yep, exactly. Right now wvw is like trying to mix a game of dodgeball and chess with a straight face lol.

transferring to win is not the way – expecting people to transfer to balance is not a logical solution either because they wont have any way of evaluating what would be a fair distribution of guilds – and even that wouldn’t work because it would be based on people wanting to play fair…..there’s always “that” guy!!

stacking a server to win is the team with the dodgeball and smaller servers are the fat kid trying to play chess. No, just..No!!

random teams like fort aspenwood from gw1 – instant balance, no more spies, no more que’s, no more need to transfer ^.^ – no more praising a score that is meaningless. win a match – get a cookie. done.

the roleplay solution – burn the corpses – unable to res – all armor would be destroyed need repair after. ( you risked a slick move and took a heavy loss for a fail )

The third person shooter – non roleplay – quake / fps solution – a dead player should have the same inactivity time out / kicked out of wvw for doing nothing like a living player.

They DO have the timer. The exploit is swapping your gear, which resets that timer.
The fix should be to keep dead bodies in combat, but able to waypoint.

to address the exploit, just disable those keys during death.

heck, even in a roleplay solution, the body would decay – so an appropriate penalty is that more of your armor gets damaged per minute you don’t waypoint. death is first armor damage – each minute that you don’t waypoint – another part of your armor get’s damaged as well. that’ll fix em! lol

That upsets me even during regular game play to be honest, you know that guy that went way too deep, but instead of going to a way point and coming back – he sits there waiting for the rest of his crew to pull through – meanwhile we become more shorthanded from these guys just sitting there – and losing more players trying to res them.

so I agree with addressing this aside from it being used as an exploit.

exactly – guilds are stacking and giving value to an invalid score as if wvw is gvg – its not.

It’s gw1 fort aspenwood on a much larger scale. That worked great in gw1. trying to stack guilds in 1 server is not great – because there aren’t enough guilds that big to make it gvg.

it’s not a matter of what “I” want – it’s a matter of whats best for balancing the game for everyone.

a guild of 300 should not be vip over 1,000 pug players.

wvwvw would serve better as a glorified version of gw1’s fort apsenwood fights – than this big unbalanced gvg arena that it is now.

this is another perfect example of server loyalty vs strategic gaming – or rather chess vs dodgeball.

Keeping sm is more about pride – recapping sm is more about tactics and points.

Unless you have enough people to defend sm – you are only wasting time and awarding the enemy extra points, because if they are big enough – chances are they are taking your land while keeping you stuck in sm defending. you are better off speed capping to get more shinies and wxp.

now if you want to balance that kind of game – what you do is play dodge ball – while moving like a chess piece. it would still be a bit of a mess – but more organized than slamming the ball on a chessboard – which is the equivalent of transferring to win.

Hence, a random log in so big wvw guilds can’t stack one server. Them being organized isn’t the problem – them having too many numbers in one server is that dodgeball being slammed on a chessboard.

That’s the cause of imbalance. its not good to play dungeons and dragons using quake rules. That’s like trying to mix dodgeball and chess – i mean sure …you could try…but…. lol.

a chess club is a team of people that when not traveling to battle other chess clubs – are battling each other. Most of wvw players love pvp – it’s more fun to fight a friend, than team up with him to beat up random people.

There is a whole psychology that is missing from the gw2 rpg that’s causing a serious imbalance.

it’s good that some people are loyal – it’s evil to abandon your people for an easy win.

But there is no chaos. chaos is the philosophy of balance.

pure chaos would make being a spy and bandwagoning a thing of the past.

Leave guilds for pve. wvw – random server log ins.

Your guilds serve no purpose to the guildless other than dungeons.

the way gw2 is set up now, makes it impossible for me to make my preferred alignment guild – which is a guild of chaos – in my guild we like fighting each other as much as teaming up to fight other guilds.

Have you ANY idea how many interesting fights aren’t happening because all these big guilds are clumping together to pounce on smaller guilds. ??

Its wrong, VERY wrong!! -wiggles fingers- Chaos will fix it!

Trust me, you will have more fun finding your guildies in sm as enemies. Chaos is good for you.

release your inner beast – don’t tell me you never wanted to smack a guildmate for making bad moves in wvw. let’s be honest here.

i figured out the perfect fix – Completely kill the guild system and have all characters log into random servers everytime – This will bring total chaos to organization – and make me and my roleplay very happy. It will Balance out the servers once and for all being that now Anet can rotate populations as they please. This will compliment the people who transfer at a whim.

