corporations are concerned about making investors happy, we need to be recognized as investors. simple.
being that this is a “hot” topic, i think it wise of them to take a moment to think of a proper reply.
anything they say will get a “awww man!!” response from someone, so we need to give them a chance to select from the phrases that will receive the least boos.
I for one would say
“Guys, my apologies, we’ve been so busy with E3 and excited to meet new people I admit we made a grave oversight, we want you to know we sincerely love and appreciate our veterans and you are NOT forgotten, we were just discussing all the wonderful things we are about to give to you in the expansion!!”
so yeah……I’m thinking i want the in game bmw sports coupe either black or metallic gold maybe ?
and a noob juicer for vets …fine! lol
all jokes aside, i think part of this deal should include recognizing everyone from noob to vet for their contributions to guildwars 2 , that’s really what this fuss is all about.
You guys paid more, ya’ll should get something ‘to remember this time and your role’ just like the vets should get something that recognizes them.
achievements and titles are a big thing in game, friendship, loyalty and recognition is a big thing in real life.
It’s just a bit of code. but it’s also a memory.
well yeah, i’d imagine a gaming community would be more sensitive, now had it been accounting software the reaction would be different…maybe ? somehow I don’t think an accountant would be amused by getting an achievement title of “math genius” as part of a peachtree accounting software option. peachtree pencil and eraser skins probably wouldn’t fly either.

a white robe with zero defenses for wvw and pvp for the prepurchasers! A symbol of their peace, devotion and purity!
these guys are the prepurchasers that boldly went in ahead of eeeeeveryone else, searching for bugs, patiently crashing their software and restarting, and valiantly defending the company’s efforts. All while paving the way for the rest of us that waited for a better bargain.
Wish them well, for their journeys will be filled with challenges and obstacles.
I for one can’t wait to see your glowing white robe in wvw so i can admire your achievements and salute you with my greatsword!
Cheers to you my friend!! May your camels walk without fleas!
my title is a tormentor, i’m dressed up in all exclusive fire gear that can’t be bought.
Think anyone notices me ? -sniffle – no.
at this moment I’m not buying it.
I still enjoy guildwars, but I don’t like it when I’m talking to someone and they are looking down at their phone texting just telling me “yeah, yeah” without even looking.
I will leave and wait for them to ‘text’ me, “hey, where did you go ?” and offer a better deal.
you want to ignore me and my requests ? ok, let me know when you are ready to pay attention again.
look, you can’t fault them for trying to create a sustainable business model.
My problem is that they are not considering the user side as much as they should be.
This could have been avoided, had they simply made smaller packages for lower prices through out the 3 years they waited to put out an expansion.
Judging from the price, if this is “my” beloved original gw team, they are just trying to keep up with the books…..Not take advantage.
unfortunately catching up with the books, is making them look like they are taking advantage. I’m not ready to believe that they are sinister like that …..
clumsy maybe, making hip shot decisions without consideration of the impacts, maybe …..but not evil. You can’t make such a great game if you are evil, evil is something exclusive to the marketing department lol :p
fire the marketing guy, put his head on a stick show it on the forum and everyone is happy again lol
i’m guessing it’s quota’s – you have to consider how fast the gaming and 3d market is changing, and the costs of keeping and maintaining those servers.
but seriously, if they just put out regular expansions for affordable prices, I’d buy them knowing it keeps them safe and us entertained ….less the questionable marketing.
ok, so the gem store wasn’t enough – yall do great work, just keep the expansions coming like every 6 – 12 months.
Do you think an expansion every year is sustainable? Or even healthy? Considering the amount of content desired in an expansion, do you think adding 5+ maps every year wouldn’t create a bloat of unused zones or adding a class + specializations for each profession wouldn’t cause balancing issues?
actually no, I don’t……the living stories were like expansions – they could have bundled them to sell for low prices. While they gave them away for free, that doesn’t help fund the company to be self sustaining.
Rather than give those away free, just package them at a lower affordable price so you don’t have to play catch up on one main expansion.
