They said a lot of things before release, I wouldn’t keep my hopes up.
I hope the armour/s become available, but yes, very true. One just has to look at the new ascended weaponry to see how far they’ve moved away from what they originally said before release. But it happens in basically all MMOs; just can’t really trust what is said by development.
Yes, I agree.
In fact I’d suggest Anet completely re-think the dungeon model, for at the moment they are exploited -so- badly, it’s a complete joke.
The Empyreal Fragments and Dragonite requirements alone turns this into quite a grind. Amazing feature for a game that was sold on the idea that there would not be grinds.
The longer it takes for Ascended armour to come out, the better, because they’ve drifted so far already from the model the advertised before launch.
Re above; Definitely. And more importantly was the mantra Anet touted stating that we could get equipment of comparable quality by playing the way we wanted to, not being forced into some other cookie-cutter mechanism of grinding, with daily limits etc etc. It’s so sad, and to think adults make these games. They really must just be in it for the ‘money’ not any desire to make a good/unique product. Oh the Banality…
Quite. I must say that the tower inside is well done.
It really felt dangerous and as such brought the community, at least the immediate community in the tower, together. And that, I think, it something sorely lacking in mmos these days; dangerous area where people have to work together.
Ack, that’s a shame.
On a side note I was hoping we’d be able to use it as an underwater mask, but alas, no luck.
Yeah, you’ll want more than 1 or 2 of you. 3’s a good number and can work, and you don’t have to be in a group, just stick together. However…
Hang about at the entrance area and watch/follow other players and their style. There’s two basic things to look out for: If they’re training past mobs, you definitely don’t want to hang about with them, but if they’re taking their time and killing most they come across, work with them and stay close for they’ll be good to follow/help.
Basic tip for survival; don’t rush. You don’t have to get to the top in one go.
The cutscene looked pretty, but it was hollow, as has all of the Living World updates since this all started. The story is gonna have to beef itself up a bit if ANet’s gonna continue to try to sell this novelty of a Living World to it’s players and actually keep them interested.
I actually enjoyed the final cut-scene, especially considering I’ve been away for 6 months. It was nice to see a catch-up, albeit a brief one.
Quality of content aside, of course the masses will be kept interested, after all they provide achievement points. And achievements are becoming more and more ‘quest-like’ every day, with the addition of being a fine tools for one player to say to the other ’I’m better than you’. It’s a bit disappointing…
MMOs these day: Working to drive communities apart rather than keep them together.
Regardless of armour-type; if you don’t dodge, you die. It’s basically that simple. Watching the enemy and getting out of the way when they look like they’re winding up for a big move is pretty paramount to survival.
Additionally, there will be times where you’re one-shotted and there’s zero you can do about it, it’s just the way the game’s made. Frustrating at times yes, but thankfully those situations are mostly when you should have others around you to help get you back up, mostly…
Oh how quickly Anet forgets about the newer players in the game…. Like usual, very disappointing.
They’re obsessed with balancing the economy I think. Why I don’t know, nothing they’ve done has stopped it in any way going the same way as every other MMO’s economy. They tried, I’ll give them that, and it’s great that they did. But changes like this do more harm than good. e.g. once again hurting the newer player, how very sad.
It will just take 5-6 hours of play (regardless of the game mode played – either PvE or WvW) to get a full stack of Silk to a “new” lv80 player, so this change will not affect anything at all.
Sorry? Your maths is extremely flawed there, but I’ll say no more.

I must admit, clear-target would be very handy.
And also and option to negate the new targeting system back to a more default one would be nice. I can understand it’s place, but many times targeting the strongest creature and taking them down first is not the best way to go about things.
Yeah, it’s no longer play the way you want like the game was touted to be in the beginning. That lasted….
On other matters: I harvest from a pine sapling and garner some hardwood? laughs Who in development allowed that to get in-game?
The material requirements for ascended items are pathetic. It really needs to be addressed. I mean, I love many aspects of the game, and I enjoy a bit of equipment progression, but this is just a joke. I’m sure the developers are having a laugh. I mean I hope they are, because if they’re dead serious I feel very sorry for their long-term vision.
