Why is celestial time-gated?

Mayhaps I’m missing something, but time-gating this seems a little, pointless and “unfun
So why is this time-gated (via quartz crystal)?
The only purpose I can think of is that it was designed to test the time gating system on ascended items, which itself should only have been temporary anyways to prevent parts the community from getting ascended and leaving everyone else in the dust… all of which is fine, but kinda lame, and now long after… pointless.
So am I missing something or is there some ginormous reason as to why we can’t remove a pointless time-gate?

Even though they never confirmed it, I agree that it was a test run for ascended timegates. That being said, I see why certain items are timegated and I dont think they should remove it after a couple of months or a year.
And considering that Anet used charged quartz in more recipes since the introduction of celestial (grow lamp, charged ambrite) I dont think they will remove the time gate anytime soon.

^Best answer.

Oh I agree he’s right to, but I would like anet to actually consider rethinking the time-gate on this, or atleast find an alternate resource from which celestial can be crafted without a time-gate

Because it is so bad that they give you time to think over your crafting of it.

the problem isn’t that it’s a big inconvenience the problem is that it IS an inconvenience at all (a pointless one specifically)

One reason why timegates are in game is to add value to the time-gated crafting material. If you charge your daily crystal, you can sell it atm for a profit of 40-100s, if you take away the time-gate, it will influence those profits.

The charged item is account bound, thus nullifiying this arguement, but it does bring up an additional possibility, what if the crystals weren’t account bound (like their uncharged predecessors) that would create a new market, and gold sink.

Its basically a daily reward for people who log in every day.

Irrelevant

I dont know why Anet should change their game in order to cater for an audience that stops playing because it has to log in frequently.

*stop playing, because of restrictions which hinder their ability to… try new things… oh wait, that’s why traits were changed to be swappable…. for that very reason because that’s a sizeable chunk of their player-base people who like to experiment.. gw2 is and i quote “all about bringing down those walls”

In the past it had the same critical damage as an exotic berserker piece plus magic find. Meaning it was the best exotic piece stat wise and loot wise (for exotic at least), especially since the zerker mentallity was not as spread a now. So I think they added a gate to make sure that celestial gear would not become to easy to acquire.

Which itself no longer applies, which is why I’m asking, why is it STILL time-gated

It appears that the number of players logged per day is an important statistic for ArenaNet.

I don’t see that celestial crafting affects anything but a tiny tiny tiny portion of the population, to the point where I would suggest more people are tempted to give up the game and leave for other games because of the amount of time required to get exotics (not even ascended). Which is restrictive, and demotivating rather than as a positive thing that encourages players to stick around.

And considering that Anet used charged quartz in more recipes since the introduction of celestial (grow lamp, charged ambrite) I dont think they will remove the time gate anytime soon.

http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Grow_Lamp
Grow lamp looks like an item that was intended to be made once and thus time gate doesn’t matter
http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Sheet_of_Charged_Ambrite
Yet another restriction for exotic equipment, that prevents players from experimenting, and trying new things. (prevents players from getting sinister setups within reasonable times)

Mesmers and dealing with... anything

in Mesmer

RaGe.9834

As a… everything player gear slightly more towards the mesmer, mes is a decent single target dmg class with a metric f***tonne of good utilities… but they’re somewhat lacklustre for general pvp, they accelerate (in my opinion) in things like fractals, where sheer utility is god especially while being able to maintain relatively high dps

in pvp, shatter builds can have extreme damage, but I (being a multi-class player) find them somewhat underpowered at the moment(general complaint is either being forced to be close to do dmg, or not having enough health to allow this) previously they’ve been overpowered, but current meta basically just nerfs clones before they can get close.
That being said, mes is still my favorite (~40% of pvp matches)

