This boss took my static group 2 wipes to figure out his whole strat 3 weeks ago. Since then we have killed him with 0 effort since. His abilities are EASILY countered and dodged.
Having said that I will add that coming into this fight with survivability utilities makes this fight go waaaay smoother.
I had to add the last part so I dont recieve another forum infraction for
“Your post was rude and dismissive”.
Want to know a neat trick about rangers? Stand away from a ranger at 600+ range and quickly spasm left and right with your movement…..
Know what this does? it makes the arrow Ai try to guess where your about to run and you can end up taking 0 damage . This tactic can be used while attacking keeps and no ranger on the fricken wall can hit you with anything but AE abilities.
Psst also do this maneuver as your running away from a ranger. (90% of the arrows he fires will miss you as you run away.
This trick works with ANY ranged NPC as well like the deadshots in Arah and the snipers in CM.
Now that you know this and know that ranged rangers can have thier dmg nullified by EVERY CLASS in the game.. do you still think any ability the ranger has is OP?
Downed state is not dead. A lot of bosses have these 1 shot mechanics ON PURPOSE to put people in the downed state so that your OTHER team mates can get you back up. You people are stuck in the mentality that downed means dead and not taking any utilities that counter the downed state like warrior rez banner, ranger search and rescue etc.
Im done trying to teach people simple game mechanics. Team coordination isnt simply everyone speccing tankiness or dps. In fact the most successful teams are specced in a wide variety of abilities.
The game is NOT broken. The mentality of most of its players are because of weak gameplay of other MMO’s.
BTW and addressing the part where I sound like an elitist. There are elitist in every section of humanity. Its ONLY those who can not achieve something that will make excuses to why they cant. As a good friend once told me, “Being called an elitist just means you achieved something the other person could not”.
I reread your latest post and the section about the world dragons. Lets take the ice dragon for example. How many people on your server are still dying by the dozens? On HoD 30+ people die and have to respawn on that dragon every time. Why? Mostly due to the dot. None of those people even think to look down and notice the blue ice they are standing on is the cause of the dot. Get off the ice and the dot fades away. I continuously see people run straight at the dragon over and over trying to get a whack in only to die and then speak in chat about how hard and unfair it is for melee. I just completed the dragon event on my alt 40 warrior without a single death or decap and I did it all in melee. Funny thing is, I am not the best player I have ever seen or met. Im just not stupid.

Only you and I are reading this Hell. The people these post are talking about are looking for a TL;DR and finding none have already moved on to the next post to whine in.
Dont mistake my disdain of stupidity for that of ignorance. Ignorant people are great gamers who just dont know any better but can and will learn. That isn’t the majority of the MMo crowd anymore tho. This has been proven in so many countless games since WoW’s release. The genre was stagnant until GW2 released. Reading some of the latest dev post tho tells me the whiners have won yet again and soon the lowest common denominator will get what they want.
Nope. Ive been 80 since the 3rd day and have completed every explorable mode in the game.
I get what you mean. Its my opinion tho that these people can not be taught in the first place. They know that they are the where the money is and that if they whine loud enough, the devs will give in. These people are not interested in challenge or earning anything. If the devs just gave them the loots straight to their backpacks they all would be perfectly happy.
You cant teach people who dont want to learn.
I want to thank you devs for some of the best dungeons runs I have ever experienced since EQ1. My static group and I have had a blast the last couple weeks and will remember how great they were before the big dumbing down of ’12 begins.
These dungeons were pretty well thought out and some of the boss fights were amazing in their nuances. The fact there wasnt a healer or a tank made these encounters exponentially better. Every person had to pull their weight instead of 1 or 2 members carrying the rest of the group.
I applaud all of you content devs for a job well done.
RIP some of the best dungeon design in 10 years.
Yea I did. This post and its ignorance is why the devs will nerf dungeons so the dumb people can do them. That pisses me off. Whats worse is these dungeons are actually really really well designed by some of the best devs I have ever met. Its a shame their hard work is going to get changed because of these same ignorant people.