When one looks back to the promotions of the games and the mantra they development team said in relation to equipment obtainment… If it was in any other business area/company you could see court action.
The real issue is that there are items that require over 250 of an item to make. That just shouldn’t happen in a non-grindy game.
Cannot agree more.
Just reduce the materials requirements for many crafted items will go a long way to fixing this problem, and it will also have the added benefit of making the world and players more enjoyable to be around rather than this ‘train/kill/rush rush/obsession that’s going on. It’s quite sad.
thats pretty sweet man. even if i had no idea what guild wars was i would still dig it
Yep I agree. I think that’s a sign of a good design, and a smart usage of that design if you – as you obviously were – looking for a GW2 related tattoo to use.
Very nice! I like the style.
Rev’s spent a lot of time in Raven’s Lodge of late, mainly listening and learning from Moda. As such she’s lost a fair bit of pigment in her skin and her hair’s grown. This is her latest look; in the same old cultural armour, but with some different colour styles.
Hmm, if the ‘scales’ on the male medium Armour don’t reflect light like the female version (like they appear not to on your screenshot) that’s something that should be fixed I think. Other than that , the male medium armour as a whole though I think is the best looking norn cultural armour in the game at the moment.
I guess, but I still think the player makes the class good, not the other way around. All classes I think have certain areas where they’ve very strong. Have a look at the way a thief can stealth in and out of combat so very often, for example.
Some good thieves/mesmers/rangers seems to cut up Guardians very well, all depends upon who’s at the keyboard pressing the buttons.
… The game is fun from a general sense, but we get zero rewards for having fun. Just my humble opinion….
A sad, sad GW1 Player
Wait a minute.
When all is said and done, isn’t having fun far and away the most important aspect in playing a game? If not for fun why play it?
The purpose behind fees in a game like this is to remove money out of the economy. Without money sinks prices would be going up faster than they already are.
Yes.
The problem in MMOs is the continual increase in overall coin that is in circulation over-time, which results in inflation. They need to combat such things as best they can.
Personally I like that many zones are quieter now. You can take your time and listen to the little event stories taking place at your own pace, all the time not worrying about a ‘zerg’ coming through.
On the other hand I can understand why asymmetric player distribution across zones to some a concern.
Yes, unless you’re building specifically for crit, I would suggest prioritizing power as well. What additionally supports this is the fact that you can’t crit against inanimate objects like catapults, etc etc. So your damage will be significantly reduced against such things, which can be a quite annoying in some situations.
On the other hand crit can be quite useful if you compliment it with %-chance-heal-on-crit food.
Oh and it’s ‘newb’ not ‘noob’, unless you’re knowingly insulting yourself. We were all newbs once, but only the bigoted and ignorant are noobs, and no one wants to be those
.

I suggest the forum moderators should;
a) Increase their understanding of when a post is actually on or off topic,
b) Not delete a topic seemingly just because it critiques something in game in a negative way.
Perhaps the term constructive criticism should be endeavoured to be understood? I don’t understand why as soon as one posts something even remotely critical of a function/event, it gets deleted with a ‘it was off topic’ automated response. This needs to be improved. What are forums for if not for freedom of speech and voicing one’s opinion? We should have just as much right to voice a concern we have about the game. Very disappointing Anet, this is something that should be looked at.
This is a severe bug. I just spoke to Knut (and Eir disapeared before I could speak to her) and there are no waypoints anywhere in the entire world that I can use to leave the instance.
I guess this might be a function of people becoming too dependent upon waypoints for getting about.
Don’t look for a waypoint when in Knut’s loft. Just go back to the door you came in through and open it (F key).
I have a few suggestions that hopefully might help you get through it, if you’re still struggling you are welcome to contact me in-game and we’ll do them together.
When in the Nolan Hatchery solo there’s only one or two times (when taking down the sonic emitters) that you will likely face more than three mobs at once. The rest of the time it’s twos and threes. Remember that you’re in fact not alone though, Rox is with you and she’s more than able to take the hits from one or two enemies whilst you dispatch the others. Additionally, Rox is a Ranger, so look out for her healing spring when she uses it and stand within that, naturally the regeneration as well as condition removal it provides is very handy.
