yeah, i remember that first bwe ….with the bunnies and racoons with tequatl stats rofl!
yeah, i’m good on the betas thanks, i’ll wait lol

i didn’t buy the pre-purchase. lol
I’m not angry, i’ve been in the beta when gw2 first came out, i’m really ok with other people sorting out all the bugs first should i ever decide to purchase in a future sale. heck, i wish they would have held private betas for all these new changes that just tanked the game.
whats clear….. you pay, you are in beta, there’s a beta, you can’t get in. Darn that fine print!! lol
i don’t want to say it’s funny to me because i see a pull my finger scenario for the white knights that were saying how happy and supportive they were while dissing vets with the entitlement argument, only to get thrown under a bus with fine print and get a first hand lesson in what we were talking about,…that would be uncivil ….i’m trying to be compassionate of all sides.

that would be nicer to hear than some announcement saying "we are holding a stress test that you thought you paid for …bwahahahaha! "
whether they meant it that way or not really doesn’t matter…..I learned this the hard way, public speaking can be tricky!
public speaking is like speaking to that one argumentative friend that is always like "So what you are trying to tell me is…..-insert worst possible case scenario here- "

great, so now players have to read between the lines. this does nothing for rebuilding trust.

and I’ll say it again, the problem isn’t the price, the problem is how you are treating us with such disregard.
If the problem was the price, the people would be screaming bloody murder for a legendary costing almost as much as the game, heck way more than the game since it was down to 10 bucks and now free. lol

not me, i’m actually trying to help. This is truly a pr mess, and the distrust is only deepening by talking at us and not to us. It’s not me, it’s just a game to me, but the gamers are my people, we zerg together…i know them. I am simply channeling the angry spirits into one voice and trying to explain it as reasonably as i can. but the spirits are angry. I myself am not angry, more sad and trying to help really, i always said i like guildwars, arenanet and it’s community very much, would like to see them both happy. both…not 1 side…but both.

no, i get it. You guys are seriously disconnected from your community.
1 guy gets thousands of views …. 1 other guy posts to several forums that have several hundred thousand gamers you are trying to appeal to, with several let’s play gamers that gets millions of views combined.
we actually have the power to discredit someone for making a false review.
we the people…..

nice presentation, i truly felt the emotion, just one slight flaw.
We actually are the paying customers they are trying to interest…maybe ?
I’m thinking the proper name would be – s?hei
there was a time that anet did a ton of research to parallel real life lore.
S?hei (?? literally “monk warriors”;?, fighting monks1) were Buddhist warrior monks of feudal Japan.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/S%C5%8Dhei
or
Yamabushi (???) (one who lies in the mountains)1 are Japanese mountain ascetic hermits1 with a long tradition, endowed with supernatural powers in traditional Japanese mysticism.

The brand of Dragonhunter, well….it’s just cliche’, it shows commercialism and a plea to the stereotypical pop culture that some accountant turned game designer came up with, it just shows that it’s someone that really doesn’t understand how much gamers appreciate every detail of every little thing, which is what made gw1 special. Those details matter. well they mattered to me, I use to be fascinated when I’d cross reference the lore from guildwars 1.
just another sign that guildwars 2 is losing it’s soul -sad sigh-

agreed, why should anyone that paid good money for a prepurchase, to be a part of the game developing, have any advantages ?! vets already know the game….let someone new play!!
ima have to flip gears on this one lol -
anet is my favorite developers, i love their art, i love their ideas ….I don’t think it’s fair to judge something because people wanted to rush through it, I had fun with all the events and skins
so i’m going -1 on the content amount claimed by gamers
we have the best developers and artists in the business …I’ll stand whole heartedly by that.
what i’m not standing by are the decisions and choices they are making that are changing the game and pretty much leaving behind the strategy that sold them 6 million copies to begin with.
their content is great, and I respect that they take all of it from story to sound track and scripting very serious, so i don’t think it’s cool to criticize that, especially when they didn’t charge you for it, nor did they force gem sales. – so lets keep things in perspective in hopes of getting real solutions that everyone can live with :p

why did they make an internal qa beta test a public announcement ?
what business is it of mine that they are having a stress test that i can’t be a part of ?
None, it’s none of my business, it’s none of your business. It’s marketing hype.
so what happens next, bloggers and reviewers get in, make videos that are designed to make people drool and on edge for the next 3-5 months. This was cleverly (lol ) designed to get more prepurchasers to participate in future betas.
Elementary my dear quaggan!
now we just need to see which review is the most white knightiest to see which reviewer was the most compensated!
and the plot thickens, even scarlet is on the edge of her seat eating popcorn for this one! ^.^

now i have to ask, why make a public announcement if this is only relevant to a select few ?

