The problem in Shoutbow is the “bow”, not the “shout”. The Bow is the problem with Warrior period.
Look at all the meta or builds rated Good or better. All use Bow.
Nerf the bow not the Warrior. Imo they should just ban Warrior from using a bow, that would take care of it nicely.

if boon corruption … was more frequent it wouldn’t such a problem, I gave proposition about Curses quite a few times
-Replace Reaper’s Precision with a lesser version of Parasitic Contagio (7-8%) that works in DSWhy would Parasitic Contagion have to be less effective if it was in a different tier? Or do you mean it should be nerfed if it actually worked all the time?
Also, wouldn’t it be counterproductive to replace Reaper’s Precision with Parasitic Contagion if you think our viability in the current meta hinges on being able to frequently corrupt boons? So in that case, who is going to drop Path of Corruption for it?
And another problem that has been pointed out several times already is that not only has the Curses grandmaster tier no power option, but the master tier doesn’t have any viable PvE trait other than Banshee’s Wail. And while the warhorn is really good for both condition and power builds, it scales a lot better with power and synnergizes better with a melee weapon like dagger.
So basically, the trait that replaces Reaper’s Precision in the Curses master tier should be a PvE condition trait. And Parasitic Contagion just doesn’t fit that requirement.
Who uses PoC or WH trait or WH itself in PvE O.o? Parasitic Contagion is already used in current PvE condition necro builds. The reason for Parasitic Contagion decrease is to not rely on just 1 trait in 1 line for 1 spec for sustain we should find in all lines and not make the others (more)incompatible with condition necro. For curses power GM I already said
-Add a new GM that grants crit damage based on conditions on foes

About shoutbow if boon corruption especially in AoE(what are you waiting for devs?!) was more frequent it wouldn’t such a problem, I gave proposition about Curses quite a few times

-Increase terror damage by 10%
-Changes Lingering Curse to give AoE 180 condition damage to you and allies 600 radius,reduces scepter CD by 20% and improve all conditions durations by 25-33%(mayble lower)
While Blood Magic is not really friendly to condition necro, CPC having a hit proc would help but it’s all about procing it enough with it can’t do and I feel like Blood Magic shouldn’t be the main way of recovery for condition necro, Parasitic Contagion and healing off consumed/transfered/absorbed conditions should be because nothing prevents us from going in Spite Healing which is for all. With Unholy Sanctuary it’s the only non minion GM in Death Magic and since now pretty much all necro specs will stay overtime in DS it could be useful. What we need now is utilities working in DS and some way of interacting with healing from allies.

Why not just remove initiative altogether and give thieves proper cooldowns to manage, just like everyone else has to?
Every class should use initiative that was the first mistake in balance

He is probably saying something I have said before to others that when people playing other classes complain about thieves being able to spam I counter by saying “If you could spam abilities you would too”. Now imagine if those two classes had initiative and how often they would spam those attacks.
Not spam and the effectiveness of the skill is reduced due to initiative, thief has a greater control over it’s weapons skill and cast times are not harsh I would love to have initiative for my necro and ranger. That control is why I main one backed up by the active playstyle played right is very rewarding. Every class should use initiative I’m dead serious.
On topic about stealth like in another thread thief wouldn’t stay overtime in stealth if it wasn’t dangerous to come out same for “resetting”, the bigger the fights the less effectiveness even in 2v2, he won’t be dueling you unless he knows he has a chance, the counter play is revealed,team fights and obviously not the AI syndrome, it’s not your fault you want to play zerker there is always something superior somehown.
Off-topic devs don’t forget to add Trapper Runes in PvP.

Lol, first of all I was on fresh air, so no I don’t have million condi removals. Second of all, most condi removals are in attunements, if you cannot switch to the attunement, you’re not going to get the cleanse.
I use no cantrips.
Using ER over SoR is the stupidest idea I’ve ever heard. Even staff eles use SoR, because ER is that bad. If you face competenent players it will get interrupted every single time.
It wasn’t nades, it was from downstate. It was a lot of RNG, therefore I couldn’t have predicted it.
I wasn’t on staff.
I had focus, but it was on cooldown.
I didn’t do any mistakes, the only one that could be taken as a mistake was not considering I can end up with so much chill due to RNG. Using Magnetic Wave during a fight is hardly a mistake, then I’m left with one condition removal.
That’s a fresh air issue not every spec can have it all :/ and why use engi downed state when it’s RNG based :/??

Boons and cleansing in AoE format are in rampage mode right now making regeneration stack in intensity when they are adding resistance and even more AoE boons and cleansing is nonsense even if burn and poison stack will stack in intensity. You need counterplay.
This is a fairly good point, but it does bolster OP’s argument. Corrupt Boon converts regen into poison, so if poison is going to stack intensity, it would only make sense for Regen to also stack intensity.

