Tagless guild commander

When our server does not have a commander, would our server benefit if a tagless guild commander would tag up – and move to our server’s ts from guild’s private ts?

Sure guilds may have their private runs, but when there is no commander, it probably is not a bad idea to remind that it is our server’s map, not guild’s private map. We have many pugs who wishes for a commander when there is none.

Would it not be a better idea for one of those people in the public TS to tag up?

You know, use some initiative?

Rather than sitting on your backside in the mud, bawling and weeping about how there’s nobody to herd you around like a sheep and do 100% of the thinking for you, so you can keep “playing” with only 1 hand?

Why is a guild player under any more compulsion to tag up than anyone else on the map?

Commanders aren’t some rare valuable commodity, they aren’t “chosen by god”, they’re just regular players the same as everyone else, who have decided “sod it, if nobody else is gonna sort this shiz out, then I guess I’ll have to”. Why don’t YOU be that person?

It is so funny to me, how people already know the impact of those changes. They seem to have a pretty good insight into all the changes of HoT. Can I get in on those information too? Also, where is the HoT build creator, so we can update metabattle.com with the new meta builds…

You guys are funny. Instead of complaining about things you know absolutely nothing about (unless you really know all the changes of HoT), you should wait and see. This goes beyond speculation, as some ppl seem to already call the game being ruined. (but what am I saying, WvW is dead for 2 years now, according to some of the loudest outcries in that forum here)

They said Stab change will be coming “sooner than you expect” ie. before HoT.

That’s what ya get for queuing maps and doing nothing while stuff flips cause you’re busy in a “scrim”. I could care less about your GvG’s you have an obsidian sanctum arena for that, when ya bring it to home bl it becomes ever so boring for the defenders, who when they accidentally run into a fight get shouted at in /m, or who get told no when they ask for help holding a way-point. As a casual observer who enjoys watching these subjects devolve, I can only begin to guess that maybe anet possibly shares a view of indifference towards ya.

Oh btw, i love trebbing your fights, oh so very much.

Then surely you would be in favour of giving guilds some official support so they aren’t on your precious maps?

Don’t say OS; 1 small space is not sufficient for 3 entire server’s worth of guilds.

GvG is the mode that was available in GW1. Something that they are giving us a more advanced version of with HoT.

And stupidest argument of the year award goes to…..

Are we going to say that sPvP isn’t a real game-mode, because Battlefield were using the name “Conquest” first?

Are we going to say that jumping puzzles aren’t a real thing, because Mario totally did that years ago?

Just because you made a 25 vs 25 TDM for guilds doesn’t mean you’re entitled to the GvG format.

In PvP you’re also playing TDM and Conquest, so both forms can be GvG.

However, as I’m a GW1 player I support the GW1 format of GvG.
Kill enemy guilds lord, game won.

And you’re still getting hung up on the name.

Call it whatever you want, there are still a lot of people out there who enjoy it and wish it received some sort of support.

Well, since you asked, I would very much like it if an official game-mode or leaderboard of some sort was introduced supporting what players in GW2 WvW have been calling GvG.

However, I wasn’t going to give that opinion until you asked, because it’s just farting into the wind on these forums. ANet aren’t going to support it because of “really interesting, very excite, definitely look at, not at this time, can’t say anything”. That’s been made clear repeatedly, so quit stressing.

I just post here because I have an uncontrollable reflex to call out bullkitten when I see it.

If the community wants OS to be a dueling zone, it’s going to be a dueling zone. Just like behind the windmill. Just because they aren’t specified as dueling areas doesn’t mean they aren’t. You seem to know that OS is considered a dueling area and still interrupt duels. You aren’t someone I’d like to associate with.

In addition, duelists, spvpers and WvWers are the real PvPers of this game, not puzzle campers.

Well that is the issue here, these duelers has driven out us that wanted the real PvP action, the sheer number of those not capable for real fights became so many that the community was “forced” to their will – And I for one won’t sit back and just LET that continue.

And I acknowledged that people USE Obsidian Sanctum as a duel zone, but it is NOT a duel zone, so why should I hold back and not do PvP battle in a PvP area to earn badges? Now as I said, just to be “kind” I don’t SEEK out those dueling in the “arena” and so on to kill them for the bags / badges (Although as they cast us out: probably I should…) But once they start dueling OUTSIDE that zone and gets mad for that PvP suddenly takes place in a PvP environment… THAT is what I find wrong with whats happened to the Obsidian Sanctum.

