Confirmation for selling ascended stuff

It doesn’t matter what safeguards are in place, this will always happen to someone. Sadly hopefully you’ll learn from this experience for next time.

But I completely agree with above; Just take a little care and use an invisible bag (I use two) and you basically should never have this problem again. Finally, I’d also suggest not to sell items directly from your inventory window (if you do), rather, sell them using the vendor’s window. That way it’s practically impossible to sell something you don’t want to.

Why do things just for the reward? I know a lot of people have fallen into this trap, but I really believe we all need to seriously ask ourselves that question. There’s almost the entire game’s content you can enjoy without ascended equipment. I guess if you only want to play one particular part of the game, then yes you might have some problems. Just don’t try to limit yourself.

Personally, I think account name should be completely removed from the game. And others should only see our current character’s name. So I guess sort of the opposite of what you’re suggesting, but that’s what I’d like to see. It won’t ever happen, but that’s my ideal.

Players are not pulling their weight and breaking the bar. It doesn’t need to be adjusted just because players choose not to do one of the mechanics for it.

To be fair, I doubt very much if it’s failing because some players are choosing not to do one of the mechanics. I think it’s much more likely that they are unaware of just how important it is to break defiance quickly and/or how to contribute. (And yes, I think it’s a shame that this late since the change to defiance that people remain unaware of how it works.)

Regardless of the phrasing, I agree with the sentiment: the fact that people aren’t making use of the mechanics doesn’t mean that the fight should be re-scaled or otherwise adjusted. It’s clear that V-prime can be killed with very few people (and often that’s easier than killing with a ton of folks present).

Yes. I think this (what I’ve highlighted in bold above) is a general problem in Heart of Thorn’s content. Players can simply think it’s too hard, and don’t allocate the little time it takes educate themselves about defiance bars.

Mobs difficulty is fine I think. Heart of Thorns is still a challenge to some. I still encounter – and know of – players that find it too tough and won’t play the game because of it. It’s all relative really.

You cannot please everyone, and they take the middle ground these days. As such some players will think it’s too tough and some too easy.

I do understand in though; Sadly, gone are the days of MMOs that were overall a challenge. I guess that’s what happens when the industry becomes driven by revenue and not passion.

I’ve found the biggest problem with it is that players don’t know that this is one fight that’s basically impossible to best if you don’t break it’s defiance bar. Lots of new players to Heart of Thorns haven’t realised the importance of defiance bar breaking, but hopefully they will with time.

You actually CAN kill it without breaking it’s breakbar… I would not have believed it if I didn’t see it myself. I joined that particular fight 2-3 minutes late, so it may have been broken earlier in the fight, but while I was there we didn’t break a single bar and we killed it with less than a minute remaining. There were about 20-25 players.

One thing I did notice with that encounter was there were very few downed players; so everyone was doing a much better job at staying alive, the dead were WPing, and we were able to sustain our DPS.

TLDR; Yes, breaking the bar makes the kill quicker and with more margin of error, but if you adhere to good combat habits, it’s still possible.

Really? I’m not sure, I’m guessing it might have been broken before you go there like you suggested. Everyone’s always said it’s impossible in map, and I’ve believed such too from my experience. Multiple times I’ve seen attempts not get anywhere near beating it if it isn’t broken at least once. But if you break it once, the amount of bonus damage you do to it in those stunned seconds is amazing, almost akin to those Thornhearts in Dragon’s Stand.

Can anyone else attest to this; that it can be beaten if you don’t break it’s bar?

This also reminds me of the classic ‘we need more help’ cry for events; which ultimately often results in more players arriving – and in the case of Vinetooth Prime – that don’t particularly pay attention to the mechanics, in turn up-scaling the event even more and just making things worse.

The Matriarch in Verdant Brink is another example: It’s amazingly easy and fast to keep on the ground and beat with 3-5 players that know how and when to break it’s bar to stop it from flying off.

Yet another classic example of this is when one of the wings of Tarir is lagging behind the others; desperate, often unneeded, calls result in players coming just to ‘zerg the octovine’, but they hugely up-scaled it and the number of other enemies showing up and can make matters worse.

