i think at this point we are going to have to ask for in game bmw sport coupes or something so we can get something reasonable.
asking for 1 slot at this point, is like taking a settlement for 50 copper as a counter offer, their base offer shows they are playing hard ball!

lol, and that’s why i said from the official site…..
posting “OLD” versions of an upgraded software on amazon is normal.
this is not an expansion, this is an upgrade.
it’s such a simple concept that will solve much confusion.http://www.amazon.com/Guild-Wars-2-Pc/dp/B001TOQ8X4
That’s what you asked for. You don’t get to tell me you want a link from the official site. If you’re incapable of comprehending the answer don’t ask the question.
all you are establishing is that the new player is getting a 39.99 value with 5 slots and ultimately getting the expansion for 10 dollars, an established player has to pay 74,99 dollars to get 1 slot and 1 expansion.
If you are incapable of understanding that, enjoy the beta – you paid for that right to be a bug hunter for free. cheap labor at it’s finest, beyond cheap you are paying for it. PT Barnum would love this. I’ll wait till you sort out the bugs and they have a more reasonable sale. No rush, so much to do in the main game still. I still need to let a skritt turn me into a jackalope or something like that, plenty to keep me busy for a few years actually.

well in all fairness, i’m not sure it’s that easy to make a ton of content super fast, not to mention. …from what i’ve seen in the videos, the areas are more vertical now….this makes it bigger but in a different dimension.
what really gets me, is I’d rather see a post from them saying “Guys, we need your support” and not some buy 1 get 1 free deal when there is only one software to buy.
suddenly the little stuff like character slots feel like a big deal…..all because they just couldn’t say – guys – this is a fund raiser! Instead i feel like a consumer having to defend my right to inspect the offering and watch my back.
yes, it’s a business, but they are still human and walked the earth with us having fun and growing together too. You want to make it all business ? fine, show me what you got. if i like it, i’ll support it, right now, i’m not liking it.
(edited by Ricky.4706)
wow, i clutched my chest when i read this, …really moving…
but no.
ever catch a person you thought was a best friend suddenly trying to figure out how to get money from you ? not fun.
I have the up most respect for anets artists and programmers, i don’t like how they are getting pimped.
@aiden nah, we are beyond that. There IS no choice to get the core game alone.
There is no fantastic deal when you have no choice. that’s pretty simple to understand.
I have a choice… I don’t need to buy the core game again I already have it.
what core game, can you show me a link to buy this core game without the expansion ?
there is no 2nd program, there is no buy 1 get one free deal, because there is only one game. Hot. guildwars 2 has been replaced by hot.
well don’t give anyone ideas, they might just make armor a new feature in Heart of thorns and leave everyone in the un-expanded versions naked for not ‘obeying’ lol
Hey look what they did with the trait points ….years of playing normal and boom suddenly one day someone decided it was a treat to level
and lets not call making a grand master crafter grind, oh no, that’s just playing with axes picks trees, plants, and rocks ….a whoooooole lot, so much that that axes and picks break …alot and you have to buy more…….but it’s not grind!! yay!
yes, let’s call a spade a diamond!
(edited by Ricky.4706)
i just want the core game, i’m the customer. why can’t I buy the core game alone ?
the current deal is I can get the expansion AND the core game free, so this is a claim that there are 2 products ….
I just want the main product. where can I get it on the official site ?
nah, we are beyond that. There IS no choice to get the core game alone.
There is no fantastic deal when you have no choice. that’s pretty simple to understand.
Why would you choose the core game without expansion if you get the core game for free by buying the expansion? If the expansion content bothers you , just don’t venture into the new zones.
my friend is scared of heights :/
@aiden nah, we are beyond that. There IS no choice to get the core game alone.
There is no fantastic deal when you have no choice. that’s pretty simple to understand.
so then you mean this bundle deal is no deal at all because there is no other choice ? wow. ok. thank you.
oh no, this feels like verizons forced triple play….I don’t want a phone or tv, i can get that for free on the internet, I just want the internet, everything else in your ‘bundle’ deal is too expensive!!
-shudders- don’t you hate when they do that ?
but yeah, where can I get the version without heart of thorns, my neighbor just wants to make videos of me scared to put on youtube, please help.
but i just want the main program. I don’t want the scary expansion. where do i get that on the official site ? i don’t want it there, my neighbor is mean and might bring my character there when i’m not home. as i understand it, there is guildwars core, and hot the expansion. I just want guildwars core please.
thank you, but the ad says it’s 2 products, I just want the main one without the flying, thats scary. they are 2 different products right ?
Hi, I’m new, I saw the stuff about hearts of thorns, but i’m scared of flying and heights, I’d like to buy the original guild wars 2 without the scary expansion.
where can I find the un-expanded version of guildwars 2 on the official guildwars2 site please ?
because there aren’t 2 products for sale on the gw 2 site. but it’s marketed as 2 products.
to make your argument stand, you have to show me an un-expanded version of guildwars 2 on their site that i can purchase.
