My guild beat it, and I’m in full clerics… I’m a druid healer. We didn’t have a tempest with us either. Some were in condi gear and other in zerker. If you are meant to focus on DPS then get DPS gear. If you are meant to tank or heal, get the required gear. Everyone doesn’t need zerk gear.

Healing design- real talk updated

The Druid experience…

-Must do damage to generate AF.

-Damage draws aggo and red circles from adds, mobs and bosses.

-Adds, mobs and bosses have different ranged, aoe, area… attacks or they chase you around.

-Everbody, including myself, needs to constantly dodge and “bob and weave” to stay alive because that’s how gw2 was designed.

-Among the dodging, red circle, graphics blur from powers… madness, I notice those barely noticeable health bars going down and proceed to enter CA form to save my team…

-Players then fall one by one because everyone body is running outside of my little heal circles and I can’t catch them because I’m all over the place too getting chewed up by mobs and red ground damage. Alternatively, I can jump in the fray and get chewed up there while some of these animations are taking forever…

Conclusions…

GW2 lacks all the proper design and support mechanics for team healing.

This Druid design is only efficient and helpful when the team is standing still, stacked up tightly and you do not have any aggro on you.

The design of this healer spec has limited viability and effectiveness in any “harder” content.

I’m sure Druids will look like healing gods in Orr while teams are beating up lone champs for their bags, but the nature of “chaotic” combat and necessity to move, random aggo generation, lack of highly visible health bars, needing to aim a reticle while needing to keep myself from wiping… all make for a very unpleasant experience.

I have 15 seconds to make the difference to avoid party wipes, but I’m spending half of those measly 15 seconds dodging, getting knocked and missing heals because everybody needs to move. Most of the cast and effect times take way too long considering I’m forced to work within a timer in the first place.

Playing a serious healer will be infinitely worse in wvw. In spvp, opponents will quickly learn to focus fire Druids. GG healers…

Fixes…

“Real” taunt powers/traits/skills should be given to the heavy armor professions or put into all profession trait lines designed to make for a studier frontline fighter.

Increase radius of all ranged heal skills to 360. That means staff 2 and 3, and CA form 1 and 2.

Staff 5 should be a 360 radius DOME instead of a wall.

Preferred fix- Make CA form a “stance” that is maintained until downed (risk vs reward thing) and adjust timers appropriately.

If you refuse to make CA form a “stance”, then it needs to last 30 seconds at the very least. It also needs innate stability and damage reduction.

Cast times and animation speeds of CA form skills need to be sped up.

Add burning conditions to Druid staff attacks.

Add cold damage and slows to all CA form ranged heals.

Also, Please fix up the sword. Allow for axe 5 to be mobile. Give dagger some love. Make short bow bleed from the front as well.

Edit 2- For a(the) dev(s) reading this… I hate to make comparisons, but I use to play a highly mobile game called city of heroes for years, and their “professions”, power design, power customization, combat mechanics, condition/counter condition systems, stealth/counter stealth mechanics, roles and role diversity among “professions”, a ton of other stuff… were, and still are, far superior to what we have in this game. Those devs really dug deep to create a fun, fast paced, user friendly, sensible and “easy to play-difficult to master” experience all around. There are a lot of things you could learn from that game, a whole lot.

I def agree with staff 5 being a DOME WITH A 360 Radius! The staff 5 right now is way to small!

CA form should last 30 secs. Not feeling the stance idea. As it’s a form like death shroud or reapers shroud. So it should remain a Form, and not a stance. Anyways I def agree with you on it lasting 30 secs and adding slow or chill condi on heals. Omfg and skill 1 and 2 need a 360 radius for sure. That 120 radius on skill 1 in CA form is wayyyyy to small. And casting it crates a delay on moving targets. No good

Both Wyverns cannot hit moving targets at all and are one of the worst at it. Fire wyvern’s F2 covers red circles of death. The Bristleback cannot hit any target on even a slightly different vertical plane than it.

ANet still has a lot of work to do with these and other pets.

Glyph of Unity

I use this Glyph as well. In PvE and PvP and I can really see it use in PvP. But PvE I don’t really see any effect.

