the grind in this game is so harsh, that i refuse to spend any more money in it. I’m just going to finish building up my one character with whatever i found / earned in game so far and leave it at that so I can feel my money bought at least 1 decent character. even the purchased mining equipment is soulbound. Even gearing up this one mesmer as I’d like to is going to take another year – especially if they plan to grind the life out of me for ascended armor….this nosebleeder memser will need it for wvw… And this is my first character since the game started heh!! I have another level 80 thief, but im not going to bother with it. I started leveling a guardian and a warrior – but i’m going to abandon those too, i just can’t gear everyone up…at least not without living in the game and speed running dungeons like some deranged lunatic, which wont happen any time soon

Darkhaven is fine, we are having a blast training our LOYAL pve’rs and they are learning quickly. Darkhaven is very colorful now with all the legendaries floating on the map – and much friendlier than when we had the bandwagon guilds on it.

So you laugh here because this killing and damage thing is just a metaphor, a literal game. But for some reason single out “bullying” (whatever that means in a computer game, I’m not sure), and I’m assuming, trolling in general, namely the ones that are within ToC, as something really bad.

nice to see you place virtual characters on the same level as actual people in the game.

people have feelings, npc’s don’t. get that point ?

the commander title is alt unfriendly too – my server suggested that I should be a commander – but i’m stuck in a deep gold sink trying to make more level 80’s – gear them up …and get an ascended weapon for my mesmer. 100 gold is something a wvw doesn’t see for 1 character – let alone alt characters. Further mesmers are not a good commander class, so now I have to gear up a warrior or guardian and see which one I feel most comfortable with after I max them – the irony that someone devoted to wvw can’t afford to be a commander – I’m a merc – I belong to all guilds that need my assistance but no 1 guild in particular – in fact – I have a guild with just me as a member that I’ve been building to make a future wvw special ops guild – I joined many guilds but none that were pure wvw, and many just died – with people not even logging on anymore – when I saw how much glory I was giving to empty non wvw guilds – I decided it would be better spent on my own guild. – point is, being 90 percent wvw actually works against your wvw progression. the other 10 percent is when I either need a change, or need to focus on making gold so I can gear up for wvw.

the only thing that makes wvw lopsided is a score. without a score – we would have to figure out something we mutually agree is worth bragging about. winning because you have the most people with the most op build and can melt a group of 20 in seconds flat – despite your skill lag …is nothing to brag about.

Now talk to me about how you managed to hold off a 60 man zerg with 40 guys when all your walls and doors were down and the lord of your keep was dead – how did you pull THAT off ..do tell.

so if it’s a war game, we should have a united nations to keep the op servers at bay.

if like the leagues, we had color coded servers – we could fill fights by colors that include EU servers – they wouldn’t have to leave their servers to join the color coded fights – then the tides of beatdown will soon change.

but honestly, those huge fights aren’t fun – i really do enjoy the smaller fights over the bigger ones ……there are certain nuances to those fights that the bigger servers don’t have. – I don’t think they will ever understand it because some of those guilds are so big – they have no clue what it’s like to be mostly pug – heck, some of those servers forgot what it’s like to be outnumbered – let alone with the wvw ranks and skills coming into play… – completely different strategies and teamwork despite looking the same. You have 3 minutes or less to take a tower with a small team and defend it before a super zerg comes in – then jet across the map ….you think you understand what I mean…..but you don’t know what it’s like to not see anyone for a while …then suddenly being tracked…because you have soo many people …you are all over the place with big and small teams …… it’s the difference between sumo wrestling and kungkitten– sure …they are both fighting …but …. no…. I found the big servers stressful, and the small fights intense.