Here let me give you a general tip on how to get thru any dungeon trash without a death. Bring a thief with a smoke field and have your ranged fire thru it. Frankly in my opinion, if you cant figure out these mechanics you dont need or deserve to run these dungeons.
This post is the epitome of players who don’t understand the game mechanics. lets begin with your 1st point…
1)Dungeon mobs AND bosses can be controlled with CC. In fact to be successful in dungeons you MUST CC. Bosses have this nifty mechanic where it has stacks or “charges” of stability and once those are gone you get a chance to land a CC and then it refreshes and you have to burn them off again. This is where group coordination comes in. So on your 1st point you are completely WRONG.
2) Every boss in this game has a tell for EVERY move they make. It is either the red circles OR its an animation. Most people are so intent on looking for red circles that they totally miss the animations. lets take subject Alpha for example. A lot of people die to the inline earth spike and whine that there no tell. There is infact a tell but most people miss it because of the huge amount of red circles he also uses. The tell is he raises his fist while turned to you and slams it into the ground. Just because YOU are missing tells doesn’t mean that they aren’t there. So on point 2 you are completely WRONG.
3) If you think all the bosses become tank and spank or that thats the only strategy that is effective then its no fricken wonder you are failing and are reduced to 1 button dps. Lets take Gigantus in Arah. A boss that most pugs can not pass. He sure in the hell isn’t tank and spank. In fact you need a wide range of utility skills to get past him without graveyard deaths. let me list a few. Warriors with rez banners. Rangers with search and rescue. Guardians with group stability to get members out of his bubble. and a few more that I am not gonna list and give away strats. So on point 3 you are again completely WRONG.
Now the bosses and encounters I listed are not the only exceptions either.Yes there are a few tank and spanks but only a few. Frankly, all of the whiners on this board saying the encounters are too hard need to learn how to play. You don’t have a ton of videos to go watch like in WoW where all you have to do is copy what someone else has already figured out.
My static group has finished EVERY SINGLE explorable and they are all doable without a single death. In fact I have died only 1 time in the last week.

Once again a company gives into the whiniest people to have ever stepped foot on planet earth. I just cant understand why these companies cant figure out that dumbing content to the lowest common denominator(read: adverage WoW casual) means that these people get what they want and leave within a month. Then the people who enjoy a challenge leave in the same month because guess what? Theres no challenge.
Oh well give in to them I guess. Its where the money is. Well at least till their ADHD kicks in and they move to the next shiny game.
edit: if your going to make this change at the very very least put the tokens on the last boss of a wing .

Complete rework of the pet system. These pets are the worst pets I have every had in an MMO.
It was already done in the last patch. You guys wont quit till the dungeons are like WoW’s where everyone beats them and we all move on to the next game.
Whats the definition of insanity? Doing the same thing over and over and expecting different results. Every new game that comes out, you WoWian’s™ turn it into WoW and its clones and then get bored a month later.
Anet please please quit giving in to these people.
It is for sure about 15% nerf in dmg. Its been confirmed on other sites. What i cant figure out is why. it was the last weapon a ranger had that was competitive to other classes with the same stats. Warrior longbow is hands down twice as good as our longbow and twice the dmg with the same stats. Same with swords and greatswords. A ranger will crit for 2k with 3k power and 50% crit dmg with a greatsword. Guardians and warrior will crit for 4 to 5k with exact same stats. The thief shortbow is now doing more dmg then the ranger shortbow with the same stats.
I just cant for the life of me figure out why they have nerfed the ranger had every patch since BWE1. The only logical reason is they are balancing around our pets and everytime they think pets have been fixed we get a hard nerf.
Heres a question Anet. Would you like for everyone to just roll warriors, guardians(healers) or elementalist and call it a day?
Nope and its a very good post Miya. I see your point. But I don’t agree thats its as broken as this board is making it out to be. My original Op was an honest thank you amid a swarm of hate. I should have left it at that. I would say i hope you get that last piece of gear but i already know you will get it.
Heres a question..
