Lv.80 Scrapper (Alchemist Persenia)
Lv.80 Druid (Mender Zalintyre)
Druids deserve to be in a party any party, especially when people get beaten in dungeons like AC paths 1, 2 and even in all paths of Twilight Arbor, just remembered had a story run one time recently where all but 3 people died constantly.
This! I was a Cleric, Rune of the MONK Healing Druid and let me tell you, I ran AC P1 and the part where Hodgins needs to stay alive while everyone else DPS’s the mounds with mobs pouring out, I was able to heal Hod back up to full when he was about to die. I continued to provide him HP and we finished the task in no time. Granted the party I was with was new, but the matter of the fact is DRUID healer is so good and I MAIN it now.
Im a Sylvari male Druid, and I dont really get that Celestial feeling by having my feet touch the ground.
This! We need a better way to see Allies HP bar, so we healers can heal better!
Hello everyone,
I was just suggesting if our Celestial Avatar form could animate us floating above the ground a bit, to give it more of a hovering mystical avatar feeling versus our feet being planted on the ground?
my zerk longbow ranger does way more dmg than what the druid was shown on the stream. + my lb ranger has piercing arrows which lets me do a little bit of aoe consistantly. how will healing give me access to more drops?
Sometimes I wonder if posters here have any logic at all. Why would a druid that has access to a lot of group healing and support do as much damage as a longbow zerk ranger?
If you’re complaining that the devs didn’t introduce a spec that does more damage than any current ranger despite many complaints about the profession being unwanted because it can’t provide support…I’ll just let you reread that sentence out loud and maybe you’ll understand the lapse of logic here.
Not only that but that whole “Tether foes to you and deal damage to them that you suffer” is powerful as kitten. And you can still transfer damage that is reduced by boons?
Leo hon, Clearly he just doesnt get it. Him and many other ZERKER ZOMBIES are going to complain like salty nerds. With no sense of an open mind.
So tossing pejoratives at people because they don’t share your views is an indication of an open mind ?
Honey no, people who toss around negative opinions and comments about a ELITE SPEC they have never played, nor tried in any game mode PvX.
So you attack people for having an opinion about a video game ?
You have no more experience of the spec than they do and yet comment in support of it.
First of all no one is attacking anyone. Second of all, I support the fact that no one has played the spec yet, and should not bash it. I support the idea of giving it a chance before you knock it. Clearly your mentality is backwards honey pie sugar plum.
Ahh, so calling people nerds and zombies, and referring to them as mentally backwards, weren’t verbal attacks? Got it.
I haven’t knocked the spec, haven’t commented on its merits at all.
No one has played the spec and so no one knows whether it is good or bad. Praising something without experience of that something isn’t any better than criticizing without experience.
Your perception is your reality. If you want to take facts and turn them into personal attacks against you, then that is on you babe. Clearly I’am happy about the route ANET is going with their new ROLES granted by the elite specs, including the druid. Things are going in my favor along with many others who cant wait to HEAL.
Thank you,
You and your team have done a fantastic job, theme wise and more, on the DRUID. Finally roles are coming into Guild Wars 2 after 3 years of boring DPS ZERKER META.
Despite all the salty and negative comments around the forms and in game. I want to say thank you, for the DRUID truly speaks to me on a personal level.
I cannot wait to finally enjoy dungeons, raids, and more. I stayed clear from dungeons and fractals because I was bored of the whole STACK and DPS META. Thank you and all of ANET for realizing that issue and creating the ELITE SPECS, to bring back ANET’S vision of a soft TRINITY.
-Purecura
From the start of the game, Anet’s vision was to replace the MMO Holy Trinity (hard trinity – tank, dps, healer) with their own “Soft Trinity” DPS, Support, Tank. With Support includes both offensive (crowd control, snare, debilitating conditions, etc.) and defensive (heal, block, reflect, etc.)
Professions/Classes are not locked into a certain role but rather you can customize your build to perform certain roles better than others.
While this trinity somewhat exists in PvP and WvW (GvG fight with frontline and backline formations), in PvE it totally fell short as current PvE contents are badly designed to favor DPS DPS DPS.
So Anet is trying hard to address this in the upcoming expansion to restore “the balance”. I guess we’ll just have to wait and see.
Ive always been on board with the fact that you guys needed an over haul. And for the most part stayed away from your forums due to the tremendous amount of whining that’s been going on for so long about said subject. Hell, You can hardly escape the subject in game…
However….
