Are there any safe third party programs that we can use to get rid of this? I know the rules and the use at your own risk blah, blah… I’m just wanting to enjoy the scenery of the game without the clutter. Even if a simple read it once, click to disable message could be implemented, it would be much appreciated.

A tad hypocritical to clean up in game visuals then add more crap!

The worst clutter of all: player overhead names you cannot remove when in group/squad. What an utter joke it is these days for a ‘AAA’ mmo not to have such a basic options.

but it seems I am being punished for wanting to heal.

Basically – and sadly – this is the case as summed up in the opening post.

When designing the game the developers had hoped they would create a mechanic where any mix of characters/class could fill the traditional ‘trinity’ albeit loosely.. Unfortunately, the result of their efforts was the basic destruction of that cornerstone of play.

If you double click the weapon in your inventory you want to equip, the weapon it replaces will go in the same inventory slot, as long as it’s a similarly handed weapon (i.e. one/two handed). This way either weapon will always stay in the same spot in your inventory safe bag.

Once upon a time one would play the game and the content therein because it was fun. Then it seemed one only did primarily for the reward. Now it seems one only does it for partial incremental progress towards a reward, hence needing to do it over and over and over again, making the content that was initially fun now stale and boring.

Gone are the days where online communities were brought together by their shared character similarities and relatedness in-game. Now replaced by any number of visually and cognitively obtrusive ‘reward badges’ that serve only to highlight differences.

How sad it is that the basics of human psychology that once were seemingly commonly known and used to tighten communities have these days been lost to this hedonistic materialistic desire to artificially show off how good we are. It only achieves one thing: Fragments the player base and perpetuates an ‘us and them’ mentality.

Reverielle.3972

I agree.

I understand it’s an mmo and things like this sometimes rightly so are long-term goals. But on the other hand GW2 was never ever marketed to be this way. The grind for these things is abhorrent at the moment, and when you add the unreliability of the client (crashes are still common in Dragon’s Stand), and the rush rush rush mechanic that the developers have put in place with everything being on a timer, even after you’ve slain the Mouth of Mordremoth… It just seems all a little childish.

The game is to be enjoyed, not rushed through. We’re on timers and deadlines with work all day, the last thing we need is a whole new set shoved in our faces whilst we’re enjoying our relaxation. I think development might be loosing sight of what GW2 is: a computer game.

It honestly feels like the developers may have designed great content to start with, then put all these extra hoops in place for us to continually jump through before being able to actually achieve anything.

Complete the entire meta event, open all the pods, and get lucky with the ore you find within and you still can’t even buy one significant reward from the merchant. In-fact you don’t even have time to buy the reward, as the map closes and kicks everyone out. That is an effort/reward system that misses the mark entirely.

Why can't I level my masteries anywhere?

in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

Reverielle.3972

I don’t mind being stuck in the jungle so much as running out of mastery points. Quite a few of them are locked behind mini adventures and achievements, which sucks. I miss being able to level up by just doing the activities I enjoy most.

This use to be the heart of what the game was about. I hope one day the Anet will make an effort to return there.
At the moment it feels like they’re all about making things ‘harder’ for players, and giving limited opportunity to play the game how a player wants and yet still progress their character in a meaningful way.
Basically, and broadly speaking, the game’s fundamentals are no longer what they were advertised to be, which is sad, because it was that original ideal that made the game such a success.

It would be nice if we had the option to go to our ‘home server’ map, and just stay there regardless of how populated or not it was. That would at least stop the incessant map closing and volunteering that pops up, or suddenly leaves you alone in a group meta event where one minute ago there were many other player characters about. There would still be a ‘mega server’ option, just bring back more stable maps too so if we don’t want to keep getting kicked about all the time we have the option not to.

I don’t think the mega server is the wonderful thing everyone thought it would be. It seems to cause more problems it solves.

Raids = good, Timers = bad

in Fractals, Dungeons & Raids

Reverielle.3972

The problem is with tank gear you could just lame out all the content and win, even if it would take 3 hours to beat all bosses.

And the problem with that would be .. what, exactly?

No, seriously, why do some people care so much how OTHERS complete content?

Rage timers are simply there to make the elitists feel good about themselves and be able to look down on those not as skillful at pressing 1-2-1-3-1-4-1-2-1-3-1-4 for minutes on end.

If someone or group can beat something in an hour let them, stop worrying about the ‘peen’ value of your phat lewt being devalued by the ‘casuals’ getting some too.

