If you want to run meditations, I would use something like that. I would be concerned that you have no stability though. I did run the build 0/30/30/5/5. Its not all that tanky. You need to be tanky otherwise roaming thieves an dmesmers will 2 shot you. Weapons are up to you. Scepter and focus would be a nice choice in your off hand scepter 2,3,4,5 then WW and Ji on top of your victim for big burst. 70% crit dmage in this bild will help. Combined with your other bonuses, for nice damage.

Warriors are better 1v1.
Guardians are better 5v5.

Guardians have tons more support, a well placed shield or wall can change the fight.

Warriors are self-sustained juggernauts who can destroy people if not focused, but if they are focused they die rather quickly.

I think that is a pretty fair assessment.

Go and youtube the commando build. I prefer 5 in radiance and virtues and soldiers runes but the rest I run the same. Works great.

The Overpopulated servers do not want to play Borlis Pass either.

It was clear a couple weeks ago when SOR went to T2 we had to get as many points as we possibly could to get back up. We did not want to be facing uncompetative servers.

To further my point. Many of us have paid 1800 gems to be on these servers and play in a competative environment.

So from a T1 point of view I 100% agree with the OP that the Leagues are a bad idea. But I don’t agree that these servers should be ‘broken up.’ I paid good money to for the pvp I am getting atm. It’s much more organised and strategic. The competition is much smarter and effective. Sadly the lag is much more effective too.

Whether it is perfect or not is another debate.

Better idea would be to form a Gold Tier. Tiers One and Two are Gold Tier. And allow free transfers occassionally to balance them out. That would be 6 powerhouse servers. With a few guilds transferring here and there, you could have 6 very good servers.

Other tiers, servers are combined to form groups. So link say 3 servers together into a team, one good, one bad and one in between. This might give you a better WvW population. You could even mix up the grouping based on how many points and keeps your particular server captured during the week. To make teh whole scenario of playing on a lower WvW server more appealing.

People of course could still pay 1800 gems to transfer to the gold tier.

I agree 100% with the OP’s assessment. Because of the dodge mechanic those classes that do not require a perfectly timed combo >>> than other classes.

A Necro just needs to dodge part of your high DPS combo then run strafe around in circles till you die. I am not sure how that equals a fair balance of risk and reward.

Thief mechanics are a total joke as the auto attack does a truckload more than most other classes skills. So if he misses a skill, no worries, his auto attack or other low CD skills will get you. And if he runs out of energy. No worries. He will just stealth up till it regens. Something seems absurd here.

Warriors have 30k health and an outrageously powerful heal signet. They can ignore your auto attack chain.

I haven’t seen one guardian build in here that has celestials trinkets that i cant improve upon by mixing gear.

I am not sure about that.

With Celestials you basically get Crit Damage for free – its like tagged on the gear as an after thought – you get nearly Beserker or Valk level of Crit Damage for free.

On every other piece of gear it has a big cost to another stat. Thus why a full set of Celestial is so nice for a Guardian.

You have to understand the process here that went on in Beta. Initially, Guardian had higher health AND an Aegis that protected you from 1 out of 5 attacks. They were virtually unkillable. So the Dev’s nerfed health to balance out the Aegis. Which made things better.

Then nerfed Aegis but never looked at health again.

Sadly, a lot of these nerfs and buffs are for SPVP. Which creates incredible inbalance in other places.

I find the Dire items amusing. Its funny how one set of items has so thrown a loop into balance. I am not sure what they were thinking when they came up with them. Previously, condition builds had low toughness and had a weakness to spike damage. Now… not so much. You can go full tank and still chuck out massive damage. That is why they are so OP ATM.

The condition meta is a big problem. The only things I can see them doing is introducing more removal across the classes. Perhaps introducing a new food that helps. And of course new runes and gear to combat them. They will not likely change the stats of or remove a set of gear because of this problem.

As I stated before Condition builds were made to be tanky because their damage is supposed to be slow. But its not. They can stack up tons of conditions in mere seconds. They need to make it slow damage.

The best bet is runes, food, sigils, and abilities to remove them at this point. And/or abilities that increase your spike damage to people who have put conditions on you.
Foe’s Remorse – Does extra damage to a foe who has put a condition on you.
I could also see more skills that turn conditions into boons.

Also, I could see them increasing the base of regeneration of classes that do not have a lot of conditions to even things out, so that you do not need as much healing power for effective healing.

I just run the standard 0/5/30/30/5. With pvt armor and emerald accessories. It seems to get the job done. I don’t run dungeons so I am not too fussed with how much theoretical dps I do. I see people die in WvW… I count that as mission accomplished.

I run the same foods. For whatever reason this build seems to be the tankiest.

