I’ve never been able to get 1h sword to work for me, but I absolutely adore using GS + hammer with this build. It’s true that you loose out on some DPS and survivability with this change, but it is soooo much fun. I’m surprised by the number of Guardians that only run GS or only run hammer, and not both. When you jump on somebody with the GS, then switch to the hammer to ring ‘em and ping ’em, it’s almost like cheating because nobody expects to see both 2h weapons on the same character

good to hear, that’s my plan to use GS and Hammer. But why would you say this build lose survivalbility? Isnt the whole point have more healing power supposed to make u last forever as compared to AH build?

That’s what I run. Use JI to catch them in the ring, mighty blow, then spin to win.

I do not believe that this company has the resources or wherewithall to fix this problem. The belief is that NCSoft took the bulk of the cash sales and left them with nothing but gem sales to fund their fixes. The team working on this seems quite insufficient for the task.

I have not noticed much difference since the 28th. Last night was really bad. About 10 of us were fighting a few blokes in a supply camp. And a Guardian of all things would appear and disappear like he had stealth. Quite ridiculous. I could understand if this was a large battle but it wasn’t. It was just a rather pathetic display of this bargain basement game engine and what they have done to it.

To quote a guildie, “This is the least fun I’ve had in WvW. The technical issues such as queue problems and this culling makes the game largely unfun. Anet will lose the bulk of its players in the near future, if they can not improve the situation quickly.”

AH with Greatsword - without Hammer?

I use both GS and Hammer.

I run both the 0/15/30/20/5 and 0/5/30/30/5 builds. I have gone back to the 2nd build after a long hiatus because of the change to Battle Presence. I can run BP, Empowering Might and AH and thus give myself and my team some essential support. The extra health and healing power is nice too. I do miss the 15 in Radiance but feel BP is worth it for the group.

I run both AH and MF, depending on what I am doing.

I usually equip both the GS and Hammer. Hold the Line, JI, and either SY or SYG depending on the situations.

If I had to choose between GS and Hammer, I often stick with the hammer if I am running AH. MB does not miss, WW misses quite a lot of hits. Comboing the Ring of Warding and Judges Intervention is essential to what I want to accomplish.

This is primarily a WvW perspective.

Guardians are only good at front lining when in a group with several other guards/warriors all pushing together. Unlike other pvp tanks in other games, you will drop pretty quickly if in the front, by yourself. In a group of melers the damage is spread out amongst the party and healing and buffs are shared.

As the only frontliner in a group you need to skirmish. Hit and run.

Meditations are not really about group support, but Individual Survival. They are your best option when you play with a bunch of people with Sticks who try and stand behind you.

I’d be pleased as punch if they make good on their intentions to give all classes 5-6 strongly competitive builds strictly by enhancing the sub-par options, but in the end I expect they’ll have to knock a couple of percent of the effectivness off of Altruistic Healing and THEN bring the newly annointed alternatives up to that standard.

Sadly, they seem quite content to nerf every option available to every class till you are left with 1 or 2 that they can then really control the numbers on. Rift did the same thing, nerfed the hell out of everything till you only had 2 builds to pick from. Its a rather weak and pathetic way to balance.

Guardians are fine. The way I am spec’d I can 1v1 any class easily and win, it all comes down to skill at that point for me. If they are more skilled they win, if not I win. As for a guardian having a low hp pool, that shouldn’t really matter so stop complaining. A good guardian can wreck with low hp easily.

Show me a video of you 1v1ing a DD ele who is not uplevelled or a complete noob. I want to see it. PVP is about more than 1v1 anyways.

Guardian class is pretty balanced. Has been for some time.

TBH this is guardian forum. I don’t care if Necros have more issues etc.

My only point is that there are lots of things that could be improved to make the class more fun. I would like to see them put EQUAL time into this.

- many useless utilities
- zeal line needs looking at
- toughness for all classes
- CD too long on some skills
- both ranged weapons need looking at
- general disatisfaction with shield

Guardian is already one of the most balanced classes in the game. The nerfs are never as big as people like you make them out to be.

This is not a whinge about nerfs, but a complaint that they have not looked at and done anything positive at all for us. We have some poor weapons, some poor utilities, some weak trait lines. Do something to improve the class. End of story.

If you didn’t find the profession fun enough to begin with, why do you insist in playing it?
Because despite all the issues we have, most people who want to see the profession improve actually like playing it.

Liked it at first but its not improved at all. If things need to be nerfed fine, but there are lots of issues that they have done nothing to improve.

The Dev’s have done nothing to improve this class since launch. Not one thing. Every other class has had improvements (some nerfs too). We have seen nothing but a couple of tiny bug fixes and a string of really unnecessary nerfs. I have seen nothing happen that makes this class more fun to play.

Is asking to log in 6 months later and find your class more fun than at launch too much to ask?

Not really. TBH SOS seems to be playing really poorly this week. Very disorganized and very poor individual play. This is from my perspective as an SOS player.

Yeah i’m calling bs on Relentliss claim. They die in 3 hits with AoE, you’re telling me that your weapons stayed alive among all the aoe of group and single fights? I don’t think so.

A dps character can kill them in 3 sec if they target them.
Standing in 2 or 3 AOEs in WvW they last less than 5 sec.
Various AOE from Champion and Boss mobs kill them in a few seconds.

The 90% immunity to AOE is simply the way other games have handled the pet dying to random AOE and a very easy solution.

Ok in normal WvW I have about 3000 armor and about 17k health. In Spvp I have 2500 armor and 19.5k health. I feel equally tanky in each. Where toughness really helps is vs theives who absolutely hammer you when you have none and vs range who just fire autoattacks. But generally they feel about the same. If anything the 19.5k health feels tankier at times.