I think it could use a buff in it’s range and even damage. Glyph of Tides and Glyph of Equality DMG is good. Maybe make Glyph of Unity DMG a bit higher than those glyphs and increase the radius of the tether. Or add retaliation and regeneration on it. (Regeneration Boon needs a Buff though.)

Here’s one! Lol

Iam a Druid main! All clerics gear with Superior runes of the Monk. I love being full support with some DMG. I use Staff and Greatsword.

My heals are high and I love that. I beat a Ele, Engi, guard, and rev is burst heals with some sustain. In PvP Iam able to tank at most 3 players.
In PvE I help keep people alive as much as possible during dynamic events, especially in Dragons Stand.

I find that having a GS versus axe/warhorn has given me access to better DMG and since our glyphs are only 300-600 radius, I can easily use them in combo with my GS. I use all glyphs btw and I really love their concepts. However glyphs could use a buff and staff as well. Glyph range is not big enough, and staff DMG and healing (besides ancestral grace) is to low. However staff is still a GOOD weapon an I will always use it, it’s just not as good as it should be IMO.

Anyway, the Druid in General is really fun and strong, with the BESt heals in the game. You can really turn the tides in PVP by keepin your team alive. No other class can bring their teams HP to full and keep it there with bursty heals. In PvE our heals are keeping players and even NPC HP at full. To say the least… I love it. Jus needs a few upgrades to glyphs and staff .

No ELITE SPECIALIZATION LORE [Spoilers]

That’s right,

I just finished the main story of HoT and I haven’t come across any lore regarding the elite specs. It’s like ANET slapped them into the game just because they needed to. Only hints “profession-wise” is when we see Rox questioning Rytlock about “His new magic, and where did he get it from.” However throughout the entire story, Rytlock continues to avoid talking about his Revenant magic.

That’s it, oh and the Dynamic event surrounding the Druids in Auric Basin. But that’s all we get… Oh and maybe you can count when Irenio gave us small lore on the Scrapper.

But as far as in game, how your Chr became their new elite, is non existent. This is highly upsetting because in MMOs like FINAL FANTASY 14: ARR, their classes have lore, even with the new ones that come out in that game. But in GW2, we get nothing. Arena Net, as a Role Player Iam forced to make my own stories about how my Sylvari became a druid… But tbh, I’d like more Indepth lore for every elite spec and hopefully the Revenant.

I have a feeling there will be more updates to HoT regarding story, and if so… I hope we get some more lore on the elite specs. Because they are poorly implemented lore wise into the game.

Nature themed druid sets

I went with the Daydreamers outfit, with the Daydreamers staff/ or Theodosus Spire staff skin. Back piece skin is Daydreams as well.

Imo it gives an elegant druid, high elvish look. Something a Druid who values the beauty of nature is a unique way.

One thing I learned from final fantasy xiv while i waited for the hot release, was that a separate lore for a toon skill progression is awesome and could have been far more interesting on the leveling from 1-80 while you level up learning about your class. Zaithan could have come later, after you hit 80.
Now, about the gw2 game as it is… well, its not perfect. But it’s fun, and i have been enjoying the progression without focusing on the grind and eventually unlocked half of mt elite spec and all the new maps (not 100%of course) just playing and exploring. so.. its fun, im not quite sure why people are so eager to rush and get everything.

Exactly. When I played Final Fantasy 14 Online, they had lore for the classes there. They were tied into the game. Arena Net just slapped on the Elite specs, and made us work hard for it, with no LORE attached. The only thing we get with the Revenant, is constant questions to Rytlock, and rytlock just continues to say “Not now, later.” Smh, this is highly upsetting.

Thank god Im a Role Player, so I can just make up my own stories, but its still not good enough. ANET needs to look at how Square enix handles their lore in FFXIV, and try something in the future with the classes and elite specs that we have.

After playing through the entire HoT story, I have not come across any specialization lore. Only Revenant and Druids are mentioned through out the story and some dynamic events. That’s it. ANET why is that?

OP thank you for this post. I was super excited to start playing Druid, but after playing with it for one day i feel it’s so lacking compared to it’s beta form. Irenio please do something about this… Druid is to gated by many things that hinder our healing abilities and effectiveness.