I care about your guilds as much as you care about my server loyalty.

Chaos for the win!

yeah, we should kill the guild system to match the failed server loyalty.

Random servers for everyone, the game is half chaotic – we should make it completely chaotic so people can understand the value of roleplay. When that happens I will have a blast roleplaying and all of gw2 will be my guild.

because it’s an rpg game – a role playing game and the server isn’t called …. 155239
it has a name.

the roleplay value of the game is being killed by people who play it like quake. I place fault on anet on this one for not making being on a particular server mean anything.
The game currently has zero role play value other than buying an outfit and talking about peoples mom in lions arch lol.

guildwars 2 does NOT have a game master. The closest thing we have to a game master in gw2 is the Mad King – and that’s hardly a game master, but people react to it. Even further when people tried to organize role play events – the events were chastised. – wiggles finger-

gw2 is more of an mmofps game than a mmorpg, and that’s why people think server transfers are irrelevant.

Best fix would be just have everyone log into a random server – kill guild loyalty too so we can be in complete chaos – pure pug – not being loyal to any guild would make that very fun to ME!! Forget your guild – I don’t care about them – I just want to kill stuff – it fits my mercenary role play. Pure Chaos!!!

winning should not be about which server has the most coverage and transferring over.

winning should be about how much you contributed to the fight – being outmanned should have a greater value than attacking 10 guys with an army of 100. The winner should be a legend for facing impossible odds with courage – the lore should be about that guild or people….

A fight doesn’t have to happen to know that there is a 99.999% chance that the 100 man army will walk all over the 10 man army. There is always a chance of some crazy power outage disconnected the 100 man army. for the week.

The fights are unbalanced, but the winner should be the underdog to counter act that.

a courage ladder would have more value than a roflstomp ladder.

only in a balanced fight is a courage based ladder moot.

in an rpg world, us chaotic neutrals are against anyone having absolute power – absolute power brings absolute corruption – transferring to win, is a conduit to that kind of power – so the rules of winning must be changed.

this has nothing to do with anyone being greedy, it has to do more with looking at the real issues. The transfer prices will only affect people who aren’t serious about wvw and will not fix the balance issue.

The imbalance is due to the fact that you can transfer to win. Let’s tackle the cause.

Let’s redefine what winning means.

i’m seeing a trend -

it seems casual wvw’rs favor the “score isn’t much to me, i don’t only wvw, so price will affect my choice, these guys are rude and the ques are long so i’ll transfer down”

the hard core player favors making it easy to transfer up “4 packed servers would be sweet, just remove a few empty servers”

the hard core players loyal to their server “break up the t1 so they can’t roflstomp us”

the people in t1 “haha, as if i plan to move, just fix the kitten que, skill lag, filter out the pve players and I’m good”

anet is like “yeah, transfers are good, i like this subject.”

and I’m like “facepalm”

yeah, the spy griefing is annoying – but on the same hand maybe each transfer can have a penalty as Devon pointed out – you can wvw but you can’t chat in wvw mode, or lay down siege, or see the commanders tag for a week. – that’s the only thing I can think of that would circumvent the spy issue without overly penalizing a legit player. “At least I can play”

Griefing may still happen to a lesser extent with teamspeak and a person calling out the oppositions movements – but being out of chat will give them less power to interfere and not be informed for the week of the event – thus making the whole spy game much less fun and more of a job. spying does exist as part of rpg – but it’s unrealistic to think that it’s as easy as flying out to your enemy and just wasting their supplies and demoralizing them as if no one is going to shoot you for it.

In a roleplay sense transferring should have a more dramatic impact on the player – if you suddenly move to another country in the opposite side of the earth – it’s not as easy as just getting up and leaving, and heading to work the next morning after you move. Transferring to another server should have the same impact as a person moving to another country. Things like wxp loss – you can’t transfer to a foreign military enemy and expect them to respect your rank as general, that would be even more painful if it was an account wide perk from your server.

gw2 is an rpg game, the solutions should be rpg based with rpg value.

In the end it’s all math – and wvw is a type of simulation – a spy is a job – but not an easy one – if that’s the life you choose – you better be prepared to pay dearly to live it.

It could be a fun mechanic too – like when a person joins a server – they can choose being a spy and new spying tools are created for it – if they are caught, they log on their server like an enemy and have to figure out ways to sneak out on the field lol. They would have to avoid wvw for a week after reset to rejoin the game as an ally.

it doesn’t have to be a problem and can be an rpg mechanic since there is obviously an audience share willing to give up playing normal to do it.

you need to address the issue that causes people to stack to begin with – score.