This isn’t kindergarten, bad players shouldn’t get the same rewards as good players. Any bad players can equip full zealots, drool on their keyboards, and eventually kill a boss. Doing so shouldn’t give you rewards.

I know, it’s a shock to the system, but in the real world excellence is rewarded and incompetence is not (usually anyway). So far Anet hasn’t released any PvE content that distinguished between the two until raids.

I can’t believe how much the above missed the mark. But each to their own. That are what forums are all about. Always amusing reading such strange points of view though.

Your ‘real world’ and ‘excellence’ analogy is laughable. As just one example to the counter: I’m sure the artist’s and the like of the world would be amused, and little more, at your careless comment.

Just because someone takes longer to do something doesn’t mean they’re a ‘bad player’ as you put it. In fact one could just as easily argue the other way, because for a longer time they have to be dodging, getting into the green, etc etc, and dealing with all the other combat mechanics. No ‘build/meta’ etc, negates those combat mechanics, so either you’re able to do them or not.

Finally; the more ways to enjoy content the better. It’s a fairly common sense rule.

Let's talk about it: DPS Meters

in Fractals, Dungeons & Raids

dps meters are toxic.

Yes.

Looking at it holistically it’s very clear that overall such features do far more harm than any niche of good a small percentage of players tout they do. I understand their benefit and have used them in the past, but I’m not for a moment foolish enough to even try and convince anyone that they provide more positives than negatives to a game.

Additionally, personally I think it’s ridiculous to even suggest such a mechanic is now needed, and base such an argument solely around one tiny part of the game: Raids.

in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

Reverielle.3972

I’ve never liked heart quests. Renown hearts were actually added much later in development than you would think. The “dynamic” events are what the groundbreaking change to MMO design was all about. The focus on meta events in the new maps is sorta depressing, though.

Yes, the whole thing has gotten an extremely linear/repetitive feel to it.

I agree with the OP, there’s no real feeling at all of progression/reward in the map. You can enter a map for the first time or the 100th time, and they will still basically interact with you the same. Talk to anyone, and they basically all say the same thing to you, all the time.

For what they are though, they’re very enjoyable. But they’re missing these added elements, that make your character really feel like they’re playing a part in and having an impact in the world. Admittedly a very difficult thing to do in an MMO, but something Anet achieved to a much greater realization with their original content. Progression seems to just be in the form of map completion, and that’s hollow at best.

I believe it’s wrong for small guilds to expect to have access to what larger guilds have achieved through their teamwork and commitment. It is right though to expect some sort of functionality and effort/reward system to be put in place in game that is reasonably able to be acquired for smaller guilds (i.e. 5-10 players). After all, there are a lot more smaller guilds out there than there are larger guilds.

I really want to swear at you for this statement: I payed the EXACT same price (beta player early start whatever) as you did or any other person at start, and you are basically saying I have not the same rights with my 2 person guild as a 500 person guild? So so , so shortsighted of you. I payed FULL price, I want FULL game being able to come to me in what ever shape or form, PLAY HOW YOU WANT, was their sales slogan, clearly now it is PLAY AS ALL OTHER MILLIONS OR LEAVE!

I really DO NOT care if it takes me 6 months or a year to achieve the same goals as a full 500 guild can do within 2 days, but I should BE ABLE to do so, and currently it is NOT possible! Oh wait yeah /insert whiney voice: HURRDURR JOIN A BIG GUILD, USE LFG!
No it should NOT be needed to do so. once again I payed full price, I want FULL access to ALL features, EVEN if it is hard to achieve or very costly, and once again it is NOT possible with the current system!

Swear and get upset all you like, but doing so doesn’t help anything. I agree with some of what you’ve said. But you have to look at it from all points of view, just not our own.

Paying for a game does not automatically entitle any of us to everything within that game. It never ever has been the way nor should it ever be the way. And it certainly has never been the way in MMOs in general. Using that same line of entitled thinking one could also argue that all the access/rewards in the upcoming raids should also be achievable by those that solo/duo/group. No one would ever ask for that, because it simply doesn’t make sense.

What I think there should be in place are a set of rewards/goals specifically designed for smaller/medium-sized guilds too. Right now as we know the focus is almost exclusively on larger guilds. As an example; I’d like to see guild halls available that are more designed for the smaller guild (like I wrote above), and other smaller scale target goals, that would logically become a focus for smaller guilds. It’s all about balance, and – most importantly – variety when it comes to MMOs. Right now Guild Wars 2 lacks this variety with regards to guild functionality.