Yea I agree with OP. But as a Sylvari, I take Druid Spirit, because it draws condis, gives out a passive regen, has ranged DMG, that attacks up to 5 targets and immobilizes them. I prefer that spirit over nature on hands down.

No no, I disagree, that stance looks more fitting for a martial artist (daredevil) than druid. Actually the Daredevil community wanted the monkey king staff holding stance, versus what they currently have.

Dunno where everyone’s getting the idea that Zealots is going to be the best, but clerics is the way to go. You don’t play a druid in raids to do damage, you play one to heal and gimping your healing to do some terrible DPS is not worth the trade off

Druid Staff Stance

If both these stances were introduced to the game at the same time, I’d bet more people would hate the “hammer” staff stance for their druid.

There are arguments for both stances, but I personally hate the melee stance. It might be the most awkward stance in the entire game. At least the stance makes some sense when you’re holding a hammer, but no one holds a staff like that for a longer period of time. No one. If they wanted a more wild look to it, it would be a better with an enitre new, third stance for the druid that they could also use for less “scholary” professions later.

Druid Staff Stance

I absolutely love the fact that Druids hold the staff like it’s a melee weapon. They are medium armor, not light and that difference between the armor classes is great. Plus the animations of the Druid staff match the way he holds it. I think Anet did a great job separating medium and light armor classes this way. Changing the way Druids hold the staff is enough to make me just play my ele that i’ve been playing so far.

Current Druid Staff Stance: – I don’t mind this stance with the staff. From a lore point of view, Druids are MAGES of the forest. They arent going to hold the staff elegantly like a Mesmer, ele or necro. The scholar classes are mages that you;d def find in cities or towns versus a Druid who prefers nature. So the stance to me works well, it gives it that WILD look. Look at the Druid art for example.

Scholar Profession Staff Stance: – While male light armor professions hold the staff less elegant, the female character models hold the staff in a elegant fashion IMO. This look does not suit Druid imo. Male stance is alright but female is to sophisticated for a Wild Druid. I dont mind the Staff stance on my male sylvari, but im sure some will not like it on their female chrs.

This is actually not true.

That said, druid won’t be good because of its heals. Everyone can contribute to heals. The groups that won without druids just blasted water fields. Druid will be good because of its over-the-top offensive support on the order of having a second Warrior with buffs that stack. The heals are plenty strong with no healing power, and if some healing power is necessary for future raid encounters players will just fill in 1-3 zealots pieces and be on their way.

Do not make the mistake of assuming that because a druid is desired that your job will be spamming heals left and right. Au contraire, it’s far more likely to be a huge offensive support buffer and the weapon sets will otherwise echo standard power Ranger. Staff will only ever see use if the 3 skill is necessary for movement (ie. skips in old dungeons or to get inside certain AOEs in raids).

You cannot base your speculation that future raid encounters will not need a druid. What party defeated the raid boss in BWE3 without a druid. I’m curious to know. Otherwise I disagree with your response.. We have yet to see how effective druid will be with it’s new trait setup and change to healing power.

Likewise with assuming then.

You need to sit down and relax. You express yourself as if you played every RAID wing. Every Squad that defeated the first RAID BOSS over the BWE3 weekend had a DRUID. As a matter of fact, the first KILL ever had a DRUID with them. ZERKER meta is over! Learn to accept the better change.

You assume my “Friends” carry me in dungeons. That alone shows how you try to base your opinions as facts and renders you useless in my eyes to further any debate with you.

And every person who cleared it said they might not need the Druid when they have the raid down.

With the amount of healing and defense other specs can bring on top of you own dodges and self heal and then a Chronomancer lowering the cooldown of all those skills what will a Druid bring with just more healing? Nothing. What would cause that extra amount of healing to be needed? Unmitagatable damage? As I already, thats an increadbly poor design decision.

Throw your zerk meta buzz words around all you want, once again proving anybody who uses that phrase doesn’t actually know what the Zerk meta is or why it is bad for the game, but nobody kittening mentioned it, nobody really cares if it goes and the other elite specs are doing a better job of taking the game away from that then braindead heal spam.

