Mr Glass. I’ve been there. A lot. My guild and I used to post LFGs looking for 1-2 more people and we’d always say that we want a complete, non exploitative run and that we’re not zerker meta players.

9/10 times we get the zerkers join our party, demand that we skip, threaten to report us and try to kick people from the group we started.

Yeah… This is pretty much what the “meta mentality” is.

9/10 I make a LFG inviting all and I never have threats like that and we go at a normal steady pace.

I have the same problems as the OP. It is why I say that the whole “just make your own LFG” argument is a lie. It just plain doesn’t work.

Works for me

It works for everyone. This is just more people trying to make a problem out of a non-problem. It is a big issue on this game. People make stuff up to invent a problem to “fix”.

“It’s not a problem for me or this other person I was talking to therefore it can’t be a problem for anyone”? Really?

@OP, you have my absolute support.

No, its not a problem because it is only a problem for the very small minority.

So was marriage inequality. =P

Just that it doesn’t happen as often as some people like to make it out to be.

It was literally called “inventing problems” in the post I quoted =P

I’ll save you the trouble of quoting me again. You’re inventing problems. It is a non-issue that less than 1% of the population has ever dealt with. If you’re actually having this issue all the time then the common denominator is you.

Ok, I’m trying, with the utmost respect, to broaden your view point a bit.

If it is a problem for me, and for the OP, and for everyone else who posts here saying it’s a problem, how is saying that we’re making it up, that our experiences don’t matter, that it isn’t really a problem because it hasn’t affected the (entirely subjective) sample size of players who have specifically told you they don’t have this problem, in ANY WAY a helpful, insightful, or empathic comment?

Now, granted – the Staff AA does end in a whirl finisher, so in the occasion that you’re playing with a Camp Firemen Elementalist and can guarantee that you’ll be standing in a fire field 100% of the time, your Fiery Bolts help mitigate the damage woes. Do pardon me if I don’t see that as being a realistic expectation to have of your class, though.

It’s AA chain ends in a whirl finisher? How is that not amazing?

Maybe I’m just easily impressed but that’s really good!

Yeah, I’m one of the people that considers it an… unsavoury practice that promotes an atmosphere in the game that is quite unwelcoming.

The “tips” method mentioned above sounds like a much more palatable compromise to me. That way rather than demanding that your time is worth a certain amount you’re allowing people to put a value on the help you’re offering, and that value can be based on your performance after the fact rather than demanded up front for a possibly unsatisfactory service. I’d also like to believe that in the long-term you’d make more money from being magnanimous and open-spirited with your time than from being (to my perception) kind of miserly.

I’m not saying that I’d report you or necessarily agree with the other guy or how he handled the situation. Depending on my mood I’d probably either laugh and wish you the best of luck before leaving, or possibly if I was in a particularly bad mood, block you to make the LFG experience more enjoyable for myself.

*I’m taking “wrong” to mean morally objectionable, since you already have your answer for against the terms of service.

To be honest there’s probably a cultural element to it. I’m told that in some countries if your housemate came in and said “I’ve lost my house keys”, helping them look for them would be considered going over the top.

(No offence was meant by any of this post, I’m sorry if it comes across in a tone that wasn’t intended)

It’s not that there are only five in the world, just five for sale. People who have the skin sitting in the bank understands that nobody, well seller, wins if a price war erupts on an item that haven’t seen any way to get more of in nearly 3 years. And whoever holds onto the last one wins.

And for the Ghastly Shield, I count 8 sales in the last month not counting those that went to a high bidder and 3 for the Greatsaw.

Same thing is true with ticket skins and exclusive dyes although they take a hit more frequently with items returning to the Gem Shop or ticket exchanger.

Why is it none of you can view these for what they are? High end collectibles… limited time items of limited availability in a supply and demand market… what’s confusing?

What’s confusing is the idea that increasing the supply is somehow a bad thing for EVERYONE involved.

It isn’t. It might be considered a bad thing by a very few. But realistically, if an item hasn’t sold in 3 years, the people sitting on those skins aren’t in any need of the gold those items represent, and they can either cut their losses and accept that their gamble didn’t pay off (because it is and should be a gamble), or wait another 3 years for the cost of those items to return to the ludicrous pipe dream levels they believe they should be at. Since patience almost certainly comes easily to them.

