u know what the t1 servers are going to say after we break up their day and night over populated coverage ?
“glad they found a solution, i really didn’t like the other guilds on this server anyway” – these guys are together because they want to win, not because they admire each other.
when enough people leave, you will see less complaints. complaints are good, it means people care enough to voice their opinion. If they didn’t care , why bother.
I never complain about wow…..i have never and will never play it either lol
won’t fly, if I paid to transfer to a winning server…I paid to win. That should be obvious.
server vs server doesn’t work.
if my goal was to pay to be on the winning server, I’d be happy too. Doesn’t make it right.
if they want to help, tell them to join wvw in a low tier server and get face stomped with us.
it will dawn on them.
ya…….wvw turned into dodgeball and every server below T1 is the fat kid lol
yeah. and this capture the point thing …is no good either – it’s going to be the thieves point …staying invis capping the spot.
I think you have to be careful how you implement the cap though too – the core of the problem is wvw is a great competitive arena – but making it server wide is mixing casual players with competitive players – so capping it will kill the competitive players when they can’t get their whole guilds on the field. There has to be a way to keep a balance so everyone is happy – we all love wvw play style – some for fun…others for competition – as long as you keep putting us on the same field – casual players are going to get stomped…… so this server vs server thing isn’t working.
explain all the reasons you want …..transferring to an overpopulated server for non stop coverage is paying to win – there is no justification for ruining the game because you want to stack up on a server. – wvw needs to be capped so you can’t pay to win in wvw.
population wise right now is horrible – I’m in a really good low mid rank server … been playing it since beta – we have some great pvprs …who pretty much pug together regularly and never let odds overwhelm us ….heck even now being severely outnumbered – we have 2 bloodlust thingies …… and it’s a ghost town. I’ve NEVER seen it so empty before today. so I can only imagine you are in an upper tier server to say this, because from my view …it’s very unreasonable to say the balance is fine …extremely unreasonable in fact.
30 is too low though ….. it should be enough to have a ‘small’ reasonable sized zerg – because that’s how wars were really fought – and enough extra men to cover your other maps … but they really should allow private wvw gvg fights to allow casual players to play with casual players and hard core players to play for rank in organized wvw – this way the top tier servers aren’t destroyed either ….they are after all like minded players – so they should be allowed to be competitive – but not at the casual players expense
if we cap wvw and make it so guilds can challenge guilds …then no one has to move at all ….. this should be about skill..not brawn.
Transferring to the most populated server for wvw is paying to win….fact.
i would have included hall of heroes in that mix but the only thing Hall of Heroes did was create elitist anti social players – so it’s either pug or gvg – not organized pug.
nah, not overflow maps ….in gw1 the gvg section of the game was hugely popular – and actually the foundation of the esport idea – I’m simply mixing gvg with fort aspenwood which was very popular for open pug wars …. – overflow is random ……organizing guilds for competitive matches is different.
I don’t think anyone will argue with capping the open wvw fights especially if it will kill the lag and 100 man zergs
you can make the open pug wvw a never ending battle – because some of us just want to join a fight when we have free time – and you can make the private gvg wvw matches for anywhere from 1 hour to 24 hours – to make it more relevant for a score – this way you have one section of wvw for dedicated hardcore players ….and another section for those that like wvw casually.
the problem with your spvp is your map and the different playing style – wvw has it’s own playing style ….but the fact that it’s server wide for score makes it a poor resource for ranking because of over populated servers …..but it’s kinda cool having a list of fights that you can join or start – and allowing people to organize fights makes the score more credible. Your current top server scores are not credible because of the population imbalance. that’s not skill…that’s pure brute strength and proves nothing.
when you go to wvw – you pull up a panel – you can join the pug wvw fight where anyone can enter ( just like fort aspenwood ) or you can challenge a server!
Or – you can challenge a guild(s) from another server for a private match.