The score is the heart of the issue – score the guilds, and the individual hardcore wvw guilds will balance themselves out to get better guild ratings.

you need to break up those massive huge guild alliances – and make it to their own individual best interest to spread out for a higher guild rating.

i don’t know, I think people would love doing something till they are accepted in que,

I know often when I’m in que and I start finding something else to do, the enter option comes up at the most inconvenient times – at least the spvp matches will keep people entertained in a pvp theme kind of way – rather than sit staring into space in la – or doing something like a personal story and getting the “BL is ready” message when you are almost finished – you really don’t want to kill the event you are almost done with for the que and you really don’t want to re-enter the que. – the current que system is very counter intuitive.

Changing transfer costs will NOT change anything.

I agree- in fact this is so out of touch as a solution, I’m forced to believe one of 2 things, either staff in alt names are discussing this to see how we’d react or they are pve’rs.

people in que should be transported to an 8 v 8 v 8 spvp match – losers wait, winners go in game :p the opponents would be people from the other servers in que also – so you fight for your right to be in wvw , scrubs get least priority and end up spending more time in spvp trying to win the right to get into wvw. ^.^

Guild Ranking system - why not ?

each server gives out x amount of guild xp per match per active guilds in wvw – the more coverage and guilds a server has – the more they have to share in the xp pool with bonus xp for outnumbered disadvantages.

The less coverage a server has, the more xp each server gets to share – this giving guilds on low ranked servers a chance to be recognized as the best for putting up the strongest fights vs difficult odds – que the guild ladder. stacked server guilds will naturally be lowest on the ladder for choosing the most populated servers. They will naturally get less xp due to having to share it with so many people and other guilds…

guild xp can function like wxp ranks but on a guild level – the higher in rank your guild is in wvw – the more features, bonus stats, siege, and powers your guild has to help them do well in their respective server – the longer a guild has been on this server – the more bonus xp they get.

The value of the Guild ladder / ranking will be far greater than the value of the server ranking.

advantages could be things like cheaper and faster upgrades to towers, keeps and camps, lower cost and quicker standard guild upgrades, – better magic and gold find, more powerful siege with specific skills that can only be unlocked with guild xp – special ascended level weapons and gear with guild banker. and more… even vendors that sell special skins only available to certain rank guilds…

i’m sorry, the guys discussing adjusting prices for transfers must be pver’s because hard core wvw’rs buy gems just to get more siege because there is no real gold to be made in wvw. The guilds are buying / paying the way for other guilds – what makes you think that adjusting prices is going to balance the servers ? seriously ? these guys care about 1 thing and one thing only, winning – even if they have to pay for it.

“Im in the biggest server with the best coverage and rank but I should transfer to the lowest server with worst coverage and worst rank so I can save 20 dollars on a transfer” – said nobody ever!

diminishing returns – the larger the alliance of big guilds on one server – the less the returns to individual guild rankings. that saying, introducing a guild ranking system around that school of thought may change the game some – after all the only thing important to a guild willing to abandon their server in the first place is the score.

Grab them by the score and rate their guilds with diminishing returns for being clumped up. a triple a guild should have to fight a triple a guild for guild xp – ranks – just like in pve – you need to fight a monster your level or higher to level up.

that would not only cause the guilds to spread out – but may encourage massive transfers among that crowd trying to organize fights vs people they need to level up lol – would be funny and generate tons of cash as a result of them trying to balance out the servers for optimal guild ratings – smaller guilds will have to merge with bigger guilds – and big guilds will have to find servers with no big guilds. it’d be great!

would cause total chaos and mayhem with the bandwagon guilds haha!! woot!

how is scaling transfer costs going to fix anything when you have servers willing to pay for guilds to transfer ? – that path is moot.

what you need is to give guilds incentives to compete against each other – not stack and compete against the rest.

