What’s wrong with ym understanding of time? What’s stopping them from setting different time settings for different continents that have nothing inbetween. You can’t even guest in a north american server. Also I never cared to know when the north americans get their reset.

Dailies reset at 00:00 GMT, So those living in the same time zone as the server have their dailies reset at 4:00 PM PST (which is GMT – 8:00)

I thought that’s just for the European datacenter. The NA one having its own time settings o.O

PS: Either way the update should’ve been held back if they were doing work on it last night and release it a lot earlier today. This way they could’ve catch the bug a lot earlier and disable it on time, without screwing players. Now I’m 1 day behind half of my server’s population because I wasn’t lucky enough to tackle this achievement. And excuse me if I’m wrong but, I see no other way of farming ascended amulets, other than obtaining through laurels. For reference, I had both ascended rings few days after fractals were added to the game, so yeah, I’m willing to grind for the best stat, for now >.> although screwing me up big time, is bad

Well a lot of us are frustrated. Even more so because it seemed to me more like “beat the clock” challenge rather than “daily”. Especially with the outages that for some reason rolled me back.
I take it they save user data to the database every 5-10 minutes or so, how about you save data when someone is forcefully disconnected too ? For the first time since I play this game (since headstart) I feel so frustrated :|

To the people with superiority complex, kitten off !

1) The achievement wasn’t registering all combo finishers so please, cut it out playing pros, because you are not, you were lucky to have the right classes

2) There were, at some points, forced disconnects/outages that beside being annoying as kitten, ROLLED BACK the character for ~5-10 minutes.

Yes I got disconnected 2-3 times when I reached 80% and came back at 20%. Yes I’m kitten about it and If I could I would’ve strangled the dev that was doing this achievement.
Not to mention that the update came SUPER late for the european servers and we had like 2 hours to complete it. Yes the other tasks were extremely easy, and I already had the events done, so no time waste there, the bugged light fields and leap/whirl finishers forced me to fight mobs of ALL LEVELS (yes I actually ran though the whole Tyria) to find the right mobs so I could

1) One shot them with finisher
2) Strong enough mobs to cast few combos with my guildmates

Yes eventually we found out that mesmer have 90% chance of success with mirror blade and whatnot, and me and my girlfriend managed to finish it on one of our accounts, but then I had 2-3 minutes to do 80% because of the rollbacks I had all night.

P.S: And seriously who doesn’t know what combo is in this game after it’s been out for around 6 months should really rethink their playstyle. The least most toons have self combo initiation and finishers, especially guardians with hammer/greatsword

You like medium armors? I dislike 90% of them because they are not appealing to me. Yet I transmute the crappy armors on my alts with the few ones that I like. Another activity I like to do is, mixing skins from different sets and retaining the bonus of the better gear. Aww Yeah!

Me and my guildies went arah for the first time ever last night. We wiped the first time, because frankly we had no idea what we were doing and he ate 10 grubs while at it. However we kicked his kitten 3 consecutive times by doing 3 paths yep. I don’t think lupicus needs a nerf. Although I must admit he is a lot harder than the following bosses. We didn’t have a specific organization either. I just shouted in guild chat whoever wants to go there, so we ended up with 2 guardians hammer warrior a mesmer and a necro which got replaced with a thief afterwards. It is not a hard boss although he is not forgiving one. You screw up and you’re dead.

P.S: I was doing melee damage to him the whole time with guardian. I don’t see why ppl with no ranged weapons are being kicked from PuGs o.o

Unfortunately you can’t save, say, 100 of them and just level an alt quickly to 80 that way.

Even though GW2 is easy and casual appealing, leveling shouldn’t be done this way and I’m strongly against this unless the vial is soulbound.
You should go to lower level places, doing events with the new players. Not skip the entire game even if alt.

If you want to level an alt like that, it’ll cost you.
8 crafting professions = 10 levels each = 80 levels – have fun

Its not so hard to teleport yourself to the heart of the mists from virtually ANY spot of the map, even WVW and then get you back to that same spot.