Edit: Forgot the last part – It’s not about being a “Puzzle camper” heck that word didn’t exist back when Obsidian Sanctum was the REAL Obsidian Sanctum. It was called PvP combat, kill or be killed.

The road is for driving in.

Against average to poor players thief seems very OP- I’ve been playing it a bit recently, and if you meet good players you can die really fast whilst never downing anything.

This is the heart of it.

Learning to beat thief is a “rite of passage” for WvWers and PvPers. To the beginner they look absurdly, godly overpowered. To the experienced player, they are generally preferable to having to deal with a decent celestial ele or engi.

Rewards are relevant because it’s a snowball effect.

Lots of reward-monkeys going to chest -> lots of true PvPers gankers trying to hunt them -> lots of actual PvPers hunting the gankers.

You take away the bottom tier, and the rest collapses.

You can’t make people play how you want them to.

If they’re holding back on guild-only tags in an attempt to ‘force’ guilds to co-operate with the other groups on the map, it’s not going to work (at least in wvw). (Some) guilds still don’t want the randoms with them, all it causes is more arguments in /say .

It wouldn’t surprise me if the main reason is to keep the commander visibility up for the big PvE events, and WvW is considered an acceptable price to pay for that.

They had semi-open beta for EotM where guilds could apply for access. Said beta went on for quite some time, and rather many things changed based on the feedback.

Stop telling lies. I am 100% certain you werent in the beta then.
The beta was about finding bugs of this map. Not about the features of the map. Most notable change that happened due to the beta are most of the fences you see around there so you dont get knocked off so easily.

+1 to this. Stop using EoTM beta as an example. It was entirely a bug-checking exercise.

The design of the map remained completely un-changed, despite feedback being given that the map design constricted movement and forced 1-directional PvD blob play.

And in the whole game, how many times did you see that compared to group retaliation? 1000-1? I have never ever seen aoe confusion and I play since the beta weekends.

If you had played since beta, then you’d know that “confusion bombing” with mesmer glamours was a pretty common tactic back in 2012 and early 2013. Infact, it got so out of hand, that they had to nerf confusion in WvW, hence it is not used much these days.

Cleansing Burst

Hey, long time PvPer/WvWer, but not much experience on Engi, trying to get into it now.

I don’t know if I’m doing something wrong, but Cleansing Burst always seems to take 3-5 seconds to activate. Whenever I’m fighting an engi, or watch any videos, they seem to be able to activate the waterfield instantly and start blasting away, but whenever I’m thinking “okay, I need to cleanse and burst heal now”, I drop turret, activate Cleansing Burst and then….. wait….. and wait…. and wait….. and wait….. and…. oh too late.

Is there some trick to getting the instant waterfield?

Remember you can swap weapons around whenever you’re not in combat. Most builds for warrior recommend hammer, especially for the big fights, but if you see an enemy crowding around a tower, and you need to get inside, you can always quickly swap to sword+shield to let you get inside. Greatsword is another good option, with the evade on skill #3. You can also swap out your utilities. You might want to use healing shouts in the big fights, but just to dive into a tower you can swap to endure pain + berserker stance + balanced stance, which will make you pretty much invincible for the few seconds you need to jump inside.
Quick note which alot of beginners struggle with: turn auto-targeting off. If you have auto-targeting on, when you use your sword leap or greatsword rush, you’ll likely go completely the opposite direction that you want to go. There’s no need for a warrior to have auto-target on, it’s only really any use for mesmers.

If you really can’t get inside a tower to help with the siege inside, then your other option is to group up with other players asap to drive the attackers off. As you say, it’s no use running in and dying alone; go to a commander if there is one, or see if someone is trying to muster a group, or even organize it yourself.

If neither of these things can be done, you just have to accept that you can’t help that tower. Look around the map and see if there’s anything else useful you can do. Maybe go to the next tower you expect to be hit and start preparing seige there, or go take a camp that’s supplying an enemy keep.