It doesn’t exist, just like your ‘entitlement’ argument.
yes, exactly …..the new players think they are getting 2 products, but they are not.
Vets simply have an un-upgraded version. The OLD gw2, Hot is the NEW gw2.
If it were truly an expansion, then there would be an un-expanded version for sale on the gw2 site. Now as an upgrade, it is customary to remove older versions. Pure smoke and mirrors.
(edited by Ricky.4706)
show me where on the gw2 page I can buy an unexpanded version ?
No reasoning or guesswork required. It doesn’t exist anymore.
Hot is not a separate product, it is the new core game.
call it the pet rock festival if it makes you happy, but there are not 2 products …..Hot is the core game now. advertising 2 products for 1 is a fib.
lol, there IS no core game, show me where I can purchase a Core game..
HOT is the core game, there is no value of 2 products being purchased as one.
This is an upgrade, not an expansion. Else there would be an independent product that can be purchased with which we can expand upon.
No such product exists. Let’s try to fix this mess by shattering this obfuscating marketing illusion. Guildwars 2 version 1 has been replaced by Heart of Thorns. Heart of Thorns is the New and improved core version, it is guildwars 2 version 2.0 or guildwars 3 if that makes it more appealing. call it the life and times of wesley quaggan for all i care …but don’t call it a 2 product value because there are not 2 products versions available to be purchased on the guildwars 2 site Just heart of thorns.
(edited by Ricky.4706)
If you dont agree on the pricing thats totally fine, your opinion.
this seems to contradict the title of the thread, which implies the veteran “entitlement mentality” is not fine. What mentality would you consider yourself ? surely if you can judge a veteran mentality, you can judge your own ? Conformist maybe ?
(edited by Ricky.4706)
so there are not 2 products, Hot is just Guildwars 2 vs 2.0
otherwise, there is no such thing as a guild wars core edition, else it would be a seperate product like guildwars 1 – http://store.guildwars.com/store/gw/cat/categoryID.67871700
there is just one product now …..Heart of thorns, Guildwars 2 version 1.0 no longer exists …other than accounts that have not been upgraded yet.
u know, if they called hot an upgrade, it would not be a problem …that’s how upgrades work ….if i have software v1.0 and there’s a paid upgrade to v2.0 – i wouldn’t have a 1.0 and a 2.0 …I’d just have a version 2.0 – veteran user …OR new user.
But since it’s being marketed as 2 products, Guildwars base, and guildwars Hot expansion….the perception is completely different.
as an expansion, it’s not a good deal, as an upgrade, it’s normal – simply by perception.
1 product, people are just making it out to be something it actually isnt which is the entire point.
yes, but that would be misleading if they are marketing it as 2 products.
you can’t buy just the base guildwars, this is not an expansion, it’s an upgrade.
the more i look at this, the more interesting it is as a case study from company to user.
The perception of implying there are 2 products when in reality there is only 1, makes people feel like they are getting less when they only get 1 of 2 products.
If anet wanted to fix this instantly, all they would have to do is call Hot a Guildwars 2 upgrade….but since I’m 99 percent sure that won’t happen, I am very curious to see their pr / marketing team wiggle their way out of this one. Lot’s to be learned in upcoming weeks!! ^.^

the very title of this thread is oppressive. no thank you, i’ll pass. i’m happy with what i have and i’m stopping there. the expansion has this Orwellian flair that is not sitting well with me.
yes, but you are endorsing an oppressive position….so far that paints for me a picture of what the expansion environment will be like. it’s just a game.
or maybe it’s being over thought, i just came back from steam and they are having a massive sale …it is just a game and maybe it’s time to move on to better deals. i already have the core gw2 account, i just wont go deeper into this rabbit hole, there always seems to be some new drama with how they handle things, and that’s getting a little old.
if they made the core guild wars – free to play for everyone, then it would be a better deal so new player and vet alike get a free game, and a paid expansion for 50 dollars.
You can already do this. Just buy HoT under a new account.
but i’d rather gift that new account or make a new vanilla account and keep the hot expansion for my main. so this is no deal for me, it’s just expensive dlc.
So lets say your going to gift it, and what if that person wants HoT? They then get another thing they can gift or keep which is pretty useless. You can increase your character count as much as you want by either a real money payment or with gold. If you think its just an expensive dlc focus on that and not that new players get the core game. HoT is $50 with or without the core game.
useless ? being able to gift a game to a friend is a nice feeling , i would hardly call that useless and is even a great promotion strategy.