People who actually play the game and know what other classes can do know that Druid isn’t going to be needed and the only way they will be needed is if they make some absolute horrid design choices in making the raids.

Just because your friends want to carry you in dungeons doesn’t mean people aren’t allowed to voice their concerns about how sub par ranger and druid are in all modes.

Unfortunately you went off on a unrelated topic and you’ve now realised that. Which is fine, at least you’re aware you don’t need a healer in dungeons.

Sigh, not every dungeon party will be ‘Zerker 80’ only. There will be many new players, and vets alike who wish to just enjoy a dungeon differently than running all zerker gear. Druid does not reinvent the dungeon zerker meta, it however creates a new FUN alternative to running it in a dungeon.

AC Path1 where you have to keep HODGINS alive, is one example of fun and a new alternative way to running that dungeon path in that moment. Healing Hodgins is def an option to keeping him alive. Especially when you are with new players or those who dont know about the dungeon path.

I cannot express how many times people loved my HEALING in the dungeons I ran during BWE3. No one hated that I was there healing them. I actually gave many a positive outlook on the druid and its support healing.

What about Cosmic Ray? (https://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Cosmic_Ray)

It needs a buff! Its cast time is a bit long, and so is the impact. In a raid everyone is running around and highly mobile. Its hard to target allies with the spell in order to get some good heals off. I suggest an increase to its radius atleast. 240? 200? Something other than 120.

Some knowledge at least, loving the change to Grace of the Land

Some really good changes here Irenio and team, however some make me wonder if they will be effective. Im going to make a list of the Spells/Traits that I wish to comment on. The Glyphs and their changes I did not list, because I like them and I have no comments about their reworkings. Now on to the spells/traits I did like and wish to comment on.

  • Grace Of The Land: This trait has been re-worked. Instead of its former behavior, allies affected by your celestial avatar abilities gain 3% damage and condition damage increase for 8 seconds. This buff stacks 5 times.

(G.O.T.L – New rework seems really nice. That increase to DMG and it stacks, I wonder how grand it will be once the game is live.)

  • Lingering Light: This trait has been re-worked. Instead of its former behavior, when you heal an ally their next outgoing attack will heal them (based upon your healing) and blind their target.

(L.L- New rework for this trait seems interesting. I wonder how effective it will be for our allies, and I wonder if there is a Internal Cooldown, for this trait regarding the heal on an allies next attack and the blind.)

  • Ancestral Grace: _ Is now an evade and will immediately end upon reaching your destination._

