Am I? No. Are you?
His argument included absolutely no elements of gameplay whatsoever. I merely took that to its extreme (and logical) conclusion. This was meant to highlight its ridiculousness- which, evidently, you missed.

His arguments is as good (if not better) as 99% of posts made by “professional tPvP players”:
“lel cheese OP builds” (ofc w/o any discussions about alternative builds)
“omg <ability name> so broken, here is my awesome idea – nerf it to the ground!” (ofc not a single phrase about how build can be played without this ability)
“<classname> killed me 100500 times, crazy OP nerf plz nao” (ofc our great professional player never gonna tell us his build and never give more information about his fights).

At least he is honest about himself and his game and not pretending to be Greatest Expert Of PvP Community Ever With Mad Skillz And 1000+ Years Of Experience.

Whether his arguments are as good as 99% of other players’ is irrelevant. What is relevant is the merit of his arguments.
However, I must agree that he seems completely open to discussion, and for this I applaud him.

Counter argument? I need an argument to counter first.
Imagine taking a class, putting it in sPvP and going AFK to make tea. If I came back at the end of the game, and it had died, then your “argument” would qualify this as balanced – even if, most of the time, I would live. Clearly (I hope?) this is nonsensical in the extreme.
My recommendation: Provide numbers. Stats. Analysis. Comparisons. But saying “I run this and it sometimes dies” is mindbogglingly ineffective.

any warrior will not survive being away from the keyboard in the game. especially in a 8 vs 8 hotjoin game room.

if you wish, i could record a video.

what kind of numbers, stats, analysis, comparison you wish for me to provide?

well, it was more of a opinion sharing session.
yes, i did not show any elements of gameplay etc.
well, i did show what build my warrior was running though.

we can start from there if you wish to.

Excellent. To begin, I would like you to play an Elementalist. Any build you like, but include which in your response. Next, I would like you to take this build into a 1v1 arena, and duel every Healing Signet warrior you can find. ~10 should be a sufficient data pool. Record these duels on video.
Once that is done, take said Elementalist into sPvP. Play ~5 matches. Record the results of these matches, and your fights within them.
Compile a table of your wins, losses, draws in 1v1.
Create a pie-chart of health lost in these duels. As in, if I died after starting with 15k HP, and my enemy was down to 10k after starting with 20k, I would record a 15k loss for myself and a 10k for my enemy. Use the aggregate results of every duel.

That should be good enough for now. Thank you for your cooperation.
I await your video and response with great anticipation.

i speak for myself since i am a casual sPvP player and only plays in anet’s official 8 vs 8 hotjoin servers. nowadays in sPvP, i only play my warrior and he is far from godlike or cannot be defeated. he is harder to kill, yes, but not impossible. he still dies every now and then. so, based on this fact alone, my take is that, healing signet is not overpowered.

in short, healing signet is not overpowered because when a casual player uses it, they are not godlike, and still can be defeated.

WVW Build?

in Mesmer

Posted by: Requiem.8769

Requiem.8769

I would not recommend a hybrid build unless you have something specific in mind. Power/Toughness/Vitality (Soldier) is exceedingly useful in a zerg. You could also try Power/Precision/Crit Damage (Berserker), if feeling particularly bold.
I would trade the Sword/Torch for a staff; Mesmers are squishy creatures and ranged attacks are useful (also, the aoe boons/conditions from #5 and aoe bounces from #1). However, if you like the sword, you could try Sword/Focus for the swiftness and AoE phantasm.
Next, then, the traits. I understand you did not ask for these, but stat choice depends upon your trait/weapon choice. If you want to stick with your build, then ignore the following paragraph.
Phantasms tend to die quickly and horribly in zerg v. zerg, as do clones. I saw a build on these forums earlier today which was a clone death condition build, called the omni-clone build, or something like that. I believe it actually might have been something of a hybrid (travelers runes), with a heavy emphasis on conditions. This would be rather different from what you are currently running, I assume. Disregard it if you like.

Actually, just charging the Mantra will give you the heal effect, and proc the centaur runes swiftness. You don’t need to actually use the heal.
In this way, you don’t really ever need to “waste” the heal for swiftness.