Single-pulling mobs is not a mechanic you should even think about using in this game. This is something to be thankful for, as it makes for horridly boring combat. It’s pretty passe. Every class has the ability to dodge (arguably the most important single-skill we have in the game). Use it and otherwise keep mobile if you can/need be, it helps a great deal.
I would also suggest that, if you haven’t already, you look at your equipment and make sure it’s relatively up-to-date for you level, anything more than 5 levels below your character’s current and I’d highly recommend upgrading. Of this varies with the quality of the actual items, but for the most part mastercrafted and even some rare quality items are available very cheap on the Black Lion Trader. I’d pay special attention to your jewellery, as in my experience they seem to be the items that tend to be forgotten about, as opposed to the more ‘visual’ armour and weaponry.
Other than that I would suggest not ‘worrying’ in combat too much. GW2’s mechanics is quite different from other MMOs and it does take a bit to get use to. For instance, our #1 attack skill/s provide more than enough damage to take down most enemies adequately. To that end so use your other ones (as well as your utilities) wisely; their true value I feel is not in the damage they do but more so in their additional effects, e.g. combos, condition removal, snaring, etc etc. Oh, and don’t forget those ‘blast’ and ‘leap’ combo finishers for when Rox has her healing spring down. 1000-2000 healing (depending upon stats) is quite handy.
Hope this helps somewhat. I will be interested to hear how you get on.
Sounds interesting.
Personally I’d like to see the social aspect of group combat improved greatly via improving and fixing the combo system. It has a lot of potential, but unfortunate inconsistencies with it, not to mention seemingly common bugs, make it something that seems hardly worked on. Players should be rewards significantly more for taking the time to work out combos with each-other in battle situations.

I think the difficulty is fine. One has to remember that this content is available for only a limited time and is something that Anet wants everyone to experience/enjoy, not just experienced level 80’s with complete exotic gear.
Dodge button, you have one.
Yes, dodge.
We’ve all got a dodge skill, which in itself goes a long way to highlighting just how important it is.
I actually ran that cutscene multiple times in order to screencap her responses so I could read them later at my leisure. The fact that I had to do it at least three times is ridiculous though, girl needs to slow down.
Thanks for the caps.
I’ve got to say, Eir’s dialogue seems off. What self-respecting norn tries to talk their grown child out of a chance to earn glory?
It’s not so much a chance to earn glory. In relation to what’s been happening up north and the reports returned – which Eir talks about – it’s very likely it’s seen as a suicide mission.
Agreed, new cut-scenes are good. However I still believe there’s a time and place in-game for both styles though, the old and the news
Well it’s totally up to us whether we do all the content as soon/fast as we can, or whether we take our time. We also know that each living story event is going to be around for a lot longer than in the past, so we’ve certainly no need to rush them.
Personally, I think you went through it far too fast and should have enjoyed the journey a bit more.
I’m really enjoying the living story this time round. But yes, I agree also that one certainly doesn’t need the box there all the time.
The trinity doesn’t need to be fixed/altered. I think combos can somewhat fill that niche in a certain way.
Combos need to be significantly de-bugged and improved so they provide consistent, social and reliable effects that clearly reward working together in a group (oh the bugs currently with them!). They are a wonderful idea in game, but they feel like they’re still in a beta phase at the moment.
I really like the dye styles of most above. I’m particularly partial to your blue tones, Sirius, as you’ll see reflected in my third image, that’s how my character is currently. However I really enjoyed the looks of the other two images too (1st & 2nd), which are of previous styles.
(edited by Reverielle.3972)
Oh, these are great. Well done all!
scurries off to look for a rendering of her own
Unfortunately, the female boots, shoulders and gloves only have two dye options. I thought that a little sad. Otherwise though, I don’t mind either. It would be nice if the females was a little more covering though.
I love how everyone thinks that by taking away the damage, the weapon would become useless.
lol
Clearly this just goes to show the general mentality of MMO players: more damage = better.