(A.G- Amazing! My only comment! Truly happy about this spell’s new change!)

~~~Celestial Avatar Form Changes~~~

  • C.A.F: Entering this form now has a 10s CD. Charging of Astral force by healing has been reduced by 40%. Charging of Astral force by outgoing strikes has been increased by 200%. You now retain half your current astral force if you decide to break form early.

(While I do not see any issue with the 10sec cooldown, I hope it wont make a difference when HoT is live. The reduction of charging Astral Force by healing down to 40% concerns me a bit. While outgoing attacks grant you a 200% increase, I wonder if this means that attacking grants you faster Astral Force gain. If it does, I hope it wont mean that healing to get Astral Force will be obsolete vs striking astral force gain. Since I will mostly be healing. This is just speculation of course.)

  • Healing Spells: Skills that heal have had their base heals reduced by 15-25% and increased their healing coefficients from 100-145%. This should leave base heals solid while really rewarding players who elect to use healing power stats.

( I will be in all Clerics gear with Superior runes of the monk, water sigils, etc. Iam really looking forward to how much better my heals will be, knowing that I will be rewarded with good heals in my healing gear. Only question is if this applies to both Celestial Avatar form heals, and Druid heals? Silly question, but I just want to confirm.)

  • Lunar Impact: Reduced the daze on this skill from 3s to 2s. This skill is now ground targeted and will blast finish correctly.

Do note, when they mean "increase the healing power scaling by 100~140%, it doesn’t mean your healing goes up from 5000 to 10000. It only means the SCALING of healing power is increased.

So if the original scaling of healing power is around 0.1, it means it now becomes 0.2~0.24, so 1000 healing power will only net you an additional 200~240 healing.

Reducing Base heal is more serious, since if the original is 5000, reducing by 25% means it’d now becomes 3750, a net lost of 1250. Overall it’s a huge nerf.

A nerf? Irenio seems pretty confident about the healing changes. Expressing that those investing in healing gear, (which I get 1400 in all exotics) will be rewarded. Iam really hoping these changes to healing are going to make a difference, especially for a support class like Druid.

No, you pretty much heal the same as before without healing power. Just that now you need to waste 1500 stats on healing to do the same thing you can do in BWE 3.

Like I said earlier, base heal -25% result in a net lost of 1250. Your healing power coefficient merely add that 1250 back.

AH now I see. Well I dont mind that. It will get rid of those druids wanting to spec in Zerker gear, by putting healing gear in the spotlight vs how it was looked at in the past.
There were Zerker Druids healing just as high without the need for healing gear in BWE3, and that was horrid to know. Glad these changes to healing are coming through.

I’m actually a roleplayer (go ahead, your mockery only nourishes my black heart), and the Druid spec is something that works so perfectly with my ranger character that I’m a little curious if the devs have been watching me RP.

Gameplay-wise, I always was a little surprised how much simplicity there is to Ranger. It’s a very easy class to pick up and learn, and much of the tricky stuff you can do later revolves around controlling the pet (e.g. making your bear kite enemies while you nuke them with longbow). Adding healing and a little control to the mix is a great way to make Ranger stand out.

I’m especially looking forward to the staff. You actually hold the thing like you hit someone with it rather than simply leaning on the thing while waving your hand, and the abilities look useful and flavorful. Glyphs don’t necessarily impress me as a full-bar proposition, but that’s all fine given that most of them have short recharge and have some interesting synergies. I cant wait to use glyph of tides with traps and combo fields.

Omg! Im a Roleplayer as well! I actually cannot wait to RP as a Druid. Im going to write out my bio for my main asap! We should RP sometime!

Mercurias, if you or anyone else comes up with a build that can dish out sufficient damage as a druid, I will most likely at least try it out.

Something else to keep in mind is that the druid will not be wanted by anyone in the core game or open world pve. From what I am hearing, it’s only use is in raids. If this turns out to be correct, then druid use will be greatly limited.

Well, we will see how it goes. Let us hope it is better than that.

Actually, during the BETA, I played with a Druid in a few dungeons, and other players loved how good it was with healing. Im not saying Druids will be needed for dungeons, but they def make it fun, some parts easier, and more enjoyable to run.

Specifically, in AC path 1, I kept hodgins alive, but just healing him. I was with a new group of players, not all lv 80, and we were able to finish the dungeon with ease. I really loved it, and it adds to the CORE PVE world, instead of reinventing it. I like that and dont mind. Im sure the hardcore ppl will always run Zerker in Core dungeons, but knowing a druid can be great help on the support side for dungeon players or frac players, is nice to see.

Lmao! Chaos Im sorry! You and Pyro are just going to have to live the beautiful Mesmer dream without me for now. While Mesmer will always remain one of my Favorite classes out of any MMO, on a personal level and gameplay level. Druid and healing magic is where my heart truly lies.