After the druid reveal, I would be quite upset myself.. And I support your cries for help. To be reduced to nothing but PVE heal bots. Talk about kicking a person when they’re down. Thankfully I retired mine long ago
Let the era of the Revenant begin…
Its nice to have Roy behind us. He actually cares about his job and had passion for the profession and elite spec he was creating. So luckily we were well taken care of, Sadly, Fate had it different for you Dragon Hunters and Druids
Ummm no.

Did Anet forget when they launched GW2 that one of their primary claims to fame was removing the “MMO Holy Trinity” of Tank, DPS, Healer?
Or did that concept go out the window somewhere and I missed it?
This is a common misconception. From the start of the game, Anet’s vision was to replace the MMO Holy Trinity (hard trinity – tank, dps, healer) with their own “Soft Trinity” DPS, Support, Tank. Wow… Just a huge wow. Let me HUG you for saying this in such a clear and precise way! You totally summed it all up! People need to read this and realize ANETs vision for GW2 and how it fell short, and what they are doing now to revive it.

People can’t seem to think outside the box and see how to apply the druid outside of a pure healer role. Just because it has a lot of healing potential doesn’t mean it won’t be powerful in a zerker or condition damage role. Eric has got it right, it gives the ranger class all of the utility it needs to step outside of it’s current comfort zone and be more than simply a DPS class.
Preach it man…
Yassss honey pie! Although I will be a DRUID healer. hands down!
Seems like a reasonable divide between the two. Druid heals also seem more focused as you have to aim them while revenant heals are area effects around the revenant.
Rather around Ventari’s Tablet. I really like this whole setup ANET has going on with Ventari Legend stance for the Revenant, and the Druid. Gives you options on what kind of healer you wish to be.

Here is a link, where Roy Cronacher comments on the difference between the two healing types.
Roy Cronacher: “Druid is more about burst healing in key moments as it takes a while to build up astral force to enter celestial avatar, Ventari is more about sustain healing.”

lol i doubt it. nobody runs healer cuz it’s much better to do something else.
oh? seen all the new content in HoT already, have you?
oh? expecting anything to really change with HoT, are you?
oh? Think you know it all? Are you from the future by any chance? Have you played HoT already? Boo boo, close your mouth, you know nothing except how to talk negative about something you have no idea about. #Bye

Hello fellow Rangers and Druids-to-be,
This October 2nd, 2015 when the Final BWE3 begins and we are all able to test out the DRUID, lets make sure we give the developers constructive FEEDBACK, that they can review and analyze in order to make the necessary changes to improve upon the Elite Specialization if need be.
Lets refrain from putting out negative immature post/comments like most in the ranger community, and otherwise, are doing now towards the Druid. We need to communicate effectively in a humble, positive way in order to get points across when the BWE rolls around.
(This is taken from the news announcement for the BWE3 event. This is what the Devs are looking for.
BWE3—Feedback
So what kind of feedback are we looking for?
We’d love to get your thoughts on the revenant and all the elite specializations. We’d like your comments on the two new elite specializations, as well as the balance changes and updates we’ve made to the ones we’ve shown before. Were they fun to play? Did they change the way you play your profession in a meaningful way?)
Thank you for taking the time to read this thread, as its very important to represent ourselves as mature, intellectual, kind players with a sense of respect.
-Purecura
(edited by Purecura.1795)
I would like to thank Anet for how much work they are putting into these specializations. Most people seem to forget that most game developer’s throw their players’ opinions out of the window and just do what they feel is best for everyone. So thank you Anet (yea there’s some things that need to be fixed, but that comes with time).
Next, I’d like to say that I am highly disappointed some of the ranger community, heck some of the overall GW2 community, for just finding any opportunity to when their expectations aren’t met. NEWS FLASH! You didn’t make this game, you don’t own it, and the dev’s don’t owe you anything. If you can’t appreciate the changes that are happening to your specific class, change classes, and if you don’t like any other class you can just play another game.
I’d like to state that I am not an expert in any of these fields, all it took was for me to go to Google and do some research Yea, its that kittening easy
Now to address the druid:
It seems like most people don’t see the connection between the term “druid” and “celestial”, and other are just angered that the druids is healing oriented. Well, I’m here to tell you all that there is a connection and that the druid being a healer is thematically appropriate.