Don’t ruin it with this tag the orb for godlike powers nonsense – we want to zerg – some with strangers …some with guildies vs guildies from other servers or even their own servers! Just cap it so transferring to a big server isn’t an advantage – bam your lag issues are done, the players get their gvg ….and you get your esport ..
you don’t fix what was working …just make it work more efficiently!!
can i get a witness ?!
from reading the thread …another possible solution would be to make wvw more like spvp lol…..seriously – limit the caps to the 60 per map like the above suggestions, but then make sub duplicate maps ….so the same server can join Server X – fight B
this way everyone is happy – you can zerg as much as you want without the lag …and you won’t have to worry about a que because you can jump into borderlands fight B if A is too full.
Kind of like the old GVG but servers can now challenge servers in fixed fights – as opposed to this lopsided automated matching system.
Why make it one HUUUGE all server fight – don’t give a massive population an advantage – then playing on any server wont matter – you can even program private fights for gvg …..so simple.
I should be given a one of a kind legendary for this idea, but will I get one ? noooOOOoooo!!
they killed iway, necrobombs, hoh hero builds, Hall of heroes, Orr, skill bars, gvg, next up to die – wvw. it went from rock paper scissors to rock paper tractor
(edited by Ricky.4706)
technically transferring to an overpopulated tier 1 server is paying to win. so we’re there now.
-evil laugh- thank you!!
“Ug kill puny mortals!”
(edited by Ricky.4706)
here you go, another idea – each server should be endowed with different race advantages – the asuran servers have a tech advantage – the norn servers have animal npc advantages – the human servers have dwayna advantages – the char servers have trap and mechanical advantages. the sylvari have plant life advantages
(edited by Ricky.4706)
ya, but on the same hand, brute strength should not be a dominating force – overpopulated servers need to run out of resources – and under populated servers will need to move fast if they want to hold back the brute force servers.
having massive numbers should be no advantage ….. it makes sun tzu cry!
all i know is guildwars use to feel like a good game of chess, now it feels like dodgeball. – overpopulated servers should be more for pve – where it’s needed for dungeons. wvw should be for strategists. and please, no more of that train running stuff to tag points – war ..we want war – to hold down areas and defend / fortify and good old mano a mano.
we need that starcraft element that keeps us building and destroying……. after all, that’s where zergs came from.
(edited by Ricky.4706)
yup ….anet really has to kill the incentive to be in the most populated server for constant coverage. Now with these leagues they just put salt on the wound. You guys KNOW people want to be on the winning team – ya’ll need to come up with an incentive that any server can be a winning team and an over populated server is nothing more than an annoyance and no advantage, if anything, their resources should be running short – not multiplying.
like in star craft, resources are everything ….and if you run out of them …you are boinked! lower tier servers should be able to have a ton more resources and npc operated siege weapons, it would be cool to have one of the workers operate a treb or arrow cart. – more populated servers have less workers to do this.
(edited by Ricky.4706)
I’m not anti zerg, if anything I really enjoyed them, the problem is when people go extreme to trash everyone else – zergs are fun when it’s zerg vs zerg …..not zerg vs 5 people …. so don’t get it twisted. There’s a difference between a big battle and a slaughter.
Heck, I use to sing “Born Free” every time I ran with a zerg. – But it shouldn’t be the detriment of the game to have everyone flock to the top 2 servers – not the same thing.
seriously , picture it …One guy the size of an elder dragon terrorizing and camping a top tier server rofl!! that would be classic! The overpopulated server would look like roaches!! lol!!
I’d gladly give up the gold benefits just for elder dragon powers – I would love to chase down zergs to be honest! that would be a hoot!! it would even be fun if your character got bigger with each inbalance!! – the lowest tier server would be Godly Giants! You’d see people running to be in the most empty servers for this ability!! Hahaha!!
one possible idea to fix this would be what I’d like to coin – a balance of powers mechanism – the total dps and health of the server you are fighting – gets spread out to the opposing server ….. so if server A has 500 people that can do, 1 million dps total – and server B only has 10 people ….the game balances the power by giving those 10 people – 100k dps each along with the the equivalent health – then it would be fun to fight the odds and be underdog. I’d love nothing more than to get swarmed and zap out 10 people at a time with 1 shot. THAT would be FUN and Justice.
its you, the top tier servers swarming everyone and unbalancing the game.