We tend to do some multiplayer gaming in our free time, you know, call of duty and stuff ^^ in which he gets worse FPS than his windows machine just FYI with the Beta nvidia proprietary driver which is rumoured to boost the linux driver performance as much as with 50%

I disagree. I run a guardian with Knight gear. And I end up tanking all the mobs while the damage guys … do damage, simple. And as soon as I die, my group wipes. So yeah, I’m pretty sure PVT > MF anyday. Screw the MF, since 170% of 1% drop rate is nto much of a game changer, but the bunker build IS. When you realize that, then you should speak your mind

Elementalists as it is ARE OP, that is if you know how to play them. As a guardian and warrior I find elementalists being the 2 extremes for me, very easy and very hard, depending on player skill. So yeah, you have plenty of skills, learn to use them.
Swapping weapon sets IN combat is just bald and stupid. I’m pretty sure gamers will be able to do it with ease neglecting the fact of inventory taking up part of your screen, and you are being egoistic if you think this is OK for everybody. Although I can swap weapon sets while running around, my father for example wouldn’t if he was to play gw2. And that my friend is unfair player advantage what you are requesting, you can shove it you know where.

You are heavy armor user, check out the game and see which classes get speed signet and what gear do they wear. It would be stupid to have a guardian run as fast as a thief…seriously, be realistic guys.

Being a defensive class, 10% damage reduction makes more sense than 10/25% run speed.

I for one think that ANet made a great job with the guardian. I enjoy playing it as I’ve played dagger/tank in most MMOs I really find myself in the guardian/thief. Keeping in mind their manifesto by getting rid of holy trinity, I don’t think we need more boosts nor nerfs.

Can’t wait for an expansion to see what ANet has in store for us and of course the other classes.

OP you should try water elementalist.
Also it shows how low knowledge you have of the game claiming that the only viable classes are guardian for support and warrior for anything else.
Warrior can be a great supporter as well, just saying, beside being a superb damage dealer. Thieves plague the battlefield with their stealthiness and damage bursts, engineers are annoying as hell with their bombs and turrets and flamethrowers.

The game is very well balanced and it avoids the “holy trinity” very well. The guardian is not a healer. If you think a single guardian can support your whole group while you are facerolling a boss, you’re going to have a bad time. Same goes for healing elementalist. Most guardis go for AH build, which is kind of egoistic. Sure we heal ourself like crazy, which given our health pool is OK.

Yes you can play a healer or a boon controller, but the real purpose of a guardian IMO is the frontline pushing the zerg back and this way protecting the groups behind. It is how I roll anyway. Get in, struck confussion (not the skill, the real feeling) within the enemy, get the hell out while most of them have targetted you. Or if the zerg is of ranged toons, just pull them closer to your zerg with the greatsword. If your zerg is good, the pulled enemies will most likely die.

1) Metro UI is just a revamped start menu that can run HTML/Javascript apps inside of it
2) You still have the desktop
3) You can completely remove Metro UI and get the good ol’ start menu back

Question: Have you tried Windows 8 for more than few hours?
I think it’s a great OS that takes less resource than Win7 runs great and its more convenient to use once you let go of old bad habbits. Not to mention that boot and shutdown times are unprecedented!

For me Blizzard and Valve are nobodies (personal statement) as I don’t play their games because I don’t like the games. I give a good credit to valve for bringing us cheap games through Steam though especially when they are on sale I just love it, but that’s about it. Valve going to linux means just a few games of the likes “Left4Dead” “Counter Strike” “portal” “half life” and all of the likes going linux,
if you deal with your OS.

Not to mention that they’re aiming for Ubuntu and I’m not sure how many of you linux lovers enjoys ubuntu/debian.

PS: All of the UEFI fiasco is because of the MBR exploits. People blame Microsoft for making insecure software while the exploit is not within the OS itself. There’s your answer to the claim.
Infact Microsoft writes the most secure code, it just have dozen more people trying to exploit it.
Also most manufacturers allow you to disable secure boot although some doesn’t and that is why people cry. It’s not like you don’t have the option though. Fight the secure boot by being a good consumer. Buy the stuff that allows you to block it.