Let’s start with the definition of “Celestial”:
1. of, relating to, or suggesting heaven or divinity
2. of or relating to the sky or visible heavens <the sun, moon, and starts are celestial>
3. otherworldly, eternal
Example of Celestial: Starts, planets, asteroids, and other celestial bodies
Used in a sentence: The late afternoon sunlight gave the room a celestial glowIn other words, celestial has everything to do with nature. “Nature” itself has nothing to do with JUST plants and animals. Nature is anything that is natural or not man-made. Thus celestial does in fact fit the theme of a natural druid/ranger.
Source: http://www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/celestial
Now, lets go to the history/definition of “Druid”: (there’s different variations but I’ll refer to this general druid concept)
“In ancient times a Druid was a philosopher, teacher, counselor and magician, the word probably meaning ‘A Forest Sage’ or ‘Strong Seer’. In modern times, a Druid is someone who follows Druidry as their chosen spiritual path.”In other words Druidry is a spiritual following that revolves around nature.
During Druidry training, “you are taught thirteen rituals in addition to the eight Druid seasonal ceremonies. These rituals help to attune you to the natural word, to rhythms of the earth and moon, the sun and stars”
Source: www.druidry.org
Thus Druidry does not only include a connection with Earth’s nature but also celestial nature (stars, sun, moon, other planets, the galaxy).
This is also why having a dps oriented Druid just does not fit. A Druid is a spirtual figure, almost like a priest (sorta). If anyone has ever played other MMORPGs, they will know that a priest is generally a healing/protection based class. As a result, the Druid’s overall healing theme fits perfectly.
Finally, each armor group has a healing based class:
It seems that most people haven’t noticed Anet has given each armor group (heavy, medium, and light armor) a class that specializes in heavy healing, and ranger is the medium healer. So please don’t post counterproductive topics to this forum. Its hard enough on the devs as it is. They want to hear from us, but only if what we have to say will benefit the overall game/community.
Overall Conclusions (Based on Discussion):
Druids (in game) don’t totally mirror real druids (especially in relation to GW1). Anet has not yet provided an explanation for how the current druids came to be considering the differences between druids in GW1 vs GW2. We just wait for an explanation from HoT (hopefully).
Thank you so much for this post. Truly we need more people like this in MMORPGs in general, but more specifically, in Guild Wars 2. For the past day, all I have heard, are a bunch of players saying how DRUID is RUSHED, or HEALING BOT, or is just WROGN in general.
It upsets me. I dont like the TEMPEST at all, nor do I like the Daredevil. But im not going to bash the class, or put it down. I will give constructive feedback, and even throw in mature sound opinions. Not some raging salty nerd tantrum like most have done in the ranger community.
SO once again OP, thank you for making this post. @Irenio please read this post, it truly is uplifting among the negative comments.
How about we all wait for BETA again right? Ok? and after BETA is over, lets make a thread called BW3 DRUID FEEDBACK , and tell the devs what we think works and what doesnt in a mature constructive way, so we can get the results we desire.
Because I mostly see a bunch of nerds complaining about how their class is now ruined, etc, etc.
All these posts (especialy the negative ones) are just silly. What about waiting for beta (connected to possible changes at class after beta and before HoT) and raid mechanics. Then judge whether it´s useless or not.
Concept is awesome by the way, hopefuly it will be great to have druid in a party for raids and possibly higher fotm levels.
You just made me smile babe. We need more people like this commenting and making post. <3
Now that we have ROLES and harder content in HoT. We need to open up more to the playerbase. Why should every class focus on DPS? That Boring and so not creative in terms of gameplay.
Druid offers a unique approach to gameplay during raids. See it as something new, breaking the old. jesus you ppl whine and complain about stupid kitten
Remind me what’s unique about the Green Bar / Red Bar playstyle again ?
From what i can recall it’s been in every game since well….pong.Not a very unique playstyle.
Opening up the game to more people i have no problem with, so long as they stop shifting the goalpost on what this game was designed to be.
This game was not designed to be a traditional trinity system….and so far we are coming ever closer to it. For what purpose ? Hard content, Incorporating more players ? Take your pick its as good as anyone else. However if it truly is the later, then these people need to do the proper research into a product before expecting it to be yet another Traditional MMO clone.
See, this is the thing. Guild Wars 2 wanted to get rid of the TRINITY, which resulted in the BIRTH of the super boring, uninspiring, BESERKER META. Which imo is less exciting than the age old TRINITY SYSTEM. There is a huge reason why ANET said that ELITE SPECS, are going to offer unique roles to combat in GW2. If they were fine, and the player base was fine with the ZERK META, then I believe these class changes would not be happening.