If the token reward system takes too long and the trading post cost too much, what is stopping you from crafting your own? Its a really really good crafting system. The rewards are as good as any gear in the whole MMO which isnt done in many MMO’s. It wont cost you a dime if you play the game and plan ahead.
No other true MMO in history has given you so many ways to get the best gear in the game and be on equal footing with the best of the best players.
Because a ton of people don’t find the concept of spending all their “Many” (sarcasm) hours of free time a day running around doing chores of collecting materials over and over again just to make gear that has no skill or challenge or reward feel outside of “Well I say there an farmed 5000 Iron Ore…that was challenging now I got me 1 exotic piece…time to do it all again.”
This is what I meant by you are not that intelligent. If you had any sense in you, you wouldn’t ask such a stupid question.
Ahh the name calling bait. Hmm should I take it? Naw like your opinion of my intelligence means anything to me.

Not WoW, not EQ, not DAOC, not any other true MMo gives everyone be it casual, pro, newcomer, old woman, or whatever the ability to be on equal footing in so many different ways. The best GW2 player in the world has the same stats as the 2 week old player.

Thank you Anet for not giving in to the screams and sticking with your design. My static group and I just completed all 4 paths in Arah today and we were totally blown away with some of the events and boss fights. The scenery and atmosphere is spot on and all 5 of us really enjoyed our 5 hours today.
In those 4 wings we ended up with 100 tokens or so but that wasn’t why we were running them. We wanted the challenge. We wanted the atmosphere. We wanted to have our efforts rewarded and we got exactly that.
It wasn’t the loot that rewarded us. It was the satisfaction of knowing we 5 are doing things that most here on this board says is impossible. We were rewarded with the laughs we shared when someone goofed and got capped or how one of our members just cant figure out that running ahead just isn’t bright.
All in all, it was a fantastic day of dungeon crawling and we want to thank you for it. We haven’t had this much challenge in a game since Eq1.
Thanks.
Let me re-write this:
“Thank you ArenaNet for not giving into the QQing today, because me and my 4 buddies were in the first group of 80s who didn’t get shafted in the “Kitten” and got to free farm out CoF gear before you ruined the game for everyone else. Now we have the gear to viably run Arah, so keep up the good work only catering to me and my 4 friends and make sure you don’t screw us too because were the last happy people you have left."
Signed,
The guy who has no idea what the problem of today is.
Umm CoF gear wont make you 1 bit stronger than the exotics you can buy from the trading post. The ONLY reason to get the gear is for the looks . Everyone who logs in can have the exact same stats I have by going to the trading post.
So why are you doing something you really really hate that doesnt measure up to your standards when you can get the same stats by crafting or buying them?
The game isnt broken. Your mentality is.
You really aren’t intelligent… one its horsekitten for you to sit here and tell me you and your buddies aren’t all in CoF gear.
Secondly to buy the Exotics for 3-5 gold if not more a piece on the TP you need to farm money. And now the repair cost > Money earned from dungeon grinding which means either way you slice this pie my friend you are thanking arenanet for screwing everyone else but you and your 4 buddies.
Roll another toon and join the crowd who got shafted lets see if you sing the same tune when you get to 80 on that character.
Bud you just don’t have a clue. I have over 200g already and I didn’t get it by running dungeons. I logged on day 1 and leveled weaponsmith as I leveled my character. I sell at least 1 weapon a day and depending on materials I have sold 4 a day. I don’t corner the market, i don’t undercut anyone. All I do is craft a weapon, sell it and boom gtg.
Oh and I am a jeweler as well.I have 2 pieces of CoF gear and have done all 3 paths in CoF. We didnt sit there and farm magg because we KNEW it would be changed.
I bet you right now I can level an alt and staert it out fresh with 0 help from my main and be ahead of you in days. Why? because i dont whine and think things cant be done. I just go do them.
2 types of people in this world and ONLY 2 types.
Those that get stuff done.
Those that dont.200g already? And not from dungeons. Clearly then something is broken and/or you’re exploiting. Screenshot to prove this 200g? And clearly whatever is broken isn’t dungeons, since you can oh so easily get 200g without doing them. You sell 1 crafted weapon a day? how do you think people could afford those weapons? possibly from dungeon rewards… right? oh my! you’da been kitttened without those dungeon rewards.
