Personally, Malchor’s Leap is my most enjoyed zone in-game at the moment for probably this very reason: It’s not over-populated with farmers/selfish players.
I’ve spent the last week almost exclusively in Malchor’s Leap and I’ve found there’s generally two types of player-styles when asking for aid/help. One type of player whines and carries on how tough it is and blames anything else on why they’re having a tough time. The second type of player is one who generally asks politely for help/company with some event/challenge/boss. The former more often than not never seems to receive help, whilst the latter on the other hand does quite a bit.
As far as the Straits of Devastation go. It’s been far too buggy a zone for months now, so I totally understand why no one is there. Personally last time I was there with a group we had three separate patrol events stop on us. That SoD is so much fun when it all works, but it hardly ever seems to still.
So, yes; the zones are much more quiet. But if you ask nicely the people that are there will often come to your aid and help out. Finally, some of us much prefer that too (smaller groups).
As of now I’ve played over 1000 hours in-game since launch with one character. I don’t equate any sort of substantial enjoyment to materials things my character’s gotten or wealth they’ve gained. It is simply a game. Taking my time to explore the world, talk and listen to NPCs and learn the lore is what I enjoy. Loosing myself in the world so-to-speak. My character’s been lucky enough to meet and make some great friends whom are like-minded. To me that is true ‘wealth’, to use a somewhat crude term. With all due respect, personally I think your list is very narrow-minded for a ‘general overview’, sorry.
It seems that there’s a general pathing problem. Often the Southern Invasion gets bugged at various places. In the Straits yesterday i was leading a group of new Guild members around and it was quite sad to find that not one, but three separate group events there were all bugged out, and all for the same reason: NPCs just standing around. I hope it gets fixed sooner rather than later, or at the very least there’s some mechanism (event reset perhaps?) that’s put in place so these NPCs don’t continue to stand about in the one place for days on end anymore.
What Serelisk brought up works sometimes, but it’s certainly not a fail safe for such situations. And sometimes that’s simply not an option.
I’m sure this is in the bug list somewhere, but our burning (Virtue of Justice) not being applied from range is very annoying.
Totally agree.
Additionally, the number of bugs in this latest event so far is atrocious. Simply atrocious.
Whoever is in charge of quality control needs to be fired. In any other industry with this many customers they would be shown the door immediately.
Things need to change.
Yes, very true.
Sorry, I guess I wasn’t very clear. I was referring to the opposite though; when a boon is added to us but not allies, even when present, yet the AH still procs, that’s all.
Once again I think it’s probably a case of ambiguity in the skill description.
If you read the wiki , it says that Altruistic Healing triggers even if the boon is applied to yourself.
Thanks, quite different from what the skill description itself says.
Do we know if this is a bug or working as intended?
A lot of work you’ve put in here, quite interesting. I’m curious:
How does Vigorous Precision (VP) trigger Altruistic Healing (AH)? VP only applies to yourself doesn’t it, whilst AH only proc’s when you apply a boon to others? What am I missing here?
Thanks in advance.
I believe it’s already been said, but, if your wifes wants to be able to stand there and take a beating, Mace, Shield and Shouts work wonders. The ability to fire off a shout whilst not breaking your attack rhythm is very, very handy. Shouts also work well for those of us who live across the other side of the world (hence the horrid latency making it hard to always dodge/react in time) or who are otherwise not the quickest reactors. The more toughness the better (for the above reason too).
For, mace, shield and shouts I’d work with the trait lines of 0/0/30/30/10, but of course it’s all very personal-opinion based.
They do give some insight yes, thanks for that.
I have to mirror Obtena’s comments though and say that for the ‘lay reader’ your initial spreadsheet could be extremely misleading. Testament to this are some of the posts above where incorrect conclusions have seemingly already been made off the data.
Perhaps making it clear in your opening post that those damage figures can not be taken as a direct comparison between weapons for how they would perform (solely DPS-wise) when actually fighting (i.e. against an enemy that will provide for reactive damage) would probably be prudent.
Nevertheless quite interesting, thanks again.
Well if the game is just about getting to the max level for you, I’d say; roll an alt power-level them to 80 and rinse and repeat until you fill your character slots, then go play another game. Clearly that’s all that matters to you.
If you actually took the time to play the game as it was intended you’d never ever ask this question.
I think the induction times of the mace auto-attack (Mace Skill 1) are out of balance compared to other melee weapons.
Protectors Strike (Mace skill 3) is also very odd. It certainly does not work as the inscription for the skill says, and the block it applies works variably at best.
Oh and Raven’s Wings fix the /sit emote so we don’t continually fall through items!
Edit: Oh, and Azulia, your emote list in alphabetical order would be great, thanks in advance!

