Well if you banned everyone who safespotted the p3 last boss by standing against the pillar where its cave-in doesn’t land, you wouldn’t have many players left.

It’s not a safespot. He can still damage you, it’s just the one cave-in attack that won’t hit.

Possible suggestions
a) Perhaps make Korga required, but make it so that if an elite gorilla is killed the corpses do not respawn. Currently, they always will respawn in either the same location or anywhere randomly throughout the area.
[snip]

Though I’m not against making Korga required to kill, I would insist on debugging him before doing so.
Usually we just run past that guy but lately we chose to give it a shot. Pulled him a short distance from where he initially stands (so we don’t have to deal with an army of elite gorillas all the time but only with a squad; I would estimate the ingame distance was about somewhat about 900 to 1200, depending on where that rampaging ape was moving during the fight. Still we were always in range of gorilla corpses, there was still an area of aprox. 2000 filled with corpses to both sides).
What happened? When he was down on ~5-10% health, he suddenly turned around, instantly becoming invulnearable, regenerating and moving back to his starting spot. Was our WTF moment for the evening.

It can and will happen if you lure him out of his aggro range (if he rushes beyond it, it still counts and he’ll reset).

What I’m guessing happened is that you were fighting him fairly far out, and he charged at somebody who ended up being in an inconvenient direction and ran himself out of range. If not, then I’m not sure :P

Just so everyone is aware, my guide won’t change (much) once the balance patch hits. That’s at least what I’m predicting. I modified the traits once again, because I disagreed with myself again:

Strength: 6 (V IX XI)
Arms: 5 (I X) – change I to V if you’re in a group!
Defense: 0
Tactics: 0
Discipline: 3 (VI)

After loads of further testing, arms I is definitely best with 5 in arms in a solo setting, assuming full berserker. Especially with the soon-to-come balance patch where we’re getting our signet of rage nerfed, we won’t have as high of fury uptime (5 seconds less of it). Therefore, you want all the precision you can get.

Don’t safespot. It is indeed against the rules. There’s a very low chance you’ll be caught for it but if you do, you’re almost guaranteed of being banned if the GM notices it. I’m guessing they probably were going through really fast just to make sure you weren’t under the map or something like that.

I hope they start checking Arah instances too and ban all of the idiots that skip Lupicus

I want to add something else.

Please don’t “fix” the plethora of jumping puzzles by adding more invisible walls. That is not the answer! The amount of ways that I know to travel around Arah make it pretty obvious that it wouldn’t do anything other than force others to use another method.

Forget the invisible walls. They aren’t actually fixing the problem, which is that bosses are skippable.

If you want to prevent people from skipping Lupicus, then make his death/the pantheon waypoint required in order to proceed to the next segment of the path. The same goes with everything else— everything in paths 3 and 4 before the light orbs are skippable so my suggestion to fix this is to have the lights only activate/trigger at the same time the door is opened (the door after mage crusher dies in P3 and after Farnaz (Lyssa) in P4).

These two solutions would prevent literally every boss from being skipped in Arah!

Lupi gets his own post.

-The aoe indicator for his rapid fire/frenzied blast attack on phase 3 is fairly inaccurate.

I thought it was Phase two with the barrage of AOE attacks where the AOE indicator is really inaccurate and the attacks hit outside of the aoe indicators.

In phase 2 it only seems inaccurate, but projectiles can hit you in mid-flight. This is a huge pain and I’d like projectiles to be more visible, but it’s not a bug.
For the Frenzied Blast however, dodge behind Lupi, stay behind directly behind the AoE-Indicator, still eat damage. This problem is prevalent in the whole game und should be a high priority fix.

Precisely. It’s also why I always use lifesteal on crit food if off-wall soloing, because it’s essentially impossible to not take damage at all with my high latency even if I evade through him instantly. It’s a consequence of not only being on wireless, but I play on EU yet live in the states.

To put it into perspective, I’m not used to having ping lower than ~270-300.

Lupi gets his own post.