The "How Do Mesmer See The Others" Interview

in Mesmer

Posted by: RaGe.9834

RaGe.9834

  • Name: RaGe (Rogelio Rosa)
  • Played Mesmer Since: Early access… awhile…
  • Favorite Alt? Why?:
Guardian, Specifically Meditation… It’s fast, mobile and when done properly, surprisingly tanky, while maintaining that damage.
  • Least Favorite Class to Play?: Ele, Absurd playstyle, spend more time fighting the control system than fighting other players…
  • What is your favorite class to fight? Why? 1v1 Other Mesmers, it’s a Challenge (a fair challenge)
  • What is your least favorite class to fight? Thief, Class basically just nullifies you, you can’t run, can barely even damage them half the time and if they get low on health, they cloak and heal up only to reengage while everything is on cooldown for you no contest for them, free kill
  • What is your favorite Mesmer spec? What is your role with this spec?
Constantly shifting, but favorite previous was signet distortion, role was essentially the same, damage with a little party support just with more survivabilty
Currently, shatter because that’s the only way to get even remotely decent damage out of the class.
  • What other class is your favorite duo partner?
engi, because if things get hairy they can drop turrets and distract them allowing me to pull off a few shatters
  • If you could give Mesmer a buff, what would it be?
    possibilities in order of preference:
    1. Additional conditions on scepter/staff(for staff mayhaps 2 random conditions from skill 1 instead of simply 1)
    2. better survivabilty (healing increase and/or increased base health/armor) to help deal with thieves and power rangers (speaking of which wtf is with the tracking while in stealth)
    3. General DPS improvements to phantasms, (mayhaps an extremely small shatter damage nerf in exchange) combined with phantasm (specifically) health/armor boost to make them vastly more resilient

  • How do you feel about…
Elementalist: OMFG GAHH!!!!!!!!!!! tears hair out
Engineer: a bit wonky, a tiny tiny bit too powerful, needs slight nerf to CC in many ways overall good diversity.
Guardian: Good versatility, diverse range of roles… being made exceedingly obsolete as meta shifts
Mesmer: Underpowered needs changes to survivability, or changes to damage to allow builds more focused on survivability. (lacks viable diversity)
Ranger: the damage output is too high, and lacks viable build diversity (condi/power)
Thief: back stab OP, needs slight debuff to that and conditions are slightly underpowered for this class. (lacks build diversity, [by design])
Necro: LOL brain-dead, but good diversity in roles, lacks decent stun counters/gtfo buttons (probably by design, but me no like)
Warrior: annoying to play/play against too basic… and therefore relegated to tanky/support roles consistently (… boring)
  • What is the first thing you think when facing them?
Elementalist: oh great another tank with aoe dmg… oh yay -.- (d/d)
    Engineer: Too many cc… nty
Guardian: medi or tank? anyone else around? No? Sweet! Round 1, FIGHT!
    Mesmer: Round 1, FIGHT
Ranger: Let me get first hit, and don’t hax ur way to firing through my stealth.
    Thief: Nope, nope, nope.
    Necro: Come at me bro!
Warrior: I should leave, by the time i get him down the other 4 members of his team will be here… kittening tanks -.-
  • What do you think your odds of winning are?
    Current statistics.. 55.5% per game
    in 1v1
    Elementalist: 25%
    Engineer: 10%
    Guardian: 50-90% (depending on build)
    Mesmer: 50-70% (depending on skill)
Ranger: 30% (rapid fire tracks while ur in stealth, pure bs)
Thief: 0-25% (assuming lower skill player)
    Necro: 50%
Warrior: 90% (assuming no allies come to the rescue)
  • What is the ideal strategy against these classes?
Elementalist: Take out enchantments, slowly wear down his health, shatter while at relatively low health…
Engineer: Stay away from the bullets, until no more turrets
Guardian: Confuse with stealth, and hope to catch him off guard with shatter.
Mesmer: Find him first, and confuse him until it’s shatter time.
Ranger: Get in close, and act like a clone to avoid longbow dps
Thief: Hope like hell he slips and gives you an opportunity to stun while he’s at low health.
Necro: Hide with stealth and slowly wear down
Warrior: Slowly wear him down, use well-timed confusion to get max damage. and generally avoid damage.