I don’t even know how they are getting achievements in t1 – even with our smaller groups everything just melts… before everyone can get the credit.

a realistic score for a wvw match would be – hey, me and the crew are all free this weekend….you up for a 5 hour fight saturday ? we can set up a match 100 vs 100 – highest score at the end of 5 hours wins!! then that score would matter – or multiple wvw fights based on increments – you have 30v30v30 map – 60v60v60 or 100v100v100 or x v x v x map that resets weekly or daily or set times. Then those server scores would matter because no one HAS to take on a number they can’t field. Heck, in that mode you could even make server alliance fights to have 2 or more servers team up as one color to take on larger servers. Maybe we should get rid of invidual server ranks ….and make it server colors – red vs green vs blue and servers are grouped up to share fights based on their color assignments – and it changes every month ……at the end of the year – each server is tallied for having been on the most winning color alliances.

but the coverage will never be balanced, not because of the game …but primarily 2 reasons – 1 of which that anet doesn’t disclose the exact que amount – so even if everyone wanted to spread out to equal numbers – this number isn’t known – and 2nd it’s human nature to take the easiest path to the quickest win.

I do like hardcore wvw – but when i joined the top server at the time, I felt like i walked into some online marine corp wanna be program – it was really stressful and long ques – stressful in that there were constant griefers from opposing servers trying to bring down morale in chat and waste supplies – and everyone barking orders as if everyone was a stepchild and this wasn’t a game……. but there are people that enjoy that headset – and apparently more of those than people that take things for what it is …a game ….they get upset because they just want to play a normal game for fun when they have a few hours – not everyone plays like that, some people are fighting to save the world from people who only want achievements ….the irony eh ?

if wvw was expected and intended to be unbalanced, then why add a score ?
- from this perspective the best score represents the most dysfunctional and delusional groups that insist on placing value on the score.

Perhaps it was part of a psychological experiment ?

the only mechanic imo that anet can put in is a power offset – if server a does 1 mil dps per 100 people, then that power value is distributed equally to the smaller server – otherwise there really is no way to balance wvw without putting it into spvp.

The irony that wvw is screaming to be an esport – and the spvp guys want a new map – but the wvw map isn’t in there. I have to believe there is a good reason for that.

As much as I rant and rave on the forum, I have to believe Anet has a good reason for what they’ve done – the platform is there to really make this game intense. There must be some logistical caveat that we are not aware of.

the difference in football is both teams have the same size, not a team of 150 vs 65

the solution would be to put the wvw map in the spvp area – and kill the scoring on the open world wvw – but no one seemed to like that idea because it would do serious blob control and actually be based on skill and fight sizes all servers can sustain.

want to fight a t1 server ? fine…just set the map to the max number the lower servers can provide.

and while we are at it, how about making exotic / ascended weapons alt friendly also – account bound – not soulbound – it’s unaffordable to test out different combinations of weapons – or for that matter have a collection of weapons I can change my builds with both with mats and vault space, I feel locked into one build for a main because, getting ascended, maxing and gearing up different characters is not easily affordable for people who mostly wvw – wvw doesn’t pay as well as pve – so while I can appreciate the balancing for pve players who can afford it – it’s denying pure wvwr’s of diversity.

And… It’s the truth – we’ve seen the pictures of 20 people on ruins in T1 servers- and most of the guilds that transferred up – trained in bronze servers – they left before they could learn courage. And I’m just tired of them talking like they are kings…..the bronze servers are what gave them any little strategy they have.

Much respect and love to bronze server players – yall have more game than t1 will ever know! Yall Never Quit no matter what the odds are!!

if the bronze servers all jumped on 1 server – we’d be t1’s worst nightmare. The T1’s would suddenly realize they are full of guilds that couldn’t take the heat of being outnumbered and when the going got tough, they ran to blob safety.

in smaller fights you actually have to think. you guys would be so wrecked vs the smaller thinking servers that replace blobs with strategy if we got your numbers. We don’t just say duh and hit empty doors like the t1’rs with skill lag do. Your skill lag wouldn’t even let you do such things. the lower tier servers had to actually learn how to fight to stand a chance of even playing wvw with the outnumbered buff. Something t1’s have zero experience in.

