I agree. Unfortunately the people in charge of implementing colors in connection with weapons seem to be inordinately fond of the color purple and rainbows.
Be that as it may, if you want a Sylvari character that caters to your personal wishes and doesn’t expose your children to something that you personally find offensive, I suggest that you make a Sylvari Warrior or Guardian. Then you can try to find non-cultural armor that doesn’t make them look fat. There are numerous threads in the Sylvari section regarding the issues that Sylvari characters have with many armor sets including light and medium. Even the cultural sets have issues that have never been fixed.

I like the first and third female faces although I think the eyes are weird but I’m not a big fan of anime style art. I like the third new male face. Although it has potential, the chunk of bark on the cheek is not particularly well done. The new faces without nostrils are, in my opinion, hideous but they do give people options to make more mutant looking Sylvari (shudder). I tend to agree with the OP regarding the overall quality of the new faces – all in all, pretty disappointing.
I looked at the sets just now and have to agree that they are pretty ugly. I’m not sure why the light armor was designed to look so clownish unless, as previous posters have suggested, it’s because it will be transmuted. I can hardly wait to see what the art department comes up with next. :/
I think male Sylvari make interesting sounds when they jump. It took awhile to get used to them though. I still think it sounds like they’re hacking up a lung when they cut down a tree. It’s a very distinctive sound.
I think the new faces without nostrils are hideous but they do give players several more options to select from. I imagine they will go well with some of the toxic colored skin tones.
Both my male Sylvari Mesmer and Guardian have face #1.

In my opinion, the karma nerf was horrendous and totally unwarranted.
Well, I did read the OP and as near as I can tell it’s the standard anti-zerg complaint with a touch of “it’s all about me” added in because someone is disappointed about what other players do in the game.
Tremain.4623 summed it up the best:
Champion farm trains happen in maybe three zones in the entire game, pro tip: you have 90% of the world to do what you want in.
Step out of LA and go to Bloodtide Coast where there’s a Champion Troll that is all but ignored. And a Champion Shark. Or go the other way and step out into Gendarran Fields where there are several Champions to be slaughtered. Guess what? They’re already being farmed. Better stop that too.
Same problem. I thought it was a graphics setting or video card problem – guess not.

Agreed. The mods should have stepped in here to clean out the rude attacks and flame posts. Spirit Weapons … No wonder some people function better with groups.
I like wings and back-pieces in general. I didn’t when they first started coming out, but I do now. Sure, wings don’t look realistic but neither do scantily clad female characters. And some people wants capes like in Guild Wars. However, in Guild Wars a lot of players opted not show their cape because it detracted from their armor – usually Obsidian armor.
I really like Phalanx set and got the set for my Human Guardian. I don’t much care for the oversized gauntlets so he’s not wearing them. The female version is meh.
If I had a Human female character that wore light armor I’d get the Trickster set because it reminds me of Guild Wars Necromancer armor. For males, there are pieces that could work but I’m not a fan of the set as a whole.
The Viper armor is not something that I would buy for a male or female character. My Engineer and Thief will have to make do with what they have.
I think that all of the new sets look odd on the other races but I’m always glad to see new armors made available.
I kept track of the obelisks I completed in each zone and made sure that each registered before I moved on. My final zone was Gendarran Fields. I was surprised when I transcribed the 4th obelisk and didn’t get the achievement so I checked and found that my count was at 23/24. But I knew the missing one had to be in this zone. It turned out to be the obelisk in the lower right corner. It was the first obelisk that I had completed in that zone. I knew I had killed the Krait around it and thought I had checked to make sure it registered but perhaps I didn’t. From what I recall there are Barracuda that get in the way so they may have interfered. Fortunately, I only had to revisit the 4 obelisks in Gendarran Fields to complete the achievement.
The proportions of the male body types are horrible. I find it odd that the females are replicas of their human counterparts but for some reason, the males are not. The males are shaped and move like gorillas. That said, I do like my Norn Guardian even if he jumps like a ninny.
I have a male Sylvari Mesmer and a male Sylvari Guardian.
The Mesmer is currently wearing transmuted Orr Temple armor even though he has a set of T3 cultural armor stored in the bank. I’ve tried numerous times to have him wear the T3 set and I can’t. The silhouette reminds me of a 1950s shirt dress. What’s worse is that the leaves on the front of the skirt don’t meet on the right side so there’s a gap that exposes a lot of upper leg and the groin area. It just looks nasty. I wasted a lot of gold on this travesty.
I’m not even going to get into the fact that the female Sylvari T3 heavy armor is more masculine looking than the male version. My Sylvari Guardian is wearing the T3 male version with the full skirt. I’ve gotten used to it. It has a nice glow and at least his private parts are covered up.
Orr temple armor has a gap between the bottom of the breastplate and the waist of the leggings which leads me to believe that the male Sylvari spine is several clicks longer than the male human. I discovered this one night when I noticed my Sylvari Guardian’s glow was showing where it shouldn’t be. For something that cost 82K karma what did I expect?
I also noticed that the vest of the new Phoenix armor set available from the Gem Store doesn’t meet the pants so there are two areas of skin exposed on the front of male Sylvari.
I suggest that someone start looking at armor sets prior to release in order to determine how they fit all of the races and not just humans.
I’d really like to see the male versions of Mesmer Obsidian and Necromancer Elite Luxon. Unfortunately they’d probably be clowned up to fit in with the current GW2 childish-looking armor schemes.
I read in an earlier post that Slayer achievements were affected by something done to counter the game crashing. Yesterday, for the first time in ages, the game ran flawlessly for me – no crashes, no freezes, no lock-ups. Today it’s back to business as usual – my game has already locked up twice.
I realized something was odd when I’d get an achievement practically every time I killed something. When I saw that many were set at 999/1000 I just started going to different areas to finish them off again. I haven’t had a chance to see what my Survivor title looks like. Oh well, I’ll just do it again if I need to.