To be fair, I often switch Classes in that phase, simply because my team isn’t balanced at all (because yay to that script which balances the match ups https://www.guildwars2.com/en/news/finding-the-perfect-match/) eg. I had one game 2 mes (one was me) 2 ranger and 1 ele I swapped to war to try and balance it out.

I really like that idea tbh, it’d be like a custom queue, where everyone is sorta pooled together keeping the voting system on top of that would be interesting (I would prefer to test the idea first to see if its even viable)

This sounds like the same problem I’m having I’ve got very similar specs to yours except I’m using a hexcore @4.0ghz, 32gb of 1800 ram and windows 8, I suspect it may have something to do with the graphics card despite the fact that I’m having memory crashes with medium graphics quality, which should not happen
1. because 32 gb of ram
2. low settings compared to what my rig is capable of.
3. No hardware issues (I’ve checked multiple possibilities)
4. I’ve reinstalled client as a whole twice.
and 5. It’s specifically guild wars that I’ve had issues with and literally nothing else (minus ksp but that’s completely separate, mods + early development = expected)
so I suspect that since the biggest issue for everyone in gw2 have been performance (technically speaking, we’ll ignore business practices-.-) there’s a high probability it might be specifically the graphics card (I have a gtx 770 as well)

Best classes for Fractals

1. Guard, because relatively high dps, reflects, protection, aegis, weakness spam, general survivability without reduction to dps
2. Mes, reflects and general utility
3. War, DPS (plus banners, phalanx, and other dps related stuff, oh btw dps)
4. Thieves, perma blind plus ok dps, dazes, stealth etc.
5. Ele, (a surprizing amount of people suck at ele even in high lvl fractals), Necro’s personally I like em, but condi’s are only real advantage and the important ones are snagged by war, mes, guard. and engi’s ok dps, blind spam, aoe, various condi’s, lack buffs, and other key utilities (unless randomly generated)
6. Rangers… sorry guys

you can see for urself u have some special circumstances and a specific build, i’m not saying they have 0 i’m just saying it’s far more difficult to get kill tagging in there, you said yourself, sword and sup fire rune to get kill tags, ranged doesn’t work, its harder to get kill tags than other classes… to a very notable degree

dungeon ranks:
1. Guardian, after talking to guardians and watching them in action and so on they are very clearly at the time without question.
2. Mesmers, the utility, and distractions via clones make them very hard to beat <my personal favorite by far
3. Warrior, damage… (can be moved up to #1-2 for certain dungeons, Eg. AC)
4. Theif, party support/stealth combined with damage is extremely good
5. Necro, aoe, minions, conditions (which benefits other classes that sort of have some conditions, but ignore them in favor of another stat) and survivability
6,7,8. engi/ele/ranger just don’t notice much effect from them

General pve:
1. warrior everything basically gets 1 shotted
2. theif, less survivability, more damage than guardian
3. necro, good survivability lacks damage of theif
4. guardian op as kitten, but doesn’t kill as fast as others
5. ele, great potential damage, often wasted though
6. ranger all rounder pet makes it nice, not as much kill tagging capability as ele
7. engi, actually tied with range due to aoe , i’ve not much experience with them..
8. mes. low damage, next to zero kill tagging

pvp.
1. Mes, only by a narrow margin.
2. Necro, can often kill mesmers, MM’s are scary, wells are deadly as hell when used in the right hands
3. Theif, VERY VERY close second/third great utility and party-support, stealth makes them hard to kill, they can apply pressure and often assassinate key targets with relative ease
4. Eles, they make great bunkers and great roamers lots of damage, lots of survivability, and utility to spare, easy to target however, unlike theives (due to stealth), mesmers (due to clones) and necro’s (due to minions or their natural positioning within groups)
5. guardian, meditation is the only way to go from my perspective, those who try for bunkers tend to be absolutely terrible at everything and fail hard, meditation provides great mobility and just keeps you in ur opponents face all of the time
6. Warrior, excellent burst damage, if you can catch someone, they will die.. keyword being… if
7. Rangers, recently with alot of sword-based builds they’ve started to show up in tournaments and play excellently, i was tempted to say 8
8. engi’s generally unwieldy, they’re not discounted they’ll still destroy alot of the other classes in several area’s, they’re just seemingly weaker than one would expect