that’s the difference between pvp and pve builds….pve builds more on balance and defense – pvp builds more on offense – so you will see more spikes from a pvp character – usually at the expense of defense so IF you stay alive long enough – you may have been able to drop him quickly also – providing you set your stats offensively. This is why there is more personal skill involved – because you have to dodge and kite more and not stand there in a “who has better equipment” face off.

things just don’t die in pvp – they melt!!

as a side note – I’ve noticed the opposite can be true also, if you give up a lot of offense and really bump up your defense – it’s an inverse pvp strategy as well – for example…you give up power and trade it in for condition damage – which is usually connected to health or toughness – condition damage ignores armor and now you are hard to spike vs melee characters and you just bleed/burn/poison them to death quickly.

this build courtesy of all the new pve builds that surfaced in wvw – I have a physical spike damage build – and some of you are built to withstand major dungeon damage. – but you hit like a kitten, minus all the insane condition damage #@#$

you have to do significant damage to the guild lord to get those credits – if you get the drop from the guildlord, chances are you got the credit ….if you get no drop …then you didn’t contribute enough damage to count as an achievement. At least my theory because I’ve noticed it also.

the bigger score picture causes the t1 disease, need more manpower, need more coverage, need more strategy, need more quaggans moar moar moar!

if you farm the enemy for mats, you have more than enough. Forget the score, it will only stress you out because wvw simply can not be balanced in it’s current open world state.

our server has done that before, but it always backfires, – they form big guilds then suddenly want bigger fights and transfer out. We’ve had major alliances before, if the server loses once they blame it on coverage and leave. I’m thinking of starting a wvw themed guild – all asuran!! My goal is fun first, score 2nd – if you get too caught up on score then you get the t1 disease – but if you think of the enemy as badge bags – being outnumbered is a good thing!! lol

I can’t blame our opponents for teaming up on us, we are extremely violent in Darkhaven lol – we’d kill each other if it meant more mats and badges!

my dream – to get one massive server karma train that runs from temple to temple, then from borderland to borderland killing everything and anything that moves – it’s getting there too….yesterday before wvw – i ran to jormag – the crew there then ran and did the temples, then when they came back to La – they came to wvw took towers, and went to bl and took keeps – pve/p karma train extreme – just have to know where / when to find em. All pugs too, so it’s not like it depends on one guild to do it.

we are actually doing really good now – we just have a habit of getting both servers upset at us enough to team up against us lolol!! We have many of the strategies the bigger servers use – but not enough all out wvw guilds – we are more on the pug’ish side – hence the general concept of communicating like one big guild.

best way to explain – at least with us – is in game / real time – it’s how everyone else who went hardcore learned and we grew together – it’s a friendly server so it’s not hard at all to learn with us. It’s sort of a Darkhaven tradition actually – I remember when we were getting facerolled about 8 months ago – I made the Lord of the Rings speech, and since that point – we never run – we jump in face first – win or lose we give it all we got!! Heaven Help the T1 Servers if we ever train the numbers we need – we had to survive on strategy and are prepared to take it to a massive level without the blob!!

Darkhaven is full of survivors, and the best way to learn that is to jump in and survive as a team!

your best bet is to keep following the commanders, most of our commanders in Darkhaven are pretty good – what we need right now is more people – tonight we were just double teamed by both servers, we are holding them off pretty good – but it’s not the right match to teach offensive play – especially when we are constantly facing massive zergs from both servers – this is the perfect time to learn defense lol

learn to organize your guild into roamers – basically guys who roam the maps solo capping camps, and killing sentry points, knocking on doors to contest waypoints.. – they also double as scouts keeping the eye on enemy zergs …..then you have roaming teams – which usually consist of 5 players who help distract the enemies from where our zerg is at. The idea is to get everyone communicating and working as a team….from there as a commander you keep up with the news on the chat and keep your zerg moving fast capping points and moving to next spot – learn all the routes and short cuts as you want to get your team from point a to point b asap! Don’t go face first into a keep until you neutralize it’s siege….know when to face roll the enemy zerg and know when to be on the exact opposite side of a larger zerg….. you can not keep all your guys in one massive team because, we are a smaller server so we need more strategy and people keeping eyes on the enemy, while keeping our zerg mobile and ready to respond on all points. Learn when is the proper time to upgrade sm, and when you have to let it go so you don’t waste time defending something when you could easily be getting more points. – the name of the game is capping as many points as you can fast… you need to move like you drank a keg of redbull in 3 gulps!!

above all communicate intelligence and commanders need to discern where to focus the most damage to not waste time – more caps – more points.