Further on the living stories, I wanted to play more of them…….but they came and ended so fast , I felt overwhelmed with the game already having to catch up on ascended, the new areas, the new events – so as cool as they thought it was to give me a ton of new content, what they did was overwhelm me…..It got to a point that i actually feel relief when events are over. But now they can’t be played again. Had it been an expansion, I would have just purchased them and played them at my own pace – they would have gotten paid for their work, I wouldn’t have missed out on a timed event and they wouldn’t have to play catch up because they did all those timed events for free.
so i respectfully disagree with your assessment because they were already expanding the game in those stories.
how many living events did we have in one year ? 3 ? 3 story events for 30 dollars wouldn’t be unfair imo, all while giving me a chance to play them at my own pace and get items I wouldn’t otherwise be able to get because the event ended before I could finish it.

rhymes with know…..just know.
some must die so that others may live ..maybe ? the prepurchasers are the pioneers that will make the game eventually more affordable for you and me! #heros
" What if they offered a $60 package that includes the $50 package PLUS a free character slot?"
I’d feel insulted, and convinced they want a moron audience with money to burn so they can start a cult of people that worship aliens. #epsilon

i’m guessing this is a result of the dreaded skill balancing, bringing in a new race means bringing in new race specific skills means balancing it into the current game balance.
This was a big deal in gw1 which is why they fixated certain builds in the weapons in gw2 – the players were simply brilliant and constantly coming up with op builds sending the developers back to the drawing board….i believe they grew to really dislike constantly re-balancing the skills -snicker- at least they have it down to polishing and tweaking, not completely revamping. they take their skill balancing very seriously! As is they probably spent a lot of time balancing the new skills they added.

-cut scene to super hero gw team smashing through wall and saving a bad deal-
can’t have the most amazing solution ever without a mess to clean first! ^.^
Armageddon to a noob pr guy, free marketing to a pro!
now about that in game bmw sports coupe…….
it really makes sense as a promotional idea for e3 if you think about it, what gets me is no one was there to say “and make sure you have something for our loyal fans also, don’t leave them feeling left out” #hotgate #aliens #bodysnatchers

-sigh- the management probably looks at their own staff like statistics too :/
-big hug and a thank you to artists and developers for enduring that-
for all we know the artists and developers know us better than management and management doesn’t listen. so many variables..
(edited by Ricky.4706)
strangely enough, i’m feeling it for both sides, i’m trying to see anets side too in the challenges they face with today’s market and having to please investors, that can be pressure.
I’m just trying to find the point in time when they stopped trusting us to just buy stuff and support them, and instead thought more about marketing and statistics ?
where exactly in time did we stop being friends ?
i’d say there’s some space to believe that someone thought it was a bright idea to attract new players ….but if i were to believe that….I’d also have to believe they didn’t once think of the vets so that would be kind of moot. :/
i’m guessing the physical packaging limitations are ncsofts imposed limitations, their quarterly expenses for packaging were extremely low.
unless the veteran in question doubts this is the same gw team that made gw great. the original gw team was always cool with us and never tried marketing schemes on us, they actually made the promotions quite fun at one time.
i guess it’s all how you want to look at it, 1 plus one = 2 or 1 and 1 = 11 there’s enough #fnord for everyone lol
actually 39.99 on amazon.com from ncsoft’s page.
so new players get expansion for 10 dollars, ‘old’ players get the expansion only for 50 dollars and have to spend 10 dollars extra for one slot.
very well, let’s all think positive thoughts, i’d like that.
wishful thinking is good, let’s see what happens. I hope for the best, but not for the dark side to win, i want my old gw guys back.
maybe if we got pewdiepie to review it , that would be 7 ?
you are a vocal minority, there are about 6 major websites with articles that disagree.
Those 6 articles were written by 6 people. That doesn’t mean they represent a majority. All they do is write about the vocal minority so more people can read what the vocal minority thinks.