It’s true. They don’t have to be mutually exclusive.
However I know the frustration of buggy content and know it’s put some off whilst others are waiting for them to tell us it’s fixed before playing.
I think Anet having a lot better communication – it’s probably the worst of any MMO i’ve been involved with – as to what they’re doing/their plans, would go a long way too.
I agree.
Additionally it would be great if we could customise the emotes.
e.g.
a) for </wave @>
we could type
</wave waves goodbye to @>
Which would do the character animation of the wave along with our emote text. So, for Sue waving to Bill
‘’Sue waves goodbye to Bill’’
b) Would be great if ‘@’ worked for anything that we targeted and would work in emote/text speech in general.
For instance so if I typed <Hello @> it would output my target character’s name.
Also, if I pointed at an object and typed </point @> it would point with the animation and use the objects name. ‘’Sue points at boulder’’ for example.
I’d like to see them implement a skins system like DCUO has. You obtain the skin and it is saved as a “style”. You can then switch to that style at your leisure. There would be ‘styles’ for each armor piece. Would be nice if you could obtain “style” sets like you can get full armor sets.
That sounds like a great idea too. A collectible ‘skin’ section would be very handy. In fact I just might like this one better than the Lord of the Rings idea, as it would be nicer on our limited storage capacity.
Barber shop would be great for hair style/colour changes. It makes sense.
I don’t agree with any other option changes though, or, if they’re implemented, make them quite pricey in the gem store.
GW2, more than other games, relies on you to keep an eye on the enemy at all times and react to their skills/movements whilst in combat. This is a great thing, but the UI often hinders our ability to do this rather than enhancing it. As such (and as just one example), why we don’t have an option available to toggle party member’s names on and off as well as enemies names, seems, at the least, confusing. This is just one of many problems with the entire UI. I’m sure others have similar frustrations; as compared to many other premium mmorpgs, GW2’s just doesn’t stack up right now.
It would be nice if there were either;
a) A far-reaching overhaul to the UI so we can customise our experience significantly more so it doesn’t negatively effect game-play, and/or
b) A utility/ability to create our own UIs, so at least we could work around the problems ourselves if development won’t.
The whole transmutation system in my humble opinion should be redesigned. It’s pure failure so far as it even punishes you for transmuting gear. You jsut waste your money on it. You transmute your armor but then get bored with the look. What do you do then? Transmute it again? And then when u get bored u do the same thing? And completely waste cosmetic gear you have collected? Not much sense of achievment in it.
Of course u could get exotics with proper stats and transmute every single set however you want and then switch between them. But that is ridiculous…In my opinion they could copy Lord of the Rings online outfitting system, with this exception that you would need transmutation stones in order to use certain armor as a cosmetic.
Yes, totally agree.
A huge step forward would be having another set of equipment slots in our hero window which would be for our cosmetics. Lord of the Rings does it exceptionally well in this regard. Very, very well.
I do understand where you’re coming from. It can be annoying. But on the other hand, that’s battle; the enemy wants you to die.
So, I’m not so sure. I think it’s nice that there are a couple – the troll freeze is another one – of conditions/states that you just have to get out of the way/mitigate or else you’re effected and can’t do anything about.
More importantly I think it’s a useful learning curve for dungeon critters and other tougher enemies, where you have to prevent the condition, not cure it, or else you’re in serious trouble.
Folks the new gear is coming, like it or not.
Please let’s limit this discussion to how the game needs an inspection system to facilitate pugging the new FotM dungeon.
Pugs without inspection will not be possible.
Simple you ‘ask’ some.
An inspection option is a terrible, terrible idea.
In an otherwise generally successful/balanced launch, the Dungeons seem to be a real let-down. It is a shame yes. The various modes are a great idea, and have been successfully implemented in other MMOs.
However, at the moment here in GW2 they don’t pertain to allowing the community on the whole enjoyment regarding them. Yes they are doable, but personally the story-mode should be significantly reduced in difficulty. Reduce or completely remove any material/loot rewards if the developers want (It’s really only the vocal/egocentric minority whom are obsessed about the rewards over the enjoyment anyways), just make it so players can be challenged but succeed and enjoy the ongoing story these dungeons provide.
…
YES I can still do them, the fun part has gone though, upgrading my character with that shiny new bow I found. It will be too low.
…
This is a little misleading. When you return to a lower level zone and your level effectively throttles back, some loot you get will be appropriate to your actual level, not your throttled back level. The level throttling device in place is good. It could be a lot worse, so perhaps it’s best to see the glass half-full?
As far as cooking goes: When we took it up we were clearly warned by the NPC cook that it was the toughest of the crafting professions. Whilst the change is a little frustrating the developers have their reasons for it.
