careful what you ask for, I can easily see anet charge 100,000 badges and 250 ecto for an ascended backpiece. leave it alone for now – if you complain too much now, then we can’t complain about how insanely priced they made it when it comes – it’s bad enough they insist we should grind for stats. :x

funny thing is my server shows as very high population – but only way I can see that is that it’s based on accounts – i think a lot of people have accounts on my server but hardly play – if they were to suddenly log on we be an overnight t1 lol

well, in wvw , there could be more pug oriented tools – part of the problem is there are more individual players – than organized guilds – so that’s still going to be niche market – we need some insta-guild stuff ….that’s easy and quick – what about a simple join team button for those commanderless moments – don’t wait for someone to start one – just make a default eazy zerg button lol – and as for time training – well yeah….it’s still a game which the first goal should be fun – and learning together can be fun as heck – thats how guilds are born!! skill comes after being facerolled a few times even though you had 60 people in a zerg lol

massive transfers to your server are not fun at all – it more often than not brings in arrogant players that took over your home town and start bossing everyone around in condescending ways. We’ve been through and survived several of those – not fun when they come, not fun when they try to run the game and complain more than have fun, and not fun when suddenly they leave and you are outmanned from fighting bigger battles.

I’d rather that anet gave us tools to rally up our pvers to play wvw …than have those guilds come back – most of the population on my server is pretty friendly and fun, would like to see it stay that way.

mesmers have the illusionary res skill, never tried it on a lord though – I’ve hardly used it because it doesn’t seem to work or maybe it did and the limit was 5 people – hard to confirm in a big fight – you sort of cast it and run lol.

PVP vs PVE

to a core pvp’r – or wvw – pve is something you do when you need a break from pvp – so we do it once in a while for the adventure and change of pace- not so much for items. ( although everyone enjoys finding nice stuff )

to a core pve’r – wvw or pvp is something you do after you got all the best ‘looking’ items and want to show it off in pvp. It makes no sense to simply enjoy speed running a dungeon – you enjoy getting the best stuff so you can show it off.

in the end, pve – is not end game – pvp is ….for pvp’rs its to show off skill….for pve’rs its to show off items.

historically – for those who didn’t like pvp at all – then end game was Roleplaying with the best items. – in that case Lions arch or any other major city in the game was end game. – and part of the roleplay was about the events in pvp.

i doubt we will see any major relevant changes soon, it seems that anet is trying to guide people to do things with super rare items , than making the best of what people really want to do. They are trying to guide the flow rather than going with it.

i’m quite sure there is someone saying "we can’t do x because then they won’t do y – which is what we want. "

if you want to see a sudden burst in wvw population – just let the legendary precursors and ascended items and skins drop in them. Pve’rs would grind for them in wvw.

The problem with the logistics in the game, is that someone is sticking to making certain things so rare – that they use it as a carrot on a stick to guide the rest of the population to whatever area they want to populate.

it seems that once people get the rare item(s) they wanted, you see them naturally migrate to wvw – my server has been having a ton of new players with legendary weapons there. These type of “Visually Enhanced” items mean more in big crowds than in 5 man speed run dungeon teams.

It’s why I said on another post that fashion is very important in wvw – it’s a symbol of achievement that can be displayed to hundreds of people at a time. These items actually mean something in wvw – I really don’t notice anyone’s look in LA or even in dungeons where I’m too busy focused on staying alive or killing the npc.

it’s not the game that’s broken, it’s the people who refuse to play fair. All anet has to do is allow us to right click the persons name and have google display their current location, then the opposing server can group up offline and zerg the person itself. That wouldn’t be an exploit either. lol

the mesmer uses light armor. if you do anything that prevents him from casting, you can take him out in 3 shots – 2 if you have very high dps – otherwise he won the fight vs generally any class because his dps is very high. And I don’t agree with mesmers being bad in zergs – the great sword has as long a reach as the long bow
. My build shines in zergs …more often that not in my server …I’m the one leading my zerg in zerg vs zerg face offs because I usually take down about 5 characters to 1/2 health at a time. Unfortunately, sometimes they follow my illusions thinking it’s me and it doesn’t work as well lol.

or some people are finding ways to convert their badges to silver – quite honestly…I’m not against it because we go through siege like water …..and getting all the new ascended items is insanely expensive – so I don’t see this as a bad thing, eventually they will run out of badges and I’m sure you will see it die down.

i’m a great sword / with alt sword / sword mesmer – I love it ….the amount of damage I can do to all targets in front of me is intense – but the build is not easy because you are very squishy – any bit of lag will kill you as the only real way to run this build is glass cannon and using your clones / wave – pushing skills / and distortions as armor. Timing is everything with this build. Plus you have to know when to stand still to confuse your opponent, then suddenly start jumping around to create more clones. so it can be psychological too in an effort to confuse the enemy.

it’s a very Jet Li build as you will find yourself doing damage while doing somersaults over the enemy to cast more clones.

