Devs believe in Conquest so much that it’s almost like fanaticism. To many, it doesn’t work. People have left the game already. And I’m becoming a convert too. Now, everytime i zone solo queue now, all i see are bunker kitten builds that is meant to hold a point, op warrior and thief and kitten. And I get kitten ed. I ask myself if this is PvP. A voice in my head tells me that you need to imagine what my GW1 experience is.
.
Exactly, we have 100’s of threads asking for some different modes and in his post he defends Conquest further.

I get the feeling the people helping Jon are all ‘Yes Men’ they don’t tell him what he needs to hear. I have seen the same thing in many video games, where the alpha testers all worship the devs and they don’t point out the glaring errors. Same thing happened in this game when it was in Alpha and Closed Beta, the people pointing out issues were loudly shouted down by fan boys.
Anet lied (where’s the Manifesto now?)
My big issue is I have to spec 100% condition removal for pvp. How will this is affected in the next patch will determine whether I keep playing or take a break and wait for Wildstar/TESO etc…
Anet lied (where’s the Manifesto now?)
I would like to also point out that most of the people Spvping only do so to get the daily laurel. They show up on the metrics as players but most don’t enjoy it that much.
Anet lied (where’s the Manifesto now?)
Colin I appreciate that you posted here, but your words ring very shallow given the past year and how little focus SPVP recieved and how it is in a worse state now than 6 months ago.
Coming out of Beta SPVP was much hyped and anticipated but it died a quick death for many reasons. The maps are not very fun, too much CC and zerging being the most rewarding style of play – are some of the many factors contributing to its demise. The first big mistake was probably having 8v8 maps for hotjoin. Terrible class balance for hot join has also meant a quick death of SPVP. When thieves and mesmers are/were able to kill people in seconds, it was never going to go well.
I have only witnessed minor adjustments and some rather poor new maps in one year. It seems to me that this part of your GW2 team is either very under funded or really bad.
Meanwhile pve gets ready for another lame and meaningless Living Story Update.
Rewards. The reward system is really bad and is not linked to the outside world at all. If you want to keep it cosmetic only – the skins I earn there should be able to be used with any item I own. Cultural/rare skins should be purchasable from a merchant: 15k glory for a cultural or interesting weapon 25k, 50k for a rare world skin like Foe Fire’s essence. Unique armor skins could be made for pvpers.
I also think you should be zble to level alts there. 10 level scroll 5-10k glory.
To me though the most essential part of rebuilding SPVP is making hotjoin more fun. The easiest method would be to introduce some of the beloved maps from GW1. And make hot join 6 v 6. I can’t get people to try it when Hotjoin is so unpleasant.
Anet lied (where’s the Manifesto now?)
My guild is primarily a WvW guild and NONE of the other members will SPVP saying it is not any fun and there are no rewards.

I think when a pvp game is reduced to skillessly spamming a single button at a person or a series of circles on the ground its pretty skilless.
I am tired of condition spam. As soon as you take them off they are reapplied in mere seconds.
Please fix.
Any class with a big health pool and a strong condition build is pretty much godmode.
Its no surprise to me Peters is well known for playing a Necromancer. Its just too funny.
This is a stupid, senseless rant.
This game has been all about spam since release and Peters is not well known for playing a Necromancer at all. He’s playing it in this period just to figure out how to tune it properly, before the June patch, none has seen him playing Necro except maybe one time.I see you’re playing guardian. Do you really think that guardian isn’t all about boon spam either?
Peters has been manning a Necro since beta. Shows how much you know.
Anet lied (where’s the Manifesto now?)
I do my daily and that’s it. 4 matches is faster than the pve daily.
Primarily the new condition meta is unpleasant.

If I was to make one change it would be to move Battle Presence to the virtues tree.
Other suggestions
I’d like to see all the symbol traits rolled into 2. And maybe a new GM symbol trait for the Honor Tree that adds either condition removal or regen to symbols and increases thier damage.
I would like to see MF moved down out of grandamster and a new GM trait that when you use a Meditation it heals allies and removes 1 condition from allies.
Move the cd with 2 handed weapons to zeal combine with a 10% damage bonus with 2handed weapons.
Increase the healing from the GS trait that heals and combine with crit from GS has 10% chance to move a condition to a foe Or maybe add torment to a foe… to make a new zeal GM trait.
Radiance also needs love but I have no ideas for it.

