Forgive us if we, the better players, don’t agree with your stance on raids because it will legitimately impact how much we enjoy the game (more than it will yours, casuals).
we get called elitists
I can’t imagine why haha!

… Dear god what have I stepped in…

Cleaning up the drops from black lion chests so that when I do miraculously obtain a key I can actually get a weapon claim ticket scrap with semi-regularity. =(
Celestial might be a thing for druid is the only other thing.
I still have to get a revenant appearance that appeals fully to me before I could comfortably call it one of my top picks.
You can’t do this any more I don’t think, but what I miss most from my Necromancer main is
“bah, screw this, I’m going to make some tea” Plague Form, set blind to auto
And I’m not blindly hating, I’m forming an opinion around facts that I already know.
1. I’m already losing interest in the Guardian as a class.
2. I don’t like currently existing trap builds because of how ineffective they are.
3. DH traits are based around weak concepts that either don’t mesh well with Guardian or are just lackluster in general.
4. DH really doesn’t effectively solve any problems the core class has.
5. There are other reasons besides DH as to why I am still not sold on HoT.I don’t need to drop $50 to playtest the DH because I have more than enough hours on my Guardians to know that this is not at all what the class needs to remain competitive.
That’s an interesting definition of facts you have there =P
Lets also not forget that Spectral Wall is an ethereal field and we will have a couple whirl finishers with reaper (GD from GS and SoulSpiral from Shroud). It also gives us access to Chaos Armor using Death’s charge. Lots and lots of cheese
Yeah I cannot wait to encase my Norn in a giant purple bubble!
I’ve found this thread interesting, though with some posters I was a bit unsure which game mode they were referencing with their posts. This post is probably going to attract a lot less attention than for example Mefiq’s is, but thought I’d make it anyway, cos why not.
Speaking from a wvw perspective, I can’t say I hate fighting against condi mesmers so much as it is I hate fighting against such ridiculous levels of stealth. Just because there’s no winning against one in a 1v1 scenario when they jump you while you’re going somewhere. You can possibly outplay one, or fight one off, or get to safety in time, but you have zero chance of killing one, which just isn’t particularly fun to play against, especially when the risk of dying is as high as it is. At the barest hint of an even playing field they just disappear, and then you spend the next 10+ seconds wondering if they went to roam somewhere else or are going to come back to try finish you off now that they’ve reset their hit points and all of your condition removal is still on cooldown (for example). Comparatively, if someone disengages when they start losing by simply using superior mobility it’s fine with me, because at least I know that’s what they’ve done, and I can feel satisfied with myself for successfully fending someone off. That satisfaction doesn’t exist in a fight against one of these kinds of mesmers, because of the 10+ seconds of stress wondering if the fight is really over or not.
What class do you play?
Not going to accuse or belittle you. When roaming solo you have to account for the fact you will run into groups of players. WvW is a big arena and while it may seem unfair that some classes roam well solo remember that any group will cancel out just about any solo build. So solo player run builds with the capability to disengage and engage easily.
Mesmer does not have strong chase especially condi mesmer. I could get away with satff 2 and some camera work but in terms of chasing I have no chance. So keep that in mind. Unlike thief mesmer mobility is better for a run than a chase. So sitting still wondering what’s going on is a mistake. PU mesmers have strong stealth but generally do not carry inspiration which means there condi management is bad. If you load them they will likely go down.
Thief can just disengage the fight. So can a well played warrior or ranger. Engi can (to a degree) with stealth. DD ele with FGS can not be caught. Of those Ele can directly resist a condi build that doesn’t have a good deal of power. Warrior can out run and fend off most attacks and condis. Thief can clear (some what) with decent stealth application and the right builds (sword, ss, etc.) Engineer has the hardest time dealing with condis but has strong stealth application too (with Kinetic in hand I can actually stealth pretty well vs a non pu mesmer).
Roaming is about who can outrun/think the other player. I out ran some players the other day by mixing teleports and water using no stealth. On engineer I have used juggernaut and rifle to run em for days. Thief can just out run anyone and short bow 5 is the mobility king. If you are solo roaming on a class that can not disengage well then you are running solo at your own risk. When I used to play thief heavily we used to say thieves only die when they overextend. This is true of all classes suited for solo roaming. If you never overextend no one should really be able to catch you (save a smart thief) all by them self. It really isn’t about dueling but out thinking the other guy. If you get hell bent on killing a player and you start waiting around for them or chasing to who knows where that is on you.