@Jongi – the current deal is a Hot expansion AND a free core account. I’d be happy with expanding my core account and being able to gift the extra core account or even set up a 2nd core account anet is offering for free ( i like making asura characters of every class ). is that bad ?
lol, this topic is so big beyond just the basic price tag, it should be coined #hotgate heh!!
the idea that people think people should not feel entitled to get what they pay for is seriously fascinating. forget the game, i want to understand how people have come to accept this, it may help understand why the world is such a mess today.
so you just want people to stop getting upset, and just don’t support the company ?
how is that good for anet ?
you will face a small caveat with me in debate, i care about the company.
so a customer is not entitled to what they want to pay for ? isn’t that …oppressive ?
this fascinates me beyond the game actually, this is the same argument Nestle uses to imply that water isn’t a human right. water is not an “entitlement” and should be purchased.
it concerns me that gaming companies are slowly training their audience to this mentality.
so unless they agree with you, they are whining ? you don’t see that as oppressive behavior ?
Jongi, do you realize you are endorsing oppression ?
i’m in 2 big guilds with like 450 members each….none of them log on anymore or have been around in years. this deal isn’t bringing them back.
Your not though. The expansion is 50 dollars with or without the free core game. If you dont think its worth it dont buy it.
and as a concerned vet, I have to ask you…how does that help anet ?
what if I do care about the developers well being and informing them I think their marketing department is not acting in their best interest ?
what if ironically enough, I do want anet to be around a very long time, and am saying their approach is harming the community with negative reactions. What if I wanted to tell anet, that if they needed more money, there are enough people that really care so they do not have to resort to such negative marketing ?
so you think it’s best only new players buy the expansion, veterans should not complain because the sale is simply not for them and they should avoid upgrading unless they are ok with paying more for less. fair enough.
I do think they are entitled to a clear message though.
“existing accounts pay more for less” then there would be nothing to complain about.
(edited by Ricky.4706)
again, I want to comprehend the op’s level of understanding in the word, ‘entitlement’
Jongi, do you believe a customer should not feel entitled to what they pay for ?
isn’t this like communism ? no one is entitled to anything beyond what everyone else gets ? since you are happy , i should be too ? everyone is equal, resistance is futile, we will be assimilated, don’t fight it, just say yes ?
I don’t have to buy more either. is that good for the future of anet ?
I won’t buy anything new and simply consume their bandwidth farrr more than the initial price I paid for it.
That is a great deal actually.
so a customer is not entitled to their moneys worth ? serious ? lol
forget about just the game, but is this the future leaders of the world speaking ? heh
unfortunately the same argument can be made vs anet. they believe they are entitled to 50 dollars for poor service. I think it’s time to cause more silence than rage.
further the thought of the bad company that make posts like the op to be found in the expansion certainly devalues the game even more than the poor service for me.
the talk of the friendliest community on the net is obviously a lie.
No holocaust gaming for me thanks. I’m “ENTITLED” to respect – but i wont be asking anet for it.
They want our money more than we want their game, you should consider that when pretending to be holier than thou.
and unfortunately, i have to agree, that is what it does feel like. I’d rather help a friend, than feel like i’m being sold a gold painted rock. wait…..i need help with an analogy on that one….
well, in studying myself, i’m finding myself becoming less attached to it, by effort, simply because i have to stand back and remind myself it’s a game lol. I still really enjoy the game, but am learning to not want more than I already have. I could easily just set my mind on getting legendaries and all ascended character and have a full gaming life. That’s not good for anet though.
If i knew anet needed the money for survival reasons, i’m seriously a fan. But considering the first feeling i got was not positive, i’m feeling that yoga moment of letting go of material wants lol
but yes, i still care about anet and it’s community. -shrug- it’s the only reason i’m posting really.
(edited by Ricky.4706)
just curious, if they made hot and the core game 2 separate products – you could either make a new un-expanded core account…or you can gift it….while upgrading your main account with the expansion. would this be reasonable ? it would basically be the same thing it is now, except both vets and new players enjoy the same perks of a free guildwars 2 core account.
this would have played out different if it were 2 products, because then the vets would have had the option to start a new un-upgraded vanilla account or gift the extra version and encourage the new user to purchase the expansion, and each new expansion purchased would have created a new giftable account. That would have been a perpetual fan marketing move.
heck, i could have used that free account to hold a twitter or youtube contest or something.
(edited by Ricky.4706)
well…i’m trying to avoid a blame situation and start neutral – for the sake of a happy future, and my history with anet, I remember when things weren’t like this, but that was also when it was a much smaller scale. I also remember reading that many of the developers aren’t exactly getting rock star salaries, and i can’t even begin to imagine the costs of keeping all the servers online and keeping a good staff of it people on call 24/7 So I’d like to avoid the apology part in giving neutral ground to Anet too, let’s just pretend they are trying to get a raise to match the cost of living, – not disregarding anyones feelings, because to be honest, I feel it too….. but I’m putting it aside in good faith to see if we can find something peaceful everyone can live with.
if 10 dollars more gives our dedicated developers a happier life, then it’s not a big issue from that view – it’s not like we are forced to buy things from the gemstore after that…so it is a one time cost not a yearly cost.
From this ‘assumption’ they shouldn’t have to apologize for trying to keep a job and live a normal life. – again, this is simply giving them the benefit of the doubt to see if we as a community from company to player can find a happy middle ground. Everyone wants and needs more money, life is just expensive these days! for them and for us.