If you have any business instinct at all you are rolling in cash. I did nothing special except crafting to make my gold. I didn’t exploit. I didn’t cheat. It can be done.
Also, friends make everything better. Even things I detest, like moving or repainting. And I did have fun today doing the dungeons for tokens to get my final Nightmare piece.
However, that doesn’t stop me from being able to look at the money and experience rewards at the end and think, “That is super low.”
If you noticed i haven’t said much on what I thought of the reward system other than we came out ahead when we left. If we don’t take into account the bagged items yea we didn’t leave with much more than we went in with but we did leave with more. Counting the sell able and salvageable loot we 5 left with at least 1g apiece. I personally had to salvage 4 or 5 bags full and I use 15 slot bags. I then took those mats and made another 12g on the tp later.
I can see where people are complaining. I just don’t agree with them. The rewards are there. The rewards just aren’t what most people are used to getting from other games. hence my statements that people mentality is broken not the game.
My OP isnt rubbing salt in anyones wounds. Its an actual thank you to Anet for what we experienced today.

I could spend 100 painful hours (plus another 100 trying to get people together) “working” for an armor set in what’s supposed to be a fun video game, so that I can lord it over people in Lion’s Arch to show them that yes, I am part of the unemployed, masochistic MMO 1%. Or I could just stop playing because the game doesn’t really have anything else to offer in PvE. Who’s still going to be around for you to show off to in the coming months?
This is your hangup not mine. Don’t project it onto me. I went and made one of the personal mystic forges yesterday so that I don’t have to step foot into Lions arch. I could care less to have drooling people looking at my gear. My worth as a human being isn’t dictated by anyone’s appreciation of video game pixels. Oh btw I am 40, retired from the navy as a Master Chief after 21 years of service. I own my own home outright and guess what? I even take baths on a regular basis.

The game isnt broken. Your mentality is.
Sure the challenge is nice, but doing it 60+ times for armor skins, runes or Gifts for Legendaries makes it tedious and a huge grind.
My rogue took over a year’s worth of farming Molten Core just to get my pair of Nightslayer shoulders. But actually, I enjoyed every bit of it because I didn’t make getting the gear my sole purpose for playing the game. But the point is…putting in time and work for gear is nothing new.
What game are you playing? Guild Wars 2 hasn’t been out for a year. The whole point of the game according to developers was to take the grind out of conventional MMOs and make it something fun to play. Right now it’s all grind to get these armor skins.
You might think it was fun to do these runs for the first time, but seriously try to get the armor set. 60 runs lasting 1 hour each will make you want to kill yourself especially since they do not change. Sure there are 4 options, but you still will have to do each option 15 times if you keep changing them around.
Its only a grind because “you” are forcing it to be. We have completed every single explorable mode. Never did any of them for the tokens.
And for the guy who remarked, It only took you 5 hours or some crap. yea 5 hours of some of the best fun we have had in an MMo in 10 years.
oy, stop complaining about tokens and answer me!
(I agree that item costs are fine though. I have my full molten set and about 100-200 coins from all the other dungeons)
I’ll answer you. No I dont think the new system is broken. We came out ahead tonight on money without taking into account the items in our bags. We also dont die a lot either. Every one who enters a dungeon has a way to rez a person to prevent armor dmg death. Some classes have multiple ways. Our warrior has the rez banner, I have search and rescue, our gaurdian uses his shield, thiefs have smoke wall and stealth.
You can not walk into a dungeon with nothing but DPs talents and abilities and expect not to die. Go into 1 with a well rounded group and you have less actual deaths.
Guess what people. My static will go run another dungeon tomorrow. We might be back to Arah later this week. You guys are focused on getting something now now now instead of looking at it from a bigger picture of.. This is just 1 step of a bigger picture.