Hmmm, nah I’ve killed a lot of people with it. The 1200 range, 2 second CD projectile is quite imba. Add the swiftness to catch up even faster to an enemy or god forbid closing his path with line of warding.

The laptop is Acer TravelMate 5742G I work on it and if you learn to read, my problem is not that I don’t get full range bar, my problem is that it disconnects me from my router network every few minutes even when I’m actively downloading unless I plug a cable in it. The laptop is with the Broadcom wireless card, I forgot the exact model. It has no physical On/Off switch so the module wasn’t even active when I installed SuSE at first, only after the initial updates it detected it and I had to run a command to install the broadcom firmware. And that’s what I ended up, a NetworkManager that disconnects me every few minutes. Not to mention that the download speeds and request times were off the charts.

It says that Blizzard will release a Linux version of a game to test the market before doing more, but it doesn’t say it’ll be their only game in some years, as Ravenmoon worded it.

I’m pretty sure it’s a matter of interpreting. Also I did not read it from phoronix so I might’ve caught up on the writer’s prism. AFAIK they do have native linux WoW client but they just don’t release it to the public.

Nvidia is too focused on the mobile market and it seems they are going for their own console.
Valve will publish only their own Source games to linux after investing some millions of dollars
Blizzard will have only 1 game client for linux in some years.

Is this the future of linux gaming? Google can prove what? They might be everything but they don’t really care if you can run the latest installment of Assassin’s Creed on your linux box o.o They care about their software and I haven’t seen them making games yet. Like real AAA games, kinda like GW2 or something

It all comes down to this. Linux user base is so low, it doesn’t really have a say. It’s up to the developers if they want to port or not. And it’s most likely the latter because the first requires millions of dollars of investment to make it work. Now answer this question … why would I want to invest into linux as a game dev when I have perfectly working game title on windows and mac? It’s unwritten rule that most of the linux users don’t like to pay for their software. Some of them won’t pick up my software just because it’s not open source. No offense but in the end it all comes down to money. And linux is not a viable option for that at the moment.

It’s the same reason you still have more and more iOS developers, because iOS users are more likely to pay for their apps. While majority of android users run around with rooted phones and allowed installation of unsigned software (a.k.a. pirated software)

I usually ignore trolls, but this deserves to be brought to general attenction. I haven’t seen such issues for some years, and I find it quite hard to believe. But even so… Let me understand, you sent a ticket to who? I doubt the OpenSUSE community would ever say something like that, which leaves… You sent a ticket to the laptop’s vendor, didn’t you? I wonder if you even checked if there was a driver for your wireless card in the repositories… Do you even know what a repository is?

I’m saying this because it looks like that most people who posted here and are against a Linux port identified themselves as “developers”, yet shewn to be quite ignorant about how Linux or OSs do work. A few people actually brought up interesting points about why a Linux port isn’t viable now ( such as Linux being just starting to look like an interesting option for developers, but such things need time ), but the others mostly spoke out of their plain ignorance or prejudices on the subject. This shouldn’t be a Windows vs Linux topic, if you want such a thread create a new one and start jumping at each other’s throat there, surely I won’t bother reading what you’ll say there. But as for this thread, I’d really like to see people discussing about a Linux client politely, using arguments that aren’t dictated by plain ignorance or prejudice.

I’m an advanced user. I have both Windows and Linux so basically I know what I’m talking about. Do I know what repository is? You are hillarious really “clap clap”. I actually administer 10 linux servers compiling and modifying existing software, and yes every now and then using the package repositories. Both official and unofficial.

Yes, I’ve installed quite a few drivers for my wireless. I even used ndiswrapper but to no avail. Yes the wireless was working but it was dropping me every few minutes c:
The range bar was at 60% at all times. To compare, under Windows this bar is FULL and I never drop. It is also full on my iphone.
No I’m not your average Joe, I did not send a ticket to my manufacturer. I actually used both the forums and official websites.
Not to mention that one of the drivers I installed messed my system so bad that I couldn’t boot into KDE without running in rescue mode and manually cleaning it up. I don’t remember such thing happening to me after Windows 98.

