Hah, nice one.
Let me counter with this one, overheard at a construction site in Lion’s Arch, a charr to a sylvari while both are hammering some planks, paraphrased.
“Friend of yours?”
LOLOLOLOLOL Sylvari OWNED
:(
Yeah it hurts. Thief was my first class so i can safely say ive learned the ins and outs so i dont fold easy, and I can say ive brought more to the table than guardians, not in the form of buffs but in flat out making a dungeon easier. COF Path 3, I can stealth everyone past the bombs. COE I can Infil Arrow across the lasers making it so thats one less you have to worry about. COF Path 1, I can shadow step past the flaming boulders. I can rez when most cant thanks to shadow refuge. I dont need a stealth kit for hacking making me favored amongst my friends for those objectives. The dredge boss in FOTM, I can literally pull him into the oil aoe with scorpion wire making the fight 5x easier for you. when played well, we can make dungeons easy.
In your experiences, which class in s/tpvp generally makes the rudest remarks when they defeat you/you defeat them? Personally, I find that thieves are just trolly as all hell and it seems they go out of their way to make other players feel bad, on the other end of the spectrum, as a thief, I find that its between warriors and rangers that give me the most hate when I kill them for being at an and I quote “unfair disadvantage” in proper eloquent talk with minimal cursing-_-
HS drama already started ? what is the next skill in the list ? backstab again ?
the sneak attack ?
i am very sure we will get more nerfs after this to satisfy the masses.
The question is: when it will stop ????!!!!
I was actually going to complain how thieves guild takes no skill and is a cheap tactic in a 1v1, especially when used from shadow refuge to safely cast it and take people by surprise(this is a joke)
Just a question, is race supposed to mean krytan, elonian,or canthan, because if we are on the human forums I think we know what race we are :p
Eh wth:
Zen Verani
22
Elonian
Necromancer: She’s been fascinated with the thought of death from a very young age. Where most see it as a scary taboo, she often embraces it. She often gets a thrill from near death experiences. Why? Because only when one is close to dying, does one truly know what it means to be alive.
Zen was an only child, born to poor folk. She often wandered alone, drifting further and further from her parents. Until the day she looked back, and they were no longer there.
Zen sought knowledge. She heard of tales of magicians and conjurers. Then she learned of an enigmatic people. Those who are masters of life, necromancers. This was Zen’s calling. She devoted every resource she had to learn. Basic reading and comprehension skills were a must. Then the skills of magic had to be learned. Zen came to a point where she realized that Grenth was her means to an end. That feast for her hunger. She worshipped, she prayed, she acquired.
Zen wanders the land, seeking new ways to play with her magic. Offering help to those who need it, and guidance to those who want it. She is also a jeweler and an artificer.
Zen does not have any immediate affiliations with any groups. She usually wanders alone.
Sadly, Zen does not have a family. She knows nothing of their whereabouts or even if they are still living. She found a stray dog once and they were companions for 5 months. With food being scarce and no real place to live, the dog died. She tried to use what powers she had at the time to bring to dog back, but learned the hard way that even if the body reanimates, the soul prefers to remain free. The dog was a mere husk which disintegrated and this caused extreme grief for days.
Personality wise, Zen is intact, mostly. Usually she is nice and caring. But due to the stress and trauma her earlier years brought on her, she can suffer from short periods of bloodlust, anger, and sadness. The many times she has been near death and defeated in battle have taken a toll on her too in an unexpected way. The adrenaline she experiences in a fight is exhilarating. She goes from nice and innocent to downright vicious and bloodthirsty. It’s not uncommon to see Zen covered in blood after a fight.
I would say Zen is a fun ride to be with, calm one second and vampiric the next. It may be weird, scary, or creepy. Or you may understand entirely her view on the world. She’s a necromancer for a reason, she loves life, and embraces death. Death has no meaning without life, and without death, we wouldn’t know what it feels like to be alive.