@zinks You lost me at at other games, a thief best stomp is stealth even on s/d unless you want to blow an utility,a whole trait line is dedicated to it even out of SA stealth traits exist, stealth is bigger part of thief than evades to the point of stealth attack mechanic, GW2 thief gave up what other rogue like classes have for stealth and evades I can’t compare C9’s assasin or shadow to it or from any other games. It’s just like me wanting the removal of the HP part of DS but it’s would take a while to properly distribute sustain to the rest of the class just like with suggestions in this thread, if you don’t see usable counters make them the Iwin button is not coming.

You’re going around the subject as usual, on thief you die when you decide to die, an incontestable truth, you dieing to random aoe, it is exclusively your problem, let’s repeat this part :random aoe, nobody is targeting you, nobody can in a normal scenario, you die because you kittened up! On all other professions you die whether you want it or not, once you get locked down!
And you have to worry only about enemy thief if he’s decent ; try to play a non stealth profession and you have to worry about everything that even sniff in your direction…see how much the enemy team care about you going invulnerable for 4s every 50s.
Also comparing the condi removal of a fresh air ele with that of a d/p thief…do we play the same game? With a 15s CD healing that removes all impairing conditions…a thief is leagues above a simple fresh air…really..maybe it’d be better to try fresh air outside duel servers and against decent opponents in a team
I’ve been enduring on necro(power recently of course tired of the devs kittening conditions) for quite a while now it’s not as bad as you say lol, I’ve caught off guard thieves many times before but maybe it’s because I main one if anything I’m more worried of mesmers,rangers and usual necro counters. So you are an ele I presume?? About resetting with thief that’s intended but lucky for you this is a team game conquest or not and not “he cheated and I can’t get my loot/kill”.
Don’t compare professions on only 1 aspect, 1 good burst/cc set up will end thief even my necro can facetank in AoE format longer than that. Just need to plan around it but again I do play all classes.

Stealth needs more counter play, and it is being given more counter play. But unfortunately instead of the basic stealth system being given soft counters (like CCing people outa stealth) they are giving classes individual hard counters….like guardians getting The Hammer of Dawn. Seriously we did not need that thing. give counter play to stealth, rebalance theif, all will be happy

You want counter vs Stealth? Fine, give thieves (or any other stealth users) counter to blocks. Block has just as many ‘counters’ stealth has.Not really, thief in stealth can still die to aoe and procs, while a class with invuln is safe for the period of time.
That would be 3-4s every 50-60s..a fair comparison to stealth which can be accessed for 1/5 of the time requirement, on top of this invulnerability does not drop target on you, everybody dies from aoe.
With stealth you have the chance to avoid the dmg, without stealth you must facetank the dmg.
You know the main difference between an ele and a thief?
The first will be priority target[ just watch ESL/WTS matches or just play normal tpvp pug match]; the latter will be the least one to be called as target…..’cause everybody knows how slippery thief is.
I play ele…I have a thief attached to my back, a ranger pew pew with no mercy, an engy trying to perma chill/lock me down along side a med guardian, basically I spent 3/4 of the match dealing with perma immobilize/chill and huge spike dmg
Tried thief s/d for few matches before..nobody even tried to target me and I was kittening terrible, I was randomly dodging and only died after “countless” mistakes.
The thief dies when he decides to die, a luxury that other professions do not possess, a luxury I have no interest in taking away but that cannot be ignored nevertheless
I’m in tears this reminds me of first days on thief I was trolling so hard with evades off point but I was still the center of attraction and my team kept winning lol until the opponents became good of course such nostalgia. This still happens especially with shoutbow when it holds 2 home or has players chasing him off point for the kill but not focusing him on point fights.
I would recommend you to keep playing your thief and swap to another from time to time, the fragile AI syndrome encountered when fighting thief or pretty much any rogue like class is pretty common I remember it from C9 as well vs shadows and assasins.