In the end sometimes its better when only 1 guy is calling the shot. I for one actually like Microsoft as a software developer. IMO microsoft and google make the best software these days. Yes there are security issues, bugs, and stuff as someone mentioned above, but they feel like less of an arrow in the knee to me. And that makes me a happy customer.
It’s one of the reasons I went for the “walled-garden” that is iOS and not the “open” android. Again that is personal opinion.

Also to get back on topic. I think that GW2 is designed for Windows because the “Mac port” is not really a port. AFAIK it uses somekind of emulation that is officially supported by ANet. I’m pretty sure they would’ve support the Wine emulation if there was only one linux distribution

In retrospect, I’d like to see an OpenGL game look like the upcoming Crysis 3. Then I suppose we can talk about OpenGL being up to date.
And besides, I made the assumption of GW2 being written by design to be played on windows because of the way it works with the OS and how it feels.
I don’t get that when emulated with Wine BUT yup, it might be the emulation talking.

I would love to see mini preview of the screen in aero task bar like Aion did.

P.S. I don’t see why people keep calling Windows 8 a walled garden. Granted Metro UI might not appeal good to everyone but I don’t see who stopped you from installing 3rd party apps downloaded from …. somewhere. I find the Win8 marketplace more of a convenience

OpenGL is not up to date, OpenAL is close but nothing like audio on Windows with proprietary driver. All this “open source software only” idea is outright stupid. As a developer myself, I don’t want you to touch my code. It’s a matter of principle.

Standartized? Maybe, maybe no. Windows 8 runs on ARM devices now, and it introduced a lot of new APIs that will soon deprecate the current APIs games like GW2 use. Also some porting that needs to be done.

Windows is the only OS with 20+ years of backwards compatibility. Please don’t deem the most complete OS currently on the market being idiotic because your majesty wants to be “free” and “open” and all that jazz. They have APIs currently supported that were made probably before you were born.

Seriously, all you linux “gamers” can brag about is a definitive Steam port that will only hold Valve games. After they invested millions of dollars hiring one of the currently best linux developers in the world. Just because they were scared of Windows 8 App Market. I’m actually participating in the beta. And it’s PAIN to have it installed on something different than Ubuntu/Debian.

Artifical difficulty or not It IS a challenge to beat after 30. Of course it’s hard. It requires superb gameplay to tackle, that not everyone is up for it. And it’s completely obvious. Majority of people are stuck at 10-20, there are quite few at 20+ to 30 something and very few at 40-50 and more. The ones at 50 are better than you and know the game better and have kittenload of free time to spare. It’s an achievement by itself

I play with Knight gear and it’s pretty kitten. I don’t know why you guys sacrifise toughness and precision in favour of larger hp pool o.o

Desktop linux is NOT a gaming platform. As such it doesn’t deserve the hassle of porting over and complying with every nerd geek out there. It’s highly fragmented with no standardization whatsoever.
As a paying customer, I wouldn’t want to see ANet wasting time porting to linux. I’d appreciate use that time on fixing current bugs and implement new features for a well-known stable and standartized platform – Windows.

PS: Not to mention that most hardware and peripherals ARE designed for Windows and have absolutely NO SUPPORT for linux. What’s left for gaming

There are many ways to deal with these ‘1 shot skills’ (I’ve never seen them done to me, but I stack vit and toughness). Here is a list:

Confusion is single most OPed condition of them all especially if timed right. It even punishes you when you attempt to heal. Seriously Confusion > Agony. It’s not just your tornado. I play a guardian with GS and while im in the middle of whirling wrath there is always somebody to cast confusion on me and I almost kill myself. All the toughness and armor is rendered useless. So yeah something must be done to confusion, the way it is, is just too OP. Some mobs give you 4-5 out of the blue for ~10 seconds, and in mass pvp mesmers easily stack you good for 6-7 seconds. That’s 10 seconds in which I’m completely useless or usually getting myself killed

I do this dungeon everyday and I force my group to fight to the end. If the group is weak, yes, we wipe 2-3 times, but then they learn, and are thankful. How do I force them? I play together with my gf and when they are like “go for meatshield” and some strange random numbers afterwards, we both sit down and say that we want to fight. They usually agree :P and I find it rather easier imo. I’m a guardian and i do most of the “heavy-lifting” in there yet sometimes i dont even pay repair bills, which is amazing. Gives you that feel of accomplishment

