This shouldnt need to be said, but anet are the kings of removing great features and have already removed the leaderboards in the past because….
Honestly this game has finally got some competition in it for the first time in forever. It means that for the first time in 2 years there is now something to compete at with gw2.
For the last two years all we have had is a few esports tournaments for people whose lives are flexible enough to be based around the game. There has no way for solo players to prove themselves.
When solo queue started, i noticed a huge skill gap between the top esl players and the rest. This gap is rapidly closing as there is now a source of regular high level competition for the solo hero. So these people have already improved drastically, and as many are more talented than the esl players they will likely surpass them soon.
So this solo queue system has saved the game. With this foundation you could actually get a vibrant esports scene now. There will be a proving ground for new players. A place for people to scout and recruit new talent for their teams, and a way for people to improve against other high rated players. For too long organised scrims has been the only decent competition to let people improve. Fortunately that is now over, and other players can get this competition to allow them to improve.
The solo system also creates a competitive community that will be the bedrock of any pvp viewing audience.
You have to keep the visible mmr, the leaderboards and the solo queue system. Otherwise this game will die once and for all. It cannot take another failure of a system. This system must be improved but kept in tact.
Only thing that needs doing is it should be solo queue only. Or duo queue needs to give greater penalties for a loss.
If the results are in it should be buffed

It can take 5-10k incoming damage to cast next skill if theyre all slow and youre have go through a blind, block, rupt and possible a random doge. Necro gameplay was always closer to fortune telling rather than being reactive- No self healing
I dont want to be a 1v2 scrapper bunker in marauder, i just want enemy to commit to my +1 like they have to on others. with zero healing you cannot comeback or kite 1v1 against a worse player.- Clunky slow casts and power specs
Again, i dont mind losing any stupid proc passives if it turns the likes of greatsword jokes into an alround functional set like D/P thief.
(cast and aftercasts, LOS & Facing requirements, complex buggy tracking and bouncing over simple aoe effects, projectile hate is too common, etc.)Just a consistent standardized improvement nr(1) would help a lot by itself, then you see how many get out of jail cards we need. And the clunk removal is more functionality fix rather buff – it was great when necro had power and condi spec viable at same time, yet none were top S-tier-

I’d rather Necro not have more sustain, but other classes have less.
Some classes have absurd sustain from skills and traits. Warrior’s Adrenal Health trait, for example, is much better than most classes’ heals in the same time period. It also gets double invuln and like 20s of resistance on a pretty short cd. DH gets tons of long lasting blocks. Scrapper gets skills that defend while attacking, etc.
Here’s what I’d do:
- remove auto-proc-on-cc traits like Last Stand, Hunter’s Determination, etc. Defense should be active, not passive.
- reconsider the duration of blocks, reflects, invulns, resistance, especially if they allow the user to attack at the same time. 5 seconds is a long time in pvp. 20 seconds is basically an entire fight.
- see if it’s possible to bring HoT specs in line with pre-HoT levels of sustain.
- Necro pvp main. 1800