wvw:
1. ele dat aoe finally gets used to it’s fullest potential
2-3-4. theif/necro/ranger all have great range and aoe, theif you will almost always see near your spawn point where they will be picking off lone players, necro’s and rangers just finally get to use their range/survivability and aoe to their fullest potential
5-6-7-8 engi/mes/war/guardian, guardian’s i’ve heard are amazing, but i just don’t see it, warriors have excellent single target damage i myself frequently pick off lone players with the rifle (12k+ kill shots anyone?), engi’s similar to guardians, heard they’re good, i’ve not witnessed it, mes’s were absolutely amazing until the phantasm line of sight nerf… they suddenly became next to useless in my opinion, i’ve heard they’re still amazing particularly reflection-based, but again.. not witnessed.

I’m sorry but these are horribly wrong and probably biased views. If you want an insight on the professions you should experiment for yourself.

says the man in in a very quick (and probably biased opinion with absolutely no reasoning) ok good sir, care to state your opinions?
(noting that mine was very clearly an opinionated piece, with the noteable exception of pvp, that’s tried and true)

So, I am new and currently (impatiently) patching the game, and I’m feeling a little overwhelmed by all the class options. I am sure I am not alone in coming into this as a WoW veteran, and while I am excited about the unique twists on class design, I really don’t know what to expect.

I do prefer ranged/casting classes (or at least I did in WoW – that might be different here!) but the quick profession descriptions on the website likely do not paint a full picture of what each profession is really like.

So what are your favourites, which do you hate – and why?

I play warrior and mes in pvp, with a lvl 43 ele, 21 ranger for fun/wvw
I however have 1 of each class so i do play all classes in pvp (@ rank 21 some 500-ish matches and a ‘few’ tournaments)

dungeon ranks:
1. Guardian, after talking to guardians and watching them in action and so on they are very clearly at the time without question.

I’m in “nearly” full agreeance I play almost exclusively pvp nowadays because nothing else holds any interest, like you said everything i absolutely LOVED to death from gw1 is just flat out gone… it doesn’t exist at all in this game, this is coming from a true pvx-er in gw1 my time was like 50/50 pve/pvp played gvg (which why the kitten is there no guild wars in ze gilde worz), dungeons and just played casually and loved all of it, I’ve got 2 characters to lvl 80 and just about ragequit the first time through i REALLY think they should have stopped the leveling at 30-40, there’s no real function to having stupid-long leveling leveling should be (as the gw1 philosophy goes) just there to teach you the basic mechanics of the game and give you a semi-decent feel for what you’re doing, anything beyond that is a frustrating grind (so much for eliminating the grind from gw2)
But yeah… no i’ve not been playing the game that much, i feel horribly left out as a huge gw1 fan and i feel i’ve been completely cheated out of my money, and when i’m playing the game pvp is the only part worth playing because at least there everyone’s roughly equal, and I can play whatever class I want, whenever I want and there no 100+ hours of grind to get there and subsequent gold-farming (which anti-farming code, really anet? really?)

get rid of it it’s destructive to you’re own “cooperative gaming” philosophy
it’s destructive to the playerbase as none of us want it
it’s destructive to the “every player should be equal” piece of advertising you want you guys went on about
it’s extremely destructive to balance and on top of all that discourages players from playing alternate characters (another thing you advertised)
and ultimately shows you as being horribly dishonest as a company

http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Infusion

the new ascendend gear provide a stats bonus increased to fill the lack of a rune slot so and ascendet gear is 8% more strong then an exotic item with a rune.
But… as the wiki said, the infusion provide an innate agony resistance, but we dont know the real effect of the infusion bonus. If the first bonus is applied to all the content of the game, and the you have the agony resistance when you go to the fractal, the result is the the ascended gear is like:

((exotic item + rune\sigil)+8% stats) + additional rune (the infusion effect)

Now i dont know if it work like this, BUT the wiki let this road OPEN.