Back in the adopt-a-dev, we had an admission straight from a dev that there’s been very little attention for WvW, and unlikely to ever be anything added in future, because they can’t find a way to monetize WvW.
But when you ask people what they’d be willing to pay for…. suddenly they go quiet. You want maps? Gonna have to find a way to make it worth their while. ANet aren’t a charity. But it’s easier to just cry rather than pay $5, so guess what’s gonna happen.

You know why we have the EoTM champ-train? Because those are the kind of people who pay for boosters. You know why we don’t have a hardcore GvG map? Because those are the kind of people who are proud to never pay anything. You know why populations and servers have remained unfixed? Because transfers are the only source of revenue from WvW. Think about your priorities, and think about whether $5 is really worth more than 2 years of suffering for WvW.

The death of T1 PPT play (an obituary)

I’ve done basically nothing but WvW for over a year, starting in Jade Quarry NA and now on Seafarer’s Rest EU, both T1 servers. Can’t say I see it dying at all, really. I don’t know why there are always threads like this popping up. I wouldn’t consider WvW to be dead or dying until a blob is classified as 10 – 20 people, then we should be worried. But as is, servers will field 50 – 70 people at peak hours and the maps are still pretty active at off-hours as well. Sure, sometimes things will get a bit slow, like this past Halloween on T1 EU where Deso and Jade Sea had like 5 people tops in EBG, but that’s just the nature of things. Some PvE content comes out, people want to get their golds and achievements, then things pick up again.

Anyway, sorry, I don’t see it. I think WvW is just fine and maybe T1 isn’t as active as it used to be but I think you can save the obituaries for a later date.

What are you even talking about?

Yeah blobs are still big, 50+ players. However, the difference between now and a year or more ago is the frequency of the blobs, or just fights in general. A year ago a T1/2 server would have a ‘blob’ presence on at least 2 maps during primetime, probably 3 or 4 maps. These days, you’re more likely to see just 1 blob hopping around all the maps, and that only during primetime.

For season 3 I was on Kodash, T1 EU. Do you know how long the queues were just 3 hours after the season started? It’s a trick question, because there were no queues. Are you honestly saying that that’s the same as a year ago, where even during off-season a T1 server would have queues of 50+ on all maps on just a regular night?

I remember we used to do dolyak parades around the map at the end of the week, and have parties up at north camp, because each week felt like an experience to be celebrated. That was back in 2012, start of 2013. I don’t think I’ve seen one of those for more than a year now.

Of course WvW isn’t “dead”, as long as anyone logs into the game it isn’t dead. But don’t try to pretend that the current state of WvW isn’t a pale mockery of what it was 18 months ago.

PoV + Boon Duration

I’ve had a good search around, but can’t find an answer, and don’t have the time to test it myself either.

Are the boons gained when you convert a condition with PoV affected by boon duration?
I know they’re not affected by the duration of the condition; cripple always gives 9s of swiftness when converted, regardless of the duration of the cripple.

But would 50% boon duration turn that 9s into 13.5s ? Or will it be 9s regardless? I would have assumed that it would be 13.5s, but that fact that the boons are fixed regardless of condition has got me wondering if that’s actually the case.

I’m planning a build something like this
The idea being to have permanent 10-15 might, permanent fury, retal, regen, protection, vigor, swiftness, and 50% stability uptime. No idea if it’ll actually work, just theory-crafting.

Yes I do read what you wrote and yes I did saw many GvG thank you. You guys have to stop looking at your little belly button 2 sec and put yourselves in the shoes of the new players. Also, realize that a tiny fraction of GW2 population look and participate in these forums.

Of course I can pretty much figure a bunch of players compose of 2 guilds from enemy servers in a field waiting is probably waiting for a gvg to happen. I have context and knowledge I didn’t always have. However, I remember the first time I saw 2 huge bunch of players looking at each others my reflex was to jump in and attack thinking I’d have plenty of support. Hopefully, someone explained it to me before I decided to go into action.

But, more importantly, the thread is about duels not GvG. If GvG does share the hockey in the street analogy in large part with duels, duels aren’t as easy to figure out as GvGs. Is the guy fighting in a duel wanting to be left alone or is it a duel that naturally happened and any help would be welcomed? Typing a message to verify is simply stupid. Why? Because if the guy does need help and he would like to get it, it might be too late when he receive it because i took time to write that he didn’t had. And would he have the time to type an answer back for me to take a decision based on his real intent? Not so sure. It is simply not logical to entertain expectation of not being interrupted in duel on WvW battle field.