is it just me, or does 666 damage happen a lot ?
i think what rubs me the most about tequatl – is that it became like a nice place to meet up with people, have food fights and hunt things down while we waited for tequatl, then after we got everything, we’d all say what we had – that was almost more fun than the prize…
Now while I enjoy a good challenge like everyone else, Anet takes the most popular places and changes it , they fix what works ….and totally ignore what needs fixing or more excitement. They keep changing things that become popular , and do nothing to make things that they insist we visit with dailys more popular.
So it’s not tequatl getting suddenly hard that bothers me, it’s anet doing what they’ve done to hall of heros, skill bars, guild halls, lions arch – they fix what works and ignore what doesn’t. then add more stuff / rinse / wash / repeat. The only thing i can sense from the expansion is that anything i like or becomes fun is going to be changed, and anything no one really cares to visit will be part of the daily.
the game is so huge, why always pick on the popular spots where people actually get along and play nice together ? over-production.
next time a group gets along nicely together regularly at some event, instead of fixing that, how about making a new less visited area even better than the last ?
Tougher remixed fights invite trolls to play the blame game – where as a new dragon / boss in a new area inspires new team work.

why even go to a stress test, you can tell by the forum things are quite stressed already! ^.^
It’s just a game. Let’s try to keep that in perspective. If you enjoy that….well great. I use to enjoy a lot of things about guildwars too.
i propose for people that want an easier game, there’s a “gawd” mode on installing the game, that gives them everything in the game in one big bundle that’s account bound. “The Big loot Bag” that way they can be happy, and the rest of the world can play normally and gain meaningful loot. just paint their loot green.
This is the result of giving the people what they wanted. I preferred the LS route, it was a change, but you (not you OP) people wanted an expansion because this mystic expansion. Supposedly, was going to make all your dreams come true and turn gw2 into the MMO you dreamt off.
Well, this is what it is. The ls was the best thing about this game and you people have ruined it for me anyways.
I agree. Anet gave into a bunch of players that were not even playing the game and are still not until the expansion comes out. Then when the content drys up. Won’t be playing again. ArenaNet has pretty much taken a crap on its loyal following for hyped up quick sales.
yes, and I personally blame that on metrics – it’s obvious that they are looking for new players …..the problem is not all new players are the same.
Their orignal fans are the ones that moved on to other games and made those esports, while anet used metrics to see how they can copy wow. Anet was filling a void that wow was not ( aside from the no monthly fee ) – now dota 2 and lol filled that void and are stronger than wow and anet put together. How they overlooked those facts is beyond me.
PVE is meaningless and its about time people got it straight, its a grind to ascended gear and skins. The faster you do it the better.
In Spvp and WvW i have to agree damage is a tad high, having a fairly high armor 2600 armor and 17k hp, thiefs can burst you down in one implementation of stone with no chance to react.
I like pve. I think it is pvp and WvW that is meaningless. I also have no interest in getting ascended armor.
i have to agree with the pvp and wvw ……but on the ascended ….it’s a rush to run head first into a zerg blasting mega zerker power from an asuran mesmer dressed in ascended gear …and watch them scatter like roaches when they are surrounded by illusions and taking massive group damage – i usually do that and make it easy for the zerg right behind me to finish them off lol
not if no one knows about it or recognizes it.
value is subjective and based on perception. they could do 8million updates, but if they call it gw2.0 …it’s considered an old software …..despite the fact that it’s highly maintained software with an ‘old’ name.
fiat money doesn’t exist, but people kill for a piece of paper that they value called cash. but it’s really just paper.
like whats the difference between something old, and a collectors antique ….perception…nothing else.
(edited by Ricky.4706)
with all the complaining i do, it’s because i want to see gw 2 number 1 -
it bothers me to see other games getting 800k players a day, on something anet did long ago. bad decisions are being made and anet is losing people when they shouldn’t be, and yes they are losing people – check alexa rating …they dropped 16k ranks – that is no light drop.
there is a trust issue, and metrics go but so far.