8% stronger if you do the math is actually a 26% difference
Base Power is 916
Power from full Berserker’s is 1001
Precision from full Berserker’s is 696
Critdmg from full Berserker’s is 62%
Power from 5x Scholar Rune + 1x Divinity is 175
Precision from 1x Divinity is 10
Critdmg from 5x Scholar Rune + 1x Divinity is 10%
Traits on a glasscannon build might give around 300 power, 200 precision, 20% critdmg (just an example)

So you get:

2392 power
906 precision above base
92% critdmg above base

906 precision are around 43% critchance +4% base critchance = 47%

Average dmg with crits compared to without crits: 0,47*1,42 + 1 = 1,6674 = 1,67

When Ascended gear increases gear stats by 8% that’s: 80 power and 56 precision. Critdmg seems to increase more (look at the bonus on MF, let’s say it’s same increase on critdmg in worst case, so ~42%) → Critdmg would go to 26% (I actually doubt it’ll be THAT much)

So you will have 2472/2392 = 1,0334 → 3,34% increased dmg cause of power and

0,5*1,68 + 1 = 1,84

→ 1,84/1,67 = 1,10 = 10% increase cause of crits

→ 1,0334*1,10 = 1,137 → 13,7% increase at most (when critdmg really increases by a freaking 42% and not 8%)

Get your facts straight!

The ring is just the beginning. Eventually there will be a full Ascended set. And that’s 8,5% stronger than a full exotic set, not counting the Infusions.

Problems:
Power creep
Gear treadmill
Exotics becoming the new rares
People who play less can’t catch up
Vertical progression instead of horizontal

not to mention players who love playing alts and different builds are essentially punished, and all that work which players put into getting exotics (on average ~120-200 hours) is equal to 0 squat diddly-flyingmonkey-all A.K.A. NOT REWARDING

Old runes and sigils risk to become useless as well.

How’s that? The new Ascended gear won’t have rune/sigil slots.

but they do have infusion slots which make those runes/sigils obsolete

My thoughts on gw2

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: RaGe.9834

RaGe.9834

with quotes like:
“if you hate traditional MMORPGs, then you should really check out Guild Wars 2”
and
“The rarest items in the game are not more powerful than
other items, so you don’t need them to be the best. The rarest items
have unique looks to help your character feel that sense of
accomplishment, but it’s not required to play the game. We don’t need to
make mandatory gear treadmills, we make all of it optional, so those
who find it fun to chase this prestigious gear can do so, but those who
don’t are just as powerful and get to have fun too.”
and even
“we want to completely eliminate the grind”

all of which you can find by looking at the manifesto, and various other articles from before the games release, all of which I feel are (for the sake of fairness I won’t call them lies) decidedly relative to the genre, and were not at all intended for fans of the original in the series, which for me (and possibly other fans of the original) is a huge let down. Perhaps I’m being harsh, but change was never caused by people reacting calmly about something they whole-heartedly disagreed with.
I’m at the point now, where I won’t play for anything more than pvp tournaments, but because of rapidly declining numbers and very noticeable imbalances it’s nigh impossible to get even a free tournament going within anything resembling a reasonable period of time.
I suppose my standards are high, but when you advertise giving so much more, coming off of possibly the best (in my opinion) game in the genre standards should be high.
The things I’m specifically annoyed about are as follows:
-Gear, is tiered which coming from gw1 and as a person who couldn’t play any other mmo’s given the ridiculous amounts of grind required similar to gw2, granted gw2 is about 1/4 what the others are, it’s still 10x worse than gw1, which was actually reasonable, enjoyable and all-inclusive never in gw1 did you hear players ever say “you can’t come for this mission, because you don’t have max armor” and THAT inspires people to play together. Given this is better than other games of the genre, people will still play it and they’ll suck it up thinking “oh this is soo great” but as a player of gw1 I’m not fooled.
-Currency… why is there karma and why are dungeon tokens not consolidated or at least given as a larger percentile of item cost (eg. takes 7-13[variable based on runs per day{which given the unreasonable token decrease for running something twice or more in 1 day is a problem of it’s own}] runs for great-sword, that being said that is where this starts to blur with the topic from above.
-Experience, when it was announced that the level cap would be increased to 80 I had a feeling that this would be screwed up, low and behold I was right, for non-gw1 players you’ll obviously not understand this, but rest assured that this level cap takes too long and with high level caps comes this stupid notion of gear-progression and tiers and essentially what you see with ascended gear where it nullifies instantly all the reward that people have worked for up to that point and just serves to make large parts of the game irrelevant which makes players complain about the “lack of content”… there’s tons of content if you but reduce the amount of time and space to reach the level cap you open up a HUGE HUGE portion of the map and make players feel like they actually have that area to play in, this also caters to so-called alt-aholics who like playing multiple classes, as for story-line to level progression I once more cite you back to gw1, the play reached the level cap within the first 3-6 missions (campaign dependent) and then had upwards of 20 more to go, so 80+ % of the story and game was open all the time. What does this tell us? That, that very system works.

