that’s nothing, what i saw makes that look like a food buff lol
i just found a youtube video showing it at work, not going to post it or give further details because I don’t think it would be proper – but wow – i had to laugh at how op it makes players. Apparently there’s even more to it than people have complained / discovered about it. – from what I saw – a group of 5 can basically op a t1 server easily. if they added perma stealth to it – no one would know why they lost.

it’s not as bad, it’s worse – they are forcing pve in the most aggressive way possible – they make you grind for the best stats in pvp equipment. you will either grind in gold to buy it – grind in crafting to get your character to level 500 and grind in materials to make it. In some cases you can’t even buy it so you are forced to grind anyways. And even if you don’t care for getting the best stats – they added spores to wvw anyways. ….spvp is the equivalent of the food fights in la – so there is no real strategic pvp anymore without being forced into pve one way or another – that’s if you want to save your doylaks from this spore horror.
exactly opposite of what they advertised. talk about a loss of trust.
darkhaven can pull it’s weight – but tonight we had the outnumbered buff – and thanks to the grind for getting ascended weapons, I found myself up in kessex hills trying to get the new spores drops – the area was so packed….i was having major skill lag and kept getting disconnected. – everyone was farming spores lol
so while we have intense moments in wvw, our server is pretty well balanced with pve and pvp. Our community is fun, but the burden placed on the players is killing the flow of the game in every way possible – even for pve – since these events only last a fixed amount of time – everywhere they are gets flooded with players. – considering there were 3 events in living story – everyone was all over the place.
the game is great, the players are fun – anet is making everyone psychotic trying to keep up with everything..
so I’d have to give it a 1
it was so bad tonight – I’ve decided to find another game because this game just got way too stressful and I need an alternative to just play a fun relaxing game – not gritting my teeth at every possible issue and spending more time on a forum than in the game – even when the events are fun – you get skill lag and disconnects – there’s just always some problem either in balance, in grinding, or in lag.
In beta – all i played was wvw, – for most of the game – unless maxing a new character – i’ve been in wvw….i can honestly say i really don’t appreciate the direction it’s going and feel like i need to break a nasty habit.

lol…based on that strategy, I would add bunkers as part of the outmanned buff -
a bunker would be just that – a structure 5 guys can build in the middle of the field to damage 80 man blobs – but bunkers only pop up as part of the outmanned buff and vanish when it’s gone.
i wouldn’t say they are poorly thought out, I think Anet created a dilemma that they are trying to figure out a way to work – in concept the idea of server vs server is nice – but requires server pride and relatively balanced numbers. The problem is they are trying to fix a flawed system – because it’s not a perfect world and people want the shiny more than they want friends and pride.
They don’t want to enforce rules on everyone because some guilds have bigger numbers than other – and they have ultimately placed themselves in a kitten ed if you do and kitten ed if you don’t position.
The perfect solution would be to kill the score on open world wvw – and leave that to the gamers to create player made tournaments – but I’m quite sure they assume it will all be a grief fest with people killing pve’rs simply for sport lol – and yes that will happen. – but it will also encourage servers to work together to prevent that from happening.
Then make a duplicate of wvw in the sPvp arena – which I’m sure has it’s own issues on the financial / server side
what a tangled web we weave!!
wvw is not a real competition in it’s current state, and imo they are simply wasting time and resources trying to make it one. you can’t call a bad ball good. – making an unbalanced fight competitive was a no go idea – the more you try to fix it – the worse it will get.
I respectfully disagree- the winners are the ones that have the most fun.
I’d rather lose with my crew than win with shiny hunters. – we always win, even when we lose.
should be an interesting week – if anything, I’m happy to see Hod with such a great population in wvw – nice to see you guys in fighting spirits – yall got some serious numbers!! if it is in fact your pve crowd – that’s awesome!! I finished my monthly already fighting you! lol -shakes hands-
Cheers!
it doesn’t matter, we fight anyways – so you better win – cuz we are outnumbered. not by a little either. -grin-
@anvil – looks like we have a little blob problem on both our hands.
(edited by Ricky.4706)
Even more fun fact, you can’t prove that …I know we are outnumbered on reset night ^.^ so good luck with your explanations
the next match is going to be a pain – Hod is suspiciously overpopulated – I wouldn’t be surprised one bit if it’s a bunch of transfers from t1 that got tired of ques. – the one crazy guy constantly jumping in your zergs face – would be me. – considering the outmanned buff gives me free repairs I’ll keep doing it .
the only thing that motivates me personally to get into wvw is my team / server – they really are awesome to fight with – win or lose, the fights are epic. I find these rewards / achievements / events a major distraction to be honest – I actually dread any new updates and events at this point. – not being sarcastic – it’s how I really feel. – I feel that way with microsoft and adobe updates too – your computer is working fine – then boom – they issue some patch that causes major problems. lol – i hate to say it but all these new and improved things – lost their appeal to me – my crew is the best prize in the game.