imo, don’t be sorry …and it’s not crying. Feedback helps the company, and I’ve experienced the same things as you. White Knighting can actually hurt the company when it’s vs valid complaints that are in fact affecting attendance to the game.
Vets complain, because we love the game and are doing our best to preserve it and help Guide anet on things that their metrics don’t show. The idea is to sift through valid complaints, and trolling.
People are more volatile than metrics lol
and this is what makes it evident, that this isn’t a price issue, it’s a trust issue.
maybe trust is lacking from new players, because they don’t know anet, and trust is being lost from vet players because they know anet ? lol – or rather, are familiar with the update pattern they’ve used in the past.
So what will happen to people who don’t buy the expansion pack?
a quaggan dies for every copy not sold.
I don’t know about anyone else, but that kind of cheers me up. They were starting to remind me of teletubbies.
some dungeons take 3+ hours to finish, i would think that is a better reward for a hardcore player than a casual.
just for clarity, to me casual means, I don’t play all day, just to relax. No plans on joining some elite squad to earn trophies, doesn’t mean i wouldn’t mind sparring them when i have a moment.
casual players should not be synonymous with low iq – I do agree the ‘group’ in the challenging content, can be a challenge all itself with finding a normal playing group that doesn’t want to farm exploits for fun, that isn’t fun… but that doesn’t mean the game has to teletubbied either!
it’s like some parts of the game are unreasonably hard, and others are unreasonably easy…..anything that is somewhat balanced, gets ripped apart with patches.
i have to agree with wooden potatoes, and he had an excellent example at that….
before guildwars came out, i used to take iq tests for fun, qualified for mensa, studying builds in gw1 was a hoot, i spent almost as much time on the wiki designing builds as I did testing them in pvp, now gw2 makes me feel like i’m playing dodgeball with chess pieces.
Guildwars most certainly feels like it went from a hard core strategic war strategy game to teletubbies online. http://www.arts-wallpapers.com/childrens_art_wallpapers/Teletubbies/01/Teletubbies.jpg <—-the new lions arch.
seriously anet, if you want to cater to a younger demographics, dont ruin what sold you 6 million copies ….start a g rated annex version of the game and stop this 1 click “you won, yay!!” madness!!
and don’t go the extreme insta-kill opposite like you usually do in response, like you just did with tequatl, yall need to take some yoga or something to find a happy balance!
(edited by Ricky.4706)
i think the most important questions that comes to mind is, for how long does anet expect us to have these debates before release ?
and considering the current presidential candidates, I’m actually wondering who would look better in office – jayz and bae or kanye and kim – almost makes me wish lady gaga would run for office – would love to see congressmen dress up in pop art fashion, that could only help domestic and foreign relations.
at the very least it would make all the debating for office and expansions more entertaining
i’ve been in one of each apparently, in one match he went down in the usual time, in another match, it took like 13.5 minutes to get to the battery phase, that one was lost.
teq was one of the last things i was having fun with, now i just log in for 1 min or less for the daily chest and starting to feel silly about that lol
fair enough, i can see why it’s working better for you than me….
I’m pretty much a pug player, my enjoyment is going around to different events meeting new people making new strategies, learning new stuff and simply being free spirited, lone wolf merc for hire. – this path gets repeatedly stomped by these changes. I find fun popular places, popular things to do – some before they even get popular, they pop up on the radar – get changed …die …again and again.
why don’t they work on places that aren’t popular and stop killing popular things just so people go to less popular places ? the old daily was fun because I had my favorite spots to visit, the new daily forces you to go to less visited spots. maybe they are less visited because they are less fun ? maybe ?
Maybe it’s time you spread your wings. As the game changes, how you approach it has to change. This is true for all MMOs. There was a period of time when I did fractals like mad. I did them for months. Then I did other stuff.
When an MMO changes, you go out and you find what works for you, because it’s very very easy to get into a rut, and it’s even easier to think the rut is the game.
Remember the Queensdale champ train? Do you know how many people logged on and pretty much did nothing but that all day? Sometimes for hours. But it’s not the game. And when it got nerfed, some people were mad. They complained that they game was ruined because there weren’t so many champs in starting areas.