It is kind of amusing that people keep saying we have such amazing coverage. Its hard for us to put 30 or 40 in each of the 4 borderlands during OC and off hours. Small guilds like ours are porting all over the map trying to fill holes.
Weekends are a different story. Coverage over the 48h + is simply amazing and the coordination really fun to be part of.
Anet lied (where’s the Manifesto now?)
Doing so would invalidate the time people spend acquiring that gear. I think the heart of your post is in the right place, but what we would rather do is make possible for people to get the gear by playing WvW with a sprinkling of PvE, rather than the other way around.
Why should I have to take up crafting to have an Ascended weapon?
Crafting is neither pvp or pve but pvb… player versus boredom.
Anet lied (where’s the Manifesto now?)
I’m going to have to say no on this. Anyone can get ascended gear if they grind for it. It’s your choice if you choose not to. The only reason to get ascended gear anyway for most people is so you’ll be stronger in WvW. There would hardly be a reason to get it if all you do is PvE as that’s easy enough already. Keep spvp in spvp where it belongs. I like the way things are now.
In the Manifesto and their prelaunch press they said that there would be no gear grind. Any grinding would be for long term and impressive cosmetic improvements.
Your comment shows the WOW mindset they said they would free us of.
I vote yes.
Until such time as normal WvW play is going to give players Ascended items.

All the wvw basics you guys seem to have just forgot i mean where’s the superior siege and all these other issues what i say take it as you like but in the end im just as much SoS as you and still have an account on the server so its tough to see how much more of a well organised machine SoR is and then i look at SoS and think cmon guys quit kittening around.
Please stop giving these guys advice. I am enjoying all the bags I cam currently getting.
Like Cameron, I played on SOS a long time and loved the server, but the negativity and lack of coordination was too much and made WvW a miserable experience.
He was offering good advice, I hope you don’t take it.
Hmmm-for a person who played on SoS for a long time-I see you posted in other matchup strings but not on SoS? I don’t know where you think the negativity was. Maybe right after the drop but everyone is nice. We have a great and postive group of people who have stepped up leadership.
Well when I decided to take a break, about 6 weeks after the free transfers ended, all I saw in map chat was complaints about the lack of commanders then people defacing those trying to command. It came down to too many small guilds and no real leaders.
When I came back from a break, all my friends were playing on SOR so I went there. If that makes me evil, I am sorry.
The whole time I was on SOS I kinda felt that it needed one or two really large guilds, one for each coverage period to drive the server. I felt most of the people were nice and I enjoyed playing with many, but frustration was bringing out the worst in some.
Playing on SOR I have learned a lot about what a good server does to win fights. On SOS it was clear, other than TSYM, none of the other guilds I saw had a clue. I feel pretty confident with our our teams can take on odds of nearly 2:1 and wipe you all. I don’t see SOS applying the same builds or strategies to fights. I get the feeling a lot of people are not even running good builds, let alone using their team buffs effectively.
Cameron offered advice of forming some bigger guilds, using more survivable builds and flat out learning team play. I am just as happy that you guys are quite happy all running beserker as I am making some nice gold this week. Now if only one of you would drop a precurser!
Anet lied (where’s the Manifesto now?)
I would argue that the game design is kinda flawed. If everyone had Ranger’s base health, the weak classes would surivive better and the tankiest classes wouldn’t be so overpoweringly strong. It’s just that simple really. The classes that are complaining most have low health and only one or two real roles. Those that are quite happy have high.
Mesmer and Thief are a bit of a different kettle of fish as they have survivability through their stealth and inv and that is a bit harder to measure. Skilled players are nearly unkillable and unskilled ones are a joke. You can put the same unskilled player on a Ranger and he will do just fine. I guess you could up their health and up their CD on some of their skills in compensation.
Anet lied (where’s the Manifesto now?)
I won’t get into traits in this thread as it didn’t seem to be the intention.
If weapons were added:
A Warhorn – CC and speed
An Offhand sword – apply dots and mobility
Skills:
I would like the CD of many of our Consecrations looked at. All CD’s dropped a bit across the board, with a couple exceptions.
Speed Signet
Hellball – Some form of nuke that hits for damage and applies chill to a Necro size group
Blink skill – so you can blink out of trouble – it sucks being stuck in a bad situation and having no recourse at all
Wave of Wrath – an AOE field that buffs yours and allies damage
Anet lied (where’s the Manifesto now?)
Every top guardian I know runs pvt armor for wvw.
Given your build pvt armor/beserker jewellery. Or pvt armor/emerald jewellery. Maybe a second pvt or beryl neck for saturdays.
With food and oils you can get 50% crit and crit damage, 18k + health and about 3k armor and power.
Anet lied (where’s the Manifesto now?)
Azshene really validated what I have felt for some time.
Bunker guardian is strong, but hybrid guardian, which is what most want to play, is weak.
Ty for the interview.