Your fate, to fight the same 4 servers for all eternity or fight against empty towns.
YOU can make a difference by spreading out and balancing out the servers.
then tell the top tiers to break up into the smaller servers. We are getting swarmed by people who want easy wins. Not by anet employees.
I know….I wish anet and the band wagon guilds would see that – just spread out
but no….they want to win at any cost, even if it means ruining the game and unbalancing. I really can’t put all the blame on anet because the game IS in fact fun.
We are talking about the same players that would transfer to another server to grief them.
watch, if you could get all the top tier servers to spread out to other servers – bloodlust would be fun ….but don’t expect that to happen. Anet just set the stage for it to happen, the band wagon guilds didn’t have to take the bait – but they did.
well, not exactly – anet plays devils advocate but they aren’t the devils – the devils are the people who do mass transfers to the top servers to win, – no different than the guys who demanded rank 12 to play in hall of heroes, eventually normal /casual players couldn’t find a group anymore – same thing on a different scale – normal players wont find a normal server to play wvw anymore – the game itself was fine actually – but the mentality caused clusters of people who just can’t play for fun or have server pride – they “NEED” to win, but this is a good mechanic to kill clusters of people. Naturally you group these players together with leagues and any casual player doesn’t want to play with them anymore – so it dies down.
@Valik, thanks, had to overclock it to 10mhz for gw2
@timi – because it’s still new, but once the leagues set in and the same servers fight the same servers over and over for a whole season, and people get tired of long ques and lag – it will dwindle….. I’m sure of this …again …look at hall of heroes from gw1 – it started the same way – very packed and full …and it kept changing till it died. It didn’t happen overnight – but they stopped fixing it once it was dead.
it certainly matches the pattern since gw1 , they want small 8 man groups – the only thing that stayed fun in gw1 – was fort aspenwood – wvw was the closest thing to fort aspenwood where it had that free for all feel. maybe that’s why they are trying to force train everyone to like spvp – because it’s a controlled amount of people . Anything that gets too popular and form large clusters of groups will get trashed.
this is history repeating itself – they did the same thing with Hall of Heros in Gw1 – by the time they were done with it, it was a ghost town with a few people on the euro servers demanding rank 12 players. same exact thing – i was really hoping they’d change this ‘play it my way, or no iway’ thinking – iways were fun – but they killed them…the ruins of or – had a fun population in it …they killed it … anything that get’s groups playing together they kill…. it’s a pattern already – not a mistake.
lol…tin foil cap much ? – they let us down. It’s that simple. Pay attention, unless you are getting paid to use a different name for pr control on the forum, if that’s the case, then great work .
they have a staff psychologist, they know what they are doing. They wanted to shake off most of the wvw population…it’s obvious. I’m taking a break from gw2 …and will unsubscribe from them because I’m tired of the let downs. They need those snobs who are willing to pay to win.
also, don’t blame anet – the band wagoning guilds made this a horror story – the guys who place so much importance in being the best and put fun in the backseat made this happen.
Don’t expect to see these guys become reasonable any time soon either, THEY ruined wvw – bloodlust actually sounds fun with normal players. If all these transferring guilds decided to keep things balanced – then anet would have to come up with a plan b.
anyone that forgot that the purpose of this game is for business, needs the tin foil hat lol – wvw wasn’t making money, if anything , it probably cost a fortune in server maintenance – brilliant alternative to actually having to fix something that didn’t generate money if you ask me. it’s going to burn the game out, but on the same hand , that means lower server costs…so they still win.
they may as well call wvw the running game ….you run to the fight ….get out numbered …die …and run again! but hey, repairs are free ..so it’s ok ? lol
wow, i was just in wvw …severely out numbered and all I pretty much do is jog for 5 minutes – get out manned for 30 seconds ..repeat.
what scares me is that anet has meetings to come up with this… I have zero doubt this is all about making transfer money…there is no way in this world they said “Wow, They will LOVE this” at that anet wvw meeting…serious …just no way.