So why am I bringing up the roots so much? because THAT was the actual revolutionary game, that was the game that made me believe this was a reasonable purchase, and after that I know you can do better, so why don’t you? there’s still time to change, hell keep the combat I like it, a few number tweaks might be necessary along the way the the basic premise is fine. So I’m out, I’ll see ya when the game “feels rewarding” as I was promised.
Also I’ve included a picture of my warrior carrying a crystalline sword (the gw1 equivalent of eternity) as a little show of why I like the idea of legendary item’s it’s the time required in getting max stat armor that bugs me, limits me and subsequently causes me anger when I see you talk about this stupid idea of “ascended item progression” that ultimately causes me to feel like I’ve wasted all of that time and effort getting even 1 set.
TL:DR
as a player of gw1 huge let down, fix game

Getting to 1-80 is a joke. (Friend did it in 4 days and they have a life)
Getting max gear, is a bigger joke. (Friend did it as soon as they hit 80)

I don’t disagree with you but your friend seems to be faster than average.

I know people who have done it faster. The main point is even if you’re slow, it’s not a grind.

YOU sir clearly weren’t a gw1 player

YOU clearly aren’t as good at gw2 as me, so? Does it matter, we’re here to play GW2. Now stop getting personal and talk about GW2. You didn’t tell me why it’s not a grind yet, I’ll be waitin’

It’s not a grind compared to wow or aion or anything of the like, you’re right, But for those of us who came from gw1, it’s a huge huge grind, and ur friend who did in 4 days I’m willing to bet had a little help from ppl giving him crafting materials or money or even just bought it with gems, 1-80 just by playing is ~80 hours, which is a grind (especially for people who’re used to gw1 where 1-20[lvl cap] was about 8-12 hours) Leveling was for the purpose of holding ur hand teaching game basics, after that you refined the specifics yourself, that is the philosophy it should be. Beyond that it’s just a grind. (in this case I’ll grant you up to lvl 40, so that means 40 levels of pointless grind)

We don't need new content

in Suggestions

Posted by: RaGe.9834

RaGe.9834

Arenanet seems to think that we, the players, are desperate for more content and bored with the end game. But this is only half true. Many of us are bored with the end-game, mainly because the only end-game zone is Cursed Shore and we fight one type of enemy over and over again. But as for more content, there’s an entire world out there filled with cool events for us to do. And yet, those zones are deserted.

Which makes perfect sense of course, because the rewards for going to those zones are paltry. If we want tier 6 crafting materials, we have to grind Orr. If we want coin and karma, the best place to grind is Orr. If we want exotic gear, we have to grind Orr. If we want ectos, we have to grind Orr. No wonder the other zones are desolate wastelands.