My post stands. The game isn’t broken. Your mentality is.
you dont seem to understand everyong wants the end game gear. ya your fine with waiting for it but not all of us can put in 5 hours of play time a day and normal parties cant finish that dungeon at all. so like i said for me to get that set with your party speed it will still take me 95 hours which is like 10 weeks for me and thats 1 set and of just grinding the same dungeon.
Its you sir thats missing the point. Dont do the dungeons for the gear. You wont be 1 bit stronger than the exotics you can buy from the TP. Fact of the matter is, only people who do things in a game for the sole reason of a pixel reward thinks the dungeons are broken. Those of us that know better are enjoying ourselves.
Real raiders and Pro’s know the loot isnt the reward.
You do realize that this means with a good party and voice communication it will still take 65 hours to get the set not including the weapon and those of us needing dual weps it will take 95 hours. Plus with random groups the dungeon is basically impossible as said by others. 95 hours of the same dungeon to get 1 of the 8 sets is stupid and no offense but if your don’t agree your stupid cause that is a grind fest which is what the designers said they don’t like so basically they don’t like their own game plus the fact that they could just make the tokens all the same and people that want to work hard to get stuff can still put in hundreds of hours for the legendary weps.
These dungeons aren’t ment to be pugged. In fact Anet has said it over and over and over. Your need to get everything now now now is the only reason you think it takes too long to get the gear.
Guess what people. My static will go run another dungeon tomorrow. We might be back to Arah later this week. You guys are focused on getting something now now now instead of looking at it from a bigger picture of.. This is just 1 step of a bigger picture.

“It wasn’t the loot that rewarded us.”
I think everyone can agree that a challenge is awesome, but being thoroughly disappointed by terrible loot doesn’t have to be a part of the equation.
We can have the best of both worlds, people. Don’t settle for anything less.
Did you miss the part about the 100 tokens ? Thats over half of 1 piece of epic looking gear in just 5 hours. Did I forget to mention that in those 4 runs I had to salvage 5 backpack full of items which I turned around and made 12g from crafting with latter ? Did I mention that we had very few actual repair deaths and all of us came away with more money than we went in with?
You people are just spoiled.

again not how hard it is..
jesus don’t you people get it?it’s the fking rewards, you get 2s for running it when repair cost 9s
Two words.
Dont Die.
Psst it can be done if you have group members who can get you up from a cap, rangers who use pet rez abilities, warriors who use the rez banner or just playing smart. No deaths = money made. You say it isn’t possible? My static and I are doing it as well as others.
The explorables are designed for competent, well organized groups. They arent ment to be puggable and has been stated as far back as last Nov that the dungeons were GW2 answer to raids and raiders. It makes me ecstatic that Anet isn’t caving in to the screams like other games and keeping with their design.
Want to do explorables? Get a group that works well together with a bit of coordination and get better at the game. Boom. Explores done.
This is simply not true. My static group has been clearing crucible now for a week with only 1 or 2 deaths in all 3 paths total. This dungeon is one of the better ones out there .
On a side note, when are all of these WoWians going to learn that GW2 dungeons aren’t about burning kitten down and DPS? Its about coordination, cc and combo fields.
My static tonight just finish path 1 thru 4 of Arah dungeon. Took us 5 hours or so to run all 4 paths. Good fun fights. Well designed. GG devs.
Hmm let me tell you why some people will do them. For fun. Yup thats right. My static and I would do these explore modes even if there were 0 reward. Why? because of the challenge. Unlike the WoW generation that has taken over the MMo industry, people used to do things without having to be bribed with loot.
The game isn’t broken. Your thinking is.
1) No one said it invalidated every argument. I did say that people just aren’t trying hard enough.
2) I don’t understand your comment. He gets 2 hours max a night to play and only when his duties are done. Why do you think i went into his room but to make sure he had done what he was supposed to do?
The kid isn’t some super freak gaming god. He does tho try his very best in everything he sets out to do. Maybe other people in this forum could learn a lesson from that.
I saw something tonight that has hands down told me the dungeons are easy. I had thought people were over exaggerating before about dungeons being too hard and wondered why my static group (which has completed every explorable in the game) was having such an easy time.
