I’m very happy with the update. I hope that keeping “Save Yourself!” with PvE effect in WvW is not a bug/oversight. After the previous greatsword nerf I guess I’ve lowered my expectations a lot :p but I find this update much much better than the previous. We actually got something this time
Hey I’m running around in 13k HP but the 3,300 armor definately helps out c: Kinda childish DPS but with that toughness I can go into the heart of the combat use skill #4 on the staff and leave with a wall of reflection and AoE condition removal from allies, after that it’s like watch my team devastating theirs, and if more power is needed I switch to tome of wrath to give frenzy twice, now THAT is fun to watch :P
Simply no, if you like addons – go play WoW. Simple as that. Learn to play the games as they are meant to be played and stop complaining
I don’t know how to say this. This “open” system have it’s good points but since few days ago I feel at risk when I go with random people at dungeons. Let me explain …
2-3 Days ago, I started a party, as a leader, telling people what to do so there is no confusion and IF there were new people It would help them AND the team if they knew what to do beforehand. And as usual there is always a chance to get a jerk in the group so yep I got one, who was always rushing and disobeying, doing his own thing, sooo I kicked his kitten out of the group but It felt wrong so I PMed him telling him to stop act like an ahole and invited him back on. The dungeon run continued, we killed the mobs at CoF Magg path proceeded to the boss room with the acolytes we killed the eternal crystal and just when we did he and his friend kicked me out of the group. Pitty for them I went in first earlier so that destroyed the dungeon for everyone, not just for me. I personally think it’s unfair AND stupid to give so much power to the people.
I’d rather have party system where the party starter/leader call the shots, who stays who goes away, OR at least the vote should be based on the whole group, not just 2 and if only 1 disagrees, the vote should be denied. I mean come on, If I party with a friend, I can screw every single group, all I have to do is to enter first in the dungeons and kick everyone at the end. It’s a stupid grief and I bet there are people that love to do just that.
I hope you guys look at that issue. For now all we can do is write down the names of those jerks in notepad and deny them party. We definately need more tools though :/
Even though I really wanted my guardi to look like Logan Thackeray with the seraph shield and all, It’s really not worth it. I’m running GS/Staff build now for WvW and dungeon running and I must say it’s quite effective. On topic, If I had your options, I’d probably go Mace/Focus … sword is not good either :| Or well at least I don’t like the balance of the sword. First of all it’s not damaging but then, It’s not a support weapon like the staff is either, I don’t know who would use sword/shield combo nowadays other than for skin aesthetics. Correct me if I’m wrong but I don’t really see any real application of these two that can’t be done with any other weapon
I was getting hit for 10k when I was wearing no armor doign the bombing strat. Clearly, you are doing something wrong.
What if I provide you screenshots of my stats and the actual 7k+ critical the mob is doing to me. See the mobs don’t always hit me for 10k, but it’s more than enough to do it once. That’s like 80% of my MaxHP and then I’ll waste my heals and when I finally get zerged and run out of endurance, I’ll be a sitting duck, so please
It’s not poor play when you get hit for 10k on 3400 armor. Eventually you run out of “endurance” and you have to bend over and take it.
I prefer to see it as my Guardian warning her enemies that they would be wise to retreat, she is a norn after all.
Seriously though, I am under the impression that is you shouting for your allies to basically retreat behind you as you take the blows.
The funny thing is that, no one except you hears it :|
It would be really fun to hear “Retreat!” from allied guardi than, “I can outrun a centaur !” plus it has some strategic effect, I hope ANet look into that.
@Asurawrath I don’t know when this video is made but there is NO way for guardian to currently deal 9k critical damage to a mob in that room today with a greatsword. I see he’s wearing CoF armors, but they are not better stat-wise compared to the draconic exo craft. Probably this guy also went 30 on zeal too, which is quite useless now, so please
Stop asking for bigger drops guys. If it’s dungeon difficulty – okay, but asking for bigger drops is wrong. Even though it’s easy to hit endgame gear (as promised and delivered by ANet), it’s just wrong to get exotics out of each champion mob.
Just think about it >.>
Imagine if every strong mob dropped rare the least, imagine how would that harm the already weird economy.
Yes I say weird, because it’s really weird for me to see a buy order for less than the NPC price, and that’s happening on the most blue/green items and it wasn’t like that in the first few days when the TP got fixed
From what I see so far, every succesfull group was successfull due to the mesmer in their group, now, genius pro people, I’d like to see you doing it without a mesmer with only 1 warrior (doesn’t matter, banner or glass cannon)
You will start running eventually c: And since your guardian buddy won’t be able to give healing symbols so often you are kind of screwed.
Don’t get me wrong, I like how CoF is atm I’m doing it daily, I’m fully exotic (including jewels) and with pugs it’s as far as my experience go – impossible. I don’t mind kiting. It’s at most 8 silver in repairs and I earn 20 at the end so it’s not so bad
It’s not like anyone else hears your shouts, and yes you should use retreat when you are retreating, or well, running to somewhere