Buffing necro sustain is just going to make DH v2.0 (Remember season 1-2 when DH were “trash”, then the buffed sustain and are now the most played and easiest class at all levels).
Necro currently is a “semi-glass cannon.” If you position well and play defensively, you can just melt the other team, or take out at least a couple of people before you die. If you position poorly and get properly focused, you melt. The damage to survivability ratio is pretty even. I mean, as a necro, you ARE going to die (unless you play that disgusting bunker necro build that takes forever to whittle away at). Accept it. The point isn’t to never die, its to do enough damage to the other team that they are worse off than yours when you DO go down.
Most of these sustain buffs make it possible to spec for sustain whilst giving up damage. A spec running unholy santuary will not be doing the same damage as now. Same for wells, same for unholy martyr, same for sihpons.
For reference: My rating is 1890, I solo queue only.
Necro needs more sustain. It is terrible.
There are ways you can add sustain to the necromancer which should have been done long ago. Here are some suggestions:
0, Necros should start a pvp game with 30% death shroud (this one is important)
1, Consume conditions needs a shorter cast time. In a world of spammable instant cast interrupts, a 1.25s cast time is not fair.
Suggestion: Reduce cast time of consume conditions to 0.75s
2, Consume conditions needs a shorter cool down. The nerf to this from 25s to 30s was hated at the time and was never undone. Nobody will take master of corruption because it sucks. If you are worried about this then just nerf that trait which nobody will ever take.
Suggestion: Reduce cool down of consume conditions back to its 25s.
3, Base necromancer death shroud needs significant buffs to put it as a viable choice when compared to repear shroud. This has long been discussed on the necromancer forums.
Suggestions: Add 3 stacks of stability to tainted shackles.
Add poison to each pulse of Death shroud 4
Death shroud 3 should also apply 1 stack of buring
Death shroud 2 should have its cool down reduced to 12 seconds from 15 seconds to be more in line with repear shroud 2.
With all these things, necro death shroud will still be worse than repear shroud. But at least it narrows the gap and lets people play with more builds.
4, The soul comprehension trait needs to have an additional effect to help sustain.
Suggestion: You gain 10s protection when critically hit (cooldown 20 seconds). Everyone else gets perma protection so why not necros?
5, Unholy santuary and unholy martyr need to be useful.
Suggestion: Unholy martyr nerf removed and it now grants 10% life force
Unholy sanctuary needs to have the healing it provides double from 130/s to 260/s.
6, Focus off hand should be a survival weapon. Nobody has used this in 4 years of pvp basically, which is a complete failing of the balance.
Suggestion: Make one of the focus skills an invuln, similar to ele earth focus.
7, Life siphoning sucks. The healing amount is just pathetic.
Suggestion: Increase all life siphoning healing by at least 50%. If you want to move slowly then keep moving it up over time by 25%. I doubt 50% will make it good, but it would help weak builds.
8, Death magic and blood magic trait lines suck
Suggestion: These lines need some very powerful sustain traits in them. There is no reason transfusion should be a grandmaster for example.
9, Plague form is too weak to conditions. This was fine in the past, but with the power increases of all specs, conditions are EVERYWHERE.
Suggestion: Plague form should also cure 1 condition each time it pulses.
10, Well of blood is too weak. There needs to be some condition clear on this
Suggestion: Add condition clear. It should also be a water field.
11, The well grandmaster trait is too weak. The life siphon sucks, the recharge reduce is average and the 3s protection is pathetic in a world where perma protection is a thing.
Suggestion: Add condition removal to this trait. Wells should also remove 2 conditions on the necromancer when they are cast. This would help well of blood too.
No class should need to follow a tempest around to be effective. None of these changes add to anything in a meta spec really. In fact most of these changes will just open up build diversity.

That argument only holds if correlation proves causation which it doesn’t.
Yeh but there is logic behind it. When solo queue was around it was a proving ground for people. Many solo players looked at players in teams and knew they were better or as good. So they went and proved it in solo queue. And it was factually proven who was the best by who had the best mmr and was highest on the leaderboards.
These players could then move into teams if they wished.
Since the removal of solo queue there is no way for proving yourself or for practising your individual skills. Duelling is the only thing left but this is match up dependent and duelling is only a tiny part of being a good pvper, awareness is everything.
So when solo queue came out, for those initial 3 months i knew i was either the best player in the game or very close to it. I proved that in solo queue. Lets say there is someone around now who believes the same. How can they prove themselves? There is no way.
If your aim is to win competitively then i think it is a mistake to try and spec for 1v1 as a necro. The strength of necro in pvp and wvw has always been its team fight capability. And the best way you can make plays as a necro is in those team fights.
Necro is too slow to be a 1v1 class in pvp. You will get decapped alot and you will not be able to push far to take 1v1s because any class that does this needs to be able to disengage when its 1v2. It is similar in wvw. In a cage fight 1v1 obviously necro is f7ne. But duels never happen in real games. You need to always be aware your duel could turn into a 1v2, as such any necro pushing far in pvp to take a 1v1 duel is never going to win many games
as such, if playing necro i would play it where it flourishes and that has always been in team fighting

You should listen to me as i had the highest mmr in the game as a solo player, so i was factually the best solo player. And even i grew to hate the game.
Yeah, most important and entertaining GW2 streamer decides to not stream anymore, totally not a big deal. Once Leeto decides to quit aswell you can go and enjoy your boring and monotonous family friendly streamers.

Helseth was never good enough to carry solo queue when real solo queue came out. He never was good enough to get ranked high enough on a consistent basis. So I wouldn’t listen or care what he thinks.

When I bought HoT I did so with the expectation that Mesmer would ( finally ) be competitive. Nothing would please me better than to see a well balanced GW2.

Mesmer is one of the few classes that has been fairly often present in the best comps in the game. If you struggled on mesmer ever its a l2p issue

Lame bunker meta is lame. People will be running marauder and the new power prec vit toughness ammy in the next one, which isn’t even that glassy.
I will probably continue playing rabid/wanderers engi, which means all these thieves will be 1v2d anyway. They are after all one of the few classes with clear counterplay to their cleanses.