But clearly ANET and many others realize they missed their mark on letting the trinity go and incorporating something NEW. Iam not saying you need a TRINITY, but you need to offer something more than just DPS DPS DPS, STACK STACK STACK.
With the elite specs including druid’s healing role, it adds more variety to many unique players who dont want to be forced into ZERK GEAR ONLY PLS.
Just wanna say thank you to Irenio,
As a player who loves to heal, this makes me so happy to become more involved with GW2 dungeons and RAIDS. Ignore those who dislike the idea, they are sad they didnt get the VERSION of DRUID they were sadly expecting.
You made a good move Irenio, and I and many other cannot wait to play DRUID healer!!!
- I like the idea of a strong healing Ranger.
- I hate the idea that Druid complements nothing the ranger has.
You really don’t need any other traitlines or weapons other than staff. You are hard-locked into the healer role if you roll Druid. Trying to run a damage dealer or any hybrid-tank with Druid is going to be ineffective.
HoT has yet to be released, lets not talk as if the Druid will not compliment anythiing the ranger currently has. Besides I see various ways you can toy with core ranger traits with DRUID. Nature magic, and Beastmastery being two trait lines.
It’s still in development, but having the entire class being healing focused (not boons mind you) allow us to have an understanding of what kind of playstyle ArenaNet was going for.
Just because a mechanic is up for changing doesn’t mean the mechanic will completely change. It could! It could not. It depends on the feedback.
If it gets good feedback, it will stay, if it gets bad feedback, it will change. Simple as that.
Druid barely has any boons, so Nature Magic won’t be as effective as I like it to be. Fortifying Bond and Lingering Magic, both really good minor traits are going to be under performing sadly.
Right, we know that every ELITE spec in GW2 is not going to remain the same. The other Elite specs have already had major work done based on feedback, (Besides Scrapper). So, it just upsets me to see people talk so negative about the elite spec, when it looks way more promising than when TEMPEST, was revealed. Lets be honest here.
Irenio, has done something amazing, along with the team that worked on DRUID. There is still work to be done, as with any piece of art. Its our job as players to play the spec, see how it synergies with other traits, how well it heals, etc. Then create a BETA Weekend Thread here in the forums on the final BETA, so the devs can analyze and review feedback.
With the new druid announcement people are screaming “healer class yay!” Keep in mind that if you are healing you aren’t doing damage and therefore dragging on a fight and cooldowns are still lengthy. You are doing instanced content and people want to complete that instance as fast as possible.
A player using heals instead of being a fifth dmg output is going to make the run slower and the players who are better skilled can hold their own will not want you in their party. The core dungeons will never change. Anet said they weren’t working on new ones and are working on raids.
Healers in GW2 still cannot do direct target heals for any party member its all AoE and weak. Heals to other party members will always be too weak unless they are burst and have high cooldowns.
Moving on to tanks…. No aggro meter in GW2 so lets just stop right there.
What I saw from the druid was great support, not heals. Healing is just the secondary to the damage mitigation. GW2 as far as protecting allies has always been about damage mitigation, not healing…. mitigation in the way of blocks, reflects, blinds, protection boon, and weakness.
In conclusion, raids and dungeons will never need a dedicated healer or tank… just good damage mitigation. All content currently out on GW2 doesn’t require either. Players die because they don’t know how to play their profession.
I don’t ever want to have to stare at my UI and millions of skills and health bars, I want to play the game.
What?! just stop… please stop… Have you played any RAIDS YET? DID you hear what IRENIO said about the ZERK META? Clearly you havent, and you decided to type out a long post about BS.
RAIDS arent about DPS, DPS, DPS like everything GW2 has been for 3 years. DPS DPS DPS. Its BS and borderline boring!
Now that we have ROLES and harder content in HoT. We need to open up more to the playerbase. Why should every class focus on DPS? That Boring and so not creative in terms of gameplay.

From your post and comments, it’s as if you’ve already TESTED out the DRUID… Clearly.. you cannot negatively comment, along with others who are doing the same negative thing, complaining about the druid and its synergy with the core ranger or calling it a HEALING BOT ( Pffft). Give it a few, relax, wait for the final beta. Play the DRUID. “TEST” things out, give constructive feedback after BETA is over. Then go from there… Simple.