I don’t think anyone on the pro-dueling side has a problem with players who genuinely don’t know what is happening, either because they’re new, or because it isn’t obvious that a duel is happening. If you genuinely think that a team-mate needs help and you dive in, I’ll accept that.

But you’re totally naive to think that every duel-interrupt is down to new players. A significant number are interrupted by people who know exactly what is going on, but decide to troll anyway. 95% of the time, when you say “we’re dueling, please move away or you’ll get killed” people totally ignore you. So it cannot possibly be the case that all these people are making honest mistakes. The majority of them know full-well that they’re being a nuisance, and they get a kick out of it.

Ummmm keep the duelers in WvW please. That’s where they want to be. The red is dead mentality in pvp doesn’t always work, and duelers will want fair even fights that they are unlikely to get in pvp. Whatever the reason, this was a bad post to make, as someone who plays both game modes.

Why can’t they get fair fights in pvp? I see ZERO reasons for this. You can pick the server you want and duel whoever you want. Heck, I did it on servers where ppl were only there for just that.

In WvW you are on a battleground. You have to expect to be interrupted. The best you can hope for is to get to some very remote point of the map where you won’t be seen. But then again, why not just go in PVP with ppl who agree to do what you want to do.

Why not go to WvW where people agree and want to do that? Anyone can log into just about anywhere and interrupt a duel. These duelers want to be in WvW, why should you try to force them elsewhere? Remember that many builds aren’t possible in pvp due to amulets and food not being usable.

From my experience, the problem isn’t with the people outside the duel so much as the reaction of the duelers when they get interrupted for completely legitimate reasons. The same is true of GvG. People resent being interrupted despite playing in a field where they know they have a high chance of being interrupted.

Again, if you play hockey in the street, don’t whine when you have to move your goals and team aside eveytime a car comes by. You are in the street… Sure, you can kitten well play hockey there and noboby can tell you blabla… but you know you are in the street and with that knowledge should come awareness of potetial problems if you resent being interrupted and you know others will resent not being supported when they only wanted to help you.

Also, whether many of you agree or like it or not, there are expectations in the setting called WvW that no amount of rationalizations will make disapear. The guys sharing your colors expect your help and that you aim for the same general goal of scoring points while preventing others of doing the opposite.

As a side note to the guy saying you can’t rely on nobody. I wonder how things would be in the army if evey soldier had the “you cant rely on your fellow soldiers” mentality. Granted, this is a game and not the army, but still, asking for all to let go of natural and fundamental expectations is ludicrous. And I’m a pretty strong loner myself when I play 90% of the time.

Pretty horrible “counter” analogy and understanding of the problem. The street IS for the cars like the WvW map is for the people who wants to contribute to PPT. Of course you can duel and GvG like yu can play hockey in the streets, but the legitimacy lies with the cars. Sorry, but that is reality.

If you go play on a rink or in a field, the car isn’t going to follow you around without breaking some laws. Bad attempt to extend the analogy. If you keep moving from street to street and a car keeps following you, well, you can do what you want, and so can the person in the car.

That doesn’t stop the guy in the car from being a kitten.

You’re trying so hard to make it sound like “intentionally ruining other people’s fun for no other reason than your own twisted amusement” is totally fine because it’s “allowed”.

You can’t go toe-to-toe with a medi-guard, but you can out-sustain him. As someone who plays both, when I’m on my guard the warriors who beat me are the ones who take their time, make sure to land their CCs, and make space when they need a few seconds for signet/adrenal to push their health back up. The warriors I beat are the ones who yolo in with full zerk and don’t have a plan B for when Evisc gets blocked.

It depends on your team and on the map.

If your team is expecting you to solo-bunker for long periods as a guardian, then hammer is not a good choice. Mace + focus/shield and Staff are just superior in every way in terms of pure survival. Maybe if the auto-chain was faster then you could make some proper use of symbol traits and the protection boon, but at the moment it’s just not reliable enough.

