It was a really cool feature in LOTRO.

The devs had actually scripted an elaborate event with players as monsters who could attack uncorrupted players for the end of BWE2 as well, so its something at least one of them has considered.

Let me be a healer.

I’m going to be honest. You should have known that this game has no healers before you bought it right? You know that a FUNDAMENTAL part of this game is the lack of a healing class right? So why complain about something you KNOW will never be added to the game??

The thread said you could basically wish for anything.

It seems like you people will jump at any opportunity to repeat the pre-release marketing hype as dogma that applies to the current state of the game.

I facepalmed when I first saw this stat on the live build of the game. Why would you even put this in a game? It’s clear that everyone’s gonna take it instead of the stats that they should be taking. I’m very disappointed, Anet.

Except there’s no real stats you ‘should’ be taking. All stats work for all specs, 95% of the time.

Tired of seeing you imply that Magic Find as a stat is even REMOTELY beneficial when looked at from a group perspective.

Please, tell me how it is beneficial. Just try. You can’t.

A group in GW2 is five DPSers who can marginally buff each other. It is comprised of individuals and does not have a “perspective”.

You can do perfectly fine in dungeons wearing magic find.

If you’re getting squashed wearing magic find, you’ll get squashed wearing any other gear, because you’re standing in the bad that’s squashing you either way.

It’s this mentality that is the problem.

It’s the player, not the gear.

You should probably realize that.

But the player that equips magic find is selfish and is not out to provide the maximum benefit to the group.

So? I don’t know 99% of the people I group with. This is Tyria, not Soviet Russia, I’m here to earn for myself.

Botting is a failure not of players I think, but of the event system. Anyone else remember getting hyped about them, before the betas started? It sounded like this elaborate system, where each map was almost like an RTS, and if the enemy was driven back at one point, or successful at another, there would be mapwide consequences, and things would be constantly changing?

If that had been true, you couldn’t just put one of those drinking birds from The Simpsons on the 1 key and go to bed, dynamic events would be too… actually dynamic for that.

A % chance to block/dodge/whatever would be nice too, in many games it was never enough to just have a flat % of damage reduction, because it doesn’t scale to being hit by many enemies, or one enemy that hits rapidly, or so much burst damage that your discount is laughable.

I admire their attempt to have it so that whenever you see “Miss” or “Evaded”, its because of player skill, but its just not scaling to endgame/dungeon needs.

Wikipedia on inflation:

“Inflation’s effects on an economy are various and can be simultaneously positive and negative.”

Indeed.

“Negative effects of inflation include an increase in the opportunity cost of holding money,”

So better to teleport to waypoints, stock up on the rarer crafting mats, buy skillbooks for your alts, than to hoard it? Sounds good so far.

“uncertainty over future inflation which may discourage investment and savings, and if inflation is rapid enough, shortages of goods as consumers begin hoarding out of concern that prices will increase in the future.”

Hasn’t happened yet, Anet had to bribe people in order to get them to buy the thousands of logs and butter on the market.

“Positive effects include ensuring that central banks can adjust real interest rates (intended to mitigate recessions),5

More gems for all!

“and encouraging investment in non-monetary capital projects.”

So we might actually see some of those siege golems that keep getting brought up in a threat about PvE waypoint travel for some reason.

I think waypoint (and repair) costs are fine, every MMO needs gold sinks to keep the eco healthy.

Name an MMORPG that had to shut down because people had too much money.

ummm… If i had to guess Diablo 3 will shut down for a while or seriosuly update… Their economy is just soooo broken. We don’t NEED to eliminate wp costs altogether, just make completing the zone give significant discounts for that zone, therefore giving us the incentive to wana 100% each zone rather than just a title.

Pro tip: Mists and WvW is a free pass to LA therefore every other city if you just sit through a few loading screens

Sitting through a loading screen has a non-trivial opportunity cost unless you happen to have an SSD big enough to hold all your games on it.

As for Diablo 3, the problems with it are way too numerous to go into detail on in a suggestion forum for a completely different game.

Waypoint costs are trivial if you’re not hopping all over the place. They need to stay how they are.

Why shouldn’t I hop around, other than the current cost? Map completion as a goal encourages it.

You don’t need to hop around to complete a map. Sometimes you have to change zones, but that’s only once per map and therefor it won’t hurt your purse.