I think everyone likes the redisign of a stupid 100% immunity.
While I am very concerned that 1 cleanse / 1 sec is pretty tough, I know it can easily be tweaked to once every /2 or /3 sec, like most perme cleanse traits.
It would also be same stupid choice to require a signet of skill from necro to land, as that basically means its same once every minute u get a window of opportunity.

New maps were asked for and we were told sure, but they seemed to have been abandoned or became stronghold instead. I still remember seeing them in development – for a while you could see them on the map in Heart of the Mists, just like you can see the other PvP maps there.
I’m not against the idea of ANet working on Spirit Watch to make it a good choice, either in conquest or as its own game mode. The issue with having it in ESL or ranked is that its map mechanic is too different from the other maps that it would affect your comp. This can be argued over because teams change comps between matches on Legacy, Forest, Temple and Khylo already, I suppose, but even so, it still needs working on. ESL removed Temple while it had an bug, even though it was avoidable by standing closer to the buffs when channeling.
I would have preferred Spirit Watch reworking into a capture the flag mode, or just a new map for that type of mode, instead of Stronghold with its PvE/NPC-reliant element. I detest Stronghold, and whether you like it or not, it is not ESL material, and the majority of the PvP playerbase (from my understanding) prefer Conquest, and of them only those looking to get quick pips or dailies will consider Stronghold.

Flip a coin 1000 times and you will get stretches where it comes heads 10 in a row and tails 10 in a row. Simple statistics. So losing 4 games in a row or something….its just variance.

Then deathmatch should be 3v3s. It needs to be balanced around elites. So it could be a ticket based system. It could be a single control area and a 10 minute fights. With a concede mechanic. It needs to be not so the best elite wins…….it needs to be based on average performance over 10 minutes of builds.
All of this needs to be thought out and designed appropriately by a design team. Courtyard was not designed. it was thrown together and put out carelessly.
As said before, a 2v2/3v3 ( not sure about 3v3 ) would be nice to play and see.
Btw at first i disliked too the “contest the point” mechanics, but then ( due to gw2 spvp and time to play ) i liked em. it seems they are meant to separate players ( actually is kinda hard due to mesmer portal, sometimes ).
Conquest is fine as one of many game modes. Or with meaningful secondary mechanics. Which they tried to add and then all the try-hards QQed about it. Whats the point in a game if its not even fun? How hard would if be to make spirit watch into a competitive map? Why waste time to develop it, do 95% of the work on BOTH STRONGHOLD and SPIRIT WATCH —-- and then give up right at the finish line and dont make the final touches?

Lol no, OP. Both maps are awful compared to conquest. The “esports” people tried to help, but gave up when their comments fell on deaf ears.
Spirit watch’s cap point structure, particularly the middle point, is awful. Lots of open terrain and the middle point can’t see anything on the map while being reasonably near the point. The orb mechanic is terrible – instead of shaking up the map or helping the team which has less nodes, it just helps the team with more nodes gain a larger advantage. And the orb running is hugely inconsistent – you can’t teleport, but you can charge or superspeed with it over an equal distance. Anything tanky with movement increases excels at it to the point where it’s almost unstoppable.
Stronghold had major issues since it’s first live server beta test. Archers being useless was a common complaint through every beta test of Stronghold. Most of those issues were not addressed.
So no, esports didn’t hijack this game.
Actually that is the point. They did hijack it because all the esports lamers have skype convos with the devs and convinced them to stick with the same boring kitten….aka conquest.
There are issues with spirit watch and with stronghold. But if they supported them they could easily fix these issues. It would really not be hard at all.
The 95% of people who didn’t to play 5k games of legacy of the foefire quit. The 5% left now influence development. They enjoy legacy even after their 5k games. So we will never get the 95% back. EVER.
All because they are afraid to lose and afraid of anything new. Its embarrassing really.
I cant believe HOT only just came out and anet completely gave up on tweaking stronghold. How crazy is that? It is remarkable really. Its like they didnt want it to succeed in the first place. Which of course they didnt. Which is really sad. And immoral.