However, if you’re playing more of a team-support role, acting as the fulcrum on mid-point and buffing your team in 3v3/4v4 situations, then hammer is really very useful. I’d even go so far as to say better than Mace. Ring can completely screw the opposition on some of the smaller points. A well timed Banish can get you that clutch-stomp/rez, and on Kyhlo banishing someone down the stairs of clock-tower can turn a fight around. And hammer 1 and 2 let you keep the aoe-boons flowing, while providing reasonable damage pressure.

So for selfish-bunker, don’t use it. But for tanky-support, absolutely viable.

What would you pay real $£€ for?

It’s quite simple: you get what you pay for.

This is true everywhere in life.

Lets give the developers the benefit of the doubt for a moment, and assume they do really care about WvW. Even then, when they think of a new awesome feature, they can’t just go and do it. They need to submit a business proposal to their superiors saying “We estimate it will cost $xx to build, and based on these predictions will generate $yy in additional gem/game sales”.

I’m guessing here, but probably the reason the commander tags were so underwhelming was that the developers took all the awesome ideas from the CDI, took it all to their managers, who then asked “how much will this all cost? and how much are we gonna get back?”.

If you want awesome stuff, it isn’t gonna come for free. I imagine that was part of what the 300G price-tag was about on the commander colours, because high gold costs will generate some gem sales, and the developers had to concede that in exchange for even being allowed to do that tiny paint-job.

So what would YOU be willing to pay for? Would you pay for new skins on seige, commander tags etc? Maybe some WvW specific costumes/toys? Maybe even the ability to customise towers/keeps? Would you pay an access-fee for a new map? Would you be willing to pay a monthly subscription in gems for access to WvW? Would you pay for access to fully functioning GvG mode?

Because there’s no two ways about this. If you want more for WvW, it’s gotta be paid for. Either directly, or by proxy through gem-shop. I’m sure ANet would be delighted to create several new WvW maps, but it won’t happen unless there’s reason to believe it’s worth their while.

Which is why the cheap-skate players and the idea that “F2P > P2P” is gonna keep pushing the industry into mediocre, boring tedium. “$15 for hundreds of hours of entertainment? That’s OUTRAGEOUS. Lets go to the cinema and pay $30 for 2 hours instead.” Congrats on sabotaging your own entertainment. I will never understand why people are willing to spend more on a pizza than they will on an entire expansion. If a new game has the temerity to ask just $2 per month more than the industry standard, gamers start frothing at the mouth and flipping tables. It’s just $2 kitten ….

Points for kills isn’t going to fix anything either – it just promotes avoidance of fights unless you’re absolutely sure you’re going to win.

And means that groups who’ll hold off an enemy force for as long as they can become a liability rather than an asset.

Not if you learn to fight, you can do a lot more with smaller numbers than people might think.

All you have to do is take out at least 1 for every person you have. If it’s 20 vs 60, if you can outplay them and take out 25, you’ve just gained points.

And I see this happen regularly, a team will bait the larger force stretching them out letting them loosen up, hit those that overpushed taking out 10, suddenly it’s 20 vs 50, rinse repeat and while you may lose the battle in the end you’ll have done so after taking out a mighty chunk of them.

It puts the power in the hands of people that know how to fight, a smaller but more skilled force will be raking in points even if they end up losing battles, where a larger force will only get the amount of points that you have people.

That’s what I meant when i said it scales well, in every way it scales. If you can take out at least one, maybe 2 people for every 1 of yours you’ve done your world a service.

Someone manning siege only needs to take out 2 people with an arrow cart to have gained points for his world, just 1 to break even.

You’re assuming the group of 60 even comes out to face the group of 20 in the first place.

Split the 24h period into 3 × 8h periods.

So, for instance, 6pm-2am, 2am-10am, 10am-6pm.

Rank each server separately for each of these 3 periods. So a server might be considered T1 for 6pm-2am, but then is considered T4 for 2am-1am and T2 for 10am-6pm.

Matchups are still 1 week long. However now there are 3 matchups occuring “simultaneously” (with 16 hour intervals).

All timezones are treated equally. Nobody is made to feel less valued or prevented from playing.

However a server cannot win a matchup by dominating one of these periods and sitting back for the other two.

This solves the coverage issue, without creating new problems for off-peak players.

It also solves the problem of “stale” matchups by adding a great deal more variety.