Instead of devoting time and money to creating new zones, Arenanet should make their current zones more rewarding. Give every zone a karma armour set like in Orr; Harathi Hinterlands could have a centaur set, Bloodtide Coast a pirate one. If I’m level 80 and in Queensdale, I should be able to find tier 6 crafting materials. Too easy to kill mobs, you might say? Then make level scaling harsher. I don’t see why I have to be two levels higher than the zone, especially when my personal story quests make me exactly the same level as the mobs I’m fighting (and even for a level 80 in full exotics, some of those fights are tough). If I’m completing dynamic events in Caladon Forest, reward me with the same amount of karma and coin I’d get from completing a Cursed Shore dynamic event. If I’m killing mobs in the Brisban Wildlands, make their drops scale to my level.

Give us incentives to go to these other zones, and believe me, people will abandon Orr at lightspeed. You have a massive, amazing world for your players to explore, Arenanet. You don’t need to try and win us over with events and new zones. You just need to give us a reason to play the game you’ve already made.

What’s funny was this was exactly an arguement I made a LONG time ago, and one of which I still believe is the way to go. +1’d

Agreed. Look at all the rage around ascended gear. Look at all the rage around one time only events.

Had ANET tried to gather feedback first, they rage would have come early enough for ANET to back off. But, now that ANET has put development time into them, backing off means they have to push on or throw that investment away. So they push on and the rage gets stronger till it becomes a rage quit.

much agreed personally I’m on the fence, once the upgrades here I’m not playing anymore, I see no reason to play when every once in awhile all my time and effort is just nullified, why bother when I’m not being rewarded for all my previous work personally I wouldn’t care if they just ook the game down, took the time to make the gear/economy not WoW and then put out that update. I honestly got the game because I thought it would be GW not kittenin WoW.

Ascended Gear Progession: A Suggestion

in Suggestions

Posted by: RaGe.9834

RaGe.9834

Very much agreed, I too personally believe that they should go back to their roots on things like armor progression, I very much am on the boarder of just stopping playing now because I feel I’m not being rewarded for my efforts at all, I feel that pushing for appearances instead of stats and the like is more rewarding than making us grind for stats. As stats make (as you so kindly put) all my work getting “x-y-z” armor completely useless and thus my reward is gone and my time was completely wasted and with such why should I even bother playing if my time means nothing. With GW1. We got to choose more easily and freely how and what class we wanted to play. Instead here I find myself grinding for 120hours just to play the same class in a new way, or grinding for ~200 hours just to play a new class… that’s not rewarding to me, that’s restrictive. I was a gw1 player, I grinded the game out to get like 25-ish sets of 15k(or higher[eg. 2 sets of obsidian]) armor, I chased down and eventually got a crystalline sword. So grinding I’m ok with, as long as all my previous struggles are still relevant and I’m able to do it with some variety.
(I also had 1 character slot for each class in gw1)

4: You can change weapons durring combat. Unless you’re an elementalist or an engineer.

Which is because a balance issue which quite frankly I agree with, I play a bit of pvp as all classes and ele’s are crazy if you’re good at element swapping you can just pump damage like your mother wouldn’t even ….
also, no one cares about engineers they have no business in a sword/shield game….

Much agreed I think the biggest issue I’ve had with moving over to gw2 was the level progression I’m not gonna lie I hate high level caps, they force you to not spend money for most of the game and then drag hours out of you just trying to max gear, i personally agreed and loved the gw1 philosophy of low level cap, cheap max armor and then grinding for appearance the more of a bamf you were the more you looked like a bamf.

Honestly baseline exotics(max armor) are cheap, there is grinding for better looking armor and especially weapons. Idk if you’ve heard but there are these things called legendary weapons, I hear their kind of a big deal.

ur quite right, on the large scale, exotics ARE realtively cheap compared to other games, i mean like honestly it only takes 30-ish hours to get it! gw 1 was like maybe 2-5 hours and then expensive armor was like 1 week to 3 months for casuals. so yes relatively fast, but not gw1 fast (part of which gw1 players [like myself] LOVED)

Bringing some GW1 flavor to GW2

in Suggestions

RaGe.9834

Skill capturing NO thx. it may fit gw1 style but not gw2, for simple reason it was a prohibitive system, it made my life hell until I could get specific skills that made it so much easier to do a certain task.