(edited by Purecura.1795)
That’s kind of the problem, druid seems so good at healing that unless other classes get a huge buff , healer druids might become required, don’t want to go back to lfg druid 8/10.
Ill help you whenever I can! You can add me. I’ll main Healer support druid!
Irenio,
Thank you so much for a well thought out spec. The DRUID truly is unique for GW2 and I cannot be more happier. It upsets me how so many people can complain over such an amazing class.
They need to go sit in a corner somewhere and learn to be grateful. Ppl are spoiled so much. I just want to say thank you for all your hard work over the months and the dedication into making a class I’ve been wanting to play since I began playing 3 years ago.
Keep up the good work ANET and IRENIO!!!! Druid HEALER INCOMING!!!
Well you could have healed in dungeons all this time mate, elementalist and guardian says hello, you just could not join the zerker groups and you still wont be able to.
Ive played them, and they dont offer the kind of healing playstyle I want. The DRUID is all about healing where the Elementalist was only half of the healing mode that DRUID is. Remember ELITE SPECS are roles implemented by ANET. So Druid is more me in terms of all arund healing.
I played a Scholar in FFXIV, and Druid is similar to me. I cant wait.
Just wanna say thank you to Irenio,

Druids heavily reminded me of FFXIV’s Scholar.
They are healers with pets, and this create a very interesting dynamic: FFXIV is a game with a hard trinity, but Scholars can still contribute to the party DPS thanks to their pets. But it’s a reversed to what we’ll have here, because the pets are the ones doing the healing while the Scholar is the one doing the damage.
It would be interesting to have a Healer pet here too, maybe.
This! I mained a Scholar in FFXIV and its my favorite JOB in the Final Fantasy UNiverse! Which is why I’ve been drawn to DRUID! Id love to heal while my pet can heal too, or even tank while I heal it.
Screw the haters, ANYWAYS Iam so HAPPY TO BE A HEALER NOW! WHat GEAR WILL I NEED?
NOMAD DRUID META FTW!
YAY! FOR THE ULTIMATE I-STAND-IN-A-CORNER-AND-COMPLETELY-RELY-ON-OTHERS-TO-KILL-STUFF-FOR-ME FEELING!
It’s gonna be sad really – our pets will be out dpsing nomad druids lmao
Jus heal the pet and let him tank. OMG I CANT WAIT!!!!
Screw the haters, ANYWAYS Iam so HAPPY TO BE A HEALER NOW! WHat GEAR WILL I NEED?
NOMAD DRUID META FTW!

DONT GET MAD I HAVE CELESTIAL POWERS BOO BOO HONEY
Screw the haters, ANYWAYS Iam so HAPPY TO BE A HEALER NOW! WHat GEAR WILL I NEED?
ZERKER GEAR!
NO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Why cant you do both dps and heal, like being a hyrbid?
Its not like you lost access to other weapons and traits. Even the Staff 1 was pumping out some decent damage.
Have you seen how garbage your damage is with healer runes/sigils/accessories ? If you want to even remotely deal decent damage you dress for success.
I think all of you who are celebrating the new Druid revelation do not seriously main as a ranger.
If i was interested in main healing i seriously doubted i would have made a ranger 3 years ago. I more than likely would have expected my Guardian to be the main heals.
stop being so negative. #ByeFelicia
What the heck does “celestial avatar” have to do with druids? Ugh. This whole thing. Gross. I feel like this should’ve been the guardian elite spec.
“The Druids were a group of Krytan humans that long ago moved to the Maguuma Jungle in order to live with nature. The Druids now exist as spirits, appearing similar to Oakhearts.”
Ancient Druid Spirit: http://wiki.guildwars.com/images/5/5b/Melandru%27s_Watcher.jpg
Throwin’ a bit of GW1 lore knowledge to those who are still fathomed by why the ranger’s druid class is how it is right now – so yes, Druid is done RIGHT. /end
THANK YOU!!!!!!!!!!
The druid spec and gear synergies don’t mix at all with the rest of the weapons or traits.
The other specializations and weapons shine in berzerker or sinister/rabid setups, which don’t benefit remotely from the cleric/shaman centric focus and all the redundant healing traits and skills on the druid.
It’s going to be a complete clash.
Either spec cleric/shaman and heal well with the druid, while doing GARBAGE damage with the rest of your weapons and utilities, or spec berzerker/rabid/sinister and do well with the other weapons but have little synergy with the staff and celestial form.
