You serious? Staff is viable and has it’s uses but you cannot defeat any remotely decent D/D users with it.

I’m almost convinced that this is a troll thread because of the PVT / healing accesories mention.

The gear rounds me out, I’m still packing quite a bit of power though and I outheal incoming D/D damage so… yeah, D/D hasn’t been much of a problem for me. Biggest pain in my kitten is perma-stealth thieves.

IMO the only way around that is a good initial block and then having the dmg to burst them down. Beyond that, no amount of healing power is going to help you out. I’ve had good luck with the following combo: arcane shield, lava font, arcane blast(combined with a Fire sigil has a guaranteed 30% proc chance), flame burst, and maybe an auto or two. If the thief is dumb they will stand and tank it, usually resulting in a dead thief. If they are smart, they will still take some dmg, which should allow you enough time to setup an aoe or perhaps regroup with your party. Either way, thieves are probably the least of my worries in WvW(bunker D/D eles or Rangers are probably the most annoying due to mobility/roots respectively).

Anyone who knows how to strafe is going to avoid most of your damage.

On the autos, yes. Which again is why I never rely on autos.

Please tell me then what other abilities you are using that doesn’t have a long cast or a long activation delay?

Smartcast ground targeting ftw. No doubt staff casting animation can be exploited by a very competent player, but I find this to be the exception and not the rule in actual practice… I also have a good sense of opponent trajectory and have a pretty easy time lighting them up on the run.

Yeah…I’m sure everyone knows about smart cast ground targeting. That isn’t the issue.

Let’s talk about why you’ll have a near impossible time against d/d…the cast time on staff abilities is just plain dumb.

What’s this long casting animation? I’ll just run right through you and put your ability on a gcd…

I stopped playing d/d and s/d with the huge influx of new ele’s playing it and have converted to staff and s/f or d/f. Playing a non-bunker staff build is VERY fun, but also very short lived.

Now don’t get me wrong…in a team fight I use a power staff/conjure build, you can completely obliterate an entire team on a node before being noticed.

Straight answer on preliminary patch notes?

Yes and no one understands why they’re the only company who has issues with localizing notes or blogs. All the other companies out there release information on a more regular basis.

Spoke to someone at Anet…the answer is they don’t want to have to change the patch notes if they decide to remove something and on top of that it takes a “long” time to get the notes localized…Imagine that, they’re the only MMO on the market that has a problem localizing notes.

This guys got it right. I shouldn’t have to pay to duel and I shouldn’t have to use my SPvP char for it either. I have a nicely geared and well made PvE char ready and waiting on use.

I totally agree , Duelings should be in open world.. For example im doing PvE with a friend ,then we want to have a duel , why would we have to go to sPVP to duel ?

im not an elite player but i haved moved back to rift for good about 3 weeks ago. just no reason to play, nothing to strive for as a solo player and it’s just not fun enough to play same mode over and over. Rift gives me massive customization options with the soul system and lots of maps/styles. Not to mention the devs are actually showing some interest in pvp and really tweaking to make warfronts fun/balanced.

You went back to a game that has done even LESS than this one?

It happens alot when using an ability and weapon swapping. It might have to do with the animation glitch. You can reproduce this very easily.

I “could” at some point spend more money towards this game. But seriously, when I noticed that condition damage didn’t show up in the log I had to do a triple take, making sure I wasn’t just blind. I don’t know how many times I go to look at the combat log to figure out what killed me (you know, an attempt to learn something), add up the damage done, and scratch my head because the damage done totals less than my health.

Too much to ask…you need to fraps everything and then replay it and grab a calculator.

I agree that there should be some point incentive to defending nodes. Even in WoW there was always the “never be the last person to leave a node” rule. It’s EXTREMELY rare to see someone in sPvP standing on a node by themselves or even calling out incomings. Everyone just runs in a large circle capping points and chasing stragglers. 90% of the time teams are just getting free points from side nodes because everyone’s zerging mid and no one bothers to go and cap the undefended nodes.

No one stands on a point to defend, because when you call out an inc…no one shows up.

The problem with spvp for many of us pvers and wvwvwers is that it feels detached from the game… those exotic skins you worked hard for? Gone. That careful stat planning? Gone. Your racial abilities? Gone. It sacrifices a lot of things for the sake of “balance” and frankly I dont think it works given how unpopular hotm is.

Yes the new map may look fun, but still I dont feel like I am playing my hero character.. I get this lame outfit and I cant customize my stats the way they are in wvwvw.