Honestly, i’m starting to think this is some psychological experiment lol – from another thread – I saw that the t1 servers were getting ques at 90 players per map – Last night my server …a bronze league server – I was in que and there was only like 50 people on our map. Now the developers don’t want to release that cap number – which makes no sense at all. You would think if they wanted to balance the game they would let us know how many people to rally from our server. Some servers are obviously marked to stay low level. – sure call it a conspiracy theory, but as long as these caps are “secret information” – it’s a valid theory. The leagues are fixed and the only possible explanation is someone is curious to see how we’d react.

or maybe an even simpler explanation is that they do this to conserve resources or keep fights relatively balanced ?

I don’t know but I was in que and no way did we have 90 players on our map, which is where the t1 servers say they start to que. makes me feel like even if we could rally those numbers – these restrictions would keep us out of competing.

the question is are all servers the same – I saw the outmanned buff come on with about 30 people transferring to borderlands at once following a commander. I had to que to get in Eternal, and there was zero ques in borderlands all of which had outmanned buffs and very small amount of roamers – the outmanned buff would disappear when we ported to a BL

another way to approach this is to look at the warriors weakness, if the warrior has no weakness, then it is in fact op – I know all the other classes do have their strengths and weaknesses – whats the warriors weakness ? High DPS, High defense, high health power, fast mobility – where exactly do you hit him …other than turning him into a moa….to take him down ? – in gw1 we had a ton of spells that would drop a warrior like a fly.

almost everything in gw2 seems to bounce off of him.

whats his weakness ?

can’t say confusion works against him either, they nerfed it so bad it’s not a reliable source of damage to any class, it’s just usefull if they are on their last breath and you need that last hit.

illusionary wave doesn’t work on him, and even turning him into a moa is questionable because they run away so fast and heal just as fast from the damage – further the moa spell casts too slow so you have to start casting when you see him before he even starts charging, else forget it – even then 2 out of every 5 moa casts don’t work..it will cast..opposing character doesn’t change, you have to wait 60 seconds to cast it again anyway. – speaking from a mesmers view

i went glass cannon zerker build – I’ve done over 9k damage with greatsword – I just need my phantasm to hit once and the rest of the zerg finishes them off pretty quick after – due to practically having no armor to begin with I can justify this character as a glass cannon – but if you use pirate runes – that parrot is deadly, not sure if it takes from my stats but it has taken down other players and pulled them away from my body when I’m downed lol – so between phantasms, clones when I dodge, and the parrot, I turn into an army quick – and the clones explode confusion – I pity the foo that I turn into a moa! hah!

The mesmer is an advanced character to play – mainly because it’s so squishy, but the damage it does is pretty intense – I often do crowd control when in a zerg with my greatsword – I took out a guardian 2wice yesterday while taking a camp solo – but the second time he came back with a warrior that hit hard the first shot and I’d have to give up a ton of damage to have the defense needed against that kind of spike attack. Not worth it either because no matter what, we are light armor.

honestly, wvw is fun …. it’s great to be able to jump into the game and just join a friendly group that doesn’t judge your build / demand you do this or that. you jump in a zerg and bam, you are on an instant adventure!! Dungeons don’t have that, neither do most areas of pve. wvw is instant action.

I don’t think Anet expected it to be this popular, and for the wvw’rs to take it so serious as to flood specific servers…..

I like to look at all sides of the picture – and really think in the end it depends on the players balancing out the game – it’s unfortunate that anet would have to place requirements and restrictions because people won’t voluntarily help balance the matches.

the orb was fun till it was exploited, zerging is fun, till it became unbalanced, wvw is fun until people started transferring to grief the other server ….it’s like wvw is so much fun….anet needs to keep us from wrecking it with rules that inevitably wreck it – such a catch 22

it’s a very “I drink because I’m sad, and I’m sad because I drink” scenario.

it’s really just a matter of time before the zerg balances itself out – truth is unbalanced matches are not fun at all – the op servers will get bored of fighting the same people – and either leave or spread out – and the lower servers will have more fun and become more strategic because it’s more balanced – eventually the op servers will catch on to this and balance the servers in search of a real fight. IMO The game is already there and works great – and really shouldn’t change to cater to the players in the op servers that need some time to figure this out. lol

the more anet caters to the imbalance – the less wvw will look like the wvw that made them go tier 1 to begin with.

consider that ….if they are fighting an empty map – they aren’t gaining wvw rank because there is no more property to take or people to kill.

gaining wvw ranks is faster in balanced matches – when you are outnumbered …it’s hard to rank up because you can’t stay on the field long enough – when you outnumber someone else – it’s hard to get new points vs an empty server that doesn’t take their land back or hardly comes on the field. So I have to say it works great for me – I’ve gotten 5+ ranks in like 3 hours of game play – in balanced fights. – where we are constantly losing land and taking it back.