I can’t speak for larger servers, but in smaller servers – it’s very important to be highly mobile, no matter how big your zerg is you have to be able to go from one side of the map to the other in the blink of an eye – that is incredibly powerful when you have a group of 40+ more moving like 1 ninja on steroids – your groups needs to trust your moves to move that efficient. Don’t be predictable – in our server we constantly have roamers and watchers keeping an eye on the opposing zerg to the point that we are able to predict their next moves. if they are right and are too big, we are left – if they are our size or smaller – we are in their face right after taking a tower. – train your guys to not let dying or losing a battle affect morale – they should be anxious to die 50 times till you take the enemy down one way or another – either face to face or by taking all the land you can as fast as you can. Make your enemy paranoid.
Float like a butterfly, sting like a shotgun!
(edited by Ricky.4706)
Omg, absolutely epic to the last second – don’t sleep on em!!
great job DH, and all other servers in it too!! wow!!
if you ignore achievements, the wvw score and all the extra shiny things they dangle in our faces, the game will fix itself and balance itself. The only reason wvw is such a mess is because of the score – the only reason pve has overwhelmed wvw is because of achievements.
The minute I don’t care about what new shiny they are offering, I start having fun again simply playing the game with fun people – like a deck of cards.
I started today by directing their new announcements to my spam – if I don’t pay attention to all the distractions they add to the game, I actually look forward to playing again.
Take whatever shiny you can get and run. – avoid any people that make a big deal of these vanity items – it clearly ruins the game.
yeah it’s not worth it, ignore the rewards, most of the new items and achievements – there comes a point that the best reward is ignoring someone that makes you feel like everything is stressful, unachievable and not worth it.
I’ll offer the achievement now.
“jingles respect achievement* – balancing the game is the 1st of 9,945 ranks, you’ll get a pat on the back for giving me what i paid for.
DH vs FC vs GOM – intense fight – all servers are doing a bang up job – literally lol
our match is far from that – each server has had their turn in taking 1st 2nd and 3rd – at least 3 times already lol
whaddaya talking about – the whole rpg pvp is pretty much a complete system – all rpg games are derivatives from that system – it has to make sense – otherwise there will be tons of imbalances as we are experiencing – with characters and skills
it’s one thing to re-invent the wheel – it’s quite another to make it square! >_<
(edited by Ricky.4706)
oh please, I do not mind – go ahead – I’m not like that
oh, i can say , mesmers are in fact damage dealers with the right builds, in several ways – i usually chop most characters down in half with a 2 skill combo. I do camps solo – but at the expense of defense – so the slow movement makes my build hard and easy to catch – once the enemy locks on to your character with target – your illusions are useless for confusing them. it would also help if when you dodge and make a clone – your opponent either loses target lock or it transfers to the clone. otherwise, whats the sense of having a clone other than to spread conditions ?
(edited by Ricky.4706)
i have my greatsword which is great for zerging – all zerker with ascended jewelry – working on ascended gs now …..but other than that – I have a sword and a torch for alt weap – and i move way too slow to fight a warrior or thief , and take too much damage – the torch invis doesn’t last long enough to do anything but take 4 steps away…. the blur doesn’t last long enough to be significant….i’ll admit it’s great vs npc though – but in pvp – how is a nosebleeder that moves like a slug a duelist ?
it would be cool if confusion made him do one of random animations – he either cries, lies down to sleep, or starts dancing!
yeah, but the warrior has too much ‘magic’ – i’d really love to see gw2 stick to more rpg rules with the characters – it would certainly make the game more – funny if anything else
Like confusion – should leave the person I’m casting on …dazed and confused – the characters run the wrong way – they cast at the wrong creatures – they stop and cry lol
now tell me that wouldn’t be a riot – a confused warrior stops fighting to cry in the middle of battle ?!
Mooooar Humor on the battlefield Please!
how is it that a warrior or guardian with heavy armor can sprint faster than a horse….
and a mesmer with light armor moves like a tank ?
how is it that a warrior – melee class – knows magic to move fast and res lords over and over ? why isn’t the necro – who specializes in raising the dead doing that ?
how is it that confusion isn’t confusing at all – other than trying to figure out how to balance it ?
i agree, make the mesmer more interesting – confusion causes 5 allies to turn enemy / red – chaos causes ….that ..chaos.
and it makes no sense that we move so slow…we have LIGHT armor – it’s the warriors and guardians with that heavy armor that should be moving slow!! – people with light armor moving slow and people with heavy armor moving insanely fast is another rpg blasphemy!