I walked into my sons room tonight after he had did his homework and chores to find my son in CO butler just dodging all over with his little Asura warrior smacking some mobs. I was a little impressed but I was thinking he must have gotten into a pretty good pug and they were carrying him. Nope. He was actually leading the party.
Now my son isn’t a gaming genius. He got this game because he made straight A’s all last year and it was the reward he chose. He gets to play 2 hours a night after everything is done and some on the weekends.
After he was done and the group broke up, I asked him how he came to be leading. he said he got into a pug yesterday and they showed him how to do it. Today, he logged on and lead his own group.
These dungeons are not hard. People just aren’t trying hard enough.
Most bosses in this game are either too easy, too hard, or just plain exploitable.
Easy is tank and spank the entire fight, set autoattack and wail away for 5 minutes until the boss dies.
e.g. Fyonna in TA second path
Hard is a boss that does 2k ranged autoattacks on guardians that have an attack speed rivalling that of a ranger’s shortbow on quickness buff. God forbid you are a squishy profession, you get to take 3-4k damage instead.
e.g. Caster boss in HotW first path with unlimited adds, Greater Nightmare Vine in TA with 15-30 second respawn timer blossoms.
Exploitable is….well, pretty much all the dungeon paths being farmed at the moment. Most bosses there are downright bugged and not working the way they should, or just too faceroll.
All of these hard bosses are more than doable, I must say this, but they are obviously flawed and frustrating to deal with. For that caster boss in the first path of HotW, you must have projectile reflection, or you exploit it by a method I will not elaborate here.
I like difficulty by means of combat mechanics. Not by artificially inflating damage of a boss then trying to pass it off as something intellectually and emotionally engaging.
God see this post is the perfect example of bad gameplay. Instead of trying to exploit bosses why dont you do them correctly. Dont pull Fyonna out of the room. Kill her where your supposed to and take the adds like a man. Its extremely easy.
As for the caster in HotW, here 2 ideas that we use to kill him.. bring a thief with smoke screen(btw this ability is the best thief ability they have for dungeons) or bring a ranger and hav the ranger get a bear pet out. Put the pet on no attack and then keep the bear between you and the boss. The pet will take every hit. It works for us for 3 ranged. Is that exploiting? Nope. Its using the abilities you have in a legit way.
I think Colin is right on point when he politely tells all of you to “L2P”
I have completed every explorable in the game. They are not too hard. In fact in my opinion they are too easy. All of the boss mechanics are extremely easy to figure out and are reused so much in every dungeon, it becomes a snore fest. The last week, my group and i have been running them in our pure magic find gear just to get more loot and make them more challenging.
We aren’t gaming elite either. We just aren’t stupid.
Please Anet do not give in to these people. Orr is fine and in fact could use a bit more difficulty . People will never learn how to actually play if you don’t make them. Humans will take the path of least resistance every single time.
This is the same people who are screaming for explorable modes to be made easier. I have done every explorable in the game successfully and havent died in a dungeon in days. They also could stand to be harder.
Once these people actually learn how to play your game, they wont have a problem with the zones. You take away the reason for them to learn tho and you wont ever hear the end of the, “This is too hard” crowd.
So I was able to actually see the longbow and short bow on my character today. I have 3 of the 4 parts for the shortbow but after seeing what they actually look like, I will be selling what I can on the TP. Both bows look like absolute crap.
Both bows are as fruity as you can get. I guess Anet thought only females played rangers.

Also people complaining about wipes and deaths. What do you think happens to those top end guild who write up the raid strats most of you use in other games? If you cant handle the difficulty, you arent ment to be doing the explore modes.
Even saying this, there are paths in every dungeon that is CONSIDERABLY easier than others and still allows casuals to get the tokens for the same quality gear you can craft..
Please Anet do not make these dungeons easier. What many forget here, is that these 5 man explorable is JUST LIKE the raid content of other games. Everyone isnt supposed to do them.
So far I have completed all but 2 explorable paths and in my opinion they need to be harder. Nothing in those paths are hard except knowing when to dodge and when to attack.