I have no issue with them being nerfed as they could be pretty OP. The hammer would basically follow your target around from any distance CCing them and making their life miserable. Basically other characters only had 1 defense to them, dodging.

Go ahead and nerf them somewhat. But don’t make them totally useless.

Giving them so little health is totally ridiculous. 2 or 3 hits for a utility that needs at least 3 tactics to be usable is simply unfair and unusable.

Solution give them 1/2 your character’s health, 2000 armor, 90% immune to AOE, does not attract Aggro in PVE. Make the person you are fighting really make a decision, fight the guardian or fight the hammer. Have the weapon return to the guardian if it gets more than 2000 away.

You could do this with Ranger Spirits as well. I think people would see such changes as quite reasonable.

Like I said, you don’t see the sense in it because you don’t know the plans for the class. It doesn’t need to make sense to a player that has no insight to how the game will evolve. Maybe if we had a roadmap, we could make some more intelligent discussion about the change but we don’t. Somethings need to be broken down before you can make them into something better. That’s not irrelevant where testing and code are concerned.

What plans? Anet does not communicate anything. when was the last Dev post on our forum? I am left to believe there are no plans. People carry on like these people are intelligent or godlike in their understanding of the game TBH they seem pretty out of touch and driven by pretty strange motivations.

SW were seldom used and now will never be used. We have gone from having 4 builds: AH, MF, Virtues, SW to having only 3. That is a 25% nerf to my fun and the class in general. In fact, I found SW to be quite fun in SPVP, so I guess I won’t be doing that any more.

If the weapons had more health this might not be such an issue. But since they die in 3 autoattacks, they are useless. OK Anet, boost up the health of all Spirit Weapons. I was under the impression they had done some work on Ranger SW but apparently not.

I am not seeing why this change had to be brought in for the Arcane Shield or the Bow at all. The whole nature of them being defence. In fact, it seems a pretty poorly thought out change to the shield… a shield that absorbs damage for you and dies from damage (what? makes no sense).

A casual's view on sPvP

Well, look at a game like League of Legends (which GW2 borrows rather heavily from).

There’s basically one playstyle. Hell, there’s one map. The variety kick in when you consider tournament PvP, and the different team comps/matchups/skill levels/rivalries you’ll undoubtedly cultivate when playing against the top echelons.

Until then, it’s kind of drudgery, just like any other major sport. The exciting part is the players and the thrill of melting face in combat.

Casuals are okay! Nothing wrong with it. But as a semi hardcore player, I can tell you that you’re missing out on the experience.

There are a hundred characters and multiple builds to each character. That alone ensures a level of diversity that this game will never have. Spvp has one or two viable builds of each class… usually one. And only a handful of classes. Pretty boring long term.

This is a pve nerf that is going to have disasterous consequences for WvW.

Quite simply, thieves are out of control. The ONLY way to deal with them at all, and its a pretty crummy method, is to AOE the heck out of where you think they have gone. Nerf AOE and it makes a thief Godmode. With absolutely zero way to deal with them.

Basically, Anet needs to implement stronger single target weapons and change the nature of their dungeons. If their dungeons mob you with handfuls of creatures, the basic method of dealing with them is AOE. So this would mean redesigning every single dungeon in the game.

I don’t have a strong single target weapon on my guardian. After the AOE patch I will likely be really messed up. Every single fun skill I have is AOE – all my builds are designed around Mighty Blow and Whirling Wrath. I will be totally useless in a balanced or dps build if nerfed.

lookingf forward to it! i’m trying to mess with a new build (only in theory for now) with triple meditation as well, and try using monk’s focus for some added healing. but we’ll see. currently running a boon duration build and seeing how that works heh.

one more thing, do you ever feel you don’t have enough mobility? i guess i got used to using swiftness from staff #3, though we have many other ways as well ; ))

Wow after these changes Thieves will be total god-mode. The only way to deal with them at all is by guessing where they are and Aoe’ing. If Aoe is nerfed they will be totally unkillable.

Aoe is where it should be atm. Why fix something that is not broken?

I am not thinking a lot of you are being honest. Post up some videos of a 1v1 with an 80 DD ele. A good one will crush a good guardian every time. Every time.

The good ones are not using condition damage btw, they are stacking power through the roof and hurting you with burst.

I beat bad ones all the time, which gives the illusion that they are not that hard. But any average or better one will destroy a guardian.

Just get knights armor, beryl orbs, emerald earings and rings, beryl neck.

Beserker or valkarie weapons

Once you get the hang of things and you may want to invest in different runes for your armor.

Pack, soldier, speed, melandru, lyssa are all solid choices. I use speed.

that was a pretty good video, i’m impressed with your tactics and how you are really getting the most out of the thief class. also that was an amazing bow.

If things like sealing gates, +5 supply buffs, portal bombing, and rezing supervisors impress yaks, you guys are hurting more than I thought.

Last I checked we were winning. If your so impressive, why are you losing?

Here’s my take on AH.

With Knights Gear w/ Precision Runes + Beryl Earings & Zerker Weapons….

With Omnom Food & Oils…

x/x/30/20/5 base…

with Sigil of Blood on GS

with Sigil of Fire on Hammer

survivability is good, if not great. You should have at least 45% crit and 66% crit dmg. you’re doing a considerable amount of damage and healing at the same time.

The downside is… you have to be attacking, and more importantly, the more you’re hitting the better the build becomes.

Throw into the mix might stacking on blocking… you can easly get 3800 attk pwr.

I think this works great if you have a bunch of melers working with you. I used it quite a bit.