Druid offers something so beautiful, something so unique. Mesmer does as well. But its time to put down the lust for fashion, Illusions, and purple butterflies… And take up the healing mystical magics of the cosmos and nature! :P

That’s right, I could care less what others say negatively about the Druid. I happen to love it so much, Iam switching from being a Mesmer main for 3 years, to now a Druid main. In BWE3 I played the elite class, all weekend! I fell in love.

As much as I love the unique magics of Mesmers, I’ve always had a heart for healing magic, nature, and the cosmos. So while those that hate on the spec will continue their rants and rages, I’m going to look the other way, and take up my druid staff and began my new healing career.

I’m tired of the 3 year DPS Meta. I’m ready for something groundbreaking, something that changes and refreshes how to play the game, and Druid does that for me, because I love being a healer in MMOs. October 23rd cannot come soon enough! Iam proud to say I love the Druid, and I’m glad it exist!

Right now I’m doing all story dungeons + personal story on my ranger so he’s ready to be my main. Before druid this char was just for some lulz in WvW. It’s an awesome class and I will heal the kitten out of people in WvW and raids.

I already finished the personal story and the Living World strories. I’am now focused on getting all the HERO POINTS since I need 250 to unlock everything in the Druid Elite Class track. After I get 250 Hero points, then I’ll do all the story mode on dungeons, then I’ll work on crafting Ascended Clerics gear and weapons! I cant wait!

Pretty much a case of “characters knew it, but the player didn’t” and wasn’t properly revealed as such to players.

As Calcifire said, Priory knew it via “The Scroll of the Five True Gods” which is the Priory’s leading information on the Elder Dragons (as of S2, suddenly; previously it was dwarven legends and ancient tomes like the Tome of Rubicon, or jotun stelae).

Hmm well hopefully ANET doesn’t mess something like that up again. Where did the “Scroll of the Five gods” come from? How does one find out the name of an elder dragon? I’ve heard plenty of Sylvari turned Mordrem utter his name during the BETA, and we all heard some of Zhaitans minions speak his name. Does one gain knowledge on the name of the Dragon they face through the dragon’s minions, who will speak its name? Or are there other methods to gaining the names?

I wonder how the Dwarves, the Jotun, and who ever wrote in the “Scroll Of The Five Gods” came to acquire the Dragon names listed. I wonder their method(s) on gaining such knowledge. Specifically Mordremoth.

Hello,

As I play through Living World Season 2, I cant help but realize that the player character knows the Plant and Mind dragon’s name already. I know a thread like this was posted a year ago, and a dev did say that as the PACT commander, who specializes in fighting dragons with the PACT organization, we already have knowledge on the name. But there is no info in game to confirm we know the name of Mordremoth prior to his awakening.

Lastly, I also found out there was some info datamined a year ago, before scarlet died, she would tell you the Plant and Mind Dragon’s name. But the cutscene was changed. My question is, do we have any updated new info on how the Name Mordremoth came to be? How does the PC know it?

Thanks OP. I hope Irenio realizes there are many others who enjoy being a healer finally in GW2. I literally played druid all weekend, and felt like gw2 was a new amazing game again, after 3 years of stale BEZERKER META. It truly revitalizes so much. Irenio you are my hero, please read this post because we support your every move.

Jus know that there should be some improvements on the druid, and it’s Celestial avatar state. Like spell 1 cosmic ray, and the second spell.

and where is the challenge in dungeon now that no one needs to watch their health and rarely use their heal skill??? this is gonna get boring soon.

Let me enlighten you a bit. I’ve played GW2 for 3 years… Im pretty TIRED of the BEZERKER DPS META that is finally changing. Please dont comment about how healing is going to get boring fast. It offers a whole new way to play dungeons, and interract with other players, other than STACK, STACK, STACK, DPS, DPS, DPS. Thats boring.

TO even think that Stack and DPS Meta that has been alive for 3 years is exciting, is beyond idiotic imo.

Yes it is,

While there should be some upgrades, like better healing options on the staff in order to generate Celestial force better, overall the Druid is an amazing ELITE SPEC! Im sure much work has to be done before release of HOT, but I just want to make this post to combat the negative post popping up on the Ranger forums.

Irenio and all working on the druid, you have really done a great job so far. I hope to see some improved changes and what not based on constructive feedback, from the BWE3 Druid Feedback thread.

Once again, thank you, for such a much needed spec! Dungeons are so much fun, and I can literally keep my teams health up while they DPS. Iam now a DRUID MAIN! Woo hoo!

You are using rune of the dolyak.

I know it can get better. but this is for testing purpose in the beta.

In this forum are a lot of people that enjoy healer theme. With Dragonhunter can get so much better and also give so much support than the druid.
So i think is important to help them in this regard. It is not noise it’s something i discovered..

I disagree, with Cleric gear, and Monk runes, along with traits, the druid provides the best heals in the game IMO. With entering Cele form constantly, Iam able to keep my party’s health at max in dungeons with no issues.