I lost hope for removal of the HP bar of DS it would take a while to distribute sustain to the rest of necro as well, DS just needs to be less restrictive especially with heals and utilities, I’m not sure why it’s here yet and we have to wait for trait changes when the power creep is happening.

also i love how people cry “omg thief can reset”…. and somehow forget to mention that the moment thief goes ooc their target is also ooc and gets to heal up…
i think it is hilarious to say that thief doesn’t get punished for failed attack… if anything thieves get punished the most for single mistake in game atm….
you don’t reset as a thief. you sit in stealth until crucial skills are off cooldown, like steal or withdraw, and then you go at it again. or you sit out invul skills in stealth, another gimmick that renders other classes’ defensive skills useless. thieves don’t get punished for single mistakes at all. thieves have on demand teleports that can save their kitten s in most situations and make cc useless if you don’t force the 2 stunbreaks before.
thief is also the only class in the game that is unkiteable as they have teleports that are not tied to cooldowns while other classes’ teleports are on a 30-40s cooldown. so if a thief wants to chase you he will do so and you will not get away most of the time.
the only classes that can face a thief are celestial classes that bring self sustain and a mix of direct damage and condition attrition or guardians because they have the needed aoe damage with good sustain and blocks, this will change though as soon as thieves will be able to run 3 traitlines, in fact thieves with vampire runes can already kill guardians because mist form will save them when they eat a mighty blow combo or get trapped by the ring.
the thief’s class design is broken and to fix it they would have to overhaul the whole class which is obviously not gonna happen.
they learned their lesson with energy ressource or why else do revenants have actual cooldowns on their skills + the energy cost.
I respect you as a player but thats totally wrong in any way possible.
How many games do you have on Thief, I wonder? Can you play it well like it should rotation and mechanically wise?Thief has a much lower error margin than any cele build + dps guard (in 1v1 and teamfights)
Either you need to consider having a good thief in your team to counter opponent’s thief or you must be doing something wrong.
Never had a problem vs comps with thieves at all, except vs very good thieves & teams, who can actually peel for their Thief.

If you’re looking at it this way, I think thief has a good amount of counters, considering over 60-70% of the community is running this in teams and certainly 80%+ in ESL/Top Tier play:
- Cele Shoutbow
- Cele Engi
- DPS Guard
- Cele Ele + 2nd Cele Shoutbow
- Thief and/or Mes (instead of Cele Ele or 2nd Shoutbow)
= that’s already 3 to 4 to 5 counterplayers for one single person, which is the opponent Thief
Thieves can’t fight head-on 1v1 for a point vs 90% of the meta builds while most other classes/builds actually can.
If the problem is that thief can disengage too easily, I would honestly say its in your advantage (match-wise)
Some builds have way less counters, really.
uhm thing is…zerker thief forces kind of all other zerker classes out of the game…meaning this: we don’t always want to play cele spec’s on other classes to stand a chance…we want fastpaced zerker builds as well and be viable on them…you’re just coming up with reasons to why thief is “fair” so it can be the only viable zerker build….tbh idc about cele builds but I have to cause of zerker thieves
There are also bunker,decap and condition specs but the boons and cleansing are out of control right now necro is low tier right now too, thief is not as strong as you would find them in every match neither the players using them. I wouldn’t say thief is the only viable zerker in conquest it’s design gives him an advantage for the mode but in no way it makes other unviable.

This remind of dhuumfire when they nerf condition necro as whole instead of only dhuumfire…if the trait is a problem adjust the trait and don’t kitten the skill for every other build/mode. If 60 CD is so short necro will like to have a word with you.
Because shadow refuge is such a clutch skill and with improvisation it is shorter than 60 CDs. There are a lot of skills that have a longer CD than shadow refuge but has less impact over all. Also shadow refuge without traits is 60 CD which is way too short for stealthing 5 people (including the downed) for 12 seconds. I don’t see why tweaking initiative is a problem when its only unique to thieves.
It’s location and animation is counterplay and again that would be the trait. Your suggestion about initiative is directed to a certain spec ignoring others I also the devs will go with the idea of stealth with cons.

So? It still does not affect thieves weapon skills. Weakness is for ALL classes, CD increase is for ALL EXCEPT thieves weapon skills. Anyway I just used this an example how thieves play victim all the time, yet instances such as a semi exclusion from a GM trait is clearly not being a victim.
Successful burst and evades are more important to thief but the hard counter is only vs 1 spec even if it’s the only one considered conquest meta.
A good thief will have no problem with a zerk ranger or any zerk class except medi guard.
I’m talking mesmer and I mentioned before that zerkers are not the only existing specs if you are not confident of encounters vs a thief as a zerker don’t put yourself in duel situations then. It’s a rock,paper,scissors concept but conquest does play a role as well.

I don’t even play anymore because you just can’t roam without constantly being killed by thieves. So tired of having you down to 20% health only to have you stealth then reappear with full health again to keep fighting. It is complete bs and you know it. You should not be able to stealth during combat unless it is to escape. Even then it would be cheap, but not as cheap as it is now.
if they made such change, anet would have to buff thieves to warrior lv (high HP, high survival etc.)… you wouldn’t like that lol

Answer #2, #4 is against design because baseline thief has only 12 initiative if Inf. Arrow cost 7 you can’t use it twice in a row, you have to at least be possible to use a skill twice in a row from thief’s design point of view, answer #2. Stop thinking duels.