Other people also getting nice things doesn’t actually affect you in any way besides ego.

Now, it would be different if it actually WAS like luxury cars, and they could be sold on again after use, but that analogy isn’t quite accurate to the reality of the situation.

And they absolutely don’t need 1200 range.

What I’d like to see is more unique specializations, for thief something not focused on dodging or stealth (but then again, those are so core to the class how far from that can you go without simply being a different class?)

Like GS thief
Hammer mesmer
Rifle Ele
Dagger warrior or guardian

Dagger Guardian would be a really interesting take on a Ritualist.

with HoT coming out all of their attention is on the expansion so they’re definitely going to do a rehash of one of the years,
and people who don’t want to save up and buy the skins have been nagging for anet to destroy the market.

My favourite event, which was the precursor to a lot of these map wide meta events was the Karka attack on LA. Boy oh boy was that great. The culmination in the attack on South Sun cove was epic. A two hour back and forth battle with hordes of champions and veterans while legions of Karka babies swarmed your feet. Folllowed by a running battle to get to the hive to kill the queen. By Ogden’s hammer was that a mighty fight. I look back on that and feel Tequatl and the Triple Headed Wurm falls somewhat short of that epic fight.

The best part of this for me was that every single karka on my screen was invisible haha!
I only had a vague semblence of an idea of where to aim ground-targeted AoEs thanks to everyone else’s particle effects, and occasionally a forest of downed player symbols would appear (even though I couldn’t see the players themselves) signaling that some enemy had just done something huge (I’m guessing now that they rolled) and I had somehow been lucky enough to survive.
It was a lot of fun.

- ambient sounds. I’d cut the music and concentrate on the “sounds of the jungle”. screams, shrieks, natural calls and roars, the wind, the fires, the creaking ships etc

- access to areas only at night or day. updrafts only available at night

Its a primal environment, let it play on primal fears

I love all of this. Especially the sounds and updrafts ideas.

Let’s put it this way: If the Guardian elite specialization had been ‘inquisitor/avenger/arbiter/paragon’ or just about anything else that has been thrown around , how many apologists of the name ‘dragonhunter’ would have thought that a ‘dragonhunter’ would have been a more apt name and clamoring for that change?

If the guardian elite specialisation had been inquisitor I’d be asking them to remove any overtly religious references. They’ve done a good job of doing that so far, and the specialisation isn’t anything to do with enforcing religious doctrine or rooting out heresy, no matter how close that is to making a pun.

Well, I guess it’s time for you to ask for the removal of religious references. Ironically, the name references exactly what you had an issue with.

A couple notes on Dragonhunter. We went with this name because we felt it was evocative of the medieval witch hunters. Guardians consider themselves protectors of the innocent. Followers of their faith be it in honor, valor, etc. The origin of the dragonhunter is a more subtle nuanced version of this. Guardians fight for justice and the dragonhunter faction believes justice is the eradication of dragons and their minions.

… I was going to go into detail of what I meant by the word overt (hint: “hunter” is not it) but then I realised that that wouldn’t address the issue here…

Witch hunter =/= Inquisitor

A part of me is not looking forward to it though, how am I supposed to narrow down the choice of spec lines to 2+Druid when I can’t even narrow it down to 3 at the moment?

Tome Change ideas

in Guardian

Rashagar.8349

Tomes are awesome concept and should be preserved in some form in the future. They really bring out the castery side of guardians and I think it should be embodied through a whole new spec.

1. pull the tomes from elite slot
2. drop them into utilities for a tome based specialization
3. functionality similar to kits
4. accordingly tone down the effects of skills

It makes sense in my mind at least You already have two in place and only need to come up with four more for a full spec.

Actually scratch that!

Make a new specialization that turns virtues into tomes that you can swap around as kits and tie them to spirit weapons. That way you only need one more to come up with. We already have offensive and healing tome, so the third one could be condi or boon oriented.

I hope this has grabbed dev imagination like it’s grabbed mine.

