Well, that didn’t work for me .. went around yesterday activating nodes but when I went back still nothing .. maybe just bad luck.
There is a post in the Bugs Forum about this issue. Many people are having problems with aetherblades not appearing at the projectors. The day before I had no problems even though I didn’t see other people around activating them. Yesterday, I went to 4 different zones and not one. That’s not just a coincidence. So there definitely seems to be a problem.
I think this is a great idea. It gets really frustrating to have to redo earlier sections because you missed a jump later on. Then it’s no longer fun. Having save points would keep the positive momentum flowing.
There’s a post in the Bugs forum on this problem. So hopefully someone will take a look at this issue.
There are several posts in the Sky Pirates sub forum where other players are experiencing the same problem finding aetherblades. Yesterday no problems .. today couldn’t find any.
Yup same problem .. I spent two hours running around in Diessa, Ashford Plains, Fields of Ruin, and Fireheart Rise … no aetherblades at any of the projectors. I tried to enter Vexa’s Lab, but no one else was around and I couldn’t kill the boss by myself. So I couldn’t proceed any further. At that point I was so frustrated, I quit looking. Yesterday I ran around Diessa and had no problem finding groups of Aetherblades, today nothing. I just need 23 more. Hopefully they’ll spawn better tomorrow.
No not the final boss .. I mean when you first enter you have to kill some mobs to open a doorway. That’s where there’s a veteran type that I couldn’t solo. I never made it to any golems.

The only reason you can’t repeat your personal storyline or the living story can’t be repeated is because of a decision by Anet. There’s no inherent reason they couldn’t be repeated if the game was going in a different direction.
In any case, this thread is about story dungeons and the fact that they’re temporary content. To many it seems like a waste of a good dungeon. Casual players given more time to work on these dungeons would have a better chance to enjoy the content. So I think they should be left in the game for a longer period of time after the event if not permanently.
Here we go again .. the dungeon is too hard . it’s too easy it’s not for casuals .. oh yes it is .. OMG. Dungeons continue to be a divisive issue in GW2. I don’t understand how Anet hasn’t figured out a solution to this problem. It would certainly make everyone a lot happier and more inclined to continue playing the game. Have the devs ever commented on having a regular mode and hard mode for story dungeons? This has been suggested so many times.
I realize that it will be impossible to please every single person when it comes to this issue. But it would go a long way to satisfying the majority of players.
No .. unfortunately I love playing a ranger in most games. Need I say more?
1. Skills are too limited and the ones we do have are boring.
2. Temporary content with storylines that are less than intriguing.
3. Boring, tedious achievements with rewards that are not that great.
I also want to add that dungeons continue to be a divisive issue that GW2 hasn’t figured out how to handle. Still don’t understand why we can’t have regular mode and hard mode especially with the story dungeons.

“DON’T LISTEN TO THEM ANET…you are doing the right thing giving people a challenge.”
Challenge does not necessarily equal fun content. A challenge is only fun as long as it captures your desire to overcome it. If it just feels like an exercise in frustration, it isn’t fun anymore. From what I’ve read in other threads a lot of people complain about the mechanics in the GW2 dungeons. They say they’re not hard just not fun. So Anet needs to create a team of dungeon designers that knows how to make fun, interesting dungeons like the Molten Alliance Facilities Dungeon. Then you’ll see many more people willing to attempt group dungeons instead of complaining about them.
" Solo content creates an every man for himself attitude that does not belong in a game like this."
" this game is going to be consistently trying to get you to play with other players. "
If Anet wants everyone to be grouping for their game as the above posters are suggesting, then the devs need to find a way to make the dungeon content more appealing. Most people would be willing to try dungeon content if it was FUN. I have seen countless threads about the state of the dungeons in this game. Threads about the difficulty or lack of difficulty, threads about which dungeons are easiest to farm, threads about the changes to AC and how to beat certain dungeon bosses. But the one thing I rarely see in most threads is anyone saying how much FUN the dungeons are to play. Mostly I see people discussing the boring mechanics of the GW2 dungeons.
So maybe if Anet wants everyone to be grouping in dungeons, they should try making them FUN and interesting. I’m sure there are people who will say that they think the dungeons are already fun because they love tortu …….err challenge. I’ve done a few of the dungeons and some fractals; I didn’t find them fun. They weren’t especially hard, I just didn’t enjoy doing them.