The wand skin is so pretty. People are right – it’s perfect for a Mesmer. I want the staff skin though so I’ll be risking the wrath of the Toy Ventari for awhile longer. I hope a Greatsword is planned for the future. I’ll “need” three of those – one for my Guardian, Mesmer and Warrior.
I miss bots because I was able to use them to help me level characters in Kessex Hills, Harathi Hinterlands and Sparkfly Fen. To be honest, the drops weren’t so bad either. I also got to find out what they were botting.
I could definitely see the impact they had on the prices of crafting materials. I do miss the lower prices because I craft for my own characters.
Personally, I don’t consider farming to be playing the game. Farming takes time away from being able to actually play when I have to kill the same monsters repeatedly in the hopes of them dropping the material I need to craft something because the price to buy it on the TP has gone up because the bots are gone. And drop rates are so good right?
Right now, I think people are looking at guides written to speed level trades which rely on people buying items from the trading post instead of farming. Sky Marin’s cooking guide is one example. While some players are using the guide to level cooking, others are looking at it as a way to make money. Different strokes.
So yeah I do miss bots. They are still around but I’m not reporting them anymore.
So some of you want to do dailies in Queensdale because it’s fast and easy but the drops are terrible and you feel overpowered in your god-gear because it’s a starter area. o.O
I say leave downleveling the way it is. For those who want to be in a starter area and still feel challenge than I say go visit the Plains of Ashford and visit the vaults at the Old Duke’s Estate or the Ascalon City Ruins. If you’re real lucky a ghost boss mob will also spawn near the stairs leading to the skill point. Caledon Forest and Metrica Province also have some heavy hitters.
But no, go to Queensdale and then complain that it’s too easy and the drops are bad. Snicker.
I love my Guardian because he manages to succeed in spite of me hitting the wrong key, not dodging in time, trying out weapons that drop, or taking him to areas that I have no business being in. He is fearless.
@ Someo, this is a Guardian appreciation thread so why take a cheap shot at someone who loves their Guardian? Does it cost you anything ? No. I also happen to love my Necromancer and I’m learning to love my Mesmer. I am not learning to love anything about Elementalist. However, discussions about the pros and cons of those professions are covered elsewhere.