On your last statement about requests for help, maybe try asking for numbers or more about the situation. On my server, both guilds and PUGs will sometimes just say “inc bay south” or something similar and someone else will ask “what are the numbers” then they will realize they didn’t give enough info at first and will then explain the situation in full. It is not that hard to ask.

Do you see the difference?

After 2 years of asking “numbers?” 50 times a night, and people still never ever learning to get it right first time, patience can wear thin.

Can’t be bothered typing a number? Then I can’t be bothered typing to remind you, and certainly not running across the map.

I have no problem spending 20 seconds rezzing up some pugs if they just happen to have crossed our path, and will then continue on their own way doing their scouting or roaming or w/e.

I will not rez them if they’ve been following us around all night, and won’t move off when asked.

You want respect? Then reciprocate it.

And 90% of the time we don’t respond to pug request for help because the “request” is something vague like “INC ZOMG helpz keep quick!”. A guildie is more likely to get a response from us, because they provide actual information like “40-50 SFR at NE gate garri, 3 rams up, gate 70%”.

Do you see the difference?

Any warrior build → capable of fighting a thief

Meditation Guardian → can very easily blow up a thief in under 2 seconds.
Shout/Bunker Guardian → probably can’t kill it, but can out-sustain usually.

Engi → Bombs Grenades GG

Condi-trapper Ranger → easily win
Power-longbow Ranger → has a very good chance of winning, as long as you land your burst.

Mesmer → PU Phantasm GG

Necro → Wear the thief down a bit with marks, then deathshroud can basically 1-shot him.

Honestly, have you even tried playing a thief? Yeah, you can 1-shot bad players easy, but it’s actually a relatively difficult class to play against anybody who knows what they’re doing. And no, I don’t play thief. I tried it, didn’t like it. If the person you’re trying to gank keeps their cool and pressures you back, rather than panicking and running in circles, then the thief has no choice but to back away or die, since most classes will kill a thief in 3-4 hits.

Hoelbrak is only useful if you combine it with Lemongrass, or a trait like dogged-march. -20% condition duration doesn’t really change anything. -60% however, is significant.

As commendable as this initiative is…. the things people are really interested in seeing are relatively complex and content-heavy things like GvG, Guild Halls, Guild Raids etc. If these are not yet in development, then it’ll be at least a year before they can be released, if not longer. Or, if they are already quite far into development, I’m unsure what the purpose of this discussion is beyond some minor UI tweaks.

Just accept GW2 isn’t what many people wanted it to be, and the developers have no interest in turning it into something else than what it is.

They are clearly focusing all attention on the casual-story element, and the WvW/PvP modes were just put in to generate game-sales. They are not part of the core game.

Hardcore / semi-hardcore wvw/pvp player? Arenanet would like it if you stuck around, but they’re not actually bothered enough to make an effort to keep you. You are not their target market.

You might as well ask for serious PvP-content in Farmville. That’s not what the game is for, so why would the developers put time into it?

And yes, numbers are very rapidly declining in WvW, as people are finally realising that there is no “future” for WvW, just more of the same.

I’m just going to squash this rumor right now. Before the strong negative feedback received after the interview at gamescom, every intention was for each color to cost 300g. Pending QA, that version was ready to ship for the feature pack.

When the flood of feedback came in, there was a flurry of emails working out the best course of action, and in the end Zach and Tyler worked the weekend to make sure this change could be made on time for 9/9.

So, just double checking to make sure I’ve understood right….

A decision on a change like this can be taken via email, and the change itself can be implemented by 2 people working a weekend.

So how does that sit with what we’ve been told about how “time-consuming” and “complex” other minor changes are, and how they can’t be worked on because they’d take an entire development team weeks or months, which could be better spent elsewhere?

You can’t have it both ways.

Either changes like this take weeks to push through all the coding, testing and bureaucracy, in which case the sudden about-turn on the price is suspect. Or, these things can actually be done within a few days in response to community feedback, and the only reason we haven’t had this done in other areas is due to either dis-interest or pure bloody-minded stubbornness.

So which is it?

Because apparently changing the Yakslapper title from 1,000,000 to 10,000 is simply too much work, but changing 300g to 0g isn’t.