“but to come and complain about something as if they’re entitled to it, in that spot, just because it was there before is something I will never understand.”
It’s rather simple .. people don’t like change that affects them negatively. Say you’ve been working at the same job for some time at a certain salary. One day your boss decides to make cuts (including your salary) due to hard economic times. You may understand where your boss is coming from, but you will probably not be happy about the change. You might even complain about how it will be harder to pay for things.
I think the word “entitled” is thrown around a lot on forums as a put-down. At least that’s how it comes across to me. I don’t care for the way RNG is implemented in this game. I don’t care about farming. But everyone has a right to come on forums and express their opinion without condescension or being made to feel that their “opinion” is wrong. That would be an oxymoron.

It depends on the size of the city obviously. I don’t think Lion’s Arch is the size of Berlin or New York. But I see your problem; I guess you’d have to estimate about how fast you think they are running.
To get a rough estimate I would use a known value from the real world: the average time it takes a human athlete to run a set distance for instance 50 yds or 100 meters. Assuming our characters are in good athletic condition they should be able to run at the speed of a real athlete. Once you determine the average time an athlete can run 100 meters for instance then you can run that distance in the game. Now you would know about how far it is from point A to point B in the game. Or you could run from one end of Lornar’s Pass for instance to the other and see how long it takes. Based on the average speed of a human you would have at least a rough idea as to the length of the distance covered.
You’d need to have a map scale; measure a centimeter on the world map (this will always be only a rough estimate since it may be difficult to do on a monitor and depending on the screen resolution.) In any case, find a distance that is approximately a centimeter long, have your character run that distance, and now you would know about how many meters or yards is equivalent to that centimeter.

I agree with everyone else. In fact, I kept thinking I must have missed something. Was that the end? Who do I talk to next? I didn’t see any glowing for the suspect and suddenly it’s just the end. Makes me think of the stories my students used to write in 4th grade when they were in a hurry to finish. They suddenly wake up and it was all a dream. That’s how this felt to me. I was left wondering who this Mai Trin was and why she wanted a seat on the council. .
In regards to the above posts: It’s not the quantity that matters so much, it’s the quality. There’s no point in trying to compare the amount of content between two games. In the end it only matters how much fun or enjoyment a player derives from that content. Sometimes less is more as they say. Obviously some people in this thread were less than satisfied with the content in GW2 others think it’s fine. That’s how opinion works.
There’s still plenty of content I never finished in GW2. But that content like dungeons for instance is not fun for me. I don’t care for the design of the dungeons. Of course, that means I didn’t care for fractals either. I don’t care for pvp because I don’t enjoy killing other players. So there’s more content that I won’t be delving into.
I’m glad there are people who enjoy GW2. But for me GW1 will always be my all time favorite game.
Personally I just don’t enjoy the game anymore. I leveled up one character and have struggled to level up any others. It just seemed so boring to repeat all the zones with another character which didn’t feel very different from my first. I miss the trinity in combat and I miss questing. That’s actually my favorite part of any game. The renown hearts and dynamic events were nice. I liked the dark storylines of GW1; but I don’t enjoy the story telling in GW2. In the end, it just depends on a person’s playstyle and what they’re looking for in a game. For some people GW2 is a total miss, while for others it’s a hit.
At this point in time I highly doubt we’ll ever see the Crystal Desert. GW2 is being developed in a completely different direction. They have no reason to revisit old areas including Cantha and Elona. If they did open up the Crystal Desert, I’m sure it wouldn’t look anything like what we remember. So it’d just be a disappointment.
I laughed at your post Rooks Zaer. That’s exactly what they would do!!
I personally doubt they will ever bring Cantha or Elona back. At this point I don’t even expect to see the Crystal Desert. The devs are taking GW2 in new directions. They have no reason to revisit those lands.
I guess it all depends on one’s perspective. I never found Cantha or Elona for that matter offensive to anyone’s culture because I knew it was just a game. And if that is the reason they aren’t planning to bring Cantha back, it seems shortsighted. The rest of Tyria has changed; so Cantha wouldn’t be the same either, the perfect opportunity to bring a more modern take on things.
I wonder if we’ll even see the Crystal Desert anytime in the near future. Maybe it’ll take another 5 years of development.
In respect to all the Tyrians that died at the hands of the charr (especially Althea), I won’t play that race.