Overally Guardian is good class IF played right!!
If you are noob you are basically going to get smashed a lot.
And people mostly complain since last update mainly because it directly or indirectly screwed up MANY builds, including making the Greatsword a less relevant weapon. And well yes, the skill change. Not that it’s a big of a deal but I still find myself clicking #3 and expecting to whirl but I leap instead, or I want to create a symbol but whirl first (which messes up my combo xD) but few more weeks I should be okay i guess. It’s not easy to forget 300+ hours doing the same thing all the time.
Sure in pvp you have very limited range but you are one of the only classes able to walk away from a thief in a 1v1 situation.
That’s only true if the guardian is smart enough and run back to his zerg so that the thief could get scared. I’ve fought many thieves and I’m playing with one shoulder to shoulder. It’s amazing class

The worst of it all is that they just made it 1-1-1-1-1-1 character. Hell you don’t even need to spam it, just right click on it for auto-attack and there you have it, in PvE all you have to do is running in circles like an idiot. Of course the kill time is increased this way, who cares, after all the game manifesto was all a gimmick to make up a hype train. I’m extremely frustrated to ANet, this is the most irrational nerf they have done to any of the classes, and they don’t have the guts to respond and/or explain in either one of ALL the major Q.Q threads. Greatsword is EXTREMELY boring now. Imagine how a guy with legendary GS would feel. I pitty them, since I use only a mystic claymore which is not that expensive but sheesh :|
I do feel let down. PvP with guardian used to be fun, then sPvP happened :/
As stated in another thread, I have no idea why would you listen to the minority of sPvP players, who, infact, could reroll in exactly 10 minutes and rebuild their traits/stats completely free AND quickly.

IV Endu, your points for not nerfing retaliation are not related to the reasons they did it in the first place. Having endless retaliation while doing good to great dps is too easy mode.
I play a thief and the only warriors or guardians that I can take down quickly are glass cannons and noobs. They do huge DPS and it depends on who gets the jump on who. It is a trade-off. I think it is justified completely. You can still have it up constantly, it just is more difficult now.
Retaliation is still stackable 100% of the time, it’s just the guardian’s “fieldability” being nerfed IMO. So yet it’s a smokescreen, and not having official response from ANet somewhat confirms it.
PS: It might be 120% of the time actually. Just look up the thread about it
I’m not a noob mate, I run in fully exotic gear and pretty kitten trait build. I also forged my GS in the mystic forge. I’m not a noob and I know my character’s strengths and weaknesses. And my gf is a thief, so add sick conditional damage and healing stealth every once in a while. We are team with somehing more than laggy VoIP program, we actually talk in the same room (nod). I also know how to whirl to maximize my damage output since unlike warrior’s whirl, ours needs some adjusting because otherwise it’s extremely inefficient x.x
Also wall of reflection beats retaliation at any given day, and the healing dome its on the tip of my tongue but i forgot the skill name…was it Sanctuary ? is pretty sick too
It took us awhile to do it, and it surely wasn’t easy, and it required A LOT OF team effort to do it, while our enemies were chaotic. Obviously if the 6 were team we would’ve died in the first few seconds.