I really don’t think we are that great 1v1 any more. But roaming with a high dps class is great. You provide the support that they need to take on other small groups. For that I really like the Healway.
I am not sure I can beat anyone with a Healway, but I can definitely take on a couple of attackers and frustrate them tremendously, while my buddies take them out with their dps.
For a DPS spec, your best to find someone not quite at full health and then try to down them with Whirling Wrath and JI. Let’s face it not all servers are equal, if you play in Tier 1 you know that most people are pretty tanky and unless you get really lucky your not going to dps them down in any build. The PVT armorer in that tier is wore out from all the labor. Also, there are huge zergs roaming around all the time and avoiding them is pretty frustrating. And last I checked I didn’t have stealth. You’d have more fun joining the Mele train.
Step down to T2 and beyond and people are often a lot squishier and some of our DPS and hybird specs work. Playing on JQ and saying spec X Y Z won’t work because SoR and BG are all running tank builds is probably true. But drop down into T2 or beyond and a lot fo those builds work a lot better.
Anet lied (where’s the Manifesto now?)
Usually I use a mace/sheild and staff version of the Healway Guardian to roam with my guildies thieves.
I also had luck with 0/30/30/5/5. Inscribed signets, Monks Focus. GS – mace or scepter/focus or shield. I switch he second weapon around a lot.
Anet lied (where’s the Manifesto now?)
Let me see the spec.
I would think running meditations 0/30/30/5/5 – 3 meditations as skills, inscribed signets and purity would be enough condition removal. But its not.
Or even a shout build various iterations of 0/?/30/30/? – pure voice, soldiers runes… either. But its not.
Truth is as soon as the conditions are stripped they are put back on. So after 10 seconds all your abilities are spent and conditions are still working their magic. I tested last night duelling a Necro and he could replace them in 4 or 5 sec pretty easily.
This isn’t a problem on my warrior. Nearly 30k health and the healing signet I can just ignore 3 or 4 depending on the type but with a guardian and 15-18k health its a big issue. I have 6 CC and do more damage on my warrior. Plus I can move at +25% all the time without any special gear or lame staff.
I don’t know what the answer is. Conditions were always guardian’s weakness and now 70% of the people you fight use them. Why? Good damage and you can run a pretty tanky spec across most other classes. I don’t think conditions will be nerfed any time soon. They have already given the candy to the kids, they can’t take it back yet. So the only answer is to review our class and make some adjustments.
So to answer the OP, roll a Warrior.
Anet lied (where’s the Manifesto now?)
I fon’t think our damage/survivability allows us to 1v1 any more.
I used to be able to beat most of the other classes 1v1 maybe 50-60% of the time. Now… no.
Sure I could maybe pimp myself out with all beserker gear and using high crit assassinate a few dps specced people in WvW occassionally, but most people with a decent build will win.
Anet lied (where’s the Manifesto now?)
You might want to pick up Pure Voice rather than 15 in Radiance. But otherwise its a pretty standard build.
Anet lied (where’s the Manifesto now?)
great thanks man. good call on 0/5/30/30/5, that’s a nice touch. PVT + zerker gives much better stats than pvt + knights with ruby jewels
You can always mix a bit. I find 20k health pretty necessary at times. Others not so much. So a spare couple pieces of Beserkers doesn’t go astray.
My whole set is a mismatch and I have no idea why… guess I am a tinkerer
Knights Helm, PVT shoulders legs hands feet, Beserker Chest
Emerald neck ring earring, Beryl ring earring
Beserker weapons
I also have a spare pvt chest and beserker pants
I have a set of soldier and a set of speed (hope they fix this as im not moving faster)
I might build up some Melandru armor and see how that goes
Generally with food 3k power, armor, 50 crit and crit damage, ~20k health