As to those of us who realize what the block would be…
Yes, having it channeled and effect “everyone” (up to 5) within it would definatly be overpowered, which is why the block bug was fixed. But to limit it to 1-2 players would not be OP.
We need more “Active” Defense abilities tied to our weapon and the mace is a perfect canadate for this due to it’s “support” features.
As it stands, Protectors Strike really is only for damage because the 5s of “Protection” isn’t that great (even with 80% boon duration) and more often than not it’s blocked rather than let run out.
And yes, I know ~EXCATLY~ the kind of damage the mace can put out… and it’s good.
Yep, this is great. Sums up my thoughts almost exactly, especially the ‘active defense’ comment.
This is a very handy guide. Just a couple of points regarding sword use:
Sword is a very handy weapon to use indeed. However, it should probably be noted that Zealot’s Defense (Sword skill #3) is horrendously bad at hitting any target that’s moving, be it NPC or player. Also, I might just add that it’s a little misleading to say it ‘hits hard’ as when you do the math, the difference in dps between it and the swords ‘auto-attack’ (skill #1) is nothing. It’s true worth lies with it’s 3 second ranged block effect and the fact that it’s a shot-range ranged attack in itself.
Ye and in GW1 it was same… You changed 8 skills and split 200 attribute points which everything was matter of 1 min maybe 2 min. But you had to be in town. And ye it is about laziness but i know alot of players that have 3 pvp character of same profesion, so they don’t have to set it up all the time, when they do 3 round tournaments.
And sure if you retrait once a month then i guess it is no problem. But if you want another build for each dungeon, map in pvp then it is annoying and time consuming. And switching weapons and stuff…
I do know what you’re saying, and really you have weight to your argument if you think along the lines of what Anet touted profusely before the game launched: Which was along the lines of spending more time playing and enjoying the game rather than time ‘wasted’ travelling, grinding, <insert any number of mundane tasks here>, etc etc. So you certainly have something to back up your suggestion
I’m all for this too.
From what I understand – and I’ve only heard this from another player – Anet has some fundamental problems with the Black Lion Trader. Once they’ve fixed it up, they’ll see to adding a lot more items there, including clothing! fingers crossed
dailies take no more then 60 min done very slowly (they can easily be done in 15-20 min), that gives you a built in grace period of 23 hours already.
Pretty much this I agree with.
Additionally there’s absolutely no reason whey anyone ‘needs’ to complete the dailies. Laurels are nice, sure, but they’re not needed to gain items that are absolutely needed to complete any content in the game, they’re just another avenue.
Just because something’s ‘the best’ doesn’t mean it’s suddenly ‘needed’.
I think that would be nice to have… to be able to inspect other characters armor that they’re wearing. For instance, you see someone in Lions Arch and you think, “Man, that armor is cool… I wonder what it is…” I think it’d be cool to be able to see what it is
Then you ask them and they link the armour/items to you if they want to you know. I know what you’re saying with the inspect option, but there’s enough Elitist BS that goes on in this game already, such a mechanic would only significantly add to the situation.
Exploiting is exploiting ‘DeathPanel’. Justify it however you like, but it doesn’t change the fact. And no one should feel bad about leaving any group when it’s exploiting content.
And the OP has one or two good points, but that’s among a lot of elitist junk. Seriously? Telling others how they should and should not play is just being a bigot and pathetic. What’s worse is starting a post like this as if in some way this is the common-held belief. No wonder people leave this game when they have such a horrible experience with other players.
You need to ask yourself: Am I being a positive or negative influence on the community with such actions.
(edited by Reverielle.3972)
… err. did someone google “greatsword vs hammer Gw2” or did someone go waaaaaay back in the dead-topics-archives?
Or maybe someone decided to continue this one instead of making their own new post on the same/similar topic?
I find relatively the hammer graphic looks clumsy an functionally isn’t as robust as the greatswords, so I use the latter. Others I adventure with love it too, especially Binding Blades for grouping enemies (PvE) over ground effects. Very handy. There’s various other reasons too, but they’ve already been stated so I’ll not repeat.
I agree.
Oh, and Ravion, your link didn’t work.