They may chose to continue to create new maps, but the core problem will still exist. I would probably be more willing to try spvp if I could at least import my exotic skins and stats from wvwvw.

I don’t see a problem with allowing skins, but why do you need “your” stats?

Not to take away from your victory, but there’s no way you can tell me that Mist Form was smart with a straight face. You immobilized him and then did a dodge roll backwards. Is that how you usually set up your burst? By immobilizing and dodge rolling away?

Why would he Mist Form with that large a gap between you and him and the fact that you dodged away, widening the gap.

Let’s call a bad decision what it is, please.

+1 for a big nerf on dd ele

can some1 give me a non ele build that has:
- great mobility
- great healing
- great condition removals
- great boon stacking
- that can take on 2 people and probebly still get away “if” it goes bad
- that has aoe’s for stun / conditions / burst / heal
- that has shields that stun/ freez attackers
- has stun breakers
- has "ow kitten skills " like mistform
- has cooldowns that recharge faster then the skill chain they can do
- that can compete as a bunker / point holder

wonder who will be able to find 1 that isnt an ele build
if no1 can give me a build that has all this ,
then i asume evry1 saying ele’s are fine are ……………………….. , wel be creative and fill it in yourself seeing you probably can talk allot of nonsense already ( and no curse words to keep it challenging ofc )

No, saying d/d is a very broad term. There are bunker eles and there are sustained. Not one build gets to do all of what you described.

That’s by design. Meteor shower is a unique large imprecise aoe not designed to be used against normal targets, but against very large targets or large groups of targets. Bursting Someone down with meteor shower makes very little sense.

It doesn’t serve the purpose you’re stating. You can drop it on a node and it won’t hit anyone more than once. So if it isn’t for point control, what is it for? Oh did I mention the cast time on it?

It’s for getting large targets or large groups. And how many people do you know stand still in the fire once it starts? Most I’ve seen move out of it, and thus get hit by more than one.

When you’re fighting for node control, you can have 2-3 people on the node. It doesn’t act as a deterent, because you rarely get hit more than once while remaining static. In fact, you’re more like to get hit more than once when backing off the node thinking you are going to get hit than you are actually getting hit.

nobody wants to play this kind of pvp, if anet was going to do an outreach program there needs to be someone to outreach

there’s a dam good reason why tournament ques never pop and there are only 10 active ten servers up out of a list of hundreds, domination is arguably the worst game mode for mmo pvp because it emphasizes role based gameplay, something arenanet said would not happen, they use this as a tool to disregard responsibility towards real balance issues so everyone stays the way they want them too, even if that isn’t balanced

they had a perfectly good reason in SOTG of why this is the only game mode. a death match in this game wouldnt be good because teams would wait until full elites.

what other game type would you want.? i agree with keeping this game mode then adding new objectives in it. like they are adding the orb into it that basically makes a new game mode.

I’ve been playing ShootMania and they have a gametype called ‘Battle’.

In battle each team has 2-3 points. (4-6 points total per map think of them like GW2 nodes).

When the round starts, a player must reach a center circle first, when they do, their team gets to go on the ‘Attack’ and the other team is on the ‘Defense’.

If the attacking team is held off an enemy point for 15 seconds, the defending team gets to attack. But if the attacking team gets on a point, the 15 second timer is reset to 15 seconds.

This flips back and forth until either the match timer runs out or until one team captures all 2-3 enemy points.

I think that kind of gamemode would lend itself really well to sPvP and its been an intense gamemode when playing it in ShootMania.

That sounds fun and easily supported in gw2’s current form. Make it happen!

If a game loses momentum early on it becomes increasingly difficult for them to get their playerbase back.

GW2 sPvP lost its momentum roughly 3-4 months ago. A lot of people have quit or barely play. I myself have moved on to greener pastures and log an equivalent 10 minutes of GW2 time a day, maybe less.

ArenaNet should take notes from Nadeo and their ShootMania series for how they developed the game with competitiveness in mind and decided to not release the game until every piece of the puzzle had been completed.

TLDR:
Low population (lets just say 2,500 and be generous, across all countries).
Little amount of playable modes.
No legitimate ranking system besides time invested.
Lack of variety in class mechanics.

= game on its last legs. I just want people to admit it so we can get past the rose tinted glasses.

I think alot would agree; however the pvp is still some of the best out there. The shame of it all will be that this game will never realize its potential.

