides, I completed each of the main achievement threads via achievements other than Liadri.
These are all valid points, and while some people may have experienced some or all of them to lesser or greater degrees, they’re definitely issues that Anet should address in upcoming content releases. +1
Any guilds on Blacktide/EU needing members?
OP, I understand your feelings, I really do. But you need to let go…
There are so many things out in the real world that you’re missing out on—that you don’t even know about. And even if you knew about them all, you couldn’t possibly go and do all of them 100%, forever anyway! It is inevitable that you’re going to miss out on stuff. It is no different with this silly game for pete’s sake. 10 years from now, you’ll look back and realise how insignificant and ridiculous it all is.
Just let go man. It’s just a game.
near a Kegbrawl…
You’re all going to die, horribly.
Dear All,
Playing since launch, I’m looking for a guild on Blacktide/EU.
Interested in PvE and WvW.
Preferably, members would be active at least some of the time in the UTC+9(Asia/Japan time) but it’s not absolutely necessary.

Not being able to swap to a different freaking weapon from your pack while in combat.
They should add a third weapon swap option.
You should definitely have waited before blowing your gold. Anet have already said they’re going to revamp Legendary weapon acquisition.
They haven’t even been able to deliver a decent amount of armour for players, let alone for mounts. But I hear ya.
Provided mounts keep with the lore, and give at least some kind of speed boost, I’m all for them.