I’ve yet to see a monty python movie where a knight with heavy armor can sprint faster than a horse.
(edited by Ricky.4706)
now THAT would be hilarious – for confusion to be just that …confusion – and the opponent’s allies turn red O.o
“dude, you killed our commander” – “I’m sorry man, everything turned red”
that’s where the tactics end and bug begins – waiting beyond inactivity time
that’s more in the tactic’s side though. what takes talent is getting out of the keep alive in time to make the portal and having everyone organized.
actually, staying dead that long does sound like an error – because inactive players naturally get logged off after x amount of time inactivity. But resurrecting through gates is a game mechanic
so this is a 2 part issue – rezing through gate is ok (providing it’s in line of sight – ie range 900-1200 and not through a wall – you have to actually see the corpse and your spell has to be able to reach it or touch the body to rez ), but staying dead for longer than inactivity time is an error.
(edited by Ricky.4706)
the idea is to capitalize on the issue with an rpg counter.
story based counters.
not only that …it would destroy all their armor ^.^
it’s not an exploit – if a person can raise someone from the dead – a necromancer – it’s a mechanic.
what you need is a skill that prevents bodies from being resurrected. such as burning a corpse. uses 10 supply. the players view turns dark gray and the res option doesn’t work after.
I almost wish I could do consulting with anet – I’d have elven cloaks in this game :p
(edited by Ricky.4706)
it really doesn’t seem like a problem, it seems more like a mechanic.
the rpg approach to this would be to have a spell called “Dispel Corpse” or even the option to burn a body. The fact that this game has a necro, would render any other fix improper.
(edited by Ricky.4706)
lol ….wvw is pvp gumbo haha!! -smh-
I’m really surprised that anet doesn’t understand the difference between competitive pvp and role play pvp. – and I don’t mean that like a dis, considering all the games they’ve reviewed according to their interviews.
heh, this is another example of pve-pvp vs competitive pvp – in pve /pvp – it’s dishonorable, in competitive pvp it’s brilliant :p
in pve/pvp – it’s about what players agree is fair – in competitive pvp – all the game allows is fair game
if it was everyone’s concern no one would be doing it ?
to be honest I’d enjoy both – and would probably spend more time in the pve version one for the adventure part of it – the problem as I see it is we have a mix of 2 types of pvp’rs – the casual adventure pvp’r and the competitive pvp’r in one map.
The purist approach is the only way to make maps both can be happy with. If you killed the hard edged competition – I wouldn’t feel this need to get the best stats asap – it would be more of an adventure about how my character grew in strength.
player run events are much more social and fun than straight up head to head competition. – rpg -pvp has head to head competitions …once a month maybe ? not every single day.
(edited by Ricky.4706)
imo – wvw should be 2 worlds -
1 what it is now without a score – making it a play as you like pvp environment – this can also double as a practicing area for the competitive version…..it’s more social and has more of the roleplay aspect.
2 – an spvp map with a cap for balance and an spvp locker. – minimal pve elements.
to favor one over the other is not good as each one is completely different and has it’s own audience – the pve version opens doors for innovative player created matches – the competitive one is simply that – a balanced fight with no pve elements.
(edited by Ricky.4706)
it’s probably my fault for bringing up the gvg event – but i thought it was important to my point of showing how people don’t need a computerized score to be competitive.
making a whole server work as one causes standards and the grind becomes inappropriate – its natural to want the best build with the best coverage for your team – if the whole server is a team and not everyone can keep up to that cookie cutter ascended warrior / guardian all day and night all maps full standard – it’s not true competition….it causes more stress and grief than fun because now in order to be accepted …you need to make a ________ and use a _______ and be rank ______ . ……it’s just a contest of who has the biggest kitten – not who has the best skillz.
- strangely enough I actually did mean kitten rofl
(edited by Ricky.4706)
I’ve been discussing this on other threads – I didn’t want to start it here because I wanted to refine how i explain it and 2nd it deals with what I think is the core issue.
When you add a score to the game – there is competition.
At this moment, imo – wvw is one of 2 things -
it’s either an epic pve area that allows pvp – but has no storyline
or
it’s a pvp arena – thats unbalanced in numbers – requires you to grind for equipment, and has too many distracting pve elements that detract from serious competition -
That said – adding a score will naturally cause people to want to take the easiest path to the win ….thus cause them to transfer to preferred servers for the best coverage. – if all servers had equal amount of wvw’rs, that point would be irrelevant – but not all servers have those number of people interested in wvw.