Personally, I consider the PvP to the bottom rank among the top tier.

GW2 is to Captain Falcon of SSBM.

I’d like to know from aNet if it’s intended or not.

What do you mean by that? You can Mind Wrack without clones, just like you can CoF, Diversion and Distortion. Whether that is actually balanced is another question.

It also does seem odd that Distortion is an invul classified as evade, but still gives the invul message, when being attacked. A mesmer can basically invul their way through a lot of punishment without ever having their point decap because of that.

If we take a look at illusionary persona description, it says “SHATTERING YOUR ILLUSIONS reproduces the shattering effect on you as well”.

Basically, if you don’t have any illusion up, you shouldn’t be able to reproduce any shatter effect.

According to the description, it’s a bug. A gamebreaking one.

@med you’re actually correct, didnt notice I got hit by the c&d untill I rewatched it!

My solution of just dazing before the distortion end would still counter this!

Some people took this as me saying I wanted the thief nerfed which was not the point I wanted to make. The other thing was that I was only oneshot (12k+2,5k sigil) because of this build

I was pretty kitten tired when I wrote the previous stuff so sorry about making you misunderstand c;

Personally i want the mesmer nerfed because being able to use distortion without a clone up not only doesn’t make any sense, but can also be gamebreaking, since you could be able to counter a 100-0 burst with a mesmer mechanic flaw.

Note that also being able to backstab endlessly iwithout destealthing if the target is invulnerable doesn’t make any sense, and should not happen.

But still less gamebreaking than a free 1sec invulnerability.

I am confused a bit in pvp with my ele, i cannot seem to win 1v1 vs anyone except another ele. I die in about 3-4 hits and my damage seems to be so incredibly low and my healing barely noticeable. I use d/d and s/d equally and i’ve went 10/0/30/30/0 just to see if i survive much longer and i honestly don’t, i’ve went full dps and it still wasn’t enough to kill someone 1v1.

Need some tips on rotation or build, what to do vs every single profession. I only started playing this about 2 weeks ago but all i’ve been doing most of the time is pvp, if i go full tank i can’t get close to killing anyone and i still die fast, full dps still doesn’t kill 1v1 vs everything else and atm i’ve got 20/10/30/0/10 just to see how it does with semi dps/tank, still die in about 3 hits lol.

I use signet of restoration/earth/fire and armor of earth, glyph of elementals for elite. I use earth to lock down into dragon’s too -> fire grab -> signet of fire then go in with ride the lightning and go on from there, but it just seems that as i soon as i stop my burst they heal back to full no matter what the profession and just turn around and pewpew i’m dead =/

Just did another few pvp matches just to be solo’d by thiefs that just 2 shot me up close and ranged (they out dmg me at ranged..) not to mention them healing stupid amounts, i really want to enjoy pvp with my ele but atm i just feel like quitting the game right now lol, i got away from wow because pvp sucked extremely bad just to come into this and be solo’d 24/7 by every profession except ele.

The two most common builds in tpvp are:

d/d-0/10/0/30/30-signet of restoration: Mist Form, Lightning Flash, and Arcane Wave with Glyph of Elementals

or

s/d 0/20/0/20/30: Mist Form, Arcane Wave, and Arcane Blast with Glyph of Elementals

Both use Valks Amulet with Berserker Jewel and Runes of the Scholar

If you have only been playing for 2 weeks the best advice is to give it time. Also, you can run the same set up using a Soldier’s Amulet until you get used to fighting the other professions.

Meh, mesmer burst is really limited since we have to worry about terrain to get leap off. Im more worried when a mes DOESNT try a burst, usually means bunker but ive seen bunk builds do butt loads of damage… like loads of butts!
Thieves are true glass cannons, if i sneeze i can kill one as long as i avoid getting backstabbed off the bat.
Warriors can wreak havoc in crowds with hundred blades.
Props to all classes for having their own playstyle, each also has its drawbacks. Personally i like playing my mesmer… i feel like i am torturing people when they cant figure out which one i am and why this insane amount of damage is piling up. Hi-larious. Playing my thief i feel like its just “1 and a 5 and a ching chong potato” and its over.

You can use temporal curtain as a substitute for leap to get your burst off in those situations.

And the “nonsense” you speak of is the waste of space this thread is taking up.

Yes you do own you, and I do it a lot. We can test any time you like so you can realize what a nothing you are. You are quite a crappy player and all that is carrying you in team fights is the fact that, as necro, you can spam AOE.