Errr… You need to use the two-three heals to be able to charge. If you dont use the heals, you get 10 seconds of swiftness period. Not very good when its 15 minute PvP/3 hour WvW.

Also I was talking from a WvW perspective, obviously not PvP. In PvP, you barely need any speed at all, the maps are too small and the entire point is to engage the enemy and win, not run away.

No, that is simply not true. All you need to do is charge the mantra, not activate it. If you don’t like the heal from mantras, you can charge the mantra, proc the swiftness, and then switch to whatever heal you prefer. Repeating this every 10s will give you permanent swiftness, without using a single heal skill.
It also appears we have a different perspective on what swiftness is for. I like to use if for running toward the enemy, you apparently prefer it for running away. In my experience, it is exceedingly useful in PvP and WvW both. The role is different; the value is similar.
For PvP, swiftness lets you start the ticking at points sooner; decap enemy far points, and reach your own points and prevent decaps in time.
For WvW, swiftness lets you chase fleeing enemies, and make sure more of your skills land while fewer of theirs do.

Centaur runes is great in theory, in practice however it means that you must pop your heal on every cooldown to maintain speed (it work without mantra mastery as well btw). While it works fine running alone across a warm summer field with fluffy unicorns flying through the air farting rainbows, in a combat situation with Warrior axes flying all over the place and sweaty men in 100kg armour jumping like a bunny on crack over your head, it doesnt really work . You need your heal to be available on demand and use the proper moment to charge the mantra – especially if you traited it to do other things, such as condition removal (oh I need to remove 10s immobilize, nope I used it to get 10s swiftness, good trade!). Missing a beat in small scale against perma-speed classes is almost certain death.

I used them a long, long time before I switched to Traveller runes… Not going back. Usually the team has at least one warrior with a warhorn, which is better perma-speed.

In the solo queues I have been in, I have found it rare to get someone to drop group swiftness. So I’ve used Centaur Runes and find them to be quite useful in practice. If you are spamming your heal all the time to get swiftness, well, then you’re just stupid.

However, when you take some damage in a fight and pop your heal, suddenly you have swiftness too which really helps your mobility and positioning.

The reason why I mention Mantra Mastery is because it gives you a heal on an 8 second cooldown. This means if you need to run between capture points you can blow both heals and have it fully recharged by the time you reach the next node.

As a Mesmer, one of your roles is to support the team fights while either backcapping or back support. Centaur Runes go a long way to help support that role.

And Traveler Runes are not available in PvP.

Actually, just charging the Mantra will give you the heal effect, and proc the centaur runes swiftness. You don’t need to actually use the heal.

You need to decide whether you want a shatter or phantasm build. Right now, you have traits for both. My recommendation is to pick phantasm. Ditch Deceptive Evasion, and take 10 more into Domination for the 50% boost to your mantras. Change your Shattered Conditions GM trait into a +20% hp boost to illusions. Ditch pistol; use sword or focus (you have little condition damage).
By doing this, you:
1) Boost phantasms: DPS & survivability
2) Boost condition removal: +2 from MoRes, +1 from MoRec
3) Boost Healing: +50% from MoRec

Yep. I love how mesmers get stun breaks on their weapons but thieves are “overpowered” when we have it on one, because it’s spamable by design. Solution: up the initiative cost.

Phase retreat is not a stun break. It’s a teleport that can be used while stunned.
Swap is a stun-break. To be used, i-leap must have already been used, and within the past 5 seconds. It is occasionally useful, but it must be planned beforehand, and can be easily countered by simply not stunning for those 5s. It is typically better for juking than stun breaking.

mesmers spamming invis?

in PvP

Posted by: Requiem.8769

Requiem.8769

Probably a Prismatic Understanding (PU) build, with 20/20/30. It’s what the average roaming Mesmer runs nowadays. Typically Sc/T+Sw/P; with Prestige (4s; 30s), Decoy (4s; 40), Veil (6, 90) and Mass Invisibility (6, 90). Not perma-stealth, but it can be chained for some time. Particularly annoying with its dependence on phantasms.
A small weakness is its lack of mobility. The Mesmer cannot chase, and moving also disrupts the phantasm attacks.
My personal recommendation is not to bother. They cannot die unless they make horrible mistakes, many times, and after a long time.