I’m starting to believe that all this has been done to kitten guardian’s greatsword “fieldability” and not the retaliation. Leaping out of light combo field still gives you 10 seconds of retaliation, yeeey, but then again you can make SoW every 1 minute. Although Wall of Reflection is considered a light combo field o.O
IMO using WoR is wrong for combo field, just make it normal ANet
Ah sorry about the double post, I couldn’t find “edit post” option, but it really bugs my mind.
So the field’s retaliation was 1 second right ? So the second you step out you momentarily lose it, you have to be in the field to have it on. But then again, I get 10 second retaliation if I leap out of light combo field, and I’m really feeling like, wth is going on here. Do you guys put much thought when you balance stuff out o.o ? I know stupid question, I guess you do but … I could still put 15 second retaliation on me if I find this skill usefull, which I don’t.
So the real question is, are you doing this because you want to make retaliation used only when absolutely needed, or because you want to limit the combo field usage. I don’t get it :/
I could care less for a boon, but with the increased duration they took my only combo field away. My build is fully on greatsword both in combat strategy and traits build. I used to make it so I could use the cleansing bolts and so my party members could shoot out remove conditions. I don’t really see retaliation as a good choice in PvE O_O
I have low health points, I run around in exotic knight’s armor so I don’t get hit that much and if I do I don’t have a lot of HP to withstand all that damage. It’s not like retaliation is absorbing and reflect x.x
I am just like the OP wondering why would they do this. I do feel a lot useless now in dungeons, not that I did much, I couldn’t tank mobs anyway, and now I get no bonus DPS and no combo field support. I’ll just make 3k+ damage with the whirl every few seconds, but basically every other class would out-dps that amount in 10 seconds.
So basically guardian is no good for DPS (with greatsword that is), it’s not a tank either and I want to ask, why did you really change this part.
Could you please think about switching the field’s boon to w/e I don’t really care, I just want my low CD light combo field bacl :| And no I’m not going to switch over to hammer if that’s your intend, i’d rather switch the profession. Hammer is granted a good DPS wep but it’s extremly slow and inefficient by my playstyle. I like to move around, and I don’t see how could I do that after all my skills go into CD.
I’d really like some input from someone at ANet, why would you increase the CD of the field.
My second weapon is staff and I do have light combo field with low reuse but
a) DPS is halved than what my GS can do
b) I get 10 seconds “reuse” of weapon swap
c) I don’t really want to use staff as my main wep, it’s extremely supportive, I don’t like it.
I used to win 2vs6 in WvWvW with my girlfriend thanks to the combo field and being almost always immediatelly cleansed of any conditions. Now THAT was nice. And I can assure you that I didn’t use the retaliation much in PvP. It was like, field → whirl → run to leap range because people start to run → leap → pull back to me → whirl again → Symbol again to cleanse any debuff and extra DPS from field damage → repeat → ??? → profit
And now it’s gone v.v

I’ve done and keep doing magg path and “the trick” is to see who actually is magg following and then have this guy to run at the furthest point after the mobs are cleared and all. He won’t move on his own yep, he is a follower NPC.
That is why you have fire extinguishers for no ? o.o
I’m not very good, I was crying that path 1 is too hard, don’t get me wrong, but that lava field IMO is one of the easiest parts for me in that path, and maybe the bombs, but it’s fun because in some pugs we manage to fail it because of the countdown ^^" or someone “decides” to DC at that moment and it’s kind of bad :p
But originally you should make sure he follows you and clear the path then have some of your party to remove the extinguishers and fight it out
Guys please stop doing your emo dungeons which you recall stupiditly easy and go make CoF path 1 with a pug. It’s totally imbalanced. The boss heals way too much, maybe the devs can code the healing rate depending on the party, but unless you are with full contact/dps party, you’re screwed.
So far from my observation a guardian, thief, ranger, 2x warriors is THE dreamteam for that bad boy, anything else struggles and have high chance of failing, especially the nuckers different than necromancers, but necromancers DPS is joke compared to the rest. Condition damage other than burn/bleed/poison is pointless. This is not right !
These days I start building parties, and I ask for specific class (yes, because otherwise its impossible) and I feel bad when I have to say no to someone and he’s like “but i didn’t know the classes matter”, well sorry dude 2 days ago i thought the same thing, now i think different. This is lame in my opinion. ANet claims it is social game, well I’ve been in 3 guilds already and they all sucked monkey balls. I always team up with pugs and I do enjoy it, whoever says that gw2 community suck is blindfolded kitten ***. I’ve met great deal of people just by inviting random people. But that’s not the point, the point is that I find myself kicking people, acting like a total kitten and removing people who just want the same thing that I do and I must say it’s not nice. Infact I hate it, but the way it is now, ANet doesn’t give us any other choice.
Unlike the “pro” players here, I like to help people, and if you are too “pro” to give a hand to someone in need, I have 3 words for you – go f*** yourself

I’d rather see you fixing the boss heal bug on CoF path 1 before going after the exploits, because if the dungeons were truly a fun people wouldn’t need such a trickery.