6 people with a bigger audience than you maybe ?
you are a vocal minority, there are about 6 major websites with articles that disagree.
well it does seem more and more that anet wants the ‘old’ community to leave.
grind the world ….hrmm….never heard it put that way before…..makes it sound dirty……i like it!
but i agree though. massive grind!!
wow, after that last post , i got myself all worked up and fired up gw1 …i forgot how to play rofl!! what did we do with mats again ? lol i almost salvaged a blood knife that took me forever to get :x
(edited by Ricky.4706)
lol, maybe we should all go back to gw 1 and fire up the Hero’s ascent as a peaceful protest – leave gw2 alone for a while. I miss those days actually! I still have a few more titles to go that i could transfer back to gw2 after they figure out what to do.
would be hilarious actually – BRING BACK THE IWAY!! hahaha
show the noob whipper snappers what guild versus guild is really all about!! we’ll school ya! back in the day when we had to walk fifteeeen miles just to get a heal!! No jumping!!
Ya’ll know nothing!! you even get most of yer skills picked out for ya!! -smh-
we had math and physics students in our day calculating the metabuilds du jour, we had the developers busier than a cat on a hot tin roof trying to keep up with our op builds!! there were glorious tears eeeeverywhere!!
if new guys are going to complain about or support anet or it’s vets, go back to our roots so we are all on the same page, gw1 is still there.
(edited by Ricky.4706)
the original gw team is absolutely trustworthy.
they wouldn’t have done things this way. They didn’t become number one by playing mind games.
I’m starting to wonder if they did this on purpose for free press lol
You mean, there’s no such thing as bad publicity? lol
lol, maybe someone said “hey, we need more feedback” ? haha
honestly, i just want my old gw team back….i’d gladly buy this package with 2 character slots if i can have that.
you can get the un-expanded version of guildwars 2 on amazon.com for 39.99
this comes with 5 slots – the expansion bundles this bringing the value of the expansion to 10 dollars. for new players
For vets, you only get the expansion, and have to go next tier to 74.99 to get 1 slot.
yeah, i can get that slot with gems….but I’d still be paying 50+ dollars for just an expac and 1 slot. That’s more than starting over.
Could they at least say “Please, we need your help guys”.
not look at us quietly and wonder if we’ll fall for it ?
well, i am an old school pvp’r …so until i upgrade, i will take pride in using old tricks effectively on new dogs lol
people will always cry about something, it’s when they all cry in harmony that you have to be concerned about lol
although the current trend would lead you to think they will add some new superior stat to wvw that you can only get in hot to force you to upgrade to be competitive in wvw.
imo – they can easily back out of this, i think the ultimate solution is the decision maker going back to their gut instincts and stop burying their heads in stats. no more head games, we love you and wouldn’t let you fall, providing you are actually still the you we’ve been supporting all these years.
while business is still business, it’s built on trust.
I’d rather they put out regular expansions than play marketing games for quick cash grabs.
“Is it really that bad for the Vets?”
yes
asking “are your sure?” 500 times in new threads isn’t going to change it. it took a while to get here.
this isn’t just about an upgrade being called an expansion anymore, it’s about a growing trend that many vets are not appreciating.
(edited by Ricky.4706)
nah, in gw 1 they announced regular expansions and we got excited for each one
this round it seems pride came into play with wanting to prove they can do it with just the gem store, and that’s when the head games began.
I personally had no problem with regular expansions, I respected that they run a business and needed to stay alive….
I could do without the marketing kittens though, they put themselves in that spot by trying to force a business plan that needed tweaking.
Dude, just release regular expansions and quit trying to prove you have the superior business plan ……..your fans love you….they don’t need all the extra marketing nonsense to prove your plans are working, they already worked and was a proven model in gw1.
So just plan on making regular expansions that will help you meet your quarterlies and make sure they have character slots for any new character you add. Don’t fix what wasn’t broken!
just remember I said it! #hotgate
all we need now is for adobe to secretly purchase ncsoft and make us play guildwars 2 hot on the adobe cloud -gag-
from this vet – i actually had my mind set on this expansion for a while – gw2 is pretty much my main game and has been for years…i don’t watch tv lol.