It did increase the longevity of the game, along with the profession-specific armors. You couldn’t simply “max out” a character that easily. A feeling of progression was always there, and the Elite Skill Tomes fixed the unavailability issue later.

In Guild Wars 2 you get to have literally all your skills long before you hit 80, and even after that, you still end up with over 150 skill points by the time you hit 80.

The old skill system was infinitely superior in terms of functionality because (along with other things) it substituted level progression after lvl20. You never felt like that you had a 100% complete character.

Main-hand shield, Captain America style

in Suggestions

Posted by: RaGe.9834

RaGe.9834

Essentially, a properly used shield is a fist weapon as well

hence weapon of opportunity, I’m aware of that, but what i was suggesting is that shields are not used ONLY as weapons or for that matter as a main hand weapon (as was being suggested) I’m more than aware of the history and uses of shields as weapons but more or less were primarily as defense mechanics (very rarely on a battlefield would a sword strike sword, the weapon on actual battlefields would strike shields almost exclusively) a shield as a primary weapon is a bad idea… like horns on your helmet, sacrificing a weapon for the purpose of having a shield to use as your sole weapon or to dual-wield shields or even use a shield with a silly focus or alternatively use a shield main-hand and sword offhand is silly, like I said and actively stand by, it’s a silly decision that would make too great a change to the game and provide no benefit or realism. Also, I know my history.

^ i’d love you to show me a case in actual history of someone which used a shield as a weapon of choice. dual shields, even better.

Spartans.

Actually in individual combat the hoplites (spartan infantry) would often simply drop their shields as they were very unwieldy in individual combat, the shield was designed to be used in a phalanx where everyone covered the person next to them in individual combat it was almost better dropped and picked back up later(returning home without your shield in ancient Greece was a sign of cowardice) that being said a great deal of the Spartans were strong enough to wield them effectively (as both weapon and defense, but only as off-hands)

perhaps i’m just being a “nay say”-er (looks around suspiciously) but i sadly don’t like this idea, there was never a time in history where shields were used as anything but defense or a weapon of opportunity (eg. just lost sword, no options, screw it throw shield, buy time to grab something else) further it would require way more balancing which anet is already having issues with (bunker problem anyone?) and even further seeing someone dual-wielding shields is just (in the words of Tim Minchin) @#$%ing silly

Game Improvement - Suggestions

Free way points
This would be a convenience like we had in gw1 and every single player loved. It feels like a punishment that forces the game away from the community, and makes the game feel like a 9-5 desk job, this simply change would promote the community by allowing us to move across the map more freely to help friends, guild members, and even random players in the community faster and without worrying about costs/gains/rewards and other petty monetary related issues that aren’t necessary and drive the community to ignore fellow players and overall drive people away from the game.

Dungeon Finder
I’m aware this change has been suggested numerous times, and is definitely something the community as a whole STRONGLY desires, it would make it faster/easier for individuals to find parties and even meet others in the community.

Open World Server Guesting/Combined World Servers
One of the issues I’ve had since moving to Gw2 is that 1/3 of my friends are on 1 server, and 1/3 are on another and another 1/3 are on the server I’m on, and server swapping is highly undesirable for ALL of us, but we’d still like to play together in places other than just dungeons and pvp for some we wish to play in the open world or do missions together but because servers are separated we’re unable to I’d like to see some feature which allows us to either join their server, move us to a combined world (like the overflow servers), or otherwise simply allow us to play together, afterall is community not the big thing for this game?

It would shift (if you’ve ever worn armor that is rated for jousting you know it moves a little as you do) most likely side to side if metal were to ever actually be custom fitted to breasts due to the strap points most likely being side to side and latched up and down into the other plates more directly.

That said, I agree it looks rather silly to move THAT much.

impressive that you thought that much, but i think there’s bigger issues like the pirate “spear” and the pirate “speargun” if you ever find out you will laugh you’re kitten off watching urself stab someone with a gun or shoot with a spear.