It should be of greater value for the best ranked guilds to fight the best ranked guilds for higher ranks – you won’t get that if the incentive to win is having the most coverage with the best ranked guilds teaming up to fight pugs and smaller guilds- the people that stay behind on lower servers because they aren’t as militant about wvw as the t1 minds are.

you need to break up those big alliances and make them call off all bets because they need to fight each other to get anywhere higher up. That will balance the servers more than something an alliance of guilds is willing to chip in for to get a mutual win.

major guild alliances should be detrimental to your individual guild ranking score.

at this point there is nothing i could receive from a season win achievement that would compensate for the chaos that’s become of wvw – serious, they could give me a whole set of ascended armor, weapons, trinkets and a unique 1 of a kind pet monkey… and i still would trade it in for a balanced game.

rewards, achievements, not on my important list – i’m just trying to grind the gold i need to make my one ascended weapon and hope they fix the game issues.

win a mini doylak and in 2 weeks you’ll forget you even have it. win ascended gear, it does nothing for alt characters.

i know i’ve been seeing a ton of stealth lately as well – but i saw it was due to thieves and memser veils – I’ve seen the disappearing downed state as well – they simply vanish before you can finish them.

after watching the forum for a few months, unfortunately it’s not worth reporting suspected hacks anymore – in the end your thread gets deleted, gives you warnings and you wind up getting in trouble and labeled paranoid – at this point you have to let the situation get worse before it gets better. hacks 1 – normal players 0

sorry to hear that, it sounds like you are one of the guys that belongs in Darkhaven with us friendly fun loving folk. I experienced what you said in another server – so I decided the social aspect of gaming was more important to me than winning an unbalanced fight. It makes all the difference in the world and brings the game to life. We don’t want people born to win wvw – we want normal players that enjoy a game, are patient with each other. loyal and willing to learn and support their server mates.

would love to see you and “the best people you can ever play with” @ Darkhaven.

you should guest in our server so you can see what I mean

a slow and steady stroll to success is more fun than a rush to win.

I haven’t really been paying attention to it to be honest, I’ve been so focused on getting my ascended weapon – and if you take the leagues serious and see the outnumbered buff – it’s upsetting, Lately when i find myself too frustrated with stuff, i just log off and do a rant post on the forum of whatever upset me that night lol. – most recent is the skill lag and disconnects in pve. – let’s see what kittens me off tonight heh!!

The new people in wvw was actually a pleasure – but again if you focus on the score and the leagues – you wish they just learned months of stuff in one day – so another reason to not think about it.

basically…. "What leagues ? " lol

like i said in my earlier post – the servers are symbolically like countries -

if i said your country sucks, it’s corrupt, full of losers, and it’s education system creates idiots, everyone on your server is lazy and fat, they sound and smell like sniveling orcs, why do you even bother ? that’s different ? you’d agree and just say, “yeah, but we got the blob” -snort snort snivel snivel- ?

if there is no server pride – then why can’t t1 servers admit they are just fat and need massive round the clock coverage to compensate for their lack of skill ? why do they insist they have this amazing strategy when none can compete due to their overpopulated servers ?

if there is no server pride- then what I just said shouldn’t bother anyone. ^.^

not saying I mean any of this, but I am saying everyone has server pride one way or another. :p

i wouldn’t say server vs server is a failed concept , as much as competitive pve is a failed concept – which is what wvw basically is.

From the research I’ve done so far in rpg pvp – they are trying to simulate real life war …and real life warfare is not fair – so the outcome is already per-determined – biggest military wins. that’s not competitive – that’s history.

not so in darkhaven – I really appreciate the darkhaven community – you can count on them to heal you when you are down, you can count on them to be patient in teaching you how to run a dungeon or win a fight in wvw – they taught our pve community to fight effectively in roughly 2 1/2 weeks – you can count on them to be willing to die 1,000 times with you in wvw – win or lose we have fun.

They may not be in wvw all the time, but they are my family. The people that complain about not winning, don’t last and all we are left with is fun loving people – that is actually a good thing.

Don’t fall asleep on us, we are a very tight community and when we decide to go all out wvw ….we will kick your kitten!!

the server pride imo is what adds to the rpg value of the game and prevents it from becoming just another fps shooter game. It’s really supposed to be guild pride – but being that servers are being graded – the server substitutes the individual guild.

if this were a real war…then the servers would be countries – and everyone is moving to the country with the biggest military.

apparently whats happening is this is more of a true to life simulation, but at the cost of pace and enjoyment of players.

would you stay in a country with a weak military involved in a world war ?

the top servers could be considered the equivalent of the US, Russia and China

I was doing a bit of research on the topic – and thought I’d toss this out there in hopes to help balance the pvp in this game – so far gw2 is the only game I’ve seen that offers the potential for serious strategic wargaming – all other games look like a branch of quake or starcraft to me ( except one that I found that shows promise )……..I thought I’d share….