1) Score: 0 – Don’t need it/ Don’t want it. However, I appreciate the effort it takes to add new content and realize that not all new content will appeal to my playstyle.
2) Score: 0 – Obtaining ascended gear does not appeal to me in any way, shape, or form. Instead I will be leveling all of my characters and getting them the best armor and weapons I can afford.
3) Score: 0 – The lack of a tier after exotic is something that never bothered me or even occurred to me. The game is barely three months old and we need a level after exotic already? Faster, faster.
4) Score 0: I believe that paid expansion packs will kill this game unless I can outright buy all the fancy stuff instead of having to dungeon crawl for months. I could be wrong though. Look at The Sims franchise – all EPs cost money and they did/are doing very well. They even introduced Stuff Packs that sold well.
5) Score: 0 – I may be in the minority, but I simply like to play the game. I really don’t care about all the glitz and glamour. I do upgrade armor and weapons so my characters can survive. I recently bought a recipe to make a greatsword for my Guardian so off I went to farm the type of lodestone required to make it. The drop-rate is stupidly low. Sorry but I can’t/won’t waste my time farming the same 12 to 24 monsters along with several other people all hoping to get 30 of those suckers so I can make a greatsword. Like it would kill A-net to increase the drop-rate. Seriously.
1. I loved playing my Necromancer and Mesmer in GW1 and I love playing those professions in GW2. Very different but both very cool. I do miss my Dervish from GW1.
2. I liked playing around with builds in GW1 but I really like how you can change skills on the fly in GW2. I liked that Necromancers had more build options in GW1. In GW2 they seem to be more limited I think.
3. I like many of the armor sets from GW1 better. Even though my Necro had a set of Obsidian, I like him better in Elite Luxon. My GW1 Mesmer still looks better in his Obsidian Armor than any of the Mesmers I’ve seen in GW2. Many of the sets in GW2 look clownish or like something you’d see in a Mardi Gras parade.
4. I got a full Mercenary pack for GW1 and was able to have clones of all my main characters travel with me. I really miss that. However, I can’t even imagine setting up a hero or mercenary in GW2 – the cost would be enormous to kit them out.
5. I hate to say this, but I miss being able to observe PvP matches. Many of my friends were avid PvP-ers in GW1. It was cool to see them in action. I learned a lot from watching matches and MATs.
Edited to add: Targeting – I still prefer the GW1 target mechanism to the way it is in GW2. Target the closest meant just that – not the closest enemy at full health out of aggro range.