I can kill asuras, that is not an issue so stop inventing crap. Problem is that asuras get unfair advantage compared to other models. The same player will be significantly more difficult to kill for certain builds/classes when the player is using asura as opposed to other models. That is the crux of the issue.

Even better example. GW2 signs a promotional contract with my little pony, and as a result you can have a pony as a playable race. The thing is all of the ponies actions are accompanied by a big explosion of hearts, sparkles, and rainbows, which inadvertently hide the pony in the lag-cloud and as a result, you cant tell what the ponies animations are, and you cant react to its attacks.

How is it unfair when you have the option of selecting a pony too?

That’s not unfair, because I could just select the pony…you answered your own question in the question.

Simple unbelievable what a bunch of clueless and illiterate ppl play in this comunity. Makes me not want to write post on the forum ever again. I completely understand ppl who left the game, where is the challenge killing such ppl.

Clueless group #1: People who say how they are against banning characters/races.

Answer: Read the title again. Noone ever suggested that some character, or “character of some race” should get ‘banned’ in spvp. Verb banning refers to MODELS.
It is very simple to do, we already look differently in spvp
So, noone every suggested anyone gets banned, stop discussing irrelevant kitten. Learn to read.
As I said before, making them sufficiently big that there is no ambiguity which way they are facing is fine as well. Make them human size (or larger if necessary due to them being so ball-like).


Clueless guys #2 discussing class balance: Example:
urinfamousr.7631: i think having a class that can go invis is unfair , doing spike dmg while no one can see u is unfair, being able to land bleeds while invul and invis is beyond unfair. ur post is just silly. i think thieves should be banned from spvp.

Answer:
This guy does not realize that this is not a topic about balance of thieves.
He also does not realize that gaining stealth (picking thief) carries with it certain tradeoffs (squishiness, single target dmg, etc). So if you think thief stealth is unbalanced go make a topic and ask devs to balance them. This is not place to mention it.


Clueless guys #3 suggesting that we jsut need cast bar:

No, that will not solve the problem, i still do not know which way player is facing to backstab properly.


Clueless guy #4 suggesting that “since everyone has the choice to be small speck, it is ok”.

Example: Pyrial.2917:
Everyone has the option of running an Asura, it’s your choice not to.

Answer: So imagine we all can be super small specks with just red name tag above us, you cannot tell if we are dodging, doing 100b, which way we are facing, etc.
Two questions for you mr clueless:
1. Is that good for the game, to completely destroy skill component that comes from reacting to opponent’s actions/animations????
2. Get a clue and realize that having an super small opponent does not affect everyone in the same way. d/d elementalist, or shatter mesmer care much less about it (and gain more out of it) since they do not care if they are hitting their enemy in the back or front. They just need to know that enemy is in their aoe range. Thief who is backstabbing a lot however is very dependent on getting in backstabs properly. So, even if everyone has the choice to be a speck, it is NOT ok, it is essentially nerf to certain builds/classes.


Clueless guy #5: But most animations are really obvious in game (ele churning earth, any Mesmer phantasm summon and a thief prepping basilisk venom!) the size here does not matter because even on the tiny so tiny asuras you can still see the animation. And if you can’t then you need glasses!!!!

Answer: That is an obvious lie. Many important animations are not obvious. With small asuras you have trouble telling when they are dodging, you have trouble telling which direction they face when they are on the move,…etc… especially true in team fights.

You’re the one having problems dodging 100b and you call me clueless…do everyone a favor and do what you suggested. STOP posting.

Your response, it’s your CHOICE to play as a Norn…

Thats right, norns have larger animations etc, that’s your choice if you want to play one competitively (i do). The difference is playing a norn puts everyone but yourself at a advantage, where as playing an asura puts everyone but yourself at a guaranteed disadvantage. Being in a position to put yourself at a disadvantage by choice is not a problem, as it only affects your ability to perform, but the opposite is obviously not fair.

Also, asura, being one of the extremes, should not be the standard for character model size and balance.

The “rules” as to which abilities work and which don’t seem very arbitrary. Is there really much functional different between a teleport and a “rush” ability? Why would Ride the Lightning be ok, but infiltrator’s arrow not? To me, the difference has always been style, rather than function. This may not have been the case back when teleports could actually teleport you places with no pathing, but when that ability was removed from teleport skills, they just became glorified “rush” abilities.

How does the map layout look? Is it a more vertical map, like Temple? If so, you can see the problem with teleports.