There should be incentives and rewards for guilds of all sizes in the game. Asking for smaller guilds to have the same options, regardless of the work involved, takes away some of the reward from the larger guilds. I don’t think doing that is the best way forward.

I did not swear nor am i upset, rather frustrated about things I payed for and have no access too because I want to play the game my way, that is not being entitled nor am I demanding anything, it is the way GW1 and GW2 have worked till HoT came out. GW1 I have my own GH, GW2 I have my own guild, HoT made it impossible. Seems that fair?

I never said I want it all NOW and I do need less work for it then any other guild, I just want to be able to have ACCESS to it. to progress I MUST have more then 5 people. But seeing there is only 2 people currently active in my guild (actually it isnt since HoT got tried by us we basically left it behind other then logging in for some dailies so now and then) I am not currently considered a “Guild” and are not ALLOWED for the same features EVERYONE payed for. Seems that fair? I do not care if i need to work a complete year towards a GH as opposed to a huge guild having to do it in a week or less, ALL I ask for is the same ACCESS!

Well, sadly, if you’re going to blatantly contradict yourself, it’s pointless trying to have any constructive conversation about it. Which is disappointing, because I think it’s a worthwhile topic.

I just wish more thought was put into it, and it was more of an ‘evolution type progression tree’, rather than this odd system we have. I mean, it’s okay. But there’s nothing remotely exciting about it.

At this point in time I can’t see anyone in future down the track in other MMOs saying something like “remember the mastery system back in Guild Wars 2? It was great! I wish something like that was here in this game”. It’s that sort of thing they (development) should be striving to create with all content.

When helping other players it’s always nice if you can interact and take part as well.

Getting Guild Halls too Hard

Reverielle.3972

I think it’s fairly clear the guild system is fundamentally flawed at the moment. And I am sure the people at Anet realise this problem.

It’s fine having guild functionality that focuses on larger guilds, and for what that is currently it is okay. It’s another thing entirely have that as the only functionality in game regarding guilds.

Guilds come in many forms and sizes, and the smart MMO developers realise this and cater to all these in game. Not just one type which unfortunately is the current state right now in Guild Wars 2.

The most disappointing thing in all this is that the old guild system in the game accommodated a much wider scope of guilds and styles than the new system does. The new system, whilst great in some aspects, on the whole is a step backwards.

Personally I think Anet have lost sight of the fundamental value of what guilds provide. Let’s hope they rediscover that, beyond their own current seemingly narrow-minded view they want to force everyone into.

Yes, it’s a lovely little place isn’t! We have – and do – use that. I was sort of thinking very similarly to that, but perhaps with themes for each of the races. Like a homestead somewhere, or a lab, or grove-esque area, etc etc. Lots of possibilities.

Silverwaste Event Nerf?

Reverielle.3972

Can we get an anet statement on this? Is it intentional and if so why? It will not stop tagging … taggers will just time things to arrive at events towards the end. It will hurt people who are playing as intended though.

I think they should change things so you have to be at an entire event and take part to receive a gold contribution reward, after all it is the highest. It wouldn’t matter how many enemies you slew; if you came in at the the very end you would only receive bronze contribution at best. And if you leave an event, and are out of range when it completes; you receive nothing. Edit: Maybe not nothing, but bronze. Nothing is a little extreme I think.

Altering the criteria for the levels of contribution, gold, silver, bronze would help a lot. They need fixing.

Events are usually about helping the NPCs with whatever problems they’re facing in the world, and the reward at the end, is theoretically from the NPC themselves as thanks for aid. It’s just been largely streamlined so players don’t actually have to talk to the NPC to receive said reward. And of course over time players have learnt to exploit this. So changes are clearly needed.

Yeah.. this system is really.. lame. People put in work into events.. who cares if they don’t stick till the last tick when the event ends.

The thing is.. it’s still work put into it and not being rewarded for helping take out a vet or mobs even a bronze is dumb.

I care. I’m so tired of people leeching events. It was a huge problem in the Silverwastes and Drytop. People scaling up events and doing the absolute minimum.

Yes, I prefer this system even if I lose the occasional event reward and face it, that’s all anyone really loses. You’re not losing 10% of your event rewards. Leeching however was rampant.

I care too. There’s nothing worse than fighting with several others, only to realise 15 seconds later you’re fighting basically alone against 10+ enemies, because they’ve all left. It’s utterly frustrating.

The biggest ‘nerf’ in my opinion is the one they did to the Hero Points System in Central Tyria. It goes entirely against their philosophy that they launched the game on the back of.