Right now imho zerg vs zerg is more of an issue overall that solo roaming imbalances. Simply because 6 out of the 8 classes can do it just fine.
Thanks for some of those tips, I hadn’t known about the weak chasing/condi clear capabilities. I’ll have to try abusing that more should this trend continue haha!
Yeah, my wvw roaming mind set was formed during my time with necromancer hehe so, whatever class I’m on these days, if I engage I tend to engage til the end, no matter how bitter it may be. =)
Where does it say PU in the title of the thread?
Condi builds have many variations. PU is a single trait, I know it’s a shocking revelation but it is possible to play Condi Mesmer without PU.
Have you tried playing without PU? How about without Scepter? Or without Blinding Dissipation?
I play with none of those things (sword/torch, staff) and can assure you it requires effort, skill and guile. I cannot simply “auto attack” someone to death…
Out of curiosity, do you find people still react more negatively than expected to playing against you when you play as condi mesmer but without those tools? (not meant in any sort of accusatory tone).
I know this is like a tangential conversation to the OP of this thread but I am curious where this derail leads.
Curses, now there’s another rune possibility that sounds like too much fun to put on my necromancer come HoT! =P
I hadn’t thought about Perplexity myself.
Another way of looking at it is, this has the potential to be a play style that actually rewards healing power investment, which is something that they’re meant to be trying to promote right now.
If they did implement something like this I can’t help thinking it’d be just a knee-jerk overreaction on their part.
Like, if it causes problems, fix it, but so far it hasn’t and I doubt that it will in any achievable scenario outside the pvp lobby.
If you lose many time get some toxic chat and yell l2p noob.
If it helps, whenever anyone uses “l2p” I always enjoy thinking they’re calling someone by their Mexican wrestler name, “El Toupee”.
Speaking from a wvw perspective, I can’t say I hate fighting against condi mesmers so much as it is I hate fighting against such ridiculous levels of stealth. I’m going to assume you find thieves frustrating to fight as well then?
My only counterpoint to that, really, is that I think Anet wants you to not engage 1v1 in WvW regularly. As a large-scale pvp arena, they seem to intend people to travel in groups, where condi mesmer isn’t really a problem. The ability of some classes to survive solo roaming is incidental, a consequence of giving them stealth (mesmer, thief, engi), mobility (warrior, etc.), or just all-around awesomeness (d/d ele). They just don’t care about solo roaming specifically, because solo really doesn’t matter, and they intend it to be that way.
So if solo mesmers are actually accomplishing significant things in WvW (retaking keeps, soloing a defended garrison), expect them to first kneecap the ability to do such things in the first place, before they nerf the class’s ability to fight 1v1. No surprises that that’s exactly what they’re doing about mesmers hiding in keeps.
Condi stealth thieves have been a lot rarer to come across than condi stealth mesmers for me, for whatever reason, the one time I did meet one alone I blinked and then saw I had about 6-8 different conditions on me including immobilise before I died a second later, never even saw a character model until I was already dead on the ground, and then only for a second. I can’t even comment if it was lag on my laptop’s part or what haha!
I amn’t referring to anything about why skills/traits should or shouldn’t be changed here, just to clarify, or how Anet should balance things, I don’t have enough experience with the class to make those kinds of statements with any amount of credibility, I was mostly replying to the posts hypothesising on why people hate conditions.
Aww, well that’s disappointing to hear (re: PvP). I was under the impression that this game was better than mobas since you still earn seemingly decent reward track xp with losing. (I’ve pvped enough to get like one and a half reward tracks and that’s about it), and the highest level of toxicity I’ve come across has been when one player affects a certain kind of other player’s gold per minute ratio.
Prob my engi. Been getting comfortable with the class in SW, even using a squishy build. Will def level a Rev, but will prob use a metric ton of scrolls and tomes, so I don’t have to do much actual leveling.
I was planning on doing a mixed leveling thing (like use a tome every time I gained a level), and then I realized that before lvl 80 all exp I earn goes only to leveling, whereas all exp I earn after 80 goes to masteries.