I don’t have to, but often the opportunity cost is too high not to, even at the current exorbitant waypoint prices.

I agree completly, of atleast the cost should be lowered

I think the players should have ran the economy smarter.

If it was ran like other games economies were played with very high prices on release we could be getting enough gold for ten or more golems an hour. Commander in less than a day. Even selling it at what anet puts a price tag on the majority of items would still be 7-10x more gold income than we are making now, which would be like 3-5 golems an hour or more if we take crafting mats into discussion.

I however sat there and watched a rare item drop 30 silver in two hours, on its price.

Supply of blues and greens exceeded demand. You can’t outsmart that.

The reason games with an auction hall doesn’t have gear being sold at vendor cost is because you lose your deposit if they expire. GW2 sell orders don’t expire.

As for golems as a gold standard, I don’t like coins being the currency of WvWvW, but there have been plenty of threads on that too.

Why?

Take a basic economics class: If a system is flooded with money there will be an inflation.

Name an MMORPG that had to shut down because people had too much money.

It’s not about the amount of money people have, its about what your money is worth.

Why do people keep pushing for the Holy Trinity in GW2?

  1. The game was already made, there is no turning back – do you want to shutdown the game so they can redo it from scratch?
  2. Why fix when it isn’t broken? No, seriously, why?

People who are pro-Holy Trinity, just stop it already. There is no way to go back to it, the game has been programmed and launched already.

3rd: This is how they want it and ANet will not change their minds over it.
If you want the Holy Trinity, there are a hundred games out there with it.

Point is, you have to accept the fact that GW2 doesn’t have and will never have the Holy Trinity. There is absolutely nothing you can do about it even if you do petitions or whatever. We see the same posts over and over and over in every GW2 forums – official or not. Just accept it Holy Trinity generation, just accept it.

And man, there never was a Holy Trinity or whatever name you want to call it, before. Learn to play the game the way we used to play games – you learn, you observe, you adapt, you change, be flexible, be open, and you THINK. It is more fun that way, instead of roles and just click-away all you want, which is very boring.

1. Being able to specialize != the holy trinity. As far back as Ultima Online, people were picking skills that worked well together for a specific purpose.

2. A lot of adjustments people have suggested aren’t fundamental changes like adding friendly-targeted heals, or taunts. They are simple buffs to numbers like the coefficients that scale the effects of Healing Power and Toughness, or new major traits.

3. “No trinity” is a game design idea espoused during pre-release hype. It means nothing to me now, as a player with the final product in my hand. If I think healers, tanks, or air-conditioner repairman would make meaningfull additions to the game, I’m going to ask for them.

Box sales aren’t just for recouping the cost of development. People get their friends to play long after launch. Games are given as gifts during holidays and birthdays that may not coincide with launch. It’s not just action RPGs like Guild Wars and Diablo, either, but franchises such as Call of Duty using this business model. The cash shop is simply a bonus for the developer (ideally).

You can melee bosses just fine – and don’t need to kite or ‘get out’ all the time. But you do need mobility – just smart mobility. And you need to not tank the boss, but melee the boss.

Its working just fine – you just don’t play it like you would WoW or EQ. Play it like you would City of Heroes.

A softcapped Brute in CoH would run up and punch bosses in the face. Try that against a good many encounters here, and you end up like http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-aW9-wv6gGg

I hope, with the closure of City of Heroes, that NCSoft sends some of the staff Arenanet’s way. That game had a great role design. In its later years, groups never stalled for need of a healer or tank. Sure, people would try to balance them out a bit if they had multiple alts to bring to a group, but, for the most part, they played what they enjoyed, and there were many ways you could make yourself useful to a party.

An Empathy/Sonic healer could play party frame whack a mole, sure, but they’d be playing badly. Playing right, they could increase the team’s total damage output as much as any DD, likely more, definitely more if they were Kinetics.

Likewise, a tank who simply held aggro while waiting for everyone else to kill things is a bad tank. Their arsenal included much more.

Why is inflation brought out like some sort of bogeyman in these discussions? It just means bigger numbers, your relative wealth stays the same. In fact, it means items with static values such as skill book, cultural armor, etc, actually become more affordable, making things better for everyone.

GW1 was actually too deflated. People used zkeys and ectos for money, because it took too long getting it from PvE rewards.
