[Suggestion] Enemy types & condition immunity

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Pure Heart.1456

Pure Heart.1456

That would make condition builds even weaker in pve.
For example a condi thief would be completely useless against an undead enemy.
Out of curiosity why should spiders be immune to blind?

Yes, condi. builds may be less effective against certain foes – but then, this is part of the point in adding variety. In a similar fashion, certain enemies should have high toughness countering non-condi. builds.

In short, if players don’t need to think or prepare before facing different encounters, what then is the point in having the possibility to choose between condi./non-condi., if any build can just stomp through all the content?

As concerns blindness-immunity for spiders, it was just a liberal example, but the reasoning behind it being that as spiders can have up to 12 eyes, some of those eyes may escape the blinding effect…

Certain skills should be ineffective against certain enemy types.
A no brainer really, but that this is currently not the case severely limits the possibilities for adding challenge and variety to the game;

Possible examples
Undead immune to fear, poison, bleeding, torment
Spiders immune to poison, blind
Select Shiverpeaks mobs immune to chill
Dragonbrand immune to confusion
Ghosts immune to bleeding, poison

etc. etc.

[Suggestion] asymmetrical shoulder toggle

For shoulder armour pieces that have non-matching left and right sides,
add the option to toggle which side switches to match the other.

Because;
Highly cost-effective way to increase armour combination possibilities, and,
appeases those who like/dislike the design of one side, or asymmetry in general.

Human vs Norn armies: who would win?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Pure Heart.1456

Pure Heart.1456

If Human and Norn armies were to face off against one another, who would win?

Unless I am missing something, I would have to side with the Norn, because all races can be any profession, so the Norn’s innate sheer physical superiority would tip the balance.

Thoughts?

Edited for clarity;
this topic is intended to deal with the lore in the Guild Wars franchise, not the actual gameplay in Guild Wars 2.

Players with Titles: YOUR impression(s)?

  • Favourite unlocked: The Magnanimous because I think highly of the notion.
  • I want to have the Legendary Champion title.
  • Respected title: Been there done that, and Legendary Champion because they both require a great deal of effort.
  • Disliked title: Twice-told Legend because it represents a disgusting amount of available time, luck, money and extravagance.
  • Title want created: The Righteous because I think highly of the notion. Obtaining it should require completing several other titles, for instance Combat Healer and other in-game activities/achievements such as completing the personal story, helping that kid finish his snowman, and any other do-goody stuff. No brainer, really.

Please stop creating outfits

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Pure Heart.1456

Pure Heart.1456

My guess at most people’s overall thoughts and feelings summed up;

Frustration & disappointment
It feels like Anet are only releasing outfits. This is because they haven’t released enough new full armour sets since launch, and, the ones that have been released just haven’t “hit the spot” for a lot of people.

Some of the outfits (at very least, some of the pieces of some outfits) look very nice—and consequently many people would like to have said pieces to mix and match with other pieces. This can’t be done, and it’s just plain frustrating.

While the “technical issues” excuse for pushing out outfits instead of armours may be ‘valid’ to some extent, it is regardless, entirely unacceptable and a clear example of an overall loss in production quality and excellence in favour of cost reduction and time saving. Anet have already proven that it is possible to create myriad individual pieces and still have them look great.

Releasing outfits in and of themselves is not the issue. What is the issue however, is that many people are desperately hanging out for some new stuff, and when it finally arrives in the form of an outfit that they can’t freely make use of, well, it’s just heartbreaking. Anet need to release armour—even if it’s not the same ‘theme’ as the outfit—alongside every outfit release.

That would appease the crowd, guaranteed.

RNG as a concept: Discuss

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Pure Heart.1456

Pure Heart.1456

The concept of “choice & compromise” has not yet been mentioned, I think, but needs a short intro;

In real life people feel happiest when they have succeeded at a particular undertaking (especially of their choosing)—and consequently reap the expected intangible and tangible rewards of that success. Therefore, in order to reproduce that happiness in your game, there must be rewards (and compromises) commensurate with any undertaking. Conversely, illogical (unexpected) generic rewards mostly detract from the entire experience. *See Blue Moa’s, wolves and other wild animals dropping great swords and bows and spears. But I digress.

Therefore, in creating the best experience, there is simply no getting away from an RNG system that directly manipulates the outcome of an RNG in favour of what a person expects, (John’s option 2), but having chosen a path, perhaps compromised, and subsequently succeeded.

In real life people make choices and compromises—some that prove difficult decisions to make—usually before they go on an undertaking.This aspect of choice and compromise is mostly ‘backwards’ or absent in the current adventure/random loot system, and it is the same for all players—when instead there is opportunity to really make it “their story”.

THE MEAT

The improved RNG system would have players choose a theme that would reflect the direction in which a player wishes to advance. RNG loot drops are tied to both the mob types and the theme. Final, high-end items could not simply ‘drop’, but require assembly by combining other items obtained through a database of random events (adventures) tied to the player’s chosen theme. (their story)
These adventures could require compromise, rather like certain direction changes people face in real life—changing a university degree half way through for example—i.e. in GW2 said character “theme” changes, combat required with a specific weapon combination for X amount of time etc.

Bottom line: loot drops or is acquired more or less according to player expectation but also only after their having made an active choice or compromise.

No had a pre-cursor drop? What is your /age?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Pure Heart.1456

Pure Heart.1456

1800 hours, no drops.
I’ve said this once, I’ll say it again; There should be an algorithm before the standard random generator that goes something like; “If player has played X amount of hours and precursor drop count is less than 1, drop precursor. Else, do normal loot generator.”

Pets should stay stowed when stowed.