So since I have enough scrolls/tomes to hit 80 not doing so would be a massive waste of exp that could have gone into masteries instead, so I’m now in the insta level camp.
Does using a tome at level 80 do nothing for mastery advancement then?
I suppose it wouldn’t, it just didn’t occur to me.
I’ve found this thread interesting, though with some posters I was a bit unsure which game mode they were referencing with their posts. This post is probably going to attract a lot less attention than for example Mefiq’s is, but thought I’d make it anyway, cos why not.

So are you only planning on 4 runes of the trapper then? Or 5? I’m just curious what you plan on doing with the last 1 or 2 rune slots.
My necromancer is the only one of my characters so far that’s completed every part of the story so he’ll be the first to do all the new story parts.
I imagine though that I’ll be spending a lot more time in wvw after release so my ranger, guardian and maybe even mesmer will be getting some good time in there.
I intend on leveling up Revenant the slow way to see what that’s like, she might eventually see the jungle haha!
Only thing is I got the impression that they wanted ranger weapons to have more defined/specialised roles (taking bleed off of greatsword for example, nerfing shortbow direct damage potential, etc.) so I’m not sure how likely it is that they’d make a weapon that has a healing focus, direct damage, and condition damage all in one. If a weapon’s non-overpowered potential is represented by the number 100%, I’d rather have that percentage split between direct damage, healing power and mobility/cc (~35%/50%/15% seems how it’s roughly weighted in my mind) rather than it also having baseline condition damage potential on top of that. I do like the idea of burning being a traitable option like with warrior longbow or dhuumfire, since it fulfills the criteria of providing a noticeable change to the playstyle etc., but for the fact that I’d miss the extra possible daze on staff swap (which is why I was wondering if the daze could possibly be fit into any other skill without making it over the top, eg. being able to cancel the wisp prematurely to daze the target for 1/4 second or something) and I’m not sure if it’d become an automatic pick trait.
Necromancer has been my favourite since launch. Love it to bits.
Since others included it, in Gw1 I loved my assassin.
If they moved the daze from the staff trait onto one of the staff skills and made the staff trait apply burning on auto attack instead as it’s added effect, do people think that the trait would then become fairly mandatory for staff users? Or would it just allow for the possibility of staff being used as a hybrid condi weapon?
I want Bunny Thumper back xD
I played Gw1 but don’t really know anything about what this entails, every time I hear it it just makes me think of being able to summon hordes of rabbits/rats/pocket raptors etc. like necromancer minions.
I know it’s unlikely and most people were thinking if it doesn’t happen for druid it’ll never happen but I really would love a skinwalker/shapeshifting/transformations elite spec.
Anet really opened up a can of worms introducing a pure healer spec like Druid. Now they are going to be forced to address healing power coefficients so that it actually starts to make sense but you can’t address it for Druid alone since its a stat that affects all professions.
I think it’s a can that needed to be opened though.
Seriously, for the people having a hard time with reading comprehension and comparsion, I edited the one part that could have been seen as a misquote if you really really wanted to do so for the sake of pointing it out.
Hope this will help.
Reading comprehension is fine thank you. This OP is a very long-winded way of rehashing the tired old complaint of “I don’t like healing, don’t force me to heal” to which the answer is invariably “no one is forcing you”.
Look, the other game has overcome this problem, at least when I left seven years ago, druids were great damage dealers, great healers or great tanks, depending on how they geared and specced.
But, that is exactly what they’re aiming for here, it’s even what Irenio says in the post you were referencing that krumhur quoted accurately for the benefit of everyone in the thread. The only difference is that in this instance a druid specced for only being a great damage dealer (rather than a hybrid of roles) will most likely be called a ranger.
for a base profession that is all about pewpew
I think here might be where the root of your misconception lies, but I can’t be sure.
Yeah I’ve a feeling they’d have to make Natural Stride weaker if they moved it to the GM minor slot to keep it in line with Chronomancer. I also can’t really see anyone taking Natural Mender in it’s current form if it was in the Major slot.
As to the original suggestion, I’m not sure I like the staff cd reduction trait clashing with the glyph cd reduction trait.