I think if Anet made the requirements of the WVW version ascended backpacks and items to be based on rank – ie – to get x item – you need to be level 50+ in wvw ….this will prevent the pve looters from exploiting it and leaving it to dedicated wvw’rs.

it’s apparent for wvw to really flourish – a bigger separation from pve is necessary – as an old school pvp’r – I do enjoy dungeons – they are a fun adventure, something to enjoy and discover 1nce or 2wice – not haunt till i have more loot than I can handle. I’d rather grind for skill in pvp / wvw. Skins belong to pve – because that’s ultimately what they grind for …or at least should be grinding for – Stats belong to PVP because player skills is what we grind for, and should not be distracted. Skins in PVP just shows that we like pve also…not make a pve’r better equipped because they can’t pvp.

please stop instigating – this is a legitimate issue – I had to stop wvw last night to figure out what to do with 1500 bloodstone items. I didn’t want to stop wvw and I want an ascended item for it’s specs ….not for it’s looks because it doesn’t look so hot.

I don’t like pve nor do I like higher up servers …I shouldn’t “HAVE TO” transfer to another server – which was the point of the thread “I” started.

maybe multiple servers wasn’t the best idea. Thanks for the suggestion, I’d like to stick to my server, mainly because it has the friendliest people I’ve seen on the forum and in game. I’ll just have to wait till anet fixes it …or die trying solo …or maybe if I’m lucky – find a nice friendly team – and to my servers credit …we have them!! They are just not on all the time. Hopefully this thread will have made this issue apparent.

The pve content in the game is great – but getting to it is not fun at all, nor am I interested in doing the same dungeons 50x times over and over again simply to get what I need to do what I enjoy most, wvw.

No. You not using the tools ANet gave us to get what you need is being silly. Guest to another server. It is free and takes 2 seconds. Now you can get the junk you want. If you are too lazy to do that you should leave the forums. If nothing can please you say nothing, because it isn’t worth our time read the crap that you type.

this is exactly the type of people I find in pve and I don’t want to play with, Anet – this is not a perfect world and we need ways to stay away from these guys. They are ruining your game.

the problem imo with the game is that it’s built on what I called a “Perfect world scenario” where everyone gets along, likes playing the same way, logs on at the same time and wants to go to the same place – nothing can be further from the truth and if you wish to verify my theory – make Orr an open pvp area. It’s impossible to be a casual player and log on for 2-3 hours and experience all areas and items of the game. It’s near impossible to get a dungeon team that want’s to do a dungeon like a regular play – everyone wants to speed run. People don’t like to play by a standard and this “Perfect world” design is flawed in a huge way…..then to give it leagues in a pvp realm that stats are very important ? lol

getting the exotic backpack is not as easy as running to orr – orr in my server is a dead place …no one goes there anymore since anet – ‘improved it?’ – you have to do the temple event – which can’t be done solo…….and if I hear find a guild one more time!! Arg – i’m was in 5 and each of them was like 5 out of 500 are on and the few that are on farm jormag- many of them transferred to other servers – so just running to orr will get you nothing but frustrated. The logistics are flawed and saying there is a quick and simple solution is just as bad as hearing ‘the check is in the mail’

key ingredients to all those recipes are a pve grind.

the idea to get us to play different parts of the game, is to let us play in the area that we want to play – till we want to explore another area for a change – not force us to stop to be up to spec.

it feels like we have to play 100 games of old maid before we can get a decent game of poker.

i really don’t understand why anet limits their fashion line to lions arch – I’d be a very happy steampunk midget in wvw otherwise. Fashion is very important in wvw

I was playing around with the Looking for group panel in wvw – and was pleasantly surprised with the results.

One thing that helps is if a commander places the post,

ie – commander looking for zerg
or Borderland karma Train run!

- you are more likely to attract more people for a quick karma train who don’t normally wvw often.

Many servers have a big audience, and all you really need is to make an announcement that would be appealing to people that need a break from doing dungeon runs – but no one wants to enter an empty borderland that’s disorganized. Most people love a good zerg run, but not many people like solo roaming in a game to get randomly face stomped by groups of 5, that’s an acquired taste lol

Just a thought.

Ever since I can remember -and I’ve been playing mmo pvp since it was only available in dos – high damage builds are the preferred choice in pvp – and they don’t work in pve – The skill was developed in avoiding taking damage, proper positioning, timing and having the ability to spike your opponent, solo or with a team. Insisting pve goes against the grain of this very core concept of pvp and the chess aspect of pvp. – especially since all the dungeons are instakill without the right amount of defense. Otherwise the pvp fights are inefficient and last way too long with low damage and high defense. The logistics to the ascended items are not correct if they are to be included in wvw. a pvp based area of the game.

Dodging a bullet is what makes a skilled pvpr – not having a bullet bounce off his chest from armor. spells, tactics and timing are the pvprs armor.