Giganticus Lupicus:

-Resets to full hp when inadvertently pushed into a door exit

-If he shadowsteps to someone on the wall, he’ll do weird crap like this: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rd-4iNSc2Uc

-He can be instantly 1-shot during phase 2 if a reflection skill is used at the very source of where they originate. This is done by pushing Lupicus towards the wall and either using ground targeting skills on top of the wall (and therefore on Lupi), or if a player with reflect skills is standing on top of the wall and timing a reflect at the right instant. This is not a bug, but it’s obviously unintended. Video of this happening: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xYbEgdpOBVo

-Various terrain throughout the arena causes him to bug, resulting in his ranged attacks on phases 2 and 3 to occasionally hit even if standing directly beneath him and sometimes in rare cases he’ll even use his bubble/trap attack while directly beneath him!

-In phase 3 he sometimes runs away and bubbles… he isn’t supposed to do that. Example of it happening: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cPtf7kflZps

-The aoe indicator for his rapid fire/frenzied blast attack on phase 3 is fairly inaccurate.

Extra suggestion for Arah P1:

I think that the path ending is too lackluster once Lupicus is killed. Either Korga needs to become mandatory for the last encounter to trigger or the last encounter itself needs to be changed, because there’s no reason why this path should have so much less happening in it than the others.
Possible suggestions
a) Perhaps make Korga required, but make it so that if an elite gorilla is killed the corpses do not respawn. Currently, they always will respawn in either the same location or anywhere randomly throughout the area.
b) Perhaps give Jotun Skygazer a few extra attacks, for example a kick when in melee range that does heavy damage and a knockback. Also I think that the two spawned crystals in the room with the spiders should not respawn, encouraging players to make use of reflects/active cc/blocks. He should also do his lava font attack more frequently to increase the pressure.

Path 3:
-All of the encounters preceding the light orbs + Lupicus can be skipped.

-All of the mobs at the start of the path (including the 4 silver mobs at the gate) can be skipped if the players are standing at the gate entrance before the path is selected. This doesn’t seem like a bug, but it certainly seems that the gate guards were intended to be killed, as that’s typically how the door is opened.

-Wraithlord Crusher and Hunter don’t always reset to their original locations when pulled towards the entrance.

-The NPC (Warden Illyra) can be killed by the spiders during the part where she retrieves the chicken from the cage on the way to the altar of Glaust. This is understandable, but after reviving her she gets stuck. The only way to fix her is to lure mobs around her and she’ll begin attacking them, resulting in her unfreezing.

-The elite wraiths in the ending ritual very frequently will go invulnerable and reset while kiting them around unless the person basically stays in the middle of the area. I’m fairly confident that this is unintended, as it is very awkward and unrealistic for mobs to have such a small aggro range in games.

-The Wraithlord can go invulnerable in certain places too. Video of it happening: http://www.twitch.tv/purpleishawt/c/4558601

Path 4:
-All of the encounters preceding the light orbs + Lupicus can be skipped.

-Kaiser (Balthazar) and Farnaz (Lyssa) can be bugged by repeatedly striking them as soon as they spawn, resulting in them getting stuck in their taunting animations.

-When fighting Farnaz (Lyssa), the confusion stacks are sometimes instantly applied when the clones first appear if one of the clones is damaged enough to be destroyed before they are shattered. I’m confident this is unintended and the confusion stacks are only meant to be applied once she shatters her clones, rather than before and after.

-Simin (Dwayna) can be bugged by aggroing her and running behind certain objects (a specific rock on the left-side upon entering the area is most frequently used for this) before she has a chance to attack. She will quickly unfreeze if she isn’t attacked for a certain amount of time or if she is cced.

-The sparks that spawn during the Simin (Dwayna) encounter when she goes into hiding will frequently bug and will reset if the person they are targeting is currently being attacked by 2 or more enemies (i.e. already 2 sparks on them).

-The last encounter with the Bloodstone Shard — the shard can be held at 1% by simply running out of its aggro range. This is a design flaw, as the shard is rooted and obviously needs to have a limited aggro range. My suggestion is that if the shard is unable to attack/is obstructed for longer than 10 seconds, it should begin resetting.

Purple Miku.7032

Path 1:
-Varra Skylark is the only dungeon NPC in the game that frequently attacks trash mobs without a player engaging in combat or the mobs aggroing to begin with. Her AI is severely flawed.

-Korga frequently gets stuck on terrain/in the walls after rushing. He can frequently bug after getting himself out, resulting in his movement speed being doubled.