Celestial Form in fact is a DPS nerf to the ranger, you enter a form purely centered on healing with no offensive aspect.
I also am not happy how the druid shifted from a natural theme to some celestial theme out of the blue. It’s not related to a wild, natural theme.
umm, its both astral and nature. The cosmos and the stars are as much apart of nature. Wether a leaf on the ground, or a distant star, all are apart of nature. Shamans from many types of lore, focus their energies not just on nature, but cosmic bodies.
Agreed. Going from unwanted to mandatory means that it will be “Druid or kick” for all group content. Rangers wanted a spec that would make us useful, instead we are going to be pigeonholed into a healer role that NO ONE HAS EVER ROLLED A RANGER TO PLAY.
This! Rangers to Druids will now offer something never before in GW2. Its groundbreaking! And I’am so happy!
Here is a link to the druid reveal on dulfy…
http://dulfy.net/2015/09/25/gw2-druid-ranger-elite-specialization-livestream-reveal/You’ve probably already seen it. I never thought what the expansion had to offer was going to be worth 50$, but seeing the direction they are taking ranger I’m glad I didn’t financially support that nonsense.
Will Druid get rangers a spot in Raids and GWEN?
Sure.
Did most rangers want to become forced into group healer just to be invited? Nope.
Making spirits damage immune (or at the very least something that can survive in dungeons and raids) and giving us access to resistance boon for the group wouldve been more than enough.
What the heck does “celestial avatar” have to do with druids? Ugh. This whole thing. Gross. I feel like this should’ve been the guardian elite spec.
The worst part? Lack of synergy. Staff doesn’t fit into any non-healer type build that we have. And maybe I’m reading them wrong, but every single glyph looks like it would be a terrible choice for any existing build. Druid looks like a full package, this stuff goes well together but not with anything else.
Everyone has an opinion. Sorry to see you so upset about the DRUID. Its totally everything I WANTED! I am now switching mains to druid!
Theme wise. It totally works. Druids are one with Nature and some may even call them shamans. Mages who align with the cosmos, and all that is celestial and of nature.

I’m jealous because everyone’s getting (way) more skills than the chrono :c
But, hey, we got F5 ! /s
I’m really happy for the Ranger/Druid thought.
Druid got F5 too! And I freaking loathe the Druid announcement. I see no reason to bring anything but Druids.
Idk, maybe if you want to do damage?
Remember, content in HoT is not regular GW2 content. its tougher and harder. Each class will bring roles. Druids can do dmg, but that is not their main focus. They will bring their own to the table within raids, and dungeons now. ZERK meta is over honey pie.
As a staff elementalist, nothing on the wiki bothers me much. They have 1 combo water field and no real hard cc. The entire spec is built around healing and soft cc.
PvE content is not hard enough to justify a full support character.
They will complement staff elementalists in WvW, but not replace them, because of their lack of combo fields and hard aoe cc.
And there isn’t enough information about their trait line to tell whether or not they are going to have the personal survivability to be an effective bunker support in pvp.
I’m actually happy. I hope this works out for them. Rangers have been the GW2 red headed stepchildren for far too long.
This! In some MMOs you have 2 types of Healers. I see GW2 Elementalist and Druids being the go to Support classes. Its just up to you on how you wish to SUPPORT!
Screw the haters, ANYWAYS Iam so HAPPY TO BE A HEALER NOW! WHat GEAR WILL I NEED?
Thanks for this sweetie!
Ranger main now because of Healing Druid. Been wanting that for a while now
Same for me! I got a Ranger to 80 3 months ago, just hoping DRUID will be a support type class! And I was right! SO worth the wait! I only have 2 chrs, one Mesmer and now a DRUID, oh and a REV! DRuid will be my new main
just because other classes can spec to fill a role that one does doesn’t make your class less useful. its all about team work.
It makes the class less useful when the other class does it significantly better.
So what, doesnt mean you cant top it off with your support.
THANK YOU SO MUCH!!!!!!! IRENIO!!!!
and what do you want to heal?
You, and anyone else who needs that extra heal. With RAIDS coming and harder content, lets realize that you are going to need more than your ONE HEAL SKILL/SPELL.
You are going to need DRUIDS!!!!! Casts Heal spell on everyone YAssssss
Thank you ANET!