Yey amen brother. Finally somebody to recommend a guardian for what it is and not being a healer. Actually everytime i read that someone recommends guardian for a healer, a part of me dies that instant :X

Whoever trait the way you listed will pretty much be dead after those 12 seconds you mentioned. Not to mention that the damage output I highly doubt would make any difference esp in zerg. Infact aegis is so useless against multiple opponents that I use it as an AH trigger in big fights. Of course timed block would be too OP since as you’ve stated you can get aegis from quite a lot places, imagine a case of 5 guardians in a group and thats sick i get it. But seeing it now its not really OP skill. It’s a good skill at best

Meh I have my build since I hit lvl 80 and read all trait descriptions and I did that 6 days after head start. I don’t know what people are doing atm. Last time i checked it was a crithammer thing, which i didn’t even try.
You may have said that this build is not sPvP one but then you claim that you beat people up with 15k and stuff. I mean, if you manage to this often, a guardi with such a build should be a game changer in all type of pvp
Don’t you even start on the player skill. I think I have enough of it.
And your 8x attack burst is easily dodge-able, easier than Whirling Wrath, trust me.
I can just walk away from yours without wasting energy on dodge. You can’t say the same thing about zealot defense. When and IF they take a good look at sword and shield and how this combo is naturally flawed to the point that even warriors have better SHIELD skills, I’ll just refuse to play them.
So far so good, at least they fixed the hammer, you can actually move all the time now, casting all the skills. That’s fun!
I would much rather go with Scepter/Mace + focus than sword and anything else.

I think the game has too many crybabies.
There is plenty of stuff to do, if only you look around. And btw OP are you in low populated server? Because I play in High one aaand, i create alts every few days, aaaand i pretty much meet people ALL the time, especially when there is event boss, or just some event. It becomes crowded in a minute. Even with people who have 100% world completion, like me in my main. So yeah, I think the game has plenty to offer, but some people just don’t want to see further than their nose.

P.S: Fractals is not a requirement. It has never been and it is no longer a RNG dungeon, thanks to Wintersday. I urge you to tell your friends to read the patch notes of the last 2-3 updates. Valueable info in there

I’m actually wondering if there is actually a way to benchmark which one is the source of poor performance personaly. Is it the ram, the hard drive or the usual suspects – cpu/gpu. Of course without buying additional hardware to swap it in order to see if there is an improvement. I’m running 2x Radeon HD 6850 in crossfire and in mass fights it drops down to 15-20 and if i dont look directly at the fight bumps to 25 and it reaches the cap in PvE. Of course with a lot of settings disabled but generally everything is on high. So yeah it runs well on that PC, but I want to make it so it runs on the other PC as well, it drops to 3 FPS in the big fights on minimum graphic which is just sad.

I would like to hear also if someone is playing with GTX 460, how’s the performance at 1080p. I’m planning to get one for a PC I have lying around with GT 220. It kind of dies in mass fights.

yes please tell me hw you hit with the third hit if i move through you and get behind, im very curious. Not to metion that I gave my armor as an example and you still kept talking about 15-20k dmg nonsense xD and now you tell me that you do that to pitty mesmers and elementalists. Or glass cannons. I’m sorry but this build has nothing interesting in it, I wish you best of luck in this game, and I hope you don’t emoquit if you meet a properly built GS guardi or hammer guardi in that regard

PS: Also some dude around here (forums) had tested the single target sword gs and hammer damage, and sword came on top with so little damage bonus, that it doesn’t matter. I wouldn’t call that better DPS at single target. I guess its mainly by the third attack because it makes a projectile like triple shot, but its extremely hard to land all 3 on a moving target, so c:

PS2: I also do some sPvP and I’ve never seen sword guardian there. So either you are somekind of genius and all the sPvPers are stupid, or there is something fishy about your build that you are not telling maybe because of pride or ego, i dont know, quite frankly i dont care ^^