I was thinking that the Vinetooth Prime is a legendary enemy and as such should be difficult to best with few players. But that being said The Matriarch in Verdant Brink I just spoke about above is also a legendary enemy and it’s not so, so perhaps some alteration of the level of the base defiance bar is in order.

That being said, it is also nice to have some content that isn’t a forgone conclusion before the battle’s even begun.

Sure. I don’t understand why anyone would really care how anyone else plays/experiences the game. If we have the option to hide/view backpacks, enabling or disabling the feature won’t affect anyone else in the slightest. Other players won’t even know. To that end I can’t see a problem with having an option to hide backpacks or similar.

You don’t have to run with a blob. You can do stuff on your own or run around with a small group of people. Who knows, maybe you’ll even have fun doing that.

Silverwastes jumping puzzle is a lot of fun, sure it takes time, but it’s enjoyable and a journey and a real place you can explore with your guild and have a laugh doing so, with a nice achievement and humour at the end; re the dowsing rod, mini-quest. It’s not that hard, but long. I think it’s a good balance.

It would be nice if there were more in future. They’re a somewhat unique part of GW 2. The more banal the game becomes the more players won’t think twice about leaving for others etc.

Quite frankly, wanting something in compensation because someone else has made an honest mistake is disgusting. And that’s what this boils down to: you’ve been put out, you’re upset, and you want someone to give you something to make you feel better.

That being said, the first time I really fell in love with the look of the game was the first time my character ventured into the Snowden Drifts from the Wayfarer Foothills; the gentle snow-fall and snow-covered trees; I still remember that first time.

Finally there is the Silverwastes. This is primarily due to the music around Camp Resolve; it just does something to me. Simply and perfectly composed to capture the atmosphere.

This game is pay to win, Slightly.

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Reverielle.3972

Guild Wars 2 most definitely isn’t Pay-2-win. It is, however, Pay-2-progress, which is even worse.

The simple problem is that the amount of cash-grabs in this game is beyond ridiculous and people don’t even realize it. Most people I know actually spend more on GW2 than a subscription-based MMO because of this.

-When Anet added the transmogrification system, they added transmogrification stones. This isn’t such an obvious cash-grab, seeing as how these stones can be earned in-game without spending money, but they are rare enough that they push you to buy them with gems.

-Nearly all armor skins/costumes are released through the gem-store. This one makes me angry, simply because it completely breaks all immersion. No, you don’t go on a quest to get awesome-looking armor, no you don’t slay any enemies…. you simply have to buy your armor on the gemstore because none gets released in-game.

-Achievement points were locked behind armor skins attainable only through Black Lion Chests, which you have to pay gems for.

-Previous LS content being locked and then sold back to you for gems. What.

-The drop rate for rare skins/good items in Black Lion Chests is utterly abysmal… therefore causing you to buy more in order to get what you want.

…and many more that I’ve forgotten over the past few years.

I absolutely love this game, but the amount of cash-grabs that have been added has made me quit multiple times. It’s definitely not Pay-2-win, but if you want to get that new armor skin, new weapon, new anything, it’s going to cost you gems….

And yet I’ve not spent any real cash on any of those things. I must have 170 Transmutation Charges, a whole bank inventory slot of Black Lion Chests, acquired dozens of Black Lion Chest Keys in-game, received all the Living Story Episodes at no cost whatsoever, more than 1000 armor skins (I only know this because I have the Achievement), etc.

Perhaps, it’s just a matter of playing the game more consistently. Or patience. I’m not sure.

Not sure if I’ve ‘won’, but I’ve certainly not paid.

Just thank god you werent here at the start we had 1-79 stones that you got in game if you wanted to change look on 80 gear it was gemstore only.

I thanked anet for making the new stones when they did.

Spirits, I forgot about that! Yes, thank goodness it’s not still that way. There have been a lot of great improvements to the game since launch, that is certainly one of them!

any easy ways to 80

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Reverielle.3972

Reverielle.3972

If it’s your first character; the more game-time it takes to get to level 80 the better. This is because once your character’s 80 a lot of the lower tier (and most expensive) crafting materials are much much harder to come by.

Really, there is no short cut I think, one way or another you’ll be inhibiting yourself in one way.