But there was just as many people, probably more, who loved that change too.
yes, but this is also an evaluation time for possible change of game, there is new art software that is also coming out that i may want to get, and there are other things I could ‘spend’ time on as well – things do have to get budgeted.
I can adapt, and have adapted over the years with the constant changes, but it has been exhausting – this time i want to know if where they are going is something I want to adapt to …or just put the game aside for a while and go elsewhere – i already own gw2 so i can just pick it up later in life – but i like anet , and would rather spend some time finding out what the kitten is going on and maybe if i can add my 2 cents before i go ahead and let this software take up space in my hard drive like so many others have as well.
It’s a game, I don’t have to anything. I just like guildwars and the community but the game is feeling more psychotic than diverse with it’s changes.
it’s like playing a game of chess, but somewhere along the way it was required to tie rooks together with a piece of string for a nunchuk fight to decide the winner…
(edited by Ricky.4706)
the cost of a legendary is just under 50 dollars in gems
isn’t it funny that no one argues about that, but a whole game expansion is more of less the cost of a legendary yet considered expensive ?
i really don’t think it’s about the price.
dwarves are just drunk asurans with mops on their heads.
yeah, it’s a pvp game, pvp is in our blood, the idea is to keep it more in the game than the forum lol
no, i can appreciate your point – if anything i’m trying to help….:D
I’m showing you how things can be perceived in different ways ……whats happening on this forum is a battle of perceptions. Your presentation gives me the impression of someone looking down on me, hence i saw you increasing the value of ‘rewards’ and devaluing my money….not that it’s what you intended, but considering the overall mood of the debates in general, precision in presentation is necessary ….it’s a game of walking on eggshells at this point lol
funniest kind of war at that!! lol – “so what you are trying to tell me is!?” lots of that going on. it’s like quicksand too, because the less shells you try to crack, the less confident you look. I know how to fight this one, but would rather not say, so much fun watching everyone hopping around different angles of debate lol!!
and i know i’m not helping, i do love and respect anet very much, but they broke my pvp game…..so ….it’s like
Say NO to #Orwellian Gaming!!
and for the twist – the price is not the problem, but it’s one heck of a spice to add to the fiesta of debates! compare the cash value of a legendary in gems, vs the expansion…and that should put it in a relative perspective. this is more a result from a loss of trust.
(edited by Ricky.4706)
ouch, the word “rewarded” has a funny ting…in your post. Less people will play and go to other games for such ‘rewards’ for spending money.
I would think the idea is to find a common ground that the company and gamer can live with.
Otherwise I won’t "reward’ you with my presence.
no slave thinking for me thanks. say no to orwellian gaming!
they had that in gw1 – but they avoid “technical challenges” – they can do it, they just don’t like doing it lol -it’s called work for a reason :p -
I have no doubts in this team to be honest, what i am wondering if they are trying to go to alaska when I’m thinking bermuda. Telling me to just get on, isn’t working this time around….i want a tan, not freezing weather :p
(edited by Ricky.4706)
imo the price really isn’t so bad, it’s the direction everything is going that makes the price questionable and compounding the issue.
i wouldn’t mind paying an average price for a game that i want, but are you doing what i want ? – anet are proven game developers, but that doesn’t mean they are taking things the direction we want and that’s why inspecting the package is such a big deal. no body wants to pay for something they don’t want. It doesn’t mean you didn’t do a lot.
(edited by Ricky.4706)
u know what gets me…….arenanet wanted to go e-sport – dota 2, has a daily attendance of 800k+ http://store.steampowered.com/stats/ – Dota2 looks like what guildwars use to be ….those fights look quite similar to hall of heros / heros ascent and gvg fights
- so what does anet do ? focus more on adventuring drives pvp further away from gw1
but on the same hand, like minds tend to come together like open fights such as tequatl and Jormag -
if we could simply have dungeons that allow one person to enter, and as more people are in proximity to each other, the monsters also level up – I don’t want to say when more enter the dungeon because there is always that guy that will go in a dungeon just to make it harder for the solo player.