If you run straight into a zerg with a hammer, everyone will be targeting you, is the big problem. It’s hard enough to do a fast 2.5s sword chain when twenty people are actively trying to kill you, much less a 3.75s hammer chain with a 2+ second channel on the last hit (meaning everyone gets free hits on you for a full two seconds). If you do get it off, you get, what, a 3s symbol that does maybe 5k total? The risk/reward simply doesn’t pay off. At least thieves and whatnot can at least instagib a target in exchange for their taking the high probable risk of getting hit by literally everything at the same time.

The reason most blokes like the Hammer is for its use on a Mele Train. Usually, all the Warriors and Guardians try to mass blast an aoe blast field. 5-10 guardians all hitting mighty blow on the same blast field with 25 stacks of might running is simply devasting. As to your other comment, I agree. Nearly, every guardian I know whips out the staff and starts spamming the area.

Even in a small group finding a target with out stability and circling them, then your entire group beating on him/her can be pretty effective.

I also agree its not a very good dueling weapon. Then again Guardian is not a great duelling class.

How much Healing Power is nice to have?

I have ran both the famous Commando Build and one I like to call the Green Lantern, because of all the green healing numbers:

In the end I am not sure which is more effective in WvW. The healing from the symbols seems handy. It obvously does not help vs burst but seems to offset a few conditions for blokes.

Any help with food would be nice as well. I was aiming for 3000 power and 3000 armor and fell a bit short.

I would love more boon duration but don’t really see a way for that to happen without going a whole other route.

Any suggestions on how much Healing Power? I aimed for 1000 and hit about 900. It seems beneficial but not wowingly so. Its really rather sad. You sacrifice damage for it and it does not seem to be an even trade off.

I pretty much have the pvt/emerald gear to do the Commando Build but it seems pretty selfish.

If I had 3-5k extra base health, I’d be unstoppable.

Then the people you are playing against are not very good.

This is not a dis of your ability which looks very good in the videos, but of some of the noobs you cut down too easily.

If I had more health, I could spec for more hybrid roles which I would enjoy playing a lot more than Commando or Buffbot. I suppose if I went full bunker I would be pretty hard to kill, but not really if people focus on stripping off your buffs.

Let me apply pvp earned skins to real world items. What’s the point of skins to wear around in a little area. Stupid.

Put in a shop where you can save up and buy skins. People will be more dedicated if they can save for something.

As Taugrim said, everything in the game, including pvp, should be linked to social media. So you can look and see who won yesterday and is at the top of the board. Who is the top rated at each class. Who won the most in hot join last week. That sort of thing.

OP has done a great summery but surely we have to ask how did this buff make it onto the game? didn’t the devs foresee this. atleast one must have said: ‘this is a stupid idea’. afterall we had this same crap before with orbs.

serious questions must be asked of those involved. the devs must not make such terrible decisions as reintroducing a failed idea in nearly the same fashion.

ANET WE DO NOT WANT UNBALLANCED COMBAT BUFFS IN WVW. now go remove the stats buff and make it magic find or something, till you can make the new central locations contribute to the score in some way.

At first I thought Sacrx was a lunatic suggesting that they are purposefully sabatoging WvW. But now I think he was dead right.

If you made it buff supply instead of stats it would be very worthwhile.

7% more supply per area held on you Dolyaks and in your supply camps

Therefore, holding that buff will make the buff very tactical. Holding all 3 would allow you to fortify your Garrison or SM 21% faster.

Youtube the commando build. Most commanders I know use a staff though. Its basically x/x/30/30/x, shouts, pvt weapons, 3 pvt 3 knights armor, emerald jewellery, soldiers runes. Sharpening stone and then some sort of toughness food.

I am not sure the maker understands how much healing the 5 in virtues would give though in the middle of combat, but the build would be very durable.

Hide in Plain Sight (the old DnD term for stealthing right in front of someone) has always been a bad pvp mechanic. It was disabled on Bastions of War when I played for this reason. Guys had to use terrain to restealth. Stealth is ok if it is used to get the jump on someone, but it is hard to deal with if a person can stealth right in front of you after attacking you. It’s then that Stealth crosses the line as you can enter and leave combat at a whim. You are not punished for your bad decision to attack someone, you can just restealth and try again later. Stealth in this game is a worse mechanic than any I have ever seen. Stealthing should cost you something, in this case you both heal and regen energy when stealthed which is backwards.

In this situation, what annoys me is that Anet promised no permastealth and yet it exists.

Yes it is Anet fault, and it is the players fault as well. Most players are well aware of how the skill lag occurs and yet they still transfer to the most populated servers, and then complain about skill lag. There should be a limit on stupidity.

Skill lag existed way back when I played on a T3 or T4 server. Get into SM and it existed. For some reason it has gotten far worse this week than any other. Maybe something to do with the patch coming up. Maybe a recent coding change that is not working right.