I didn’t want to get excited about it ( though i really did want to get excited because I always have been ) But i did not allow myself to get excited about it because I’ve felt a lot of let downs that started making the game more painful than a moment of relaxation. Example, I’m a pvp’r ….I enjoy specifically wvw – the pvp area seems too knee-jerk reaction for me to consider competitive ….but wvw is just fun running with a zerg, you can hear me singing “Born free” at any given time when rolling with my crew….
but then they brought ascended weapons that you have to grind for to get the best stats FORCING me to pve – I was all wvw ….and the video said “Play as you want” …well I want to play with the best stats / equal to everyone else playing with best stats in wvw. “There’s no grind” – I had to grind to get a grandmaster, then grind to get the mats or money to buy mats to make ascended weapons, and still grinding for about another 15 years to get one character all ascended. Fractals are not play as I want, because I’m tired of waiting 40 hours to put together a team where one person kicks you out for any given reason, that’s stupid and antisocial and I’m here to relax, but anet seemed to have their own agenda and anything I tried to say got flagged on the forum….fine , I just said whatever and now roam the game like some drone trying to find anything fun i can do with random pug groups while farming mats…
join guilds they said, i joined many, all either died or run by some wanna be gawd that wanted to dictate your every gaming moment. The 2 coolest guilds I ever joined are now dead – 2 lists of 450 players each totally grayed out …gone. I stayed in them hoping one day an event ..such as this, that ended up dissing vets, would bring them back. but forget that now….
but i digress…
I look at the upgrade price for hot ….and i’m like whoa 50 bucks ….my boys must need money …hrmmm…….then I see that to get 1 slot ….I need to spend 25 bucks more to get junk i dont use and means nothing to anyone else looking at me ….I’m all about stats not fluff. so my concern is a good account to hold items i use with best stats and mats to make em. not no mini that’s going to stand by me as i die in wvw ….no…just no….
but does my voice matter on the forum, ….no …just no..
so anyways…..I see they are making a campaign for new members …and I’m like …yep …they need money
but wait …..they quietly changes faqs………vets have to spend 25 extra bucks more to get just 1 slot …..the forum is in an uproar and they aren’t saying anything, just quietly shutting down threads ….
suddenly…..i went from feeling like my boys needed funding, to feeling like a lab rat with some alien guys in white coats wondering what my financial pain threshold is …..
so, i’m starting to think, body snatchers here ……this isn’t the team I originally supported….and something suspect is going on……. yeah i like guidwars a lot ….
can i have my original team back please ? i have no idea who these new guys are running the show. yeah your game looks great, just like 50 others do too. What made it all special was the og gw team ….where’d they go ? 50 bucks is a lot of money to pay for bug hunting, and no character slot ….my guys wouldn’t have tried to play me like that …and they knew i was ready to buy anything from the shop in gw1….
my own personal #hotgate conspiracy theory – they’ve been invaded by aliens.
(edited by Ricky.4706)
i’m not quitting either, i’m already paid for un-expanded forever free fun. but i’m not excited at all, and that is a crime considering all the amazing past experiences. My last favorite memory was Gw2 beta, and that was the last time I remember seeing the GW that i know and love ….after release …it changed.
it sure kittened me off, they wen’t from being one of the humblest, most ambitious, most wonderful game dev team that not only wanted to make their players happy, but enjoyed hanging out with us , to “Oh man, what are they going to try next ?”
You do understand that it isn’t the development team that makes these decisions, correct? They still want to make their players happy, they still want to build a game that they enjoy playing, and they still hang out with us although maybe a little less right now so they don’t get kittened at for something that isn’t their doing.
yes, it’s the aliens that think they got this under control
It’s the developers that got us here. nothing but love for the artists and developers.
whomever took the reigns is damaging it for all of us, from gamer to the developers and artists who pour their heart out to entertain us.
so unfortunately the developers have to take some heat for letting those aliens run / ruin the show they worked their hearts out for.
Dear developers and artists of anet – after all we’ve been through together, you gonna let the aliens play us like that bro ? serious ?
(edited by Ricky.4706)
it sure kittened me off, they wen’t from being one of the humblest, most ambitious, most wonderful game dev team that not only wanted to make their players happy, but enjoyed hanging out with us , to “Oh man, what are they going to try next ?”
I remember getting super excited about every single release they did with gw1 –
then they did this forum, got all tough on us, “knowing how crazy we were from the net” and try to kitten down a pvp audience ? you serious ?
all this tells me is that they never knew us. kind of makes me feel like the gw1 team was purchased and replaced by aliens.