I lost all my screenshots of my first year of gw2 when my last laptop broke. I had backed up all my real world photos just in case but hadn’t thought of doing it for screenshots. =(
That is adorable!
The search function here never seems to work for me so apologies if this has been asked/answered already.
How does keeping the names of our beta characters work? Do we need to make the character in a non-beta slot to place-hold the name for expansion release or will beta character names remain associated with our account for a certain length of time after release?
Shield block on warrior. I thought I couldn’t move while using it for the longest time.
Same here.
I have mainly small but regular moments like this.
I’ve lost count of how many times my ranger has used Maul when trying to swoop away because my mind is stuck on “2 = leap” from warrior sword for example.
I think it’s because it’s the most “human looking” face option.
My personal favorite is the second one in the following image:
I like the big eyes.
The 3rd on the top row is the one I used for my sylvari’s face.
I just liked it the best.
Oh Jesus…not another cry me a river thread. This is what you do:
1) Block
2) Ignore
3) Go on with life
4) Stop making these attention seeking threads
You realise that you could have taken steps 2 and 3 instead of posting here yes?
Maybe you and the OP aren’t as different as you might think. =P
Can’t not read the title of this thread in zefrank’s voice.
*goes to binge on Dear Kitten videos rather than get into the discussion
Jeez smh…
Samhain is pronounced ‘Sah-win’. With the emphasis on the first syllable. I know this because I’m a genuine Welsh-speaking Celtic person. Sah-win. Repeat after me XD
I’m SOOO excited there’s actually going to be Hallowe’en-ey stuffs
Please let there be the book thingie, because the QQing over it last year nearly drove me nuts XD
Being Welsh then you know there are diff forms of Gaelic in the UK. Scots would probably pronounce it differently as well. I was quoting the IRISH dialects but thanks for the Welsh Gaelic lesson as well. Though they vary it all means the same thing in GW1 and 2, the King returns!!! GAME ON
Irish here too! =) waves
(I mean, it’s hardly like we’re going to try explaining the whole linguistic Samhain/Oíche Shamhna thing over a forum, I’m usually just happy that we’re able to type fadas)
The main thing we should take away from this is that people with different mindsets and methods should not be forced together and that people should respect other people’s desire to play the game a certain way.
You can’t force them to play the way you want- the most you can do is not play with them – ultimately we should all just find people that want to play our way.
This is the core of the entire argument and I just can’t understand why people refuse to accept this. This is literally the entire reason why there has always been all the forum tears about the " zerk meta". This is literally the entire rationale behind ANET’s recent determination to kill berserker geared players…trying to capitulate to the massive forum cries of players who can’t accept this. Trying to force players with opposite mindsets to play together. I believe its the reason they abandoned dungeons…not wanting to deal with these forum cries regarding reworking dungeons for this same capitulation. I’m honestly surprised they are implementing raids (challenging group content) in light of this. I guess the 2/3 trinity is their caveat in that respect though…another obvious attempt to force these opposite mindsets together…however much of a bad idea that will be. ANET just needs to stop fighting against human nature here. There is a polarization that they are not going to overcome here….those that want to be “safe” and those that want to play on the edge.
where prioritising optimisation (meta) is “being safe” since it’s the most likely to yield a known return from the least amount of effort investment, and playing with a more diverse player population is playing “on the edge” since the latter is more outside your control, right?
I don’t like to see sexual talk in public chat. If it’s particularly bad and in breach of the ToS (by being vulgar) then it gets reported right there.
I’d much rather see an interesting or playful discussion about a topic that most people can relate to and enjoy.
To be fair – and exactly by that logic – I enjoy a lighthearted discussion about sex or sexy topics in /m or /t. The game is rated T, sex topics are hence perfectly fine. Ofc this is a world of difference from the harassment the OP was subjected to.
Here are the rules for you:
“You may not create character names or otherwise transmit, post, link to or facilitate the distribution of any sexually explicit, harmful, threatening, abusive, defamatory, infringing, obscene, hateful, vulgar, racially or ethnically offensive, invasive of personal privacy or publicity rights, or objectionable in a reasonable person’s view imagery or content.”
https://www.guildwars2.com/en/legal/guild-wars-2-rules-of-conduct/
So no, talking about sexually explicit stuff is not ok. Don’t do it in public chat.
well, sex topics aren’t inherently sexually explicit. Obscene and vulgar are very subjective terms to describe something which to someone else could be described as coy or any number of other things. “A reasonable person’s view” also changes dramatically based on a huge number of factors, geography being the one I tend to notice the most.