Path 2:
-Belka’s cutscene sometimes won’t start. I used to think it was because of the NPC not being nearby for the cutscene, but I’ve recently had it happen with the NPC standing right next to me so now I’m not entirely sure what causes it.

-Belka’s electrical orbs have very very inaccurate aoe range indicators. Please fix them. A player can be over 600 range away from where an orb lands and still sometimes get hit from it.

-Belka will stop teleporting if everyone in the party runs behind the bone wall by the entrance after engaging her. She will not lose aggro immediately, so she will only partially reset instead of fully reset. Waiting long enough results in her fully resetting.

-Berserker Abomination’s jump attack can sometimes bug; either the animation for it can sometimes delay or the damage/cc from it can sometimes hit early. The result is basically the players within the area being hit from the attack right as he’s first jumping into the air, which is obviously inaccurate.

-Alphard is a very buggy boss and deserves her own mini-list:
a) Sometimes goes invulnerable and resets while kiting her around the boxes. Video of this happening: http://www.twitch.tv/purpleishawt/c/3857894
b) If she is interrupted the exact moment she’s about to teleport to the middle to begin her daggerstorm or goes invulnerable (from the first bug mentioned above) as she’s about to, she’ll immediately begin daggerstorming in place without resetting to the center. Video of this happening: http://www.twitch.tv/purpleishawt/c/3958251
c) If anyone in the party is not at Alphard (behind the bone wall), she will instantly reset to full HP sometimes. I believe this might be because she wants to target them. This only happens when someone isn’t at Alphard yet is in the party. Sadly I don’t have a video demonstrating this right now.

-Brie’s cutscene sometimes won’t start either, resulting in the entire path being lost. In both cases, it has something to do with the NPC.

-Brie can be held at low health by intentionally downing by the trash mobs that attack the terminal right before it is destroyed, which will avoid the teleport and thereby enable the downed player to rally off of a grub and stand out of Brie’s aggro range. While this isn’t a bug, it’s certainly unintended and overlooked.

Purple Miku.7032

I was told a few months ago that defiant stance on phase 3 doesn’t prevent him from healing off of you despite it healing you during his leeching attacks. I found this odd but nobody I asked at the time really knew so I just avoided it. Since his HP bar doesn’t really move at all I wasn’t really able to accurately test it.

I’m assuming that this is false based off of some of your responses… as it wouldn’t make sense for you guys to advocate its use here if what I was told was actually true :P

So it is probably the best overall heal to use when doing off-wall casual solos. If ever going for a speed kill, I’d never use it because it’s not instant cast and interrupts attacks. This is simply disruptive, though it’s pretty obvious that it heals more over time than signet does. Ideally you shouldn’t be taking damage at all though, so… doesn’t really matter.

In either case, I don’t really see the point in bothering. The only times I ever have problems on Lupi is when he either bugs on terrain and bubbles me when I’m 100bing him from directly beneath him (so… freaking… annoying…) or just straight up terrible RNG on phase 2>3 transition (you would be shocked to see how common it is for 4-5 aoes to simultaneously pile up on top of me and 1-shot me from full hp on the transition). Defiant stance is not useful if you can’t predict when you’re about to take damage, so meh.

Communicating with you

Purple Miku.7032

Thanks for actually interacting with us, Chris Whiteside. You really are the only glimmer of hope most of us have of getting our messages / thoughts heard. We all feel so desperate for Arenanet’s attention that it’s truly wonderful to be able to communicate with you.

I really really think that there is a huge wasted opportunity with Arenanet’s decision to avoid implementation of new dungeons. This new LS season is the perfect window of opportunity to add an entirely new dungeon with a unique theme and unique mobs with unique bosses with unique mechanics. I can literally imagine how I’d create it. A dungeon in the Maguuma Wastes would be so so so so so freakin’ amazing. I absolutely guarantee you that the vast majority of the playerbase would be thrilled for content of this nature.

Any doubts you or anyone else working at Arenanet might have will be shattered if you ever release one of those in-game polls like a poster on one of the previous pages suggested.

The amount of people disappointed with the lack of higher-end content with replay value is pretty astounding. This game has been very competitive with the supergiant WoW in the past few years, which actually became as popular as it did primarily because of content of this nature. GW2 has the best combat system I’ve ever ever seen, so to shy out of taking advantage of the stage you’ve set and not acting on this amazing potential that you all have is just painful and frustrating!