I still feel a Signet of Speed would be the way to go. If I want to sacrifice an ability for speed then that is a fair trade off.
Sacrificing so many other things that the runes on armor give you seems a bit unfair. We are already the hardest class to equip.
When they finally update this class, I hope they give us this option.
I replaced my thiefs signet with the rune. Utility Slot is worth WAY more then a rune set.
Yeah but thiefs have so many cool skills. Guardians are on such long CD I would rather have the passive.
Anet lied (where’s the Manifesto now?)
Guardians aren’t in the worst spot ever, but they are definitely hurting.
I reckon we are probably in the bottom 3 classes if not the worst class atm. We used to be in the Top 3. The new changes that lead to massive conditions are a direct counter to us in PVP.
Necros, Warriors, Rangers, and Thieves are all much better than us in a 1v1 fight. Mesmers and Eles seem to be better too. There was a time I could front any of these classes 1v1 and kill them, player skill being the determinant.
I still play mine as I like the weapon skills and the look. But I admit its not very powerful. I feel have to work insanely hard to do reasonably. There, now you have lots of condition removal!*The tools to remove conditions are there… *
[off-topic]
Isnt that build kinda far from having lots of condition removal???Removing 3 condis per shout + 2 each ten seconds, even if could remove that, after “waste” your shouts, that is 6 condtitions removed and 3 trnaformed to boons only with shouts for sure you would have loads of conditions back in 2 or 3 seconds.
I really dont know what WvW people do, unless they play only based to melee damage, wich IMO was the old gameplay of lower tiers, to beat the odds player start to play necro swarms wich showed to be pretty efective due the number of conditions vs conditions removals, canceling stability symbols and boons, massive fear and craploads of wells, this also works on small scale expecially if you have 1 or 2 good thief.
I was exaggerating a little.
The truth is I have to spec so much for condition removals in my various pvp I don’t have any points left to really enhance my fun skills.
On the other hand, I can make a pretty tanky warrior and still have points left to throw into a couple damage skills or abilities that you really notice and have fun with.

I really think it is an issue with the Meta of the game atm that conditions apply and get reapplied with ease.

The gear never seems to match what I want to do or give me enough health. In SPVP I log in and do the daily and log out. It stopped being fun a while ago.
To the OP: Read the other thread. Roll a warrior. The class balance dev plays one and that is why it is so strong. There is nothing else to consider.

Buffs you and nearby allies.
Burns enemy and nearby foes.Guardian is a SUPPORT class, it is NOT meant for 1v1. The game is not balanced around 1v1, stop trying to balance the game around 1v1.
Support what? My buffs last like 5 seconds. 5 sec of support, 30 sec of Cd… I can hear the conversation now, “Boy am I glad the guardian was there to support me with a tiny 5 second buff that a simple condition already puts on me. I am really glad he is on my team.”
In pvp I encounter 1v1 fights all the time. The maps are designed around it. I think I should have a chance vs these classes. I used to be able to beat them before they got buffed. I used to be able to beat thieves too but I had to change my build to fight off conditions and now I can’t. The last balance patch really made this the worst class in the game.
Sure you can be the best at dishing out might. Whippy do.

I know what will builds Variety.
Put Healing Power in the Valor Tree.
Put Boon Duration in the Honor Tree.
Put Critical Damage in the Virtues Tree. Now your not stuck in 0/0/30/0/0 because you don’t have all your damage/defenses in one nice little tree.
And we would have even less useful builds. GJ

I am not really understanding how the Warrior signet can heal for so much when the Warrior has such a big health pool – using Virtue of Resolve and the justifications for our small health pool as a reference point. There is something imbalanced about the whole scenario.
Anet lied (where’s the Manifesto now?)
Anet lied (where’s the Manifesto now?)
At launch we were likely one of the 3 best classes. ATM I think we have shifted into being one of the 3 worst. The other classes have all been buffed almost to counter Guardians.
The only situation where a Guardain really excels is in WvW when you have a bunch of them. And this is basically because of stability and might. They got nothing else.
And in no other part of the game do they really shine.
Oh your still the best bunker! I call BS on that one. You and Necro arrive on the same point he turns all your boons into conditions. Then after you clear them, he chucks down a well. You clear them again. He just reapplies. 40 seconds later you are dead. Or you stand off the point while he captures it.

Been going for some pretty balanced stats.

I’d get the runes of speed.
Vitality + Speed

In PVE I always had great fun running 0/30/30/5/5. Mace/Focus and Scepter/Torch. With high crit and some range you can tear mobs apart. Mace/Focus is exceptionally tanky and effective for when you need to be.