Besides the thief does 7 seconds poison on every 5th attack or so or was it 3rd, not sure. So yes I’m pretty sure the boss is constantly poisoned
Depends on the party. For us just a ranger was enough. Never play dungeons with thieves because they’re rare or something on my server’s pve, so I wouldn’t know how those fare.
I’ve seen eles be very useful against crystals too with meteor storm.
Actually it’s the thief that helps me A LOT in magg’s path with caltrops on evasion crippling all of the enemies so I could use wall of reflection/shield of absorbtion to save of us few seconds of OP damage :<
Hey there guys. As some of you know the dungeons system is quite hard for some people, myself included, so I resorted to this final step :| Asking the GW2 community for tips or heads-on on what am I doing wrong, at least that.
So here’s the deal. I play a guardian (gear info later on) with my girlfriend who plays a thief and almost always adding 3 “randoms” to our group although these guys seem well fitted anyhow (CoF armor exotic set)
So far I’ve tried paths 1 and 2. To me path 1 appears to be the easiest, that is until you reach the boss :x but more on that later.
So I’ve developed an Armorsmith and Leatherworker both to 400 to craft gear for the both us, and this brings me to the gear/build side of the topic.
So my guardian runs in Knight’s Draconic Heavy Armor set, my girlfriend set is focused on power, condition damage and vitality with superior pirate runes (my guardian does not yet have runes poor kitten, but i’m looking for something with magic find anyway)
I run in sword+shield and a mystic claymore as main weapon. My traits are fully offensive to balance out the knight’s armor and for the most part that makes me a hard nut to crack in both PvE and WvW and I’m dealing pretty nice damage with the greatsword. I use the sword/shield combo to push mobs around
In dungeons my girlfriend uses the Tear of Grenth daggers and CoF pistols and she mostly uses the daggers against bosses for poison so we could lower their heal rate (ahoy -33% heal power _) and other conditions as well
So here is the bugger. In path 1 everything goes smoothly as soon as we reach the last boss. We read some guides and figured that going headfirst at the boss fully DPS should work so that’s what we did, I even activated stability fied so the boss doesn’t push us around but after 10-15 seconds the crystals are so much that we can’t outdamage his heal and this is where every single path 1 run ends for me :| With no party under no condition I have finished this boss, beyond that the poor effigy can’t really kill me alone.
Path 2 is a bit more tricky but it’s quite fun until we reach the part where we must defend magg :| There is no possible way IMO to kill 3 of these elite mobs in under 20 seconds for the next 3 minutes, I don’t know on what steroids you must be to achieve that. Anyhow one possible solution that actually works is to run like fool until you die then quickly go back to the waypoint and run back in to die again. Obviously going this way is quite … expensive. But at some point all the ranged burning and ranged AoE damage is simply too much to handle even with build like mine.
It’s really frustrating to me. I should have relatively good gear since you can’t craft anything better, except maybe legendary sword but we all know how much time that takes. I can take a beating, I do make decent DPS from what I’ve observed in youtube my guardian is throwing heavier punches than the youtube ones (only one german guy makes 1/3th more damage, no idea how, perhaps he’s with berserker armor, contrary to my knight ?)
Anyhow this post is already getting too long. It’s a wall of text and a bit of bitter frustration. I don’t want to give up on dungeons, I like the “no trinity” setup, my problem is obviously not that. I just want to kill the godlike bosses and I don’t know how. Obviously I’m doing something wrong since from what I’ve read around these forums, there are actually groups that clear the dungeons under 10 minutes (unless that’s bugabuse i have no f**** idea how they do it) while my dungeons cost me close to 1 hour (the succesfull ones where we beat the boss)
So any tips about gear (guardian and thief), trait bulds, strategies are welcome. Please don’t troll. And if you are wondering I’m playing at Underworld(EU) if you ever wish to team up.

P.S. Yes we do utilize combo fields, especially me. In PvE so far I’ve figured that with symbol of wrath and both whirls I easily remove conditions, and the leap attack gives me a nice 10 second retaliation but it’s still not enough :|
Here is some background story. I play since head-start and I got to lvl 80 in a matter of week or less not sure :X
Anyhow I had done my storyline and my girlfriend was slowly catching up. At level 55 she asked me to help her out in “Light in the darkness” story ( Yes, some of you might know where Im heading ).
Anyhow we fought our way through until we reached the “final stage” and for once I stopped to look around and just enjoy the game and then I heard it _ That awesome soundtrack :X