I agree – the Asura animations are extremely well done. I also like their movement while idling and some of their battle comments just fit them perfectly. I love to see an Asura Warrior or Guardian hauling a greatsword or hammer around. Being attacked by an Undead Asura wielding one of those weapons is comical even though they can be deadly.
The armor pieces might be listed under another name or they could be listed as whatever material they use – like cotten linen, etc. According to Wiki they’re also known as Devout Armor http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Devout_armor
I had something similar happen with a set of recipes I got for light armor from a karma vendor in Snowden Drifts. The names were different.
I like that set you want to make. I guess I’ll be making a trip to buy the recipes later today.
I just found this guide today and used it with two characters. Not only did they level quickly, it helped me clear out a ton of stuff from storage.
OP: Thank you so much for taking the time to keep track of all the steps, write them all down and for sharing the guide with us. Kudos!
It really depends on what you think your main character will use – if it’s armor then stick with Armorsmith. Before you decide, take a look at the type of armor you want for your character and then look it up on the Trading Post. Then decide if it would be worth it for you to level Armorsmith to make the armor you want or to buy it as a set or as separate pieces from the Trading Post.
Same applies to Weaponsmith. Decide what weapon do you want and then price it on the trading post and compare how much it would be to buy it or level the trade and make it.
Cooking seems like it would be easy because of all the all cooking ingredients you get via drops and harvesting but it’s not really. It’s a money sink. The cost of jugs of water and condiments all add up. Again price the consumables you’re after on the trading post.
So, go with the trade that will give you then end product that you want for your main character and stick with that.
Thank you for at least trying to get out new content. It’s threads like this that prove that no matter how poorly something is done, there are people who will appreciate it.
I felt that the Lost Shores event was designed and delivered with a smirk. I’m very disappointed in how this event was handled. If I were running the company I would be having a serious chat with people this morning and some of them would be looking for employment elsewhere.
This is my take on the thoughtless way this event was presented to the player base:
Phase 1: Let’s include a couple of scavenger hunts that involve NPCs in various locations. Then make sure that the NPCs are missing or glitched. That way players can experience the fun of wasting money using our glorious Waypoints only to find other players there. Hey, at least they’ll use Chat to talk to each other. Make sure that communication pertaining to the entire event is as incomplete as possible.
Phase 2: We here at A-net heard that “some” of you had trouble with lag or disconnecting or couldn’t finish activities from Phase 1. Too bad for you. Of course we never experienced any of those problems playing or testing any of it in our private la-la land. Move along. Note to staff: Make sure that communication continues to be as incomplete as possible. And whatever you do, make sure that you do not use the official forum to communicate anything that could be construed as helpful.
Phase 3: Also known as the proverbial carrot on the stick phase or “build it and they will come” no matter how badly they’ve been treated. Cut to official forum thread – “OFFICIAL: Boss Picture thread” where we can demonstrate how truly oblivious we are to their concerns. Hey, look we made it! Too bad you didn’t or couldn’t.
I convinced two friends sign up for this game in order to check it out. Neither one came back after Friday.
I just wanted to add my thanks as well. The event has been a lot fun. The graphics are outstanding. I like that the event includes various types of activities for just about every type of player. Keep on rocking ArenaNet!
The NPCs that I’ve seen are usually Rangers and/or Guardians. They seem to be very sturdy.
I love the exploration aspect of this game. I’m still leveling so I haven’t been to a lot of areas yet – especially the super hard ones that I’ve read about. My highest is a level 50 Elementalist who reached Bloodtide Coast a few weeks ago. I am definitely struggling with him there because I simply don’t understand how the mobs work. Next is a level 46 Necromancer who just reached the same area. I’m curious to see how he handles the mobs there. So between exploration and my curiosity about the strengths and weaknesses of the various professions I still have a lot to do.
Someone posted that the game changes as you get into the higher level areas and I’m beginning to see that, if Bloodtide Coast is an omen of things to come.
I had some NPCs help out in a Dredge mine one time – it almost seemed like they were baby-sitting my character. They are a very nice touch.

I’ve been having problems with persistent game freeze since about September 26. Prior to that the game ran fine for me. I submitted a ticket to support and they have been very helpful. The problem still hasn’t been resolved – I still experienced game freeze last night but it’s getting to be less frequent and support continues to help which I appreciate.
I wish that people who say that the game runs perfectly for them would post their specs so we’d all know what to get or aim for. Some zones are downright dangerous to be in when the game freezes up.

I have been having major problems with Caledon Forest since last Friday. In fact I had to abandon a character there because that area kept freezing my game, which is detailed in a ticket submitted to support regarding persistent game freeze. The Grove is, and has been, practically unplayable for me as well.
I get no error code, the game just repeatedly freezes and recovers which makes jumping puzzles, getting to Vistas, completing skill quests and Hearts quite challenging. I have noticed that this seems to happen more with one character than any of my others.
I think they already fixed the bug that lets Elemenatlists do any damage. Mine was doing a simple Personal Story quest when I noticed that he kept missing his enemies with his staff. Ok, then let’s try scepter – still missing eh? Ok, then let’s try daggers – you missed again?! When he did manage to accidentally hit one of them he did next to no damage. So if he has to use daggers to actually damage an enemy then I better see him with heavy armor and the ability swap weapons faster.
Incident:121003-000341
I just submitted a detailed support ticket regarding the problems I’ve experienced, to varying degrees, with persistent game freeze since September 26. Up until September 26, Guild Wars 2 ran fine for me. Yesterday the game was pretty stable – it still froze up rather frequently but it always recovered. Today the game is unplayable because of the number of times it froze and I had to restart my computer while trying to do some Vistas in Metrica Province. I can play just fine in the major cities, the freeze hits when I enter an explorable area and in certain parts of Lion’s Arch. I also attached a copy of the Guild Wars 2 Test text file.
This is part of the response I just received from support:
IMPORTANT: YOU WILL NOT RECEIVE AN ADDITIONAL RESPONSE TO THIS E-MAIL UNLESS YOU UPDATE YOUR QUESTION.
You are receiving this automated message based on information provided in your original submission that indicates that we may be able to answer your question with the information provided below regarding the Hall of Monuments.
My question was not about the Hall of Monuments – it was about the game freezing up. So should I re-submit my ticket as “Persistent Game Freeze?”