After committing to fully playing a warrior in SPVP for a bit, I agree with the OP’s post.
Anet lied (where’s the Manifesto now?)
I don’t play WvW so I can’t comment on that. I can tell you that 0/5/30/30/5 is bad. Like, you could actively be trying to make the worst possible build and it’d still be better than that.
Also, you can’t have max DPS output and still make survivability tradeoffs. That’s technically impossible, if you are speccing for survivability you’re losing DPS. You can, however, come pretty close to a high-survivability, high DPS spec with something like 10/30/20/10/0 sword/shield.
If you are taking part in T1 WvW, you are likely part of a mele train and the 30/30 build is pretty good for that situation.
Is it the best 1v1 build. No. But it might be one of the best in that sort of situation where you have lots of people to proc AH off of.
Now I know some people run other builds in the same situation, Synergy Builds – Boon Builds etc, and a good guild will tell you what they want you to run, but if you are trying to take part in T1 pvp and don’t know what to run you could do a lot worse than the 30/30 AH build.
If I am running by myself or in a small group I generally use a different build.

Wait is the whole point of this thread trying to prove that gw2 doesnt have a gear treadmill but a gear grind. That doesnt make it any better….
It doesn’t make it better to you. It makes it a whole lot better to me.
See, the gear itself, to me, needs to be optional. I don’t need it. Case in point, I run characters with rares and exotics mixed, no ascended and I can do everything I want in the game. This hasn’t been true in any other MMO I’ve ever played. That’s the real difference.
In other MMOs not having BIS gear means not seeing content at all. In Guild Wars 2….not so much.
But when gear has better stats it is then NOT optional for pvp or other competitive activities. Therefore it is now a treadmill. Whether the increase is only a few percent or not it makes no difference.
Anet lied (where’s the Manifesto now?)
Ranger is actually the second most played class in the game.
http://www.guildwars2hub.com/news/guild-wars-2-first-year-infographic
Because they’re popular botting classes. Don’t throw stupid numbers like that.
I find they are quite popular in SPVP Hotjoin and in open world pve there are heaps, maybe 20% of players or more.
In WvW its a different story, the big servers love their mele trains.
Anet lied (where’s the Manifesto now?)
How would that be any fun (umn grind)? To do the activity in the game you enjoy and be rewarded for it appropriately.
You know, to play the way you want to play and be rewarded for it? I heard those words before (perhaps in the Manifesto). Maybe Anet should go back and watch it.
That’s what they’re doing, they specifically placed the items needed to make t7 mats in chest of activities people were already doing throughout the game so they wouldn’t have to go out of their way to get them.
Let’s put it this way you are pretty naiive.
You are able to hit a lot more of those types of chests and creatures by doing the various champ runs and hit them over and over much faster.
I think if you tried to get an ascended weapon from WvW only it would take you at least a year (if even possible). I know people who have ground a legendary from the champ runs in a week.
The problem is its not balanced and its not rewarding you evenly for WvW and Pve. Unless you can purchase one with WvW currency like Laurels then its not acceptable.

Adding one tier of gear does not constitute a treadmill. It is merely a flight of stairs once you get to the top (ascended) your done. There is no infinite stair case chasing new tiers of gear beyond ascended.
However if once the full ascended is out and they come out with a new tier you can officially call it a treadmill.
Getting an Ascended weapon is about as grindy as getting a similar weapon in Linage 2… food for thought.
I had no issue with a Legendary being grindy as it was purely cosmetic and a lot of blokes did it just to look awesome, or because they wanted something to do, but now that both will carry better stats, its a treadmill in the traditional sense.
I think that the word treadmill was never designed to talk about how grindy getting something is or isn’t. That’s not what the treadmill referred to. A treadmill is something you get on but you don’t get off.
If Anet keeps introducing tiers of gear..if there’s no ceiling, this is indeed a treadmill. Something that’s grindy and takes a long time to get, no matter if it has higher stats or not doesn’t make it a treadmill.
It just makes it a grind.
Anet has to keep adding to its gear treadmill because its model for horizontal progression was pathetic at best. So it has creeped in an Ascended treadmill one piece at a time.
Now it might not meet your definition, but it sure met the definition of many of my guildies who were not happy about it. Most of which were long term GW1 players but will be shifting onto other games in the spring. So GJ Anet at losing loyal customers.

Its pure easy mode. With the right build its as tanky as a guardian, has mobility, and is ranged. Who could ask for anything more?
