that just made me think, that instead of giving a character slot in the pack, it should be enough gems to cover a character slot, because if this peaceful negotiation idea works and we get an even better deal at launch….the prepurchasers will be treated unfair….and that can be easily fixed with gems, than getting extra slots they may have already purchased and not need.

part of my agenda with this thread is to show that we are not simply stats on a paper, but the Guildwars audience is actually a strong culture.

It would mean something to me to prove this by having a healthy negotiation. something for the history books. I knew gw’s great grand parents before even blizzard. I played this genre when it was first introduced to the net. I owe it to them :p

but if they are under the gun from ncsoft, that wouldn’t be good for them….so we have to respect their price line in consideration for their well being and operating expenses. I highly doubt they would come flat out and say it that way. I’m simply giving them the benefit of the doubt.

it does us no good to get a price reduction and then have ncsoft announce next year they have to shut it down because it isn’t a sustainable business model.

I created this thread, to see what others would would want to be happy with the expansion. A peaceful, reasonable and friendly discussion, no flame wars.

If you are already happy with the expansion, please don’t debate, as is I think you should get a white robe with zero defenses for wvw so we can admire your loyalty which is more than what you already got, you are not forgotten or overlooked. If you must post, then post what you think is too much and unfair for anet.

Let’s assume that they are under pressure from NCsoft to keep investors happy, so let’s respect the price they set.

Further, in contemplating all this, I think Anet should offer an Anet banner in the shop for people who simply want to put up a flag in the new guild hall to support anet and help them meet their quarterly quotas …..the more you purchase it, the more gold the flag becomes or something. This could be an ongoing fund raiser, that those who can afford it, help chip in.

that’s why my friend, it’s really just code, but it’s also a memory. These mini’s, free slots -code them gold or something- mean something to people. Not just me, i’m kind of sad that i refused to get excited about the game, if I had stuck to my path, I just wouldn’t have posted.

ahh, so you weren’t there for the hacked orbs in wvw….that was a horrible experience. Luckily Anet fixed it. wvw still has issues, but not as many since the start.

I think it’s awesome you saw the nice parts of guildwars, – search a video on youtube where supposedly an Anet employee suicided one character for hacking in the pvp event. It’s been a mess, and as vets we’ve done our best to hold it down as peacefully as we could.

new players can get up to 6 new character slots, and vets get zero ? what ? serious ? no.

this just dawned on me, if we are getting a free vanilla account with the expansion, that means we are getting 3 free slots if we installed from scratch. if you already have an account, you should get those 3 slots. solved.

I’m also g1, from 1st month of release.

If i could gift the free account that came with the expansion, or even make a 2nd account while keeping my main upgraded …that would be nice.

I use to get super excited in gw1 with expansions, I remember once traveling many miles just to get a magazine that had a special code for an ingame item that was an expansion pack promotion….. somehow this time around, i’m kind of happy where I’m at now. I hope those that rush to get it, have a ton of fun, i look forward to watching the youtube videos.

I just came back from reading recent glassdoor reviews – and I must say as a customer I’m feeling much of the feedback people are leaving.

I’ve been on a production teams myself, and know what it feels like to work long hours, under that insane kind of pressure and not even get acknowledged or appreciated.

While there are things I really am not enjoying about the game, I can say with confidence, it’s the very talented developers and their artists work that keeps me coming back. Your work shines through all the corporate nonsense imposed on you, and I think it’s only fair to point that out.

Without your work, this would not be a fun place at all! Next time management gets you grumbling, remember that we the numbers on those nonsense corporate charts appreciate your hard work and realize some things are out of your hands.

It’s not like we have enough players to fill up enough servers to keep the fights interesting every week. The majority of the wvw players are leaving, the minority doesn’t want it to change but say it’s broken. Is the problem with wvw really the game ?

also, for the idea of being a patriot to your server, think of it like this ….

a guild simply travels and conquers any land they fight. Their guild is their country, not their server.

@OP: This would be the death of WvW… even more than it is already dying.

I believe it would greatly improve the situation to be honest , it would take the stress of ranking a server number 1 – and place more emphasis on highlighting strong wvw guilds.