I won’t play a sylvari because plant people should never exist plus they’re all ugly.
I absolutely would never play an azura. They are strange little creatures that look like they belong in a space game plus they’re rude, arrogant, and annoying. The only azuran I ever liked was Oola.
Norn are giants; so don’t care to play one.
That leaves humans … end of story.
And for that matter where is Mike O’Brien. He is after all the founder and president of Anet. During beta we frequently saw posts or videos he put together. At launch he updated the status of various problems being addressed. But since then nothing; so I wonder if he’s directing other projects now?
From SnoodBeAR ….. we haven’t had a dungeon since release (not including fractals) and it was about time we got one.
You have to be kidding right? Let me refresh your memory. The Mad King Thorn Halloween events ended in a dungeon which was temporary similar to MWF. You could replay it as many times as you liked.
Next there was the Winter’s Day Events which included Toymaker Tixx and his airship visiting all the cities. Again this involved 5-man instances ending with a dungeon in LA. It was temporary content but a dungeon nevertheless.
You dismiss Fractals as thought they were no big deal. That was the only major, permanent update to the game and it’s all dungeons originally the only way to get ascended gear.
The personal story ends in having to do the Arah story mode dungeon. And now the F&F story arc ends in a dungeon. All we want is for one – I repeat ONE – story to not end in a dungeon or at least to have alternative ways to complete the story. I don’t think that’s asking for too much. =)
Imagine Anet creating dungeons that you group for all the way to the end and then every single time you get to the boss you have to do it solo.
I personally don’t have problems grouping with people to do dungeons. I just don’t find them fun. To me they’re about as much fun as a torture chamber. I really don’t understand how people find them “fun” at least not the ones in GW2. Some people enjoy the “challenge” of a dungeon, others don’t. Now I haven’t done the flame and frost dungeon yet (I’m planning to) and everyone says it’s a much better design.
When I played LOTRO I was in a kin and did dungeon runs all the time. An incident came up over loot where someone got really upset and because I rightfully chose to claim my reward instead of letting that person have it, he kept taunting me in game to the point where I had to play a lot less. It was never the same game for me afterwards. That’s another reason I don’t care for dungeons.
A big part of this game is about dungeons. Even all the holiday events ended in dungeons. So those people who love dungeons can’t really complain. I don’t understand why one storyline can’t end without a dungeon or as I suggested above a couple of options for those who prefer not to do dungeons. Doesn’t it make sense for a company to offer a product that will appeal to the biggest fan base possible. I should think it’d mean more dollars in their pockets.
Massively Multiplayer does not necessarily = 5 man dungeon content. It can but there are many other ways players interact with each other such as guild missions. To insinuate that people who prefer not to run dungeons are somehow antisocial is a very stereotypical response from the pro-dungeonists.
The only thing I will agree with on some earlier posts is that if people don’t enjoy the content in this game they need to move on and find one that does meet their interests.
I agree that ending Flame and Frost with a dungeon isn’t as player friendly as other options might have been. Here’s my idea on what they could have done to please most people. Have several choices, including a dungeon, like we had in our personal story.
We were frequently given choices along the way. Do you want to join the Vigil, Priory, or Whispers orders? Each uses a different approach to dealing with the enemy. Do you want to enlist the aid of the Skritt, Hylek or Quaggan? You get the point. So why couldn’t we have had something similar in ending this story?
The Azurans are experts in underground matters along with new inventions. It would have been a good idea to enlist their aid and that of the Priory to investigate the Molten Alliance and their facilities. I envision an instance where you, the npcs and some golems head underground to sabotage the weapons/machinery. The instance would require sneaking past certain areas, investigating equipment, finding ways to access secret areas, etc. all without triggering an attack on your party.
So as a player, you could have chosen to follow the Vigil, head into the facility (dungeon path), and deal with the Molten Alliance head on. Or you could have chosen to go with the Azurans/Priory to sabotage/deactivate equipment (solo path.) At the end, there is a briefing with Rox and Braham on the outcome of the two groups. Anyway you get the point; I’m sure the devs could have come up with something really creative.
I understand that resources are limited and there may not always be time to create two options for players especially if it’s temprary content. But just something to consider for future story content.

I’d like to redirect people to the original topic which is “Why I think you’re (Anet) losing active players.” Presently, the discussion has devolved into a few people arguing about opinions and statements by others. We need constructive comments about what aspects of the game may be causing people to leave. Whether or not the game is failing (or not) isn’t the topic.