I’m on darkhaven and I try to help in chat whenever I can with the above mentioned strategy. I’ve seen DH at it’s best, and at it’s worst, right now we have amazing potential for a great team because many of our pve’rs came to life – such as your guild, and that’s great – but training during the leagues – is like catching a ride on a train thats going 50 mph!! – Jump in, follow the commander – they’ll eventually ask someone else to tag up. = c u in game! Cheers!

ps – if you want more ingame info – just ask for the mesmer pirate midget with the parrot!

right now, building the strategic teams isn’t as easy as changing characters and gearing up for a specific strategy. It takes a long time to make a level 80 character and get the best stat weapons. so the spvp locker would actually bring that part of the strategy back into play – the rebirth of the iway or necro bomb team – but at a much larger scale.

for the sake of balance, the ascended grind is not great for pvp either. I’d like to be able to experiment with different builds, or change them for that matter to enhance strategy and compliment my current teams build. In effect it would bring the Trinity strategy back – as now we can shift the game by bringing more healing elementalists into the match quickly.

I don’t think so. it makes perfect sense and fixes a ton of issues. It’s just radical.

the more i think about this, the more I like it lol – because now events like the grub would mean more in wvw – the grub is ignored in balanced matches as pvp’rs don’t have time to waste on a pve element that doesn’t add to the score. The grub is only something to do in matches where you outnumber your opponents and want something to do after capping the entire map. But it is a pvp’rs dream to sneak up on a crew of pver’s fighting grubs lol. So it could, not only fix a ton of balance problems, but open new avenues of adventures in pve. A pvp/pve version of the zhaitan fight could be interesting to say the least. – but no server score since guesting would be allowed. Even guesting in wvw could change the adventure a great deal…but no score….just the achievement of fighting hard battles to get rare mats and achievements like any other dungeon. – in effect wvw would become a hot join dungeon.

also consider that if these servers are willing to pay for whole guild transfers – I’m sure they’d be happy to pay for having a mega que spvp map to hold huge fights that tax the servers. another win / win for arena net – they can make money for selling custom mega matches – and the super zergs can have their fights matched up as they want vs opponents that can gather those numbers – without the pvers eating up their que for achievements. With the best stats / builds they want from the lockers and no que. So that fixes the ascended items problem also. Then add guesting to pve version of wvw, and that fixes the balance problem as well.

you will also likely bring more life to pve – because now hardcore wvw’rs arent locked into a perma build specifically for wvw – I know that prevents me from pve’ng a lot since I tweaked my main just for wvw.

very simple solution – make an spvp version of wvw – and kill the scoring on the current wvw map. Done.

kill the score on the wvw maps – there are just too many variables to balance it.

Add the map to the Spvp arena – and allow the maps to range from a cap of 30 to an unlimited que like wvw – at least this will give smaller servers a chance to compete vs t1 servers on a map they can both fill…. and the blob guilds a chance to still have the mega battles they want…- then rate the server based on the outcomes of the Spvp matches. The current wvw area would then become a practice area for the spvp version of the map.

you will solve balance issues, give the pve’rs a place to warm up to pvp – make wvw into an area – no different than orr so pver’s can farm rare goods and achievements and pvp’rs can farm pve’rs for some pvp rank.

strategists will have a score they can be proud of, and pver’s will have an adventure they wont soon forget.