7.5/10 I get a little jealous of Sylvari Thieves when I see one, every time
If you could change the dyes on your armor to go with your hair it’d be perfect!
I actually like it, blue doesnt seem like a thief color but you pull off that winter look. 80/100(combo breaker)
gw1 assassins were on the right track with shadow step type abilitys, and gw2 would be wise to adjust the stealth skills to a similar coefficient.
Sure! Assassins in GW1 also had 75% perma-block againts attacks… Can thieves get that too while you are at it, Anet?
I have no problems with this
Can you imagine the outcry if C&D were changed to give the equivalent of critical defenses or flashing blades?
honestly, i personally think we would still get the same amount of hate regardless :p
It’s certainly wrong to say Thiefs. However, what if people consider it a proper name? I am from the Thief family, we are the Thiefs.
…………..LOL

You don’t ingore the skimpy armor. No one ignores it we just learn to stop staring:p
anyway, I could argue that the TP promotes uniqueness since it lets us buy armor to mix and match
<.< can we have the aoe fire dmg buffed up insta stomp perma stealth infiltrators arrow too? Thats all I want… we all want it come on now
that is true, but Blood fiend attacks on timed intervals, which is probably why you added a 2s countere=, but the Blood Fiend doesn’t heal drastically when sacrificed. Necromancers get more heal when all of their minions are out stealing health for them as traited. But back on topic, that minion is an ai, these are players we are talking about. Who deal far more damage by themselves without utilities.
male 3 and 4, female 7
did he die at the end btw?
healing for alot as well as healing on hit and giving damage? I think I’ll be the first person today to legitimately use the term OP correctly
I think Anet should wait to assess the Thief until after culling is taken care of instead of jumping the gun. I’m not blaming culling entirely but clearly it’s an issue and I think it would be premature to “nerf” a stealth based class before the culling is handled.
I half agree because the culling is a large issue and it could be exaggerating the problem in WvW and that an iterative approach is better than “whack-a-mole”. I half disagree because of how easy it was for me to simply pick up a thief and in a few minutes already be doing similar things in sPvP where culling is not an issue.
Also, no class will ever be balanced in any game mode when each mode uses the same pool of abilities. It’s just not possible. I’m not insinuating that each mode needs different abilities; but rather that each mode can have changes made to the same pool of abilities that don’t affect the other game modes.
I agree that we will likely never have perfect balance. That, however, does not mean a best effort should not be made to make things as balanced as we can. I’d say the Thief is currently an outlier when it comes to class balance due to all the shenanigans they can pull off in PvP.
Sadly, as I’ve said before, I think this comes down to bad class design as the Thief seems to be largely dependent on stealth (someone have a good build that isn’t?) which is extremely powerful in PvP but much less powerful in PvE.
What? Stealth is still powerful for us even in pve, its just that the differnce is, mobs dont come here to complain, and thank god they dont

This isn’t a rant thread I’m just curious, I notice the word “thiefs” get used an awful to obviously describe multiple, but isn’t it “thieves”? Am I missing something? Some sorta esoteric PC MMO gaming term? I mean I don’t say staffs, its staves, but I mean, yeah just wondering.
once again, I think the Crossing is the best staff for a necro
i run valk armor, everything else is zerk. Gives you health and toughness, and some spike dmg
here is what youre looking for, i tried this for a week in pvp, at the cost of stealth, a major thief tool, you now have unlocked survivability. Against multiple foes, consider dagger storm your second healing skill. And yes, it can be tweaked for pve