People have transferred to the big 3 servers so that they can log in and WvW in a competative environment. I don’t blame them at all. WvW is a game best played with 30 or more people on each map. It was hard to do with the 20+ total people on my old server.

The lower tiers are just not competative any more and people don’t want to play there. Mostly, because Anet has not listened to the player base and moved fast enough to improve this aspect of the game, particularly the rewards, and lost WvW players as a result. WvW is GW2’s end game, Anet just does not realise it yet. They are too busy constructing Living Story BS. By time they realise it the players will all be gone and they will be without jobs.

Somehow watching your bottom bar and removing conditions is now skilled play.

Conditions are supposed to be slow damage so the builds that use conditions have been given survivability in their design and gearing.

Quite simply so many can be stacked on so quickly, that they are now fast damage, yet the buids still have survivability.

And that is what is wrong with the meta.

As a Guardian if I spec survivability, my damage is really poor. But a lot of classes can spec surivivability and do quite high damage with conditions. There is very little trade off.

So they can either make it harder to stack up that much damage or make the condition spammers squishy. They won’t do either…. for a while at least.

I usually run some variation of 0/?/30/30/? build with AH.

Is there any combination of gear that will give me:
35% crit
3000 Attack/Armor
19k health
1000 healing

I have spent hours on the builder and can’t work it out.

I can get all those numbers except the 3000 attack. By the end of the month I should have enough laurels to buy a full set of Ascended Jewellery.

I would/do grab the 5 point traits in Radiance and Virtues. The 5 in Virtues is really good with AH. 10 in Virtues is quite flexible as you can swap in consecrations or a little more retaliation.

I wouldn’t make a whole set from it.

I have been enjoying having 1k+ healing. It does make a difference.

Symbols Heal is very underrated if you have 1k+ healing.

I have 2k healing and they don’t heal for very much. 1000 healing just adds 75 healing per second to the symbol. Meh.

I went and tested it. Seems to be the same as Virtue of Resolve. Maybe more. So with something like a hammer you get a steady flow of healing.

I don’t really get why Battle Presence is not the grandmaster trait at the top of this tree.

The traits to buff single virtues is kinda lame. Would love to see

- Using virtues Removes 1 or 2 Conditions
- Using virtues grants protection and/or regen

- Using Virtue of ???, either courage or resolve, transfers 2 conditions to your target – this might make you a bit of a counter-caster

- I can not see why there is not a trait to also increase boon duration 15 or 20% in the tree somewhere

The whole Idea behind these is to give some options to people who want to hybrid. Everyone I know or see in WvW is running shouts and Honor for good reason. It would be nice to get some more options. This would make virtues very powerful for someone who wants to be a group support and allow you to spec into some damage trees instead of Honor. In fact, Honor would be kind of redundant if you went virtues. Then you might not have to run shouts any more, the Valor meditations would be that much better.

I think the people who are upset are upset because they seem to be ignoring the actual problems with the class. And that we have a whole array of underwhelming skills one is looking at improving.

1 year in and I don’t recall ever logging in and seeing a really nice change for guardian.

Are they looking at mobility? Nope
Are they looking how long our CD are on many skills? Nope
Are they looking at our health pool vs health regen? Nope
Are they looking at improving our basic pvp builds beyond ?/?/30/30/?? Nope
Are they fixing the condition meta that hurts us so much? Nope
Are they improving our damage in a meaningful way? Nope
Are they looking at our weak traitlines and fixing them? Nope

I think its as amusing as kitten that the classes with the least effective health have the fewest effective builds in pvp. Why? Because its such a struggle to survive we have to go high defense to last longer than a fart.

People should think more about “how to counter” and post suggestion about that rather than “QQ, please nerf”.

I think the poster was more concerned with the fact that they are being buffed again, when the current warrior is plenty powerful and one of the most survivable classes in the game.

I don’t see anything particularly wrong with their plans, except they seem to be ignoring the Traitlines people would like to see improved.

Hopefully, they will apply some nerf to conditions. If I didn’t have to totally spec around removing them then I might be able to use a more hybrid build, like I used to, and actually have some kittening fun again.

I’d love the 3 to have a short stun. It would just make sense really.

The #1 3rd skill is way too slow. Same with #2. But otherwise its secretly one of our best weapons.

great thanks man. good call on 0/5/30/30/5, that’s a nice touch. PVT + zerker gives much better stats than pvt + knights with ruby jewels

Knights Helm, PVT shoulders legs hands feet, Beserker Chest
Emerald neck ring earring, Beryl ring earring
Beserker weapons

You have it backwards

Chest should be PVT and shoulders, hands, and feet should be zerker, with that you lost no stats at all while gaining 1% extra crit damage

Probably. I bought the exotics piece by piece when the game started and gear was not in any of the builders yet.