Stronghold was added in an unfinished form. With no creativity. No thought to how it would work. And then not supported at all. So it obviously sucks. The reason for this is:
1, The esports lamers told anet not to support it
2, Anet wanted it to fail so they could say “I told you so”. Some people at anet obviously didnt want to put work into it because they wanted it to fail

The build system is so streamlined it will take 5 minutes to work out every build on every class. Really. Its not complicated.
Why did you bother introducing stronghold if you give it no support at all?
Why did you make spirit watch and not support it at all? Not balance the orb running. Not put it in your ranked arena. Not put it in your tournaments?
The reason is because there is like 20-30 dudes who are afraid to lose on anything new. So they cry about anything that is introduced and we are stuck with 5v5 conquest on legacy for the 7000th year. Because apparently that is the only real way skill is shown right? Playing a bunker and knowing the jump spots on legacy = skill, amirite?
Honestly. Stronghold is better than conquest. Spirit watch is the best conquest map because it is varied. There are more ways to win than sitting on points with bunkers.
I feel sorry for the devs who put a ton of hard work into these new maps. They are fun but have issues due to not being supported. I have no idea why a tiny minority of players who apparently are in love with forest of nifrel are able to massively influence this games development.
No wonder players are being driven away from this game. I got bored on conquest on legacy about 18 months ago.

I don’t think it’s a buff, I don’t think it’s a nerf: I think it’s a fix. That being said, I’m no chornomancer, I can’t predict the future. I think it will still be very potent: 1 condi removed every second, if you don’t tank too much attacks, will save you from a lot of things above 75% health.
On the other hand, some builds that couldn’t even touch eles before will at least have a chance now. I think of every build that applies condis in bursts (condi necro is the more viable, but condi engineer would be another example). They will now be able to put 5-6 conditions on the elementalist instantly, and it will take 5-6s for the ele to fully recover, and force him to kite, opening a window of opportunity. We’ll see how it plays.
Not really. He has other condi cleanses. Other healing. He can dodge, kite, etc etc. Its a beyond amazing trait. The best trait in the game

So I bought GW2 at launch and played it for like 2 days before putting it down. To be honest, the only reason why I put the game down was because I was already running a guild in SW:TOR and was fairly committed to that game. However, I recently picked GW2 back up after bouncing back and fourth from WoW and SW:TOR. I have to commend the dev team over hear at areananet. I am absolutely loving this game, I play strictly PVP and have been a pvp player in ever mmo that I have played.
The thing that bugs me is today’s generation of spoiled MMO gamers. Coming from a pvp perspective, GW2 offers gamers one of the best PvP experiences you can get in an MMO. Yet, when I come to the forums for tips and whatnot, all i see is moaning and complaining. And most of the complaints are not even valid.
I understand that the forums if a place where people come to give suggestions and ideas about how to make the game better. But, the truth here is that every time
I come to the forums I feel like I’m wasting my time playing some trash mmo. At least that is how GW2 forum community makes it seem. Thats the end of my little rant, I just wish people would be a little more accepting of the game that the developers have created, BECAUSE IT IS AWESOME!
The problem is the game was better 6 months after launch than now. We used to have i game tournaments, the ability to queue from anywhere, leaderboards, solo queue, skill based game play and no power creep passives.
So you really cant judge having just arrived. People are mad at the live team for making the game worse.
This really isnt relevent to 99% of the player base.
But when solo queue was around with mmr leaderboards it meant every game had 10 elite players in it, or close to that.
I have heard reports that now it just matches in the basis of division. So those 100 guys who are the best in the game will not only play each other anymore, but instead be forced into matches with legends who are just bad.
Is there any solution to this or is ranked play just dead in terms of a way to play vs properly good people? If so then you will never get a good esports scene as there is nowhere for newer players to practice and even to prove themselves

Ten condis every 10 seconds is balanced? They wont drop below 75% unless stupid. Either way the new ds is exceptional. Probably the best trait in the entire game. No immob, no nothing. Guard turns up and would put a few burn on them? Np it wont work. Its so op
Why a condi every second? That is literally insane. And over 75% health will be easy to maintain for a class with perma prot, regen, vigor and a ton of healing.

Mesmers are really really broken. When something is that broken it needs significant changes. I have never seen such an overpowered spec. So all the changes are needed. If it then needs help then fine. I suspect it won’t need help though. I suspect it will still be too good. They have given mesmer too much distortion, blocks and invuln over time.
Well if abjured think the current balance can help them win some monies then I doubt arenanet are going to make any changes! Just like celestial, if they are happy with it then anet are happy too!
You could always wait until they release the new PvP leagues. Then you and your buddies could premade vs people absolutely new to the game and feel good about yourselves until you hit the high MMR bracket again and get destroyed.

Well I watched nemesis’ last video. He is almost certainly correct. Necro condi pve damage is massively underrated by the community because of dps up time.
He is correct. Its obvious. And it does hurt the community because it ruins people’s fun whilst playing the game.
I have no interest in coming back to this game and playing PvP in high mmr games when I have not played a lot for 18 months. Same for my friends.
So did they reset MMR or did they introduce permenent mmr decay?
Or did they not do any of this and kill any chance of anyone coming back to this game for pvp.