male#6
ah i see now. thanks guys
Shadowstepping is magic. According to GW1, human assassins follow Lyssa for this – just as mesmers follow her. So since thieves come from said assassins, it’s likely they have shared magic – presumed (the only profession who’s school of magic is confirmed is Elementalist, who use Destruction) to be the school of Denial. Mesmers in GW2 can also teleport and stealth, but they focus less on that stuff.
So it can be said that thieves do in fact use magic, presumably of course since that info isnt set in stone?
New to the lore of Guild Wars here. Thieves can shadowstep and go into stealth at will unlike other professions and I was wondering if there was any explanation for this. Do they have their own special kind of magic that they use? Or is it just an in game mechanic?
Not gonna lie that shadow realm visual effect seems really cool, but when your like me who goes into stealth every 3 seconds, your screen going from negative to normal and back will get annoying
I actually like that neck part. It adds flavor imo. But this is coming from someone who doesnt show pauldrons. I just dont want my warrior looking like the stereotypical bulky war-guy and that T2 gives him that punk sort of look
To start, I am not making this out to be a major concern, but it is a suggestion. If and when you guys decide to add new armor to the game, do you think you can make noin trenchcoat armor to the medium armor tier? I mean yeah some of the coats do look really cool, but 95% of the medium armor in the game are coats, 100% if you play as a male medium armor wearer. I was just hoping there would be more diversity. My sylvari thief wears duelist which is the only non trench coat armor a race that isnt a human and a female can get. Whispers is arguable. Like I said its not like I don’t like any of the existing ones, but it has a redundant feeling to it. A pirate coat doesnt seem very thiefy :/
Its that female face that has that split down the middle
Yeah my build is similar to yours (10/30/30/0/0) and it’s my everything build. Pve pvp wvw. I can vouch and say Yishis’ build if definetly well rounded. Normally thats a bad thing because when you try to be good at everything you become good at nothing. But this build has power and survivability, just not as much dps as a glass cannon. I like to call this build…..plexi glass cannon
considering if you use cnd when youre running through someone and immediately use bs when they are behind you, your character will bs the air in front resulting in a miss, im going to get crippled alot
There’s probably nothing you can’t accomplish with a surprise attack that uses enough golems. Really a surprise attack and 6 rams will get through two reinforced gates pretty quick and isn’t that tough or expensive to do.
If you had some means of rallying the PvE map completers you could probably set something up to raid the spots you need, one day at a time, one surprise attack at a time.
Siege can be obtained for free via the jumping puzzles. The borderland jumping puzzles are pretty easy.
Note that if the last vista you need is something like the one at Hills, you don’t even need to break the inner keep and breaking the outer gate is easy even with a small crew. The only really tough one would be the garrison…
Even then:
10 people
10 golems
shuttle supply in from some other map
Get a couple mesmers to help teleport you along
off-primetime water gate attack
break both gates
jump out of the golems
run up to the vistaYou don’t need to capture the garrison, you just have to get inside and up to the dome long enough to click the vista.
You know whats funny? The last one I need requires the Garrison :/
And unfortunelly for you, Garrison vista is inside the innergate.
nope, the one i need needs you to jump down onto the rock path/ledge

wolves tick me off the most, kitten tackling
son of a…. still blue. Thanks anyway
This would be crippling, more than you know. I can already see someone who doesnt have the blind on stealth trait CnDing someone the same time that someone attacks them. So they not only lost half their initiative, but now they are not in stealth…….wonderful
cant decide between this or the crossing
On DR here, and I need one more vista for map completion. Just my luck, its in SB borderlands, and theyve been wiping everybody out lol. So their borderlands are off limits. At first DR was blue and I had hoped we would swap to green (the bl i need) but alas we stayed blue and they stayed green. That vista is killing me. Do the colors switch if you face the same servers?
I mean, i understood thier utility, but i never needed them as I am a thief, and I see anet’s logic. If everyclass was supposed to have access to stealth, every class would have at least one stealth skill :P. So what they are pretty much doing is letting you sample stealth now.
I think I read somewhere that being in a party increases magic find, is that true? because if so that explains the lfg’s in the Cursed Shore.
you guys keep saying #5 but neglect #2 which is what I think was being used
Actually, in certain situations, I drop shadow refuges AWAY from me just to draw enemy fire.
I cloak with C&D, drop the SR into empty zone, run away & extend my stealth with HiS, and if able, teleport away with Shadow Step… When I look back, I see Mesmers, Warriors, Eles and Guardians literally blowing all their skills on the fake refuge… My only thought is: ‘Thanks God I’m not there’.
holy crap thats a good escape plan, trying this
walk breaks fear?! omgomgomgomg
^ the music made me laugh
sylvari have golden sap, there you go
^Yup, im a freaking ghost >:D
Why is everyone implying all thieves are the same? saying 6k mug 7k cnd 14k bs is a gc thief but not every thief is gc. thats like saying i hate rangers, all they do is do that stupid sword evasion attack
Most thieves in WvW (not all use a generic cookie cutter CnD / BStab build). That’s why.
Note its not all they do, some mass stealth to just sit around cap points and back cap but thats been partially fixed. Aside from Anet reworking stealth to be broken on damage like it should be.
eh, i see where youre coming from

i’ll admit it doesnt match some of the faces, i like it for my char though bcuz i feel like it matches her