That’s why the only people who can judge this stuff are the people that were involved.
Everyone else is just cluttering up the thread with their own personal baggage (myself included).

Should I assume you already have trinkets? They’re the biggest stat increase items between exotic and ascended… I think… and also the easiest to get probably (don’t require crafting).
There’s very little difference power-wise between exotic and ascended armour, so if your main incentive is prepping for raids I’d say start with weapons if it’s only between those two.
In saying that though, I’d only do that if you’re sure of the weapons you most enjoy using/find most useful. Armour would be always useful for your character whereas you might want to weapon swap and experiment a lot with weapon choice (eg. elite spec weapon).
The other thing about weapons is if you use say greatsword and longbow you’ll need to increase two crafting professions instead of only one for armour.
As for activities, save up kittentonnes of silk…
Edit wow I type slowly…

This should probably get locked soon.
The personal-assumption-based name-calling has begun.
The fact that you think it’s about taking something away from you is what I find most fascinating/baffling. If I call you selfish, it’s because when I talk about being inclusive and welcoming for the sake of others, you think only about yourself and how it will affect you. Which I’m fairly sure is a more accurate usage of the word “selfish” than the one you’re using.
So by comparison taking trampling on my choices and ruining my enjoyment of the game for your enjoyment is not selfish.
Yes – non-meta players take something away from me : they ruin my enjoyment of the game, they take time away from me (by making runs take unnecessarily long) and make the experience very tense and un-relaxing ( because I’m tired of having to tell people how and what to do – to advise them and so on – I want to play with people who’ve done the content 1000 times and know it by heart). We are all allowed to think of ourselves and our enjoyment in the game – what I consider selfish is someone forcing you to play with them – I am not forcing any player to play “meta zerk” builds or join my party – they do so of their own will.
And people who aren’t in a position to be able to do this aren’t worth fraternising with, yes so you’ve said. =P
It’s not that I have something against them – I really don’t – but I’m not an NPC in this game – I’m not there for anyone to party up with me just because they want to.
In this situation I have no reason to party up with them or approach content together.Exclusion isn’t something that the game forces anyone to do, it’s something that people choose to do. It doesn’t matter to me what reasons someone has that makes them think it’s ok to do it. (Do you recognise this statement too? =P )
Yes – and it’s spot on – people will want Legendary Armor – they’ll want it fast and will bar anyone who isn’t going to be an effective part of that process from their groups.
Hey, I’m perfectly within my rights to judge you based on your stated beliefs and actions. Don’t be so selfish in trying to take that away from me. =P
This is true – but what I meant is that you’re not in a position to call my way of doing things wrong – because there’s no right or wrong way of doing things – there are just different ways of doing things.
The main thing we should take away from this is that people with different mindsets and methods should not be forced together and that people should respect other people’s desire to play the game a certain way.You can’t force them to play the way you want- the most you can do is not play with them – ultimately we should all just find people that want to play our way.
You are an NPC though, to other “elite players and farmers” anyway.
In a non-meta group you might be treated as a person instead! =P
I’m not calling your way of doing things wrong, there are much less vague and more insightful terms I could use to describe it haha! =P
Ok, I jest (slightly), but yeah, I hope you understand that I’ve mostly just been enjoying setting up contra-arguments almost solely by using your own rhetoric. I’m not trying to force you to do anything either here.
I think some people here are making rather baseless assumptions as to the contents of whatever was said. Only the OP, the people present, and the people she (hopefully) sent a screen cap to, really know, so I’ll leave it for them to decide the severity of it.
*Edit (I know, I was doing so well until I just had to add more): and hope that they manage to successfully account for their own completely understandable and equally unavoidable cultural bias (whether that is personal, regional, generational, or anything else-based bias) when making those decisions.
(edited by Rashagar.8349)
Though thank you for bringing it to everyone’s attention. And especially to the attention of the relevant authorities (Arenanet).