I don’t play GW2 anymore. I enjoyed exploring all the zones and got map completion. I enjoyed doing the personal story, hearts and dynamic events. I even enjoyed the jumping puzzles. I have not, however, found myself drawn in like I did with the original GW. I dislike dungeons and pvp; for me they’re just not fun.
I miss questing, heroes and henchmen, the skill system, and the unique feel of each profession. I loved playing my mesmer in GW! I love the characters in the game like Mhenlo, Cynn, Zhed, Koss, etc. They had little stories of their own that gave them personality. GW is the absolute best game I’ve ever played.
I know many people enjoy GW2 because it fits their style of play better. It doesn’t fit mine; so I’ve moved on. It just doesn’t have the things I loved about GW.
I do miss questing in GW2. The renown hearts were fun, but not exactly the same. In other games I’ve played, quests ranged from novice level to grandmaster. I would compare the renown hearts to simple, easy quests where you kill a few foe or gather some resources to help out some people. There is usually limited dialogue.
In a grandmaster-type quest for instance, you have a full-length story. Usually the quest involves talking to many different characters to gain clues about the mission. It can include puzzles to be solved in order to gain access to hidden rooms. The dialogue tends to be a lot more interesting because the storyline is developed over the course of the quest. Sometimes you might get a cryptic message or have to collect items to use in some special manner to continue the quest. Again logical reasoning or puzzle-solving skills come into play. Those are the sorts of quests I miss in GW2.
I’m sure most people who play GW2 are not questers and are perfectly happy with renown hearts. That’s fine with me; I’m not expecting Anet to suddenly bring quests into the game. They have a right to create the game as they like. I’m just responding to above posters who seem to think that renown hearts are just like quests. Not all quests are created equal.
So you just went to the zones and started wandering around looking for some events. I was totally frustrated for over an hour. When I asked in chat what we were suppose to be doing no one could really explain it. I just kept seeing certain objects mentioned, but no reason given as to why we should collect them or how they knew to look for them. I think very few people really understood it because no one explained it like the posters above. Thank you for your replies. At least I understand the event a little better now. I personally don’t like vague story telling.
Thank you dulfy. I should have checked there right away. Best site around for helping with tips, advice, and guides.

Okay… according to the letter I received, it sounded like I needed to go to Black Citadel or Hoelbrak. I saw the info in patch notes about refugees in Lion’s Arch, but it wasn’t clear that’s where we should start.
Okay .. thank you. How did you find them or know to look for them?
Can someone please explain or give directions about this phase of the story. I read the patch notes; so I know more activity is going on in Wayfarer and Diessa. I received a letter from Logan asking me to help out. But there were no specific directions about what or who to talk to. I tried talking to different npc’s with the stars but they just talked about things getting worse.
In chat people kept saying where to find certain objects, but I had no idea why we’re looking for those or how they knew. People I asked didn’t know either .. they were just getting the items because people in chat had given out locations.
I must have missed something. I can’t enjoy this “story” when I’m not getting any story. Thanks for any help.
Just to point out that the first big complaint about ascended gear was vertical progression and the fact that you could only get it by doing the fractals dungeon. So ANET said they would be adding content for other ways to earn ascended items. Yet for this months achievement there’s a dungeon requirement. Obviously, people who don’t like doing fractals won’t be the people who like regular dungeons either. Yes, you can still accumulate laurels and ascended items by doing just the daily but the monthly is a better payoff.
Now I am not complaining about doing dungeons for myself…..I don’t like them but I will do them if I have to. I’m just saying that acquiring ascended gear thru laurels is again tied to doing dungeons even if it’s only five. I think giving people choices on the monthly like they did on the Wintersday event is the way to go.
In gw there were outposts you ported to in order to start a mission. Everyone else at the outpost was usually looking for a group as well. So it was usually easy to find a team. I was thinking why not do something similar in GW2. Have like some instanced dungeon location/outpost where everyone from diff servers can gather to look for a group. I don’t know how difficult it would be to create this in the current game… seemed to work well in gw.
Well, it must depend on the person because I never found Dzaganur Bastion as hard as Jennur’s Horde even in hard mode with henchies/heroes. Now if you really want to have some fun vanquish the Hidden City of Ahdashim with heroes/henchies. That mesmer boss and his buddies at the end were troublesome because you can only spread heroes out so far. (I now hate roaring ethers.)