As a lover of support healer classes in most MMOs this brings tears to my eyes! I may even main a druid now and leave Chronomancer. Iam beyond thrilled and happy. I cannot wait till heart of thorns releases. My 2nd chr is a Ranger, and is already lv 80! Iam beyond happy to now ave the oppurtunity to HEAL HEAL HEAL!!!!!
The theme fits well with me on a personal level as well!
Yasssssss, Wyverns and Dinosaurs are coming!!! And more!
Well assuming if you played GW from the very start or not, before 2 and the expansion (Faction and Nightfall), there were only six professions-
Warrior
Monk
Necromancer
Elementalist
Ranger
MesmerSince this was during the trinity era, you can pretty much tell what each professions did in the game however Mesmer was the most unquie in the game. Warrior melee, Monk heal and etc but for Mesmer, they interrupt enemy skill and did damager for it aswell.
Even then isn’t Mesmer is short for the word “Mesmerising” which means-
verb (used with object), mesmerized, mesmerizing.
1. to hypnotize.
2. to spellbind; fascinate.
3. to compel by fascination.Ok sure in the game, they don’t hypnotize but the word does related to visual and Mesmer can make illusions.
Well they do hypnotize in a way… I think lol.
Mesmers aka illusionists have been a Dungeons and Dragons class specialization for literally decades, with many terms straight up taken/borrowed (as far back as the mid 1970s)
There isn’t much uniqueness going on except for the purple color and butterflies
This is true. I played as an illusionist in Everquest 2 and an Enchanter in Ever Quest 1. But its so rare to see classes like that in MMOs nowadays. Difference with the mesmer is that, they have a emphasis on loving the arts and fashion. Other illusionist classes didnt really focus on that.
I’m just going to throw in another reply in case an actual dev doesn’t answer. However, some of this is just speculation that I have heard before.
1. Mesmers have been associated with illusionary magic and deception since gw1, just not in the exact same way.
2. I heard somewhere that mesmer’s used to be associated with circuses. Perhaps this is because the circus is one of the best places to use illusionary magic to deceive people.
3. I don’t know why, but the devs decided to strongly tie one of the human gods to this class. Lyssa is the goddess of beauty, water, and illusion. She is also heavily associated with chaos. Lyssa’s association with illusion, chaos, and beauty may also be one of the reasons why mesmers are associated with fashion, art, and beauty.
In one story, she took on the appearance as a twisted women with a flesh eating disease, but it turned out to be Lyssa. Lyssa said, “True beauty is measured not by appearance but by actions and deeds. Many have eyes, but few have seen. Of all here, you saw the beauty behind the illusion. And you alone shall be blessed with My gifts.”
https://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Lyssa
Is this where the first mesmers came from? What is Lyssa’s true appearance? No one knows. We have all heard the saying “beauty is in the eye of the beholder.” Perhaps this makes it easy for mesmers to use beauty against people. In fact, many mesmers may use magic to change their appearance. One of them is Countess Anise. During the world summit, Canach said he wonders if she is “really as young” as she looks.
https://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Countess_Anise
at the bottomMesmers may also naturally be very good at determining the presence of illusions, similar to how Sara determined that the plagued Lady was an illusion and was really Lyssa in the story I told you. One example of mesmers determining the presence of illusions is when the mesmer collective sent members to investigate the veil surrounding Viathan Lake that turned out to be the Tower of Nightmares.

4. I have also heard before that they may use a butterfly to symbolize mesmers because of the so called “butterfly effect.”
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Butterfly_effect
This is depicted in many areas of pop culture. For example, in one of the treehouse of horror episodes of the Simpsons, Homer used a time machine to go back in time. However, he accidentally stepped on a mosquito. When he returned, Flanders was dictator of the whole world. This was a parody of the story “A Sound of Thunder” by Ray Bradbury. In chaos theory, the butterfly effect basically states that small changes now can lead to very, very large differences in the future. For example, the detailed path of a Hurricane may have changed because earlier a butterfly was flapping its wings at a distant location. Therefore, the use of a butterfly as a symbol may tie into the mesmer’s association with both chaos and beauty. Stories using the butterfly effect like “A Sound of Thunder” also sets up the class specialization nicely for its role in controlling time.
Items that associate Lyssa with chaos or mesmers include
Chaos of Lyssa
The pistols Ilya and Lyss
and Runes of Lyssa
Very informative, while I’am highly knowledgeable on the LORE of the Mesmer profession, my main thing is why the class was created, and why it is the way it is in regard to its interest in beauty, illusions, etc. I hope we can get a DEV to answer this question.