And to the various white-knights here: If people were always prepared to be content and settle with what they’ve got now, wxp would still be character bound, commander colours would still be 300g, OS would still be part of EB, queues would still be black-magic, seige would still randomly disappear, and humanity would still be living in caves.
I think the phrase you are looking for when talking to the people who don’t want to settle for 2nd best and who want to push for the full potential in something is “Thank You” not “entitlement”.

I’m pretty sure they’ve had this Trick and Golem Mastery ready to ship for the last year or more. The vendor (put in 15 months ago) wasn’t called Traps and Tricks Outfitter by accident.

They just keep these stored away so they can release 1 each feature patch and claim to still be developing the game, rather than having literally nothing to add in a “Feature Patch”.

I wonder if they will ever be able to do anything at all that will not lead to people complaining like mad.
Heck I am almost certain that even if it was added and given for free people would still find something to complain about.

The price is steep, but it is in no way impossible to get.
300g is rather easy to get nowadays, especially when we no longer have repair costs, which basically means that the only thing that drains money in WvW is upgrades (since you can get siege with badges).

The problem is that there need to be gold sinks, and I know that I personally prefer a gold sink like this than something that would be “forced” upon my for simply playing (such as repair costs).

The fact that one person, somewhere in the world of billions of people, always manages to have a complaint, is not a good reason to shrug off the concerns of the vast majority. There are plenty of changes they have made that have been met with general approval. Culling fix, siege timers, party boon priority, finally getting around to account-bound wxp, kicking offline party members, even greying out dead name tags. Some people complained about those things as well, but the majority liked them.

However, in this case, the overwhelming majority think this change is utterly ridiculous. Therefore, it is an extremely weak argument to go “well, people always complain”.

Yeah, there need to be gold sinks. But why does the one, single improvement to WvW have to be behind one of the biggest gold sinks in the game? Now you’ll say that commander tags aren’t just for WvW, but PvE as well. Okay. Except, the commander upgrade is the only real improvement coming to WvW for many many months. PvE gets many improvements every 2 weeks that aren’t locked behind gold sinks. Where is the equivalent gold-sink in PvP? Where is the 300g entrance fee for Dry Top? Why is it that 10% of PvE improvements are locked in gold sinks, while 100% of WvW ones are?

How can you not see why WvW, which has been crying out for something, anything, for months, how can you not see why they’d be angry at the one scrap they get thrown, has one of the highest price tags in the game?

For months we are told “oh be quiet, we’re working on stuff, it’ll be ready when it’s ready”, then when it finally comes it has a 300g price tag. You do understand why that feels like “kitten You” ? Because I’m 99% sure that after the feature patch, there’ll be nothing else coming WvW’s way for at least another 6 months. This is it. Golem mastery and 300g for a different coloured tag. Well WOOP DEE DOO

At least use your real account DVon.

I mean, it’s nice that they’ve taken a suggestion on board, different colour tags is definitely something people have asked for, and it would be sort of nice.

But if this, and Golem mastery, constitutes the sum of all work since the release of EoTM….. are we really supposed to be impressed?

Obviously have to wait and see what else is announced, but I can already see Lordkrall posting about how generous and wise the developers are to have put up with the forum attitude, and to have still given us 3 new coloured tags!!!!11!! Arrow Carts: A solution to stop "MOAR SIEGE!"

A tier 3 tower or keep, full of superior seige, has taken a considerable amount of time and resources to build up by the defenders. It should be difficult to take, that’s the whole point. Being able to walk up to a fully upgraded tower with 30 guys, drop 4 superior rams, and take it in less than 5 minutes, that would be stupid. But it can already happen if the defenders aren’t on their toes, so if anything anti-ram defences need a buff, not a nerf.

The proper counter to a fully upgraded/seiged tower should be trebs. That way the attackers have to make an equal effort to the defenders in order to take the tower. Then the defenders are given time to try and rally together and go take out the trebs. That way we get to see some proper WvW action and not just PvD.

The problem is that trebbing is far too easily countered by….. other trebs. 1 or 2 trebs inside a T3 tower or keep make it pointless to try and treb an upgraded tower. Combined with ACs, this means the only way to take an upgraded objective is to either zerg it down with a blob, 5+ superior rams, and maybe golems for good measure. Or to try and sneak attack. This is PvD, pure and simple, and results in boring WvW.

So take a look at trebs before QQing about ACs..