New Level 80 characters not being able to earn Hero Points like the rest of us have been for years once they reach level 80 is probably the biggest slap in the face. Such a completely thoughtless, and rushed system.

As a leader of a small guild with some newer players this ridiculous change is felt acutely each day, and does nothing to their enjoyment in the game, nor their opinion of ArenAnet.

And if people don’t enjoy themselves, we all know they will go somewhere else. And I certainly don’t want them leaving.

There are a lot of little things I’ve noticed (like NPC mouths not moving when the speak, and the ridiculously clunky implementation of ‘activities’) that show a slow decline in the quality of product they’re producing.

When they stop caring about the little things, the much bigger things suffer as well. And masteries, being one of those bigger things, it a perfect example.

These aspects are just very disappointing. Don’t get me wrong, there are parts I love about the expansion – the look of the new area/s is wonderful as always for example – it’s just a shame they don’t seem to care as much as they once did about their product.

It’s a real shame that Sanctum Sprint is still basically unplayable seemingly with a moderately high latency (~280 ms).

I hope it gets fixed. Because it looks a lot of fun, and would be, if it worked as intended.

Balancing 'Champions'

There seems to be a huge variation in difficulty within enemies that are all labelled as ‘Champions’. Some seem around ten times tougher than others to defeat.

It would be nice to have some re-balancing of this area, so once again you could have some level of expectation regarding the difficulty of a battle by the indication of enemy’s label. Perhaps re-balancing the exceptionally easy and exceptionally hard champions is in order to bring them more in-line with their category? Or perhaps some of them should be upgraded or downgraded in the label?

The inconsistency at the moment is so great that the difficulty label is becoming largely meaningless.
Thanks.

I think it should be a little more balanced. Snow-Leopard form having both ‘stealth’ and ‘speed’ is very odd, and completely over-powered compared to the other three norn-forms.

It shouldn’t have both.

Just checked at the Bear’s Jaw Shrine in the Dredgehaunt Cliffs, and Shaman Lorna there speaks about ‘even a group of fighters would struggle against spirit bear’s strength’. From the way she talks it makes me think (e.g. lack of capitalisation of ‘bear’) this isn’t true ‘Bear’ as such. In addition the spirit that comes is simply named a ‘veteran bear spirit’. Bear herself would surely be immensely greater!

Yeah I actually did this map completion for the first time in a while yesterday and noticed it was only ‘Veteran Bear Spirit.’ Wish we could see the others!

Indeed! I was thinking about this a little more whilst wandering about the snowy mountains. A rare meta event where one of the spirits showed up somewhere in the mountains would be great. And they could be themed based on the spirit.

For example:

  • Wolf could have events tailored to working as a team (as opposed to working as individuals in a large group).
  • Bear could have some sort of meta event where value would be placed upon when to and when not to attack; one of the teachings of bear that many forget. After all, attacking all the time with rage and brute force is more akin with Minotaur, not Bear.
  • Raven could have cryptic events in some way that make you think, or the like.
  • And Snow Leopard, well her missions could be somewhat more covert or akin to her in some other manner.

Really I was just thinking off the top of my head (and it shows) but it would be nice to see some interaction with them, especially when we – as norn – head back into the Northern Shiverpeaks and take on Jormag. After all, some spirits died to enable us – the norn – to flee south with the aid of the remaining others. So I’m sure Wolf, Bear, Raven and Snow Leopard are just as keen as the rest of us to smite that ice-dragon nice and painfully.

In Dredgehaunt Cliffs, there’s a Bear shrine with an event where you can summon the Bear spirit in order to test your strength against it. That’s the only other one I’ve found so far.

That’s not actually Bear though is it? I always assumed it’s just one of… well her lesser spirits she sends when we call for a challenge there. After all, no norn would be able to face up to one of the spirits and best them, right? Additionally one would think Bear would be quite large! Though in saying that Minotaur (which you can see in your PS) isn’t particularly so, so perhaps that’s just a fallacy on my part.

I’ve always thought it is a shame we can’t see any others, though I guess there’s reasons for it, for at least a few. In Raven’s Lodge they talk about him flying high up above the clouds and seeing all, so I just assume that’s where he is, and why we can’t see him. It would be great if we could see him from time to time up in the sky though if we looked up, kind of like you see Jormag (or one of it’s Lt’s. in the Snowden Drifts etc).

Snow Leopard, well she’s so sneaky I just assumed none would never be as cunning or skillful as her and so never catch a glimpse as she stalks about. Don’t really know for Bear though, perhaps that is Bear that comes up in the cliffs? shrugs
