If you’re pugging, why would you join tpvp as opposed to spvp? I thought the purpose for tpvp was to reward groups of coorindated play.

I already answered that. If tPvP is meant for groups, ArenaNet should remove the option to queue alone. Why else would it be there for? They seem to think it’s a PuGable environment when it really isn’t.

So what happens when you queue with only two people?
Three?
Four?

Are you solo or a group? Did it solve the issues of PUG’s vs Organized groups?

All you did was successfully increase queue times.

Partial groups are still identifiable because they queued as a group. However, because they will have PuGs, they’ll still be pitted against PuGs and not full premades. However, if I were ArenaNet I would match partial groups against other partial groups to the best I could.

I have won many games as a PuG against partial groups. Most cases you have 2 or 3 people queuing together, and it’s still possible to have victory.

They’ve already said, in other posts “why can’t I group with my friends”, that tpvp is for coordinated play. There shouldn’t be an expectation of walking in with no communicating AND being effective.

It’s true that the only casual sPvP mode tends to be hot-join. Grinding ranks through solo-queuing free tournaments will take forever, as you are unlikely to make it past Round 2 or Round 3 due to premades.

It’s quite funny that premades are even matched against PuGs in free tournaments. Shouldn’t tournaments be about skill? There is no skill in PuG stomping.

  • If you queue as a group you go into POOL A.
  • If you queue solo you go into POOL B.
  • People from POOL A are only matched against others in POOL A.
  • People from POOL B are only matched against others in POOL B.

Problem solved. Will queues be longer? Yes. They’ll also be worth it. I’d rather spend an extra 5-10 minutes waiting for a queue for a game that may end up giving me more glory and rank than losing a game I have no chance of winning.

The burnout for casual solo players such as myself is strong, because we only ever see 1 or 2 maps. Kyhlo pretty much doesn’t exist to me. You may argue tournaments are meant for grouping. If that’s the case they should remove solo-queuing from free tournaments.

Just wanted to jump in and say: posts that are well-written and constructive are a HUGE help. I realize that sometimes people get upset, and I honestly don’t mind strong language if someone is voicing an opinion different from my own. As long as both sides are passionate (which may lead to some strong points of view) but still OPEN to opposition, threads are a great way to come up with solutions.

And yes, I know that the reason you guys are SO strong in your posts is because you love the game and want it to improve. So while I may disagree with someone’s point of view, I can often still think, “Hey, this person is really enjoying the game, and they want it to be even better than it is. Due to this, they’ve gone to the forums to try and reach out to others in an effort to fix an issue they hold dear to their heart.”

And, to quote a brilliant thinker, Chris Rock, “Ain’t nothing wrong with that!”

How about more communication as to the direction of pvp balance? Sooner rather than later is the best approach. Or at least open the discussions, or participate in some of the discussions that are ongoing.

I agree with slimjim with warhorn hunters call. It bugs me casting this to not only get obstructed but stay obstructed if they LoS. It should hit them regardless, and blinding me or LoSing me shouldnt have any effect on it.

That doesn’t even make sense. So someone uses an ability to blind an ability and you want it to hit? If that is true, then let’s make all dodges and evades, not dodge and evade.

Turrets hit even if engineers are blinded, so do minions, clones, spirit weps, pretty much everything in this game. Hunters call calls a flock of birds to attack him, they shouldnt be connected to if I see them or am obstructed. Its not like it hits so hard that it needs that feature.

Just to clarify. Are you saying that if you are blinded or los and you cast the ability, you want it to go off? Or are you saying that after you’ve casted it, and someone runs los or then blinds you the damage is negated?

Done with paid tournies until guard block bug is fixed.

There’s outplaying them— and then there’s guards that are specced to have other things to grant them invuln on top of the block bug and it just gets insane with the amount of damage they can completely negate.

One person on a point that is completely specced tank SHOULD be able to hold on for longer than a person that is specced for DPS sure. But they SHOULDN’T be able to tank it indefinitely.

This is obviously all kicking a dead horse at this point though as devs have stated they are trying to fix it… it’s just crazy irritating in the mean time.

The short term, or in this case now long term fix would have been to disable the weapon until it was fixed.

Unbalance between dps and support make pvp not fun.

Why is it that every kitten game, defense never ever = offense. Why put values of armor in game when they mean practically NOTHING? I wanted to do a defensive guardian hoping I’d be very hard to kill but would have no output damage and of course not only am i not that hard to kill i can’t do and god kitten damage so why do you have armor in this game? Hell those bubbles mean pretty much nothing since most stuff goes right through.