Prove us all wrong. I ranted a bit here and I’m sorry for that, but as I stated earlier you’re the only way most of us can communicate with how we feel. I wouldn’t bother posting this if I didn’t care and want the best for GW2.

Here’s the “instance owner left!” post for the week….

As to “why?”, it’s not in their interests to fix it, or even do a simple work around (unkickable instance owners anyone?).

It’s easier to accept the poor support for this game once you just accept that GW2 is in the “Cash Grab” stage of its life and that paying developers to do maintenance doesn’t really help their bottom line at all.

If you need proof, check out this google query.

Dang.

Despite the fact that we all know what you say is true, reading this still was… :o

Basically you did a good job at sinking it in to my head that I should never anticipate positive changes for existing content in the game. Purple Miku.7032

It’s happened to me plenty of times. It’s when she gets interrupted right when she’s about to teleport. It can also happen when she goes invulnerable as well.

Sometimes when kiting her around, she bugs out just as other bosses do when they’re inadvertently pushed/move into or past an invisible wall and thereby losing sight of their targets. When this happens they just go invulnerable and reset to their original location. For some reason this can occasionally happen to Alphard around the barriers and if it inconveniently happens right as she’s about to begin the attack, it’ll interrupt the teleport but not the daggerstorm attack. So as a result, she’ll just do it in place.

Like I said, CM is only a disaster of a dungeon for people that don’t know it… but same can be said about just about all dungeons. Well, yeah. You’re kind of asking for it if you sell without placeholders… it’s like a bullseye target. In my opinion the only people that deserve it to happen are the people that bug bosses/skip bosses, but griefers are sometimes too much of cro-magnons to bother checking if the person selling is legit.

In any case, if you aren’t willing to put forth the effort into protecting your instance, shouldn’t complain about losing it (not that you are, just generally speaking). That’s what I mean to say.

I’ve been kicked before while trying to sell back when I was relatively new to it. Once it happened the second time, I never attempted to sell without placeholders since. It’s just not worth it, should always ask for help in that area!

Selling paths can be the most time consuming thing. I’ve waited up to an hour before when I’ve sold P1 and I wasn’t even asking for a high price. There’s also the risk of getting your instance destroyed from jerks lately that is leading people to take fillers and proxies again which slows down the selling even more. Pug groups fill up fast, that’s why you always see the selling groups on the lfg more than the pugs.

Selling P1 used to be something I’d do so, so often. For months I’d be able to sell it at any time of the day at 7g each with no competition. It was genuinely way faster gold/hour than duoing P4 was. Even people that exploited P4 (skipped and/or bugged bosses) to sell were still making noticeably slower gold/hour.

It was close to around when the waypoint for tar got fixed that P1 quickly became terrible to sell.

So we agree 200k DPS nullifies the need for Aegis and anything defense related

To Colesy, let’s not extrapolate shall we?

More like basic enemy AI/encounters nullifies the need for anything defense-related. Even with this same DPS, groups still would fail against bosses like Mossman, Archdiviner, Captain Ashym, Shaman+Ettin (sorta), etc.

Arguably their higher HP has a lot to do with it, but Archdiviner is probably one of the best boss encounters there is on GW2 and to be able to FGS him properly requires quite a few defense-related skills to pull off. But you know this, so you should also know that the weapon really isn’t the problem.

Dungeons are too basic and whether or not groups are using FGS, all-out offense is still the way to go. Removing FGS from dungeons hardly changes anything other than the length of time it takes, so I’m really not sure what will make watching a record attempt more interesting without FGS. Nothing is going to change besides the overall time. If you’re watching a record attempt then obviously you aren’t going to see boss fights littered with messups like a lot of people on here seem to be anticipating.

So erm, you’re implying that hitting high damage isn’t fun. I’m not sure how doing lower damage equates to having more fun. These guys aren’t going to find this dungeon challenging regardless of what they choose to do, so 200k DPS or not that seems pretty irrelevant.

CM was pretty brutal before ferocity if you didn’t have reflects/stealth. In bad teams, it’s a pretty ugly dungeon to be in because of all the trash mobs.

You seem confused.

But is GW2 all about dps?
The answer should and must be: NO

The answer to that question is actually yes. Use a GS please.