miniature wargaming seems to be at the root of all modern rpg – pvp

I was studying it yesterday- first you have grinding for stats – then you have the power gold sink – spores are going for 2 silver and torment sigils are going for 4 gold – easy money – when my server goes to wvw – they are armed to the teeth – they are actually smart and fun. The “hardcore” guys will eventually find themselves naked because of the current structure…….- and while I was skill lagging and disconnecting in kessex hills – an announcement was made about scarlets minions – when farming spores – they constantly spawn opposite sides of the map …so you are running back and forthe like a loon keeping up with them, ( wasting silver on wp mind you ) – then the scarlet minion announcement causes you to do the same thing ….it’s causing havoc and a major lack of focus

point being – anet is offering so much – it’s making everyone dizzy trying to keep up – add to this some of the events only last a certain time …so some players want to get that achievement before it’s gone – and I can’t blame them because some of the items offered there are pretty cool – cool for pvp …..

by the time our server gets to focus on wvw – we steamroll the enemy in top gear.

just because our servers don’t wvw / pvp 24/7 doesn’t make any less qualified pvp’rs.

fighting wvw isn’t rocket science and the elitists that totally write off pve better not whine about casual servers being way better geared for pvp than they are, because that’s the current state of the game.

there are more casual players and pve’rs than there are elitists – THEY are the vocal minority – not the wvw players as a whole. Most of our wvw’rs were actually out farming spores lol. -throws hands up in air- I’d rather be patient with our pve/wvw’rs than elitists.

each server has what ..max 150 wvw’rs ..considering there are only 3 stacked servers – thats only 450 elitists -the hand- there are more casual servers than elitist hijacked servers. Fact!

the no loyalty guys are the same ones that helped ruin hall of heros in gw 1.

they deserve their place in gw 2 because there is an audience for that, but no way do they deserve to be put up on a mantle and praised for being anti social.

I hate to say this, but unfortunately the same thing that happened to hall of heroes is happening to wvw – for some reason they kept changing and changing it till it was a ghost town. – as much as I love wvw – I find myself doing the same thing I did in gw 1 after they ‘fixed’ hall of heroes – and no one under rank 12 could play. I’m pve’ng alone…and i’m already getting sick of it.

It’s the same exact pattern. I’d rather they shut down wvw completely than have to go through this again- i use to really enjoy hall of heroes before it became elitist guild only. I got stuck in aspenwood as the only place to pvp because even the random pvp was people just people quitting and bots …..if it doesn’t change i’m just going to leave this time – already scoping out another mmo they said is great for pvp – i just can’t do another few years of this downward spiral.

I’m trying my best to suggest ideas i know work – but really at the last drop of my patience. trying to hang in there as much as I can….but every night i log off disappointed that it’s not the game i hoped it would be.

Hacking in WvW?

the video i saw actually showed the panel and was giving a walkthrough. I’m guessing it’s unlisted because I tried searching for it on youtube and didn’t see it.

hacking has been a part of pvp since it came online – when pvp first came online there was a roleplay of good vs evil – the evils were usually the hackers and i know my team won the final elite pvp tournament because our opponents were teleporting lol. Unfortunately as long as it can be done, it will be done. – it’s a game among the evils to not get caught, the staff knew about it and roleplayed even the tos.- in the game i’m referring to, they sent your character to an in game jail after you were caught – basically you had one area to exist and I think there were npc’s there so harsh that you had to delete and start over. It’s part of the rpg-pvp culture. – some people want to win out of skill, others want to win out of being clever. With them, their prize is about not being caught. lol. They didn’t need items because they hacked them in, so they needed to be recognized for something.

I can almost guarantee you that if this game ever introduced alignment – the people willing to cheat would be more than proud to align themselves as evil ! hehe

i’m willing to bet that whomever created ad&d didn’t create a game, as much as reveal human nature and has it’s roots in psychology studies.

My alignment is chaotic – neutral – I can’t call myself good, but I can’t consider myself evil either.

Trust me when I tell you that a cheaters favorite key phrase is “Prove it!” – it’s literally part of the game that you will drive yourself nuts trying to prove it lol. People actually became famous because of it lol.

catapult battles,
treb vs treb battleship –
gauntlets of who can get past the most siege without dying – with guild sponsored prizes –
the sm ball – a place where people eat, dance, drink and fight…..
all asuran midget wrestling…

a play of how sm was first taken from zhaitan minions

It doesn’t have to be a karma train in open world wvw. It’s a land rich for story telling and become an actual living world with players creating unique activities and roleplay.