Your build is obviously wrong or you’re playing it incorrectly.

Pets F2 skills make the pet run to the target before using.

i disagree with the OP. IF i have a target selected it should always go to attack the target when i press F2. if i want the ability to fire off next to me instead of running to the target then all i need to do is deselect a target, it takes less than a second to do it . the fact that half the abilities(F2) do not make it run towards the target is frustrating and annoying . it should always get within range before executing the ability. as far as the buff options deselcting the target is so easy and i think that if you do not have a target selected then the pet should use its ability where ever it is currently.

Deselecting doesn’t always work nor does having a target always work. It’s a frustration that’s built into the pet AI. The condition removal from the bear, whether you delselect a target or have one will always try to run to a target if you’ve been fighting someone. Trying to get a full stack of bleeds off of you and missing with such a long duration on the removal is annoying and ends up costing you skirmishes.

What you described as “brain lag” isn’t proven by the video. That’s based on the assumption that people must stop what they are attacking and be required to attack a thief when they see it. The whole premise behind that portion of the video doesn’t make sense. As to the rendering lag, it isn’t exclusive to 50+ Vs 50+ it happens ALL the time in small scale settings or 1 v 1. Look at any video people fight rogues in (in those settings) slow the rates down to when someone is hit with an ability and how long before they take damage does the thief appear.

I think you’re missing the point of the video though. He’s not disproving the rendering issue. Everybody knows it’s in there and it sucks. But if you watch the video, his point is that he’s not IN stealth outside of the first guy he hits with CnD. After he pops out about halfway up the hill, he is out of stealth for at least 4 or 5 seconds as he moves up the hill. He even starts attacking people on his way to the gate. The point of the ending scene is to show you just how many people in a zerg go all tunnel vision on the first red name they see while a Thief, not even in Stealth, can roll by and get away without taking much damage. It’s obvious that people SEE him out of Stealth just about 2 seconds after he pops out, because people start shooting at him from range. Anyway, that’s how I see it. Nothing is disproven on the Stealth bug, but it definitely shows that don’t always see or react to things that ARE visible.

He’s saying that he is disproving the stealth bug. It’s obvious that given tunnel vision in zergs people don’t see everything. However, given a 1 v 1 setting or small scale battles where you’re focusing on the rogue stealth issues are evident and it’s a broken mechanic. People going around saying it isn’t stealth lag but only brain lag are well, brain lagged themselves.

I’m not trying to discredit his video. The fact of the matter showing stealth from the perspective of a thief doesn’t show the rendering issue.

This isn’t an indictment as to your playing ability, but the end where you try to clarify the stealth lag issue is pure and utter bullkitten. There is a huge issue with rendering from stealth trying to disprove it by showing a video of people tunneling other people as proof to the contrary is assinine.

I dont know man. The editing is nice and all (although I dont know how choirs and jumping off a cliff fit into GW2 but whatever) but man. Back in the days of CS 1.6 and Day of Defeat, if such a montage (they were called fragmovies and had A LOT better editing than this one) was recorded on public servers, the creator would have been mocked to no end for that fact. And in my opinion, rightfully so. Nowadays, those movies dont show skill because we can not be certain that your opponents are skilled. Let alone coordinated, which is a HUGE HUGE part of high level guild wars 2.
I remember having GBs over GBs of excellent fragmovies, all worth watching because they displayed skill on the highest level of competetive gaming, with voicechat laid over the video in key moments, or having splitscreen action in a 2vX situation. I dont know man, I dont get why videos like this get praised so much around here.

Then by all means regale us with a video of your professional level of play. We may learn a thing or two.

You’re producing good damage and great control, plus all the ancillary benefits to stopping stomps and stomping.

Hey, I don’t mind if a warrior stops targeting me when I’m using it. That’s more damage and cc they take with no damage to me, so by all means.

There’s good reason that you never see that elite skill used in sPvP.

Here’s just a couple.
-You do less damage than just using your weapons.
-While you have a couple knockbacks, standard weapons like a Hammer also have them but provide much higher dps.

The only real benefit of it is 30 seconds of stability. But I wouldn’t take 30 seconds of stability at a loss of damage especially when many of the attacks are easily dodge-able in that form.

You have a ton of cc that you can chain with your other cc. It’s a better complimentary elite, imo.