Yea… great way to show that you want build diversity in this game, bruh.

You and many others don’t seem to understand that there’s literally no other option with the instanced group content on this game than to go full-out DPS, which is why most people will shun you. You can either make your own parties with the LFG or people that play like you, but don’t expect other people to waste their own time putting up with people using “PHIW” builds because it really isn’t fair.

People like me, who have had literally nothing to do on this game other than repeatedly run the exact same paths for well over a year, don’t care about anything other than getting the paths over with, going for the fastest possible times (team records), soloing for the sake of other arbitrary goalsets (personal best times and/or selling), or laughing.

The veteran PvE players don’t have interest in doing dungeon runs with people using crappy setups. All of the people that have been around for long know what’s best and what’s worst and it’s painful (laughable) to watch warriors using hammers/rifles in dungeons.

You have the choice of being either laughed at, kicked, not using something utterly foolish, or picking your own parties.

For me personally I just don’t join groups with people using terrible setups. I’d rather not waste my own time.

If people would take decent care of their machines DDOS wouldn’t happen.

Don’t let your machine become infected with viruses and become a zombie. And fix your Mothers machine while you’re at it, it’s probably already a zombie.

Support ISPs that block infected machines from flooding the net.

A DDoS attack has absolutely nothing to do with viruses. Basically some idiot in his mother’s basement takes it upon himself to use a program to bombard the servers with information till the server can’t handle anymore, which will cause said server to crash. There is no way to block it or prepare for it.

What you’re mistaking is a DoS attack with a DDoS attack. A DoS attack is exactly what you described; some tryhard probably rented access to a shell booter and thinks he’s cool knocking people off for 5 minutes max or whatever. A distributed denial of service attack typically involves a botnet (hundreds/thousands of infected host computers used).

I’m not sure it’s even possible to completely fullproof Anet’s servers or anyone’s against DDOS attacks.

It’s not.

No matter how powerful/sophisticated of DDoS protection a router has, if it’s flooded with packets it will delay.

Arah is one of the most run dungeons in the game. Beware it is also one of the only dungeons to actually be a challenge (while ironically being simultaneously easy to solo).

You gotta learn tactics for bosses like Lupicus.

Dude, I have a teaching tour on the weekends. All paths. There are people waiting in the wings for it. Believe me, people run it w/o selling. All the time. The lfgs fill instantly, which is why you don’t see them.

Oh I know people still run the dungeon, but dungeon sellers are far far more common than they used to be, and the vast majority of LFGs want experienced members that will melee lupicus. It is much harder to find a group willing to take a beginner.

It’s great that you do teaching runs. I’d love to see more people do the dungeon instead of just buying the tokens. I also think part of the reason people are wanting to go with you so much is because you’re known on the forums and are a member of a well known guild.

1) True, there are a hell of a lot people selling now. The money making method is effectively ruined to the point of it not really being worthwhile anymore unless you sell at the perfect time of the day/night when you don’t have competition.

2) Vast majority of the LFG posts are people that don’t know what they’re doing and expect to be carried by either a mesmer or a guard for phase 2. Just about every time I’ve joined an LFG that said “melee lupi” the people in it were total nubs.

3) You’re right about it being difficult to find groups tolerant of beginners (at times) but it isn’t tough to make your own LFG for it nor is this an Arah-exclusive issue. It happens everywhere, not just here.

The stances are defensive utilities, seems logical for them to be in the defense tree to me.

What's the point of nerfing elementalist?

The skill isn’t the problem, the designs of the encounters are.

Oops, I did phrase that wrong. I indeed meant overall DPS with FGS, not just for the rush like I stated. Sorry.

Yes the [rT] is for Retaliate, and yeah as for Wintersun— I used to like two of their songs a lot. A very very very long time ago I made my own note charts for guitar hero (customs). I would play Death and the Healing and I was in the midst of a Beyond the Dark Sun custom too but I gave up because I lost interest in the game long ago. Trying to remember how long ago that was… so so long ago :P

I also think the gold rewards aren’t well-balanced. I think a lot of others here too feel this way but don’t bother talking about it anymore because most of us know that if Arenanet does change it, they’ll probably just replace the gold rewards at the end with invisible walls, dredge, or unblockable projectiles.