This is the poll on it. Has a pretty significant amount of voters (Over 3000, and was shared on several social media sites), and yes, over 50% is negative, with a portion neutral and the “highly positive” is very very low.

Your poll has 3 different flavours of ambivalence on the topic. Those 3 together far outweigh both support and opposition of the name. With that in mind, a name change would be rather silly.

Never mind factoring in the bias towards a negative outcome inherent in the testing methodology used. (eg. the issue of poll visibility for people likely to be “I love it” voters [people with no complaints are less likely to visit the forums and click on the change this name threads], no “somewhat positive but don’t really care” option to balance the “somewhat negative but don’t really care” option, no “reserving judgment until further information is released” option so people who fell into that category would be more likely to just not vote yet, etc.)

Thanks for posting by the way Jon. It’s always nice to hear from devs.

Edit for fairness It was a really good idea starting a poll on it, it’s just that the results aren’t properly indicative of an overall negative trend in the population as a whole, due to a lack of eliminating bias. If anything it just shows that the majority of the population don’t really give a toss.

If the guardian elite specialisation had been inquisitor I’d be asking them to remove any overtly religious references. They’ve done a good job of doing that so far, and the specialisation isn’t anything to do with enforcing religious doctrine or rooting out heresy, no matter how close that is to making a pun.
If it had been avenger I’d have rolled my eyes, but thought eh, it’s childish sounding but it’ll do I suppose, must have been an off-day in the office. Kind of generic and a cynical person would claim jumping on a current band wagon.
If it had been arbiter I’d have laughed my kitten off because setting traps doesn’t sound like the kind of thing that should be in the skill set of someone trying to settle disputes between two factions.
If it had been paragon I’d have considered it far too generically similar to guardian to stand out. It doesn’t highlight any of the differences in play style or skill set.

Dragon Hunter may not have it’s true meaning shrouded behind simple access to a dictionary, but it’s functional in conveying the theme and flavour of the specialisation. No other suggestions I’ve seen to date are similarly functional.

I like the tomes as a mechanic, however, I also fully support the idea of turning them into signets and bringing tomes back as a separate fleshed out elite specialization at a later date.

This is a win win, regardless of whether you like tomes as they are or not, because as an elite spec tomes can be made into something more than a gimmick while vanilla Guardians can get two powerful skills out of to replace their gimmicky versions in the mean time.

This is how I feel as well. I love the tome skills for how they feel, and I’d consider losing them in their current states as a price I’d be quite willing to pay to have them become a focus of a future elite specialisation.

There’s a word for this type of phenomenon that I can’t quite remember, but something like confirmation bias or an echo chamber effect or something.

Just wanted to add my voice to some suggestions I’ve seen.

I second making Close to Death or a weaker version of it the Spite grandmaster minor trait. Very elegant solution.
I fully support the people asking for a non-condition-damage grandmaster trait in the curses line.
And those saying that Reaper’s Precision has no place being a master trait by itself, should be removed entirely or rolled into something else like furious demise or vampiric precision or something. Fairly sure someone mentioned moving Terror down to replace it too, which would also get my vote, to make room for the non-condi gm.
I completely agree with One Staff Trait To Rule Them All.
And Blood Magic’s Vampiric, Bloodthirst, and Vampiric Precision should be at most 2 traits, 3 is pushing it.
Can’t really judge Deathly Invigoration until we see it in action. I appreciate what they seem to want to do with it.
However, as a yard stick, it should probably be on par with Warrior shout-heals in some way at least, since they’re both grandmaster traits and necromancers don’t even benefit from the healing it provides. Maybe granting something other than just flat health back, like Vigour for 2-3s to allies or something? I don’t know. Kind of fits the name and the theme. You could always rename it to Vigour Mortis.

I was lamenting the 25s cooldown on Weakening Shroud initially, but now I think I prefer it this way. 6s of weakness is a lot more noticeable than 2s, and if it’s 25s from when you entered death shroud rather than from when you exited it, that could be rather nice for those who like to stay in death shroud longer than a flash.

Still, awkward to keep track of I admit, which would be the main issue for me with the new iteration of it.