But anyway, the post is comparing missions in gw with GW2. I definitely enjoyed the gw gameplay, storylines, and the feeling that I really made a difference. The missions were challenging yet interesting and you felt like a hero. When you beat the campaigns you even had all the npcs cheering for you and thanking you along with fanfare and fireworks. That would be nice to see in GW2. Nobody seems to know me even though I killed Zhaitan … lol.
I think Fox never did Jennur’s Horde or forgot what the mission was. Those missions were intended to be completed by a team of real players and even then it was challenging. So to complete this particular mission using henchmen/heroes would require precise micromanagement. For that mission you had to position you heroes precisely and figure out the right build for each hero. You had to keep the waves of enemy from reaching the gardener which isn’t easy to do when you have to flag heroes in certain spots and then move them quickly while fighting. It would be much easier with a team of real players who know what to do and can think for themselves.
In regards to GW2, I do think there’s plenty of challenging content especially in fractals and dungeons. But they’re challenging in a different sort of way. It’s a faster paced game with quick thinking required. (like basketball) GW is about figuring out the right builds/skills for specific situations and countering the opponent’s build. (like chess)
You mean the “archaic” yet fully scalable UI where you could reposition all the elements as you wanted.
Yeah I look back at that and hope that GW2 will eventually hit the same standards.
Exactly my thoughts!!!
To all you GW1 players out there, do you remember MM Necros? They would go around with hordes of undead, healing them with monk spells, they were powerful, viable, but balanced. Does GW2 have that? Nope, the minions are a novelty, a gimmick if you like
The way I see it each profession in GW2 is a “Jack-of-all-trades” and master of none. I too remember how much fun it was to play a necro. Another one that’s changed so dramatically is the mesmer. In gw, mesmers really did use trickery to kill foes. I remember all those conditions, degen skills, interrupts, etc. You could use the opponents stats against them; so they’d end up damaging themselves instead of you. Mesmer was one of my favorite classes to play. I don’t find GW2 mesmers as much fun.
I agree with many of the above posters …. gw gameplay/pvp was more fun. I see potential in GW2 though. So I hope devs will read these posts and bring back the things we loved.
Oh okay .. thank you for the quick reply. I"ll check out the info there.
I did a search and didn’t see a dedicated thread to this topic; so I apologize if this has already been discussed. I’m only level 5 which makes me a noob to this fight.
Last night during the boss fight I realized how often the Jade Maw was targetting my pet, and I have a few questions about this.
1. Is this boss mechanic intended by the devs? Specifically is it intentional that the boss should attack the pets that frequently over the players?
2. How are other teams dealing with this? It obviously prolongs the fight since the pet can’t deal any damage. I can stow the pet away, but then I can’t really enter combat I think. So any tips from fellow rangers would be appreciated.
Oh okay, thanks for clarifying that .. .. shows you how unappealling it was to me. I better go edit that. LOL
I personally do not like the unicorn bow because it looks silly. Imagine an English longbowman running around medieval England with it, and the image would have to make you laugh. I prefer things to look more realistic, but I also realize that this is a fantasy game, and there are people that this bow might appeal to. I just don’t think it appeals to the majority of rangers and there aren’t any other great legendary options for bows.
The best looking bow I ever had and still use is my Ebon Recurve Bow from gw. But that’s just me. I also think few people would put all the time required into getting a legendary bow if it wasn’t really distinct from the rest.
(edited by Rosen Myst.7641)
How is such challenging content “fun”? I just don’t get that. But obviously many people enjoy it or the devs wouldn’t make OP bosses. They got tired of hearing that there’s no end game I guess.
I agree with Draconus. There are already plenty of challenging dungeon paths, at least there should be a few easy ones.
I was having problems getting this one as well. Kept letting things attack me and dodging, but I wasn’t getting it to count. The one thing that helped was finding a mob with distinct behavior just before attacking. Then it was easier to tell when to dodge.
Yes, that just happened to me. Kept trying to rez at checkpoint, but the DoT was still active. People tried to rez two of us in this condition .. no luck. I used healing spring as soon as I did the rez at checkpoint. But nothing helped. I had to re log to get rid of it and then we couldn’t finish the fight.