Say for example 1 guild has 1 million wvw rank points accumulated from all members- that would be a more credible title that would have to be earned than
simply transferring to a winning server.

All anet would have to do is make it where when a wvw guild member joins a wvw fight, the megaserver would put them in any server their other guild members are on.

This would also bring wvw closer to the title – guild wars. It will never be organized like gvg, but it would give credibility to top guilds …while keeping all fights full. This would also improve wvw overall, because people can learn new and different tactics from fighting with a variety of guilds.

I tried EOTM , wasn’t crazy about it simply because it felt more like a running game.

I run run run, find a big fight …have a few minutes of fun, die …run run run………that’s also what makes wvw less fun when it’s empty, i enjoy the strategy and challenge, but when your server can only host 1 zerg …….you spend more time running trying to catch up to 1 fight than fighting….unlike bigger fights where mini fights are breaking out all over

which basically means that a new customer would have to pay extra to transfer to a server with enough people to have a big fight, after they find their servers have little to no population that play wvw.

it’s been 2 years already, and nothing has balanced it, it’s still the random lag for the top tier, hit or miss balanced fights for all tiers below.

In GW1 – fort aspenwood was a blast – and those were always random.

Don’t get me wrong, I hear where you guys are coming from, but at this point we can’t expect servers to want to balance fights – it’s completely hit or miss in the lower tier servers …and quite honestly I enjoy my server, but it kind of stinks that fights go from being severely outnumbered for weeks ….to stretches of pvdoor.

In beta ….it was just a ton of people going at it ..and it was a rush – while there was some organization, in the end it was just one massive pug mixture of guilds and random players tagging along.

There has to be some sort of middle ground where we can have strategy, and full fights.

for example, mega server that automatically pulls you into where a guild member may already be fighting. This way you can have organization, and every player has a chance to join a large battle. Guilds should be feared, not servers.

please correct me if I’m wrong, but isn’t one of the selling points of guildwars 2, large epic battles ? not everyone can experience these epic battles unless they join 1 of what ..6 servers ?

I’m thinking, if wvw was simply qued, beyond server vs server – it would make wvw fun again….wvw was a blast in beta – there wasn’t anything about joining the largest server, it was more about joining a big fight and discovering something new. it seems the problem is that wvw has naturally taken on a gvg approach – but on a server scale.

By simply queing up to enter a random wvw fight – everyone would have a chance to join a big fight – which from a product standpont should be a feature available to every customer – no matter what server they joined.

and another solution should be independent of wvw to fill the guild vs guild – this should actually be in the pvp area, where it can be more controlled. if you want to rank a guild on wvw – simply total up their wvw points as a guild and give em a gold star or something. wvw needs the mega server approach to balance things out and make it more fun / versatile again.

You’d also probably make more sales creating custom maps for gvg friendly fights (which have wvw options ) – and you’d probably have more control with lag by making all wvw fights optimal sizes – no que’s because each person is joining a random fight. The scores only really reflect who has the most coverage / population – so you wouldn’t lose anything historically relevant.

you know it’s in bad shape when after 100 posts, not one person is saying “WvW is great just as it is” – at one point you couldn’t say nothing about nothing without someone jumping down your throat. Unfortunately, my predictions are coming true. Ironically, the biggest indicator was how they treat everyone on the forum.

The art is great though, i have to give them that.

I’ve been easing off the game myself at this point, which is ironic because I just got my ascended weapon. The game itself, is insanely fun, the art is great and visually rich. The rules are atrocious and feel very punishing as opposed to challenging. From this I’m guessing some of the developers / programmers are probably getting tormented with us and are really not to blame for the chaos in the game, else you would see it in the quality. I’m pretty sure there is 1 person or a small clique making the rules this ‘painful’ at this point. No developer in their right mind would make such amazing battle grounds – then encourage inbalanced fights, or unfair logistics… that just doesn’t make sense. That would be like picasso making a beautiful painting then tormenting people who want to see it. I’m sure developers are suffering also because they are taking slack for something that isn’t their call.

well, I’ll pose this question to you, what game would you consider more successful, a game that has a forum loaded with threads that have complaints ….or a game that has a dead forum with maybe 1 or 2 discussions ?