I predict next season they will fix it by making amazing bonuses and wins so everyone can transfer to lower tiers to “balance out the servers”

make sure all the wires on your motherboard are still secured – some boards have an additional 4 or 8pin for power ( some have 2 ) – while the board may still function without it – it won’t have the same power.
also keep an eye on your system temperatures to make sure something didn’t happen to the cooling system and as a result, running hotter – less efficient.
or you can get 32 gigs of ram, allocate 17 of that to gw2 on a ramdisk for 20x faster than ssd. #truestory
graphics card doesn’t have much to do with it, i was getting insane fps on a gtx 460 – i custom built a system that overclocks itself with the 4770k – i was monitoring the system while i was playing gw2 – it overclocked itself to 4.0 ghz (from it’s base 3.5ghz ) – which i thought was kinda cool because this was just on the intel turbo – which is supposed to cap at 3.9 – but i have a good board to match it. Chances are it’s your cpu that’s choking.
it should also be noted that I saw my 170 fps lock down to a solid 61 – I think the developers throttled the fps – this was possibly to respond to the overheating cpu issues.
You may want to try disabling any additional software you have that may be taxing the cpu because without a doubt gw2 is very heavy on the cpu

Thank You Caedmon. Actually this system is handling it like a champ and I have plenty of resources, which is why I found the message strange to begin with. I’m just passing along the information in hopes to help Anet and everyone else that are still having troubles. The issues on this forum are pretty harsh and I figure any little clues Anet can get would help. Cheers.
PS – I noticed after last update, I am not going above 61 fps in lions Arch – doesn’t bug me nor do I find that it hampers my game play but still noticed it all the same.
I was able to run max settings on everything – @ 38 fps on a gtx 460 – not sure what the big fuss over max settings is when it looks almost identical to mid settings – so anyone struggling with fps because of high settings – should really tone it down – even though I can now play max settings, I put it down to mid / low settings to not stress my computer unnecessarily.

here is the error I was talking about earlier!
actually, yeah, I agree, no need to change my posts – it was a play by play as I was installing the new system.
I do agree with the garbage, because it seems every software you install or page you visit adds more and more to lag – but no one is going to stop downloading new software just to play guildwars 2 , thats just unreasonable to even consider..- so I’m thinking a good practice for the future is to put just the os on one drive – so you can format it regularly. No need to reinstall GW2 because it runs from any drive and not dependent on registry entries.
I did see dramatic decreases in fps though, in same spots in GW2 – and I did see my fps go from 120 to like 50 in Lions Arch by simply turning from west to south …so GW2 does play it’s part in all this – further GW2 is apparently tweaked for microsoft – before all the new patches – this was obvious as I kept adding the insane amount of patches from windows. I’m blaming microsoft as a courtesy to arenanet – it is kind of crazy that for every patch they write they expect developers to have to fix their software over and over.

You should try ‘loath’ then. It seems to pack a little more punch when compared to ‘hate’. :p
nah, too smooth a word. I’d rather use desPise and really emphasize the P so you can gt that little blast of air and that blinking effect when you say it to someone that works at adobe!! :P
also one more thing, I recently discovered that since version 10 adobe flash adds a protected mode sandbox by default that is incompatible with firefox and probably most any other program – they keep it hush and you have to dig deep to find any posts about it – apparently they think safety is more important than having a functional computer. ( kitten talk here ) – so you may want to disable the protected mode on your adobe flash – my ‘new’ system is randomly freezing because of it now. I honestly wish I didn’t have to use adobe – hate is a strong word, but not strong enough. to describe how i feel about their flash program and the monopoly they have with it.