This way you will have your pve – pvp adventure you wanted in wvw – and your esport the wvw’rs want to compete in.

win / win.

i agree with that, thats why most of my debates tend to appreciate the game but feel frustrated vs competitive pvp – when I think of the game as dodgeball, it’s fun …you go into wvw to a fast paced game …..if it’s an unbalanced match …no big deal you just leave and do something else till the match resets.

If you want to compete and take the value of the score seriously well, that’s when the fun leaves and it becomes frustrating because there is no real way to keep a balance. too many variables to consider skill a deciding factor in a win.

Kill the score in wvw , and it will be a fun new pvp adventure in a pve area.

Add the score, and you are insulting serious strategists.

Honestly, with some of the basic no no’s the game has vs pvp’rs…. I just don’t think Anet understands the pvp format. I think they are amazing programmers / game designers – but they just don’t understand the pvp culture. I honestly believe they would fix it, if they knew how.

if you really want to understand the heart of pvp – play a game of chess. wvw is a chess board with chess pieces – the problem is one team has 10 rooks 15 knights, 23 bishops and 2 kings, while the opposing team has a zerg of 150 pawns and 1 queen.

I hate to say this, but I’m beginning to accept that gw2 is simply not a good platform for serious competition. While it has potential, and is fun, there are simply some fundamental flaws that turned a game of chess (Gw1 ) into a mix of dodgeball and checkers.

I predicted that it would be a number 1 game, but I am now also predicting with confidence that these blob / zergs won’t be a long term problem as eventually there will not be enough serious pvp’rs in the servers to form big blobs, and wvw will eventually be owned by small gvg groups – and even then it won’t be serious competition because matchups are not player controlled. I give it a year.

Fact remains, that ascended items do infact give an advantage , how ever slight or grand, it’s an advantage – in the right hands it’s a very good advantage. To say slight advantages are nothing big, is to say those 1% bonuses in the wvw rank / traits panel are useless. Basically you are saying Anet added useless stats to wvw.

whether I get hit by a Volkswagen or a Mac Truck – I got hit by a vehicle., the difference is I have less of a chance of surviving getting hit by a Mac Truck.

Same concept applies with ascended items, there is a better chance you will die faster when facing ascended weapons.

WvW really allows no purpose in rolling anything less than a Warrior or Guardian in full Ascended gear because the stats and imbalances justify it.

if i can drop the enemy 2 seconds faster, I’m happy with that – a team of 40 in full ascended gear would make it 80 seconds faster.

It depends what perspective you want to look at it from ….. it is important to drop 1 enemy asap and move on. It’s not logical to take on a whole zerg with 1 person, so that comparison is irrelevant. – but it is logical for an entire zerg to take out a small group of people asap.

I remembered in gw 1 being frowned upon because I only had a +2 rune , not a +3 – I told em it shouldn’t be a big deal, they made me leave the team to go buy one lol ….it actually was a big deal, especially with the earth elemental spikes.

all the little 5 here …1 there and +1% crit – then add the infusions, in 6 items is a big deal.

well, I do know I want to test that theory and encourage my whole server to get ascended – hence my push for pver’s turned wvw – in all the time i’d waste ranting about it in the forum, i’d rather have the most op character with the most op items with op team members so others can complain about how op my server is, then we can move on to complaining about how they killed all that work and effort we put into being op, and how it just got nixed from wvw unjustly lol – something to do I guess.

people rage quitting, starting threads hatin on us, posts getting deleted because they accuse us of hacking or exploiting, non stop discussions about how we constantly faceroll them, it will be fun!

the game is fine, the people aren’t. I think it would be better for them to get bored of skill lag, long ques and lack of any equally sized competitor, than change a great / fun game because some people insist on chewing chess pieces and putting them in their diapers.

Give them time, I think eventually some of them will get the idea and grow out of wanting moar power than common sense.

if you really want to balance the servers and cut down on the zerg, make the lag so bad that any small server can go out on the field and shoot them – they’d just be badge bags running round on the map that can’t hit anything. Just isolate the lag to their fat servers.

Just don’t ruin the game for the rest of us because a few neanderthals can’t play normally.