All of you casuals screamed for years in WoW saying it wasn’t fair raiders get better gear to raid and most top raiders said we don’t do it for the gear and you laughed. Well heres your proof. We are doing the content for 0 power upgrades and having a blast.
Call me elitist or whatever. The fact is, these explore modes are for the raid oriented people in the MMo community. Anet should leave them as is. The rest of you have the whole rest of the game.
1. There are bigger issues that Anet should be focusing on instead of this.
2. Medium Armor is the best looking IMO. Look at the guild medium armor for an example.
3. Ranger does not imply in any way “ranged”. A ranger is someone who wanders about living off the land. Traditionally (LoTR for ex) rangers use greatswords and bows… I don’t understand why people think greatswords should not be used by this class…
4. My pet almost doubles my DPS, gives me around +70-350 damage per hit, and gives me 6 seconds of quickness every 60 seconds. The only reason why people don’t like pets is because they don’t understand how they work.
If your pet is doubling your dps then you are doing something wrong. I mean reaaaallly wrong. There is no way a lynx or any other pet comes close to doubling my dps. Currently the only viable use for the pets outside a 1 on 1 be it pvp or pve is a quickening buff bot.
I see lots of people complain about the complainers and say pets are good. If you think our pets in the current game are good, then you aren’t playing at the top end of the game.
Just for example, with my current build and gear, I can kill one of the giants in Orr in 7 secs. This is without the pet ever touching it.
Our pets suck unless you have a bare minimum of 15 points spent in beast mastery. with 15 points at least you can use them as buff bots. They are completely useless in everything except solo game play. At 30 in beast mastery, my bears will take a dirt nap in dungeons before the 15 sec swap timer is up and this is while I am actively controlling it to avoid big hits.
In Pvp they are EASILY (did I mention EASILY) avoided by just side stepping. They can not touch a moving target and the ranged pets can not hit a moving target because the projectile speed is so slow. This is assuming your pet lives longer than 5 secs in a mass battle.
In a 1 on 1 fight the pets have some semi usefulness be it PvP or PvE. otherwise they are best used as quicking buffers and set to non attacking stance.
Add all the above AND the f2 skill problems and you get a crappy class mechanic that we have been “balanced” around twice in beta.

Mine works about 1/4 of the time. Most of the time I go no where or about 2 steps back. This happens if there is “any” difference in inclinations around you. It only works correctly on flat even ground and then about half the time. The retreat on it is sooooo short that its near useless anyways. I measured it, and the retreat is shorter than 1 dodge roll backwards.
But don’t complain too loud. Shortbow is the LAST DPS weapon rangers have if you actually want to kill something.
I’m not bashing you. I am giving you an example of how you might deal with your mistake as well as not making further mistakes in the future. Don’t depend on other people to confirm that they made a mistake as well so that you don’t feel as bad. Instead, learn from it and take charge of your own game play.
In my opinion, the pets are worse than they were 2 patches ago. My bear pet with 15 points into beast line was tanking champions. Today he cant tank the champion i have been killing all week.
I used to use my bears as a semi tank in dungeon before 2 patches ago. For some reason they are getting slaughtered now with no change in skill set up on my part. I mean the ranger pets are trash before.. now its just getting ridiculous.
My biggest fear is they will try to “even” us rangers out again when they think they have pets fixed like they did in beta.
Honestly all I see on these bug forums are people crying because they didn’t read the quest text and/or didn’t pay attention. This isn’t another MMo where you just click stuff to get thru the text. I have no sympathy for these people.
My 9 year old son plays this game.. hes now 76 with 0 help from me. He messed up buying his 2 gold skill point book and bought the second 1 again. Did he cry and come to this forum saying people shouldnt be allowed to buy the same book twice? Nope. He shrugged his shoulders and went back to killing stuff. When he got enough gold again in 2 lvls he made dang sure he bought the right book.
I was proud of him. Wonder what your parents think.
The longer they wait on this issue, the more work correcting it they make for themselves. More people every day completing this quest.