So, do what you say; personally I level my characters up by enjoying their race-related zones and personal story, in a logical fashion. And I find that most enjoyable.

And eventually you’ll want to explore those zone anyways for you map completion, so you might as well do so at the appropriate level when the rewards (i.e. items to salvage) are the most profitable for you.

Pay 2 Win is paying for an advantage over others.

What you describe is Pay 2 Progress faster.

Progressing faster is winning…

Every MMO that has gold-sellers is pay to win then too. lol

This is just a dumb statement. i’m 100% sure i don’t need to explain why.

BY DEFINITION, any game where you can purchase in-game currency with Real Life money is “pay to win”. It’s actually why you aren’t able to purchase in-game currency with RL money in most MMOs and why there is such a healthy illegal Gold Selling business for games.

I agree, and i also would like to ad that because this does somewhat dis encourage gold sellers (not by much but it does) that this is a decent system. still a bit annoyed at times though.

Re your first statement: no, not really. If that was the case I’d stay at home, because that’s where I end up at the end of my holidays.

Experiences are the ‘reward’ and those can’t be brought.

I can’t see this game being pay to win in any way. Just because there’s a real-world to game-currency option doesn’t necessarily make something pay-to-win. I think the term is highly misunderstood and misused these days.

I don’t want them flagged as ‘junk’ — the game’s nomenclature is confusing enough without letting us redefine it.

Instead, I’d like to see it work more like the right-click on salvage kits:

  • Sell all junk
  • Sell all minor runes|sigils.
  • Sell all player-defined trash (which would be chosen in the [f11] panel’s list of options)

Something ‘we’ could flag, in the options somewhere or similar. Not something they do across the board.

Gw2 player burnout, PvE gold Grind

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Reverielle.3972

Reverielle.3972

See, I get gold, but I don’t grind gold. I enjoy making legendaries, so I do that. I make a legendary. I plan to keep one and sell one, to fund my habit. It’s not really that hard to do, it just takes a long time. But I’m okay with that.

If you want everything, you’re always going to have to farm gold. If you don’t want everything, or you’re happy taking your time, you don’t.

Gold farming is a choice.

I don’t farm gold. I get gold from doing fractals, when my friends run them. I get gold from doing Silverwastes, if I feel like it. I get gold from doing AB if I happen to be in the zone and it’s starting.

But most of the time I’m working on collections, banging around the world and just stopping to do stuff that’s happening around me.

I don’t make gold in the most efficient way possible. But I’m not burned out either.

Couldn’t agree more, this is very much me also.

Gold grind is a completely player driven phenomenon, and I suspect largely spilled over from the capitalist world. And many seem to not know how to turn off. Maybe I’m wrong, but that’s my observation, and it’s certainly gotten worse in mmos over the last 15 years or so.

Reverielle.3972

A lot of this is sadly just because we live on the other side of the world from the servers. Those of us in Oceania will never have low latency.

However, it would have been intelligent for Anet (and other developers) to keep this in mind when designing content. The ‘twitch’ style that has been the ‘flavour of the month’ for some years now in mmos really isn’t a happy marriage. It may work when your latency is <70 ms or so, but when it’s >300 ms, game components are nigh on unplayable.

Smart development would take this into account and code appropriate for it. A perfect example of the problems that arise when this is not done is Sanctum Sprint.

Another importan thing to add is a select box that helps you to go into worlds and maps populated by RPers. This is needed because megaservers nullified the RP servers.

Nowadays is way harder to found a map were people are randomly roleplaying… A select box to prioritize the RP preference would be amazing, IMO.

that would just be an empty map tho… unless its one of the city hubs

Not really. You’d be surprised how many players RP their character more immersively (e.g. if their character is doing something in-game, it’s in-character/RPing). There are many types of RP, not just the well-know “stand around in cities/bars and chat/emote types”.

I’d like to see a mastery added that would enable our characters to dive when gliding to pick up speed, allowing them to dive down to things without having to <spacebar> <spacebar> their way down, which at the moment both looks – and is mechanically – clumsy.

Perhaps diving could ‘fill’ a secondary bar under the endurance bar, sort of like a ‘momentum/speed’ bar that could then be depleted to climb/ascend back up into the air for a certain amount of time.