Satire all you want – I am perfectly within my rights as a player to ask for this.
I shall, thank you for being a good sport about it =)
And no – it’s not based “on what I’ve read on the internet primarily” – it’s based on observations made by myself in game.
That… doesn’t make it based on something more objective, you understand… The attitude I was referring to when I said “based primarily on what has been read on the internet” wasn’t, like, closet noobness or something.
And yes – even if it seems absurd to you if you want to take my right to play the game as I see fit and enjoy it away from me you are being selfish.
I’ve invested a great amount of time and effort into becoming a good player and an asset to others – I’ve learned my class, invested in the right gear, brought the most effective build, invested in a high-end machine to run the game as best as possible and have a very stable and powerful internet connection in order to have the lowest possible latency.
And people who aren’t in a position to be able to do this aren’t worth fraternising with, yes so you’ve said. =P
I have no qualms or problems with you either – if you can’t be that person that’s perfectly fine – we won’t play together and that’ll be that.
I know I amn’t necessarily the “you” you were referring to there but I just wanted to make it clear that I have no qualms or problems with you either.
there’s really no reason for you to judge how I select and filter those I choose to play with.
Hey, I’m perfectly within my rights to judge you based on your stated beliefs and actions. Don’t be so selfish in trying to take that away from me. =P
As to what will happen – we’ll have to see – I predict a stricter meta with much much more exclusion.
And I’m sure you won’t be part of the solution anyway, hehe.
Exclusion isn’t something that the game forces anyone to do, it’s something that people choose to do. It doesn’t matter to me what reasons someone has that makes them think it’s ok to do it. (Do you recognise this statement too? =P )
Now I’m gonna have to derail again some.
This isn’t a legitimate “meta”. It’s one of the worst misusages of a term in MMO discussion.
It’s not competitive
It’s not required to be successfulIt’s a preferred style for optimization.
These things are very different!
(Yes I will man the walls of linguistic purity until the last brick is torn away)
The word “meta” does not imply that it has to be competitive or required to be successful. Thanks for manning the walls.
Yes it does.
I am in awe of your ability to make a contrary statement while providing nothing to back up your claim.
Ooohhh look, I can do it too! =P
So OP need to pay attention to:
“Last boss should be full asc” and one of his replies “Agony resistance is not required.”
So asc won’t be required, they are just really expected.
It is just like saying a dungeon/fractal requires a full party, then we see several videos of people soloing those. It’s not what the statement says, but how people will react to the statement. If raid leaders and players think they’ll need it, they’re going to buy it, and the price is going to increase.
It is safe to assume that with things like GW2effiency, leaders will be requiring gear checks and forcing BiS, which means $$$ if you’re smart enough to pounce early.
That’s gonna be fun for the leader
leader: “ok. All 9 of you need to send me their GW2effiency link of your gear to make sure you are all full ascended!”
Some members: “what’s GW2effiency?”
Some other members: “I thought GW2 didn’t have gear checks?”
Rest: “Can we go already?”And then the kicking and finding a replacement…going through the same ordeal if they haven’t signed up for the site…yes, this will be fun
Just kick the overly demanding leader and get on with the raid =P
The Irish Gaelic pronunciation for Samhaim is Sow-en, Sow-an, Soow-en depending on the area you are in. It makes me cringe to hear people (hollywood and non) pronounce it Sam-haym. Almost as bad as calling male witches “wizards” or worse “warlocks” lol. GAME ON
Sow as in female pig (rhyming with cow) here. Just in case anyone was thinking of seeds.
I know I diss it a lot, but yeah. One of my pet peeves. Also whatever they were calling that boss guy in beta weekend 2 hurt my ears a little for similar reasons.
What 3 Specializations your most hyped for?
in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns
Posted by: Rashagar.8349
My list keeps changing based on my current thought processes but at the moment:
1. Reaper – I have so many ideas for what I want to do with various builds.
2. Dragon Hunter – I know it won’t do everything I hoped it could do but it’s still going to be a great addition to my roster.