I’m pretty sure the complaining will die down over time though.

if anything, it’s made me numb to wvw – I play it now like another quest – I don’t feel inclined to get excited about it anymore ….which in the end is better for me because I don’t want to feel like “I HAVE TO” anything in this game. You can’t take it serious else it goes against why we buy games ….to have fun.

Disempower the game and you will have more fun and play however, whenever and don’t feel bad when you miss a week or month. The security and game flow just isn’t strong enough to build on.

honestly, from what i’ve seen, not much unfortunately – but on a psychology level – have fun anyways ? – these people feed off frustrations of others, the more you complain the more you feed the fire and give them the satisfaction of knowing they are getting on your last nerve.

They have to get bored and ignored – anything else is just giving them a reason to do it again since there is no way to effectively report them :/

think of it like this – ever notice how when you start telling people “Don’t waste supplies on sm” they fix the wall …..or you tell them “You better not ______” some people will do it just cause ? same thing

i suspect the problem is bigger than what it seems – I remember in gw1, once they got a hold of how to deal with it, that big grim reaper use to make an appearance and cut down a character – many bot accounts got taken out like that. I got to see that reaper in action a few times in Hoh. – I suspect they will address it the same way once they get a handle of how to deal with it. It really wouldn’t be wise for them to talk about it much on the forum anyways because it will only serve to warn cheaters of how anet plans to fight them off. so i’m guessing they are being ninja about it.

actually, that might be an innovative way to curb cheaters, throw anet tags on em rofl!! they’d become instant targets vs the whole server heh!! – don’t let the person know they have it, and don’t let the rest of their server see it lol…they’ll just wonder why everyone is picking on em heh!! -smh- “omg, they must know what I’m doing!!” hahaha!!

anet tags should be god mode anyways – ya’ll bring torment on yourselves for tagging up as mortals lol how can you be authoritative with a tag when you are getting 1 shotted by a zerg ? seems to me you guys want bragging rights for surviving with tags on too lol!!

it’s a ghost hunt. I’ve seen this time and time again, and to really catch someone, either the program has to spot abnormal behavior or the users ram has to be scanned.

This might not be an easy task for a-net to achieve without overhauling the system, or subjecting themselves to people conspiring to get someone banned without proper evidence.

I’ve seen the hacking since pvp came online – it’s a part of the game. Cheating has always been a part of games since before the internet – at least now you have technology to help curb it – but that becomes an issue all it’s own with privacy rights.

I think anet needs to have 1 week a month where they just play for fun and enjoy the game with us.

I suppose we all have to be nice with them too, because who would want to work on a game where all your customers are always angry at you – that will only cause a separation. It’s better if we all understood this as our virtual home and worked together to make it a happy one :p – one pays in cash the other pays with labor to make it better.

i have the perfect solution for this, we all agree to fight naked without weapons or armor in wvw!!

actually, I think we have one in DH – but never puts a tag up – loves pve – I can’t say he is one officially – but the way he spoke left clues that he knows stuff that he doesn’t want us to know he knows …..lol – so I played along – very nice person actually and patiently guided me through a dungeon!!

like what, you may ask ? like being impressed of how far I got in the game with just wvw – while me not saying much if anything about stats and gear lol

with the current balance – it’s the path of least resistance since those classes have the most survivability. But for wvw to really be at it’s best – each character has it’s role to play – …it just so happens that now, especially with imbalanced fights – there is no need to add beyond the basic warrior / guardian / necro – trinity …why risk anything less than steamrolling ? you will see more variety in lower ranked servers because the fights are more balanced with less people – so tactics / strategy / creativity have more space to happen. it’s easier fending off a 40 man zerg vs a 90 man zerg that can have your walls / doors down in seconds.

I’m pretty sure they do, but I’m also guessing that since it’s work for them, they look at it more analytically than a regular gamer. Not that it’s bad, because it is a job, but the downside to that I’d imagine is they become immune to certain things we find fun ? They’ve been playing the game for how many years now before we came into the scene ?

I’m guessing none of them are running home from work to play wvw to wind down from a long day of working on the game lol