It’s unfortunate but many things in the game get spoiled because of anti social behavior as well – we have a ton of friendly people …….but it doesn’t take many to ruin a part of the game.
Another reason I suggest character alignments in game – some people really do enjoy and are proud of acting evil, instead of fighting it, make a mechanism for it so they can stick with their own kind – an evil rp is most likely the one to spend most time trying to exploit the game …it’s been like that since mmorpg was first brought online – make evil / dark versions of the dungeons for them – i met the first evil guys, they were actually fun people, but simply were psychos online and took it to a whole nother level! lol – it’s a part of the culture and well, it’s just a part of the culture – just like mosquitoes – you’ll only throw off natures balance by trying to eliminate them :p
and naturally, people will gravitate to the alignment they like to play – evil play hardcore, good are more casual – and gray are both casual and hardcore depending on the events. There is a psychology to it. in fact, they make great celebrities – nothing like having a notorious evil character walking through town in mid daylight – everyone stops talking and pushes their children to safety as the dreaded monster peacefully walks through town smiling innocently at everyone.
the other phenomena about this approach, is people of good alignment shun the evil who pretend to rp as good – get severely chastised and rejected by the ‘good’ rp community. It’s quite fascinating to watch actually.
it’s why i went gray, fine…don’t trust me, just don’t hate me for no good reason, at the very least allow me a chance to offend you before you reject me from society! where as evil rp’rs are rejected and distrusted by good rpgrs. I’d be interested to see how that would play out in open world events! lol
living life as an outcast does have it’s merits!
(edited by Ricky.4706)
the big hype works for making big moves – going from guildwars 1 to guildwars 2 was a big deal ….and we were all like https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UUn-f5t53qc
but for an expansion, the sugar rush marketing for months on end with vets feeling neglected was more like https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qXLxM0u1aJw
fair enough, i can see why it’s working better for you than me….
I’m pretty much a pug player, my enjoyment is going around to different events meeting new people making new strategies, learning new stuff and simply being free spirited, lone wolf merc for hire. – this path gets repeatedly stomped by these changes. I find fun popular places, popular things to do – some before they even get popular, they pop up on the radar – get changed …die …again and again.
why don’t they work on places that aren’t popular and stop killing popular things just so people go to less popular places ? the old daily was fun because I had my favorite spots to visit, the new daily forces you to go to less visited spots. maybe they are less visited because they are less fun ? maybe ?
(edited by Ricky.4706)
ok, then please explain how the game has gotten more fun, maybe i’m missing something.
well yeah, that’s the point, i’d rather be in game!! ^.^
if people stopped complaining, then anet would have no idea what went wrong. dunno why people want us to pretend everything is just awesome sauce when it’s not. the anet developers can pretty much give us any game we want. so that’s not the problem.
i usually log on for a little bit to fight tequatl – that point seems moot now as it’s ridiculously overpowered….so i have to pass on that
i use to wvw , but since the match balances were never addressed, and right now it’s an op 1 shotter fest ….while my server jumped up to a higher rank/bracket in wvw …we are a small team but we are good …so now we are trashed for the next few fights
the spvp is just not for me…. i’d work on my grandmaster characters but the new ‘features’ and new ‘crafter’ might make that effort moot
i’m at a loss, and don’t even feel confident to choose something else i might enjoy doing because it will be upgraded to some form of parcheesi in some future patch.
it’s not the price of the expansion that’s bugging me, it’s the fact that they always seek to kill what i start having fun doing! I kind of want to log in now to play but feeling this big “Why?!” question from deep in my soul!
Fortunately debating with you guys has proven to be fun and intellectually stimulating.
what’s wrong with this picture ?!
i think anet needs to send us a memo of what they want us to do, cuz seriously, i’m not enjoying this play as you want, then they kill the things we play with.
(edited by Ricky.4706)
“What is being added before the expansion?”
confusion. I hope this helps.
anet isn’t grimy, but they do like to play games …amirite ?