3. Either Druid or Herald – I can’t really pick which I’m more excited about, they both get so much fun-looking stuff.
Will all of the Meta-Messiahs please hurry up and publish the exact builds you are requiring for each profession you’ll allow in your raid party? I’ll need detailed gear lists (weapon, armor, runes, sigils, trinkets) as well as skills to equip and a rotation for pressing my buttons. I’ll put my character together exactly as you require and practice until I am good enough at doing exactly what I’m told to please you. Then I will get the coveted chance to complete a raid in record-setting time. It won’t be ‘playing’ at all; it will be a job. But really, why play when you can work?
I don’t get why this is an issue for people. Make your own lfg that say “raid, anyone welcome”, or join one that is already made. The only time there are ever issues is when meta players join non-meta groups or non-meta players join meta groups. As long as everyone plays with like minded individuals, none of it matters.
Members of one group good-naturedly slagging the other is hardly unheard of though. =P It sounded like satire when I read it anyway.
I also read it as satire. I interpreted it meaning as, “meta players force all of us to not enjoy the game”. And I think that is silly. If someone is forcing you to play in a way you don’t enjoy, simply don’t play with them. It’s not like their is a shortage of meta or non-meta players, both groups have plenty of people to form parties with. When players post an lfg that says “80s, meta, path 123”, they are not trying to force you to play meta, they are purposefully trying to avoid playing with you.
Ah, yeah it can be hard to divine the thought process behind text you read on a forum sometimes. You could be right but when I read it I read it as poking fun at the attitudes like
To an elite player and a farmer another player is a resource – an NPC – a bot – something that gets something done
The “if you want to come near me you must play only the way I expect you to play based primarily on what I’ve read on the internet” and “I don’t care about any reasons you are less than perfect such as latency, age, or skill level” expressed by a few in this thread. And yet the other crowd are the “selfish” ones. Which to be fair, is a mind set that’s begging to be satirised.
The inference (or outright stating in some cases) that anyone currently not running zerker (ie. the current meta) is just being selfish despite the also stated myriad other reasons why they might need more survivability built into their gear (ie. latency and skill level mentioned in the first post, off the top of my head others might include gaming time constraints, in-game wealth/storage space making it unfeasible to have separate gear sets for pve [arguably the easiest content in the game currently so why would it need it’s own gear set] and wvw), but as has been stated, “reasons don’t matter to me personally so I’m just going to lump them all together under one easily-disparaged target group” is a hilarious mental disconnect that’s also ripe for satirising.
Never mind the “if other people get upset at being excluded from a group based on that group’s rather shakily proven but generally held opinions then it’s their own issue” argument, which always makes me laugh since it sounds to me like that part from the Simpsons “if you get hit, it’s your own fault”.
(Sorry if it seems like I’m picking on you with the quotes, Harper, you’re just the most to-the-point quotable)
But anyway. I might have gone a bit off topic towards the end.
As I see it, the worst thing that will happen is that the group of people who follow the meta will adapt to a new meta or switch to not following the meta, maybe even becoming more welcoming of alternate play styles mingling with their’s in the process. Neither of these outcomes are the end of the world. =)
joins in the gushing
Doesn’t compare to the soon-to-be gushing wounds of our enemies though! =D
you may have noticed that some Halloween-ish items already are appearing in the In-Game Store. You should know that more items that will be rolling out over the next few weeks, and they will include several popular items of the past
i swear to grenth, you better not reintroduce the 2012 rewards…
Greatsaw!
Greatsaw!
Greatsaw!
Greatsaw!
I don’t care about anything else. Maybe the scythe. But GREATSAW!
I don’t care if it’s a recolored version of it or something silly like that. PLEASE ANET!
I was there for Halloween. I tried my hardest to get one from a chest. RNG never gave it to me. It’s literally the only weapon I have ever wanted in the game and it’s too expensive to actually buy on the trading post. The Scythe Skin isn’t even available anymore.
These skins were under a stupid RNG system before and need to come back. Please!
greatsaw is still obtainable for those of you who REALLY want it,
spend several months of your life grinding to buy it like the rest of us did,
but if you decide you don’t want it that much,
then don’t remove its value for those of us that do.
Ooohh, déjà vu.
Thank you for the news Gaile!
I hope to be able to put time aside to enjoy it to the fullest this year.
If I had one request, it would be to have no Sylvari character ever attempt to pronounce the word Samhain. =P