To fix this one of 2 things has to happen -
Either you remove the score – and allow it to be a full blown Pve area – that allows pvp – now while this seems to abandon competitive pvp – the truth is – when the scores don’t matter – people do their own 1 v1’s or as we saw people create their own gvg fights – these are small player run events that are played out on an open field – these are the role play stories that get posted play by play on forums – in this scenario there should be no computer generated score and these matches are run and judged by the players involved. Basically wvw would be a stage to play whatever strategy game you want – a deck of cards.
the 2nd way to fix it – is make it pure competitive pvp – which is to balance the numbers and add the sPvp locker to it – to remove the pve grind – in the pve format – the grind doesn’t matter because any competition is agreed to by players – so they can say no ascended weapons or any variety of rules.
when you added the score to the whole wvw match – everyone had to think as one – and no one has time to make unique events – they have to win as a whole – the player run events can’t happen. They ain’t got time for that. – the score kills the rpg – pvp storyline.
imo – simply balancing the server numbers is not going to the root of the problem – the fact is the game can be balanced by everyone simply transferring on their own right now – they can easily make this the pve side of pvp by ignoring a score and forming their own events – but the score is causing them to choose the easiest path to a win. It’s a natural consequence.
btw – i should also mention, that those guilds that formed the gvg in wvw – that was true rpg pvp. – it’s also the 1v1’s everyone says they want – based on mutual rules.
The RPG value of wvw – is the stories of gvg battles, 1 v 1 battles and people who got randomly jumped by thieves lol. When you put a score on wvw – you killed all those stories.
which btw, for anyone that doesn’t know – cloaks of elvenkind are the elite pvp’rs toy – only a handful of people had them …and i was one :p http://www.dandwiki.com/wiki/SRD:Cloak_of_Elvenkind
my real debate is that with all these changing runes and grinding for stats – it would be nice if you didn’t spend 60 gold on getting runes only to find out they got nerfed the next week – i mean seriously – this grind is so unwarranted. I left wvw for a while because I spent so much time sighing in my vault trying to get stuff I want for wvw – those stats mean everything to a pvp’r.
so i’d rather wait till it’s official and not changing before I find out I have to destroy all the gold and time I put into getting the equipment I wanted to pvp – than sit on a forum debating about how I feel done wrong. I don’t like complaining – bragging yes..complaining no.
exactly, but they are mixing it wrong, – and sure I get upset – I wanna kick kitten!! lol – i’m old school pvp and i’m so ready to fight lol!! – but if they are going to delete posts – there’s not much more to say and just move on. It’s a game – something we do for fun – we don’t get tax benefits for kicking kitten – we just get to laugh about how we turned each other into moas in the heat of battle.
there is a time for everything under the sun, if you complain, and no one listens – then you move on because you are on your own with fixes. if wvw doesn’t get fixed, I have to justify my non refundable investment. Like many other wvw’rs here …the appeal to me was the pvp and the awesome fights in world vs world – they are truly epic – I wont lie – but if I wanted to just pve – Dungenons and Dragons online is free and is based on the dungeon and dragon rules which is amazing all it’s own. Elven Cloaks FTW!! – I miss using them in pvp though and D&D doesn’t have pvp – else I would have been there long ago.
(edited by Ricky.4706)
I said it in the last thread that was deleted, but I’ll repeat it for the sake of the nice people in this thread – the game doesn’t hold me here, you guys do <3
the problem with wvw is that it is either a pve game that has pvp – but no story line
or
a pvp game that has pve grind and lacks balanced matches – this is not competitive
The score – is misleading but unfortunately many people are taking it too serious – and the pvp’r in me can appreciate their point because it’s a good setting for competition.
to fix this – you have to either
1 – delete the score – so the story can flourish – Players and guilds would then take it upon themselves to keep their own ladders / tournaments and scores that they can agree is fair and balanced. wvw has no right to judge a score in a pve environment.
OR
2 – add the sPvp locker and balance the matches so it can be a full competitive game mode.
The Problem is it is neither a complete pve environment that includes pvp with a storyline …..and it is not a legit competitive arena – sure you can compete but due to lack of balance and grind for stats, those scores are not correct – and it’s creating chaos.
I know for a fact this is right, because I’ve seen it work both ways before. wvw is incomplete and the scoring is misleading.
The GvG fights the players formed was not based on score – it was based on mutual agreement to rules – which had much more value than the current wvw scoring system.
i’ve given about 6 of them – now I’m finding a solution for myself….take the shiny and run.
choose your battles wisely, they want silence. No amount of eloquence in the world can reach a person that doesn’t care about what you have to say and would rather you shut up and pay …err play.