I got that warning while I was trying to create a Sylvari character the other night. Trying to figure out how “Glow” works with their skin color and patterns, plus looking at facial sliders took longer than the game expects for you to throw a character together. Plus I was taking notes.
Thank goodness, botters can stay in the game indefinitely because they move around.
The game may have only been out for a few weeks but they’ve had a long time to work on it. There are still too many basic things that are bugged. Seriously, how hard is it to make sure that something as basic as skill quests in all zones aren’t bugged or broken?
Last night I traveled through Diessa Plateau and found so many things that are “off” that I just quit the zone and put it on a growing “to do” list of areas I have to go back to because something needs to be fixed.
Defeat the giant assaulting the Town of Nageling … he can keep it.
There should not be mobs in personal story quests. And your primary enemy should not have more functional allies than you do. Yes, the quests can be done as they are now but really, what’s the point?
The Human – Never joined the Circus story line has you face off against a Ringmaster who has three functional allies plus several mesmerized bystanders. And who do you have? Your NPC friend who dies pretty fast after getting hammered by the brute who accompanies the Ringmaster and the other guy who jumps around a lot. And where is your pal Logan Thackeray, the alleged Guardian? Oh, there he is … dead near the Ringmaster’s feet where you can’t get to him to revive him because you’re running around trying to stay alive while your skills cool down. Targeting an enemy in this game is another story. So you realize that your best option is to die repeatedly in order to regenerate health and skills faster. Failure is fun. Say it six times and you’ll believe it.
Later you get get to engage in trial by combat against an evil wicked Minister who chooses as his second … a brute with knock downs. And what are your choices? By this point I had figured out that Logan is not a great helper so I picked the Mesmer. She stayed alive and was actually useful.
From here on out when I make a Human character they are going with the Dead Sister story chain because the Ringmaster sequence just sucks. I have a Necromancer doing the Dead Sister sequence, as he levels, and so far it’s been somewhat more balanced. Although I still think mobs have no place in these quests.
ETA: Someone posted earlier that “you’re doing it wrong” if you expect to play through these quests with one set of skills. That may be true unless you play them as you level, in which case you don’t have a lot to work with. But let’s just erroneously assume that everyone who has trouble is just doing it wrong, m’kay?
(edited by RoxBuryNine.4210)
Well Toby, you’re right. The POI isn’t glitched. After reading your hint, I found a YouTube video showing how to get it done. Thanks for the tip.
As stated in the Topic title, the Point of Interest for Hrothgar’s Pass in Snowden Drifts is glitched in that it does not register as completed. I tried it several times yesterday and again just now – still broken. Usually a Moose spawns right at the spot where the Point of Interest is shown on the map. Running in spirals around the Moose, standing inside it, and killing it does not get the Point to register as complete.
On another note, the Skill Challenge in Brisban Wildlands Hidden Lakes was, indeed, fixed. I was just able to complete that which wrapped up that zone for my character. Thank you.

Ticket 120913-000666 submitted 09/12/2012
I submitted this ticket after getting “Transaction Failed” following an attempt to purchase gems using a credit card that I’ve had for years. A representative of Bank of America was on the phone with me when I attempted to purchase gems. When the transaction failed, the rep suggested that I contact support because the problem wasn’t at their end.
This afternoon (09/17/2012) I received a follow-up from support which said that: “In reviewing your account, I can see that I am able to override your purchase restrictions for 48 hours. Please make your purchase within this time frame. If you are unable to make the purchase within that time, you may need to contact us again.” The e-mail also included a link to the support forum saying I could review and update my ticket at this site.
Acting on this information I once again tried to purchase gems. The transaction failed. So I am submitting this update per the instructions in today’s e-mail from support.
Update 09/19/2012: Today I was finally able to purchase Gems. I contacted my credit card company again today to make sure that I am billed for only one purchase from NCSoft and that it was the one I made today. I consider this matter closed.
I hope that Gem Cards become a reality because I would prefer doing business with a local retailer.