Need help picking a Condi Perma Regen Build

in Ranger

Posted by: Pure Heart.1456

Pure Heart.1456

My take on the perma-regen, beastmaster build.
I’ve been using this for months now, love it:

Excellent armour @ 3000
Decent power @ 2400 —- but your your bird pet will do kick kitten dps
Might stacking, invulnerability, and stability from your signets (20% CD reduction too!)
Perma regen—-Either Runes of Dwayna or Runes of the Dolyak
Sigil of Renewal and Sigil of Energy on each of your weapons = semi-perma dodge and even more healing.
Zero condition removal so you’re pooched with multiple, long duration conditions on you—-swap out troll ungent for the healing spring if this bothers you.

Final note: I temporarily drop one or two of the signets (usually signet of the hunt first) depending on the situation—Sic ’em is a must have against thieves for example.

Texas Ranger armour: here's how it happened

in Ranger

Posted by: Pure Heart.1456

Pure Heart.1456

Anet game designer envisaged a sword/bow/dagger-wielding, elven-ish, druid-ish, at-one-with-nature-and-the-beasts Ranger.

Says said designer to American art team, “Go create some armour for a Ranger”.
Infamous last words;

We now have as many variations as one could imagine for an American ‘Texas’ Ranger in a cowboy hat and trench coat—but without the possibility to actually wield pistols or a rifle. Click for a Texas Ranger

End Result; Ludicrous. Tell me this ain’t how it went down, and I’ll eat my hat.
Anet, may we please have more armour that has synergy with a fantasy-style Ranger?

Why can't rangers use pistols and rifles?

in Ranger

Posted by: Pure Heart.1456

Because being a Ranger doesn’t necessarily mean you are Chuck Norris, nor the Texas Ranger.

But they decided to make Cowboy ‘Texas Ranger’ trench coats and cowboy hats and face-hankerchiefs in abundance… it’s xxx-for-brains that “Rangers” can’t then flesh out this role with rifles and pistols.

Total design failure me thinks.

PvP
Build experimentation/perfection

.
If you have completed all of this, and/are bored with the content that can not be completed per se’, (i.e. WvW/PvP) then frankly speaking there are only two remaining options;

1) Enjoy the social interactions; guilds, helping new players etc.
2) Don’t play until new content that interests you is released.

It really is that simple. And there is nothing wrong with that.

[Suggestion] Disease

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Is it the idea that you dislike, or just using that name for the idea? We could call it something else, after all.

Part of the answer to your question is in my post, but to expand briefly,
How does the notion of disease (or similar mechanic by a different name) improve on the existing gameplay? In my view, it doesn’t. The ‘pros’ the OP refers to are vague and contrived.

[Suggestion] Disease

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Pure Heart.1456

Pure Heart.1456

No offense, but I think the idea of disease is ridiculous.

Not least because disease is something that people tend to suffer over relatively long periods of time, which clearly isn’t representative of the seconds-to-minutes long combat encounters in Guild Wars 2.

Then there is the issue of what of kind of disease. For example, Parkinson’s Disease —where characters would shake and drop their weapon on every tick? Or Tourret’s Syndrome perhaps, whereby characters would randomly /yell profanities and remain in a ‘stunned’ position. Leprosy, anyone? Rabies?

If you can’t have a house right in the center of Lion’s Arch or Divinity’s reach, a house that everyone walks past, looks at and goes ‘wow!’…

…What is the point!?

Instanced housing—which is the only way it could ever happen— is like having a legendary weapon but putting the skin of a white trash item on it.

Therefore, no one will ever know or care you have a house, or want to go and see it unless you tell and invite them to have a look, at which point (should they bother to visit) they will spend about 47 seconds inside before they leave the instance to go run some other content directly relevant to them.—Your hours of customizing and furnishing will amount to sweet F.A.

Rubberbanding is where you jump back as expected, but then the game returns you to the location where you jumped from and puts your skill on CD (meaning if you used it to get away from that big OHKO, you just got placed right back into that OHKO).

Lets Talk: Player Housing

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Pure Heart.1456

Pure Heart.1456

Player housing (including the decoration and furbishing) amounts to content that for the most part only the owner, a single player can enjoy.

For many, this enjoyment is limited in direct proportion to the degree in which the housing can be displayed and shown off to others.

Instanced housing, while technically allowing players to do this, is a ‘sad’ and uninteresting method of implementation.

Unless a player can have his/her house in a ‘real’ non-instanced part of the world, i.e. have it freely viewable and accessible by other players, motivation and meaning is severely diminished.

If it exists only in an instance, it doesn’t really exist.

@Cufufalating
You’re right, just relying on the sigil and food your chances are limited. (approx. 35%)
However, I feel that even with all your other sources of chill, namely;
Icy Screech (pet), Frost Trap, Cold Snap (Spirit), landing them is highly circumstantial.

The end result is that the build, while indeed well-specced for chill, completely lacks in condition removal, and has very low dps, the damage it does deal from conditions is spread out over time, which naturally, many enemies will have healed or removed those conditions.

At best, a chill build can serve merely as support in a group battle—which is what the OP is after apparently—wanting to be a “valuable addition to any havok team

Posted by: Pure Heart.1456

Pure Heart.1456

Kudos to everyone with their positive views on success versus thieves.

However, I feel that we need to be more realistic, because success depends on several factors— none of which are a guaranteed—and even if they were, the Ranger player needs to have a specific build(s) catered to thieves, which render the ranger less effective in many other situations.

The problem, is that the thief is able to achieve effectiveness (against most classes with ease) with a single build, but the Ranger needs a specific build(s) and needs to expend great effort to survive—let alone defeat—a thief. Balance issue!

The Sic ’em skill is a step in the right direction, but four seconds is ridiculous—it needs to be six to eight seconds.