I play spvp mostly solo, I don’t tend to follow the zerg so I get in plenty of 1 v 1’s or 1 v 2’s. It’s a very sturdy spec, but it isn’t dependent on the elite. However, when the elite is up, “it’s clobbering time!”

This is a spin off of the axe/mace and hammer build. You can really lock someone down completely from full with all cd’s up and even without all up it’s pretty versatile.

It also utilizes one of the most underused elites out there, but it’s huge in this build. It’s great for stomps or preventing stomps.

Anet is aiming for this to eventually become an e-sport. That means balance is centered around TPvP. The next time something ludicrous happens in a hot join, rather than running to the boards to cry, but take a deep breath and count to 10 – things that work with 8 unorganized lone wolfs are not the same as things that work against 5 coordinated players communicating via VoIP. I know this won’t do anything, but it had to be said.

In all the online games I’ve ever played, I’ve never seen kittening of this magnitude. Especially in a 2 month old game.

How about no? I reserve the right to write on the forums when I feel something may be out of balance. Your opinion on the matter doesn’t remove my right as a paying customer, no more than me telling you that you can only post complaints based only on spvp play (because more people play it).

I so love small maps and quick small group battles.

The ttk in this game and the overall model of breaking the holy trinity wouldn’t facilitate arena play or much else outside of conquest game play imho.

I can only speak to spvp, no tpvp experience. I’m surprised more people don’t play this spec, but axe/mace and hammer with the appropriate utilities is a perma cc fest. Probably one of the more effective builds out there, and by far one of the most frustrating to play against.

which PVP amulet do you use to have 10.8k hp? amulet means amulet+jewel.
the most burst damage amulet in mists is berserk berserf afaik. it gives you that 2.2k hp to go to 14095 hp. which is the BASE stat of every glass cannon thief .explain pls

Thieves in SPVP and Thieves outside SPVP are a bit different, I was explaining that outside SPVP Thieves only have a base of 10k HP, he said “His Thief” assuming he had a level 80 thief and not a level 1 he plays for SPVP has a base of 14k HP, I showed him he was wrong.

Rabid Set is a pretty good set actually, but not for the common thief.

Thieves have 10k HPS, not 14k HPS, to get 14k HPS they need Vitality.

Thieves “Backstab” combo is also on a long one minute timer, so is steal, and they must use both at once to take you out.

Hmmm…I play a bs thief I have 14k health. Not traited for vitality…

I think the only reason bunker stacking works is because the entire tournament is based on the same game mode. if each round was a different game mode and class/build was locked upon entering the tournament then people would have to be more thoughtful and diverse with their comps.

This game cannot support ctf, so that is out. Deathmatch? That’s the only thing left really.

@Ant, can you outline your game play? Perhaps we can give some tips on openers or mid fight to help you out. With combo fields and might stacking you should definitely be able to put out some serious pressure and if need be play defensively to regen health or reset your cd’s.

And to answer your question..watch your health. If he specced for stealth on steal he’ll use it first. Then back stab, then cloak and dagger followed by another back stab. That is how it is done. The way to get around that…dodge as soon as your health drops as they are going for the back stab which they have to maneuver around you to pull off. Don’t stand there. That is asking them to be able to pull off their move.

I just want to point out, that this is not the combo people are talking about…It’s Bas Venom, C/D, Steal, Signet, BS, and if they happen to be alive (they’re at least now still in place because of the immobilize talent) hs to finish them off.

Ride the lightening. Burning speed. Fire grab. Long as sin cast on e5, if your target is still in the area while you are quite obviously are casting this animation he deserves instant death. Drake breath being clunky, cast bar in melee on a class that is dependent on dodges when they’re available. Lightning seems like a damage/control attunement that lacks damage. (I see fire as aoe/dot and air as single target/direct dmg.)

Ele is fun as hell. But. It feels like an unfinished class.

I disagree, it feels more polished (outside of bugs) than the other professions.

I can only speak from the perspective of Spvp, but I’ve played every profession for a good amount of time. Ele is hands down the most fun profession and, traited correctly, you should have an even shot at 1 v 1 against anyone.

They need to relook at our traits to make other builds viable as well, not just earth/water/arcane..

Bug fixes first and a look at the ele downed state. Outside of that, ele’s are fine (specifically d/d and s/d). I haven’t played a staff bunker ele, so I cannot speak to that.