Thieves will be getting access to the Panic Strike build with all the defensive Shadow Art traits (condi cleanse, 50% reduction, hp tick), don’t get too excited about fighting Thieves after the update.
I main thief,SA didn’t get buffed they just turned it into medic, why I would be happy fighting other thieves is the buff to condition/cc application on almost every class especially stacking burning but of course as usual I worry of necro, most just put themselves in vulnerable scenarios.

We will have ways to heal in shroud and you dont spend 100% of your time in it. I dont see a problem with how it will be once they change it.
Your suggestion totally guts ANY build which relies on the shroud mechanic for any long length of time and it would ruin the concept of the reaper. Its clearly mean to stay in its shrouded state. Look at all the life force gain it has even when in RS. Its auto and chilling force for a few.
I don’t know what build does not try to and is actually viable terromancer does and look at it’s state while not the only problem necro spends +70% in DS, not even MM the minions will just die unless that vampiric aura is good enough for them to survive wait even then it won’t be enough it’s all for their deaths, sure they are trying to allow our heals in DS but when it comes to benefiting from allies’ healing it’s not a real thing at least in action.
I’m still waiting for them to make Parasitic Contagion work in DS and not kittening Curses.

Don’t say “it should be X thing” without mentioning your reasons why.
While more than one class can fill a similar role they are not similar in action a sniper is somewhat a mix of war rifle with ranger Hunter’s Shot that’s not innovative enough. A rifle spear is just like it sounds or that minus shield you could call it a gunlance like in Monster Hunter but it’s just a more lighter spear like version of a bayonet either would be fine

@Zenith Not everything in GW2 is about dungeons if it was I would have uninstall a long time ago. It’s like saying condition mesmers are not a thing, GvG staff guardians are extinct, bunker guard never existed don’t be so narrow minded.

Also the fact that if you take Natural Abundance with Tranquil Balance and Shrouding Mists you get +60% outgoing heals and can heal a friend for over 4000 health every 2 sec for 10 energy with the tablet move skill as long as he picks up the tablet drop. That’s almost as much as a guardian’s shelter and that has a 30 sec cooldown.
Keep in mind that poison will stack soon. Beyond three stacks you can’t heal your target anymore. We can start to evaluate the Rev and Ventari as soon as all new features are working.
I’m pretty sure only the damage scales in intensity.

The rock paper scissor comparison only works when their numbers are the same. In a game where there are 6 papers, 1 scissor and 1 rock, the scissor is indeed overpowered.
Oh man do MoTD mesmers fear thieves just like condition or cele war, even more condi engi.

That reminds me of a guy who did a dungeon and failed at a boss. He and his friend change to zerk and suddenly they were able to kill the boss.
That doesn’t, however, mean much. There are plenty of reasons why someone might fail at something, and if your main problem is not having enough DPS, it’s hard to imagine zerker gear not helping.
But it’s like you NEED enough people with zerker (or other types of damage) otherwise you will fail. Which isn’t the “philosophy” by anet about “play the way you want”.
Well you need damage to succeed right? Most damage comes from stats that’s why it seems restrictive, two types of damage exist here direct and conditions.

The ability to hit first in a glass vs glass fights is bound to favor thief, guard endures it due to burn and constant and instant active defense/recovery but may not kill the thief. I did say that there are bunker,bruiser and condi specs specs I’m no zerker fanatic or hater but I dislike when the conversation is all about highest burst. My necro runs the risk of getting pawned easily by a thief at start so I just have someone escort me home then I’ll go mid, if you see every counter from 1v1 point of view you’re in the wrong game.

While thief resetting is intended, and I personally don’t have any problem with thieves using initiatives at all, and I don’t think thieves are overpowered at this point of the game, I do know that thieves counter almost all berserker classes except meditation guardian by having stealth on demand. But then I don’t have any solution to that because I really don’t have a problem with thieves at all. Sure sometimes it seems unfair that thieves counter everything, but then thieves only have few variances and have access to no amulet other than berserker’s. Same can be said for the mesmer, but hard counters do exist in this game and hard counters can be overcomed with player skill level, so I really don’t know.
Personally I believe thieves have insane mobility that is way too strong compare to that of other classes, but again buffing or nerfing in this case is not an option as that insane mobility is not properly utilized by most thieves anyway. The only thing I can think of is give more emphasis on proper use of initiative by reducing the recharge rate, but that would slow down the game.
I love fighting them with med guard power or condi after trait changes it will be even better imo, it makes sense that thief counter most zerkers but there are still bunkers,cele bruisers and condi
I don’t think I ever heard a MotD mesmer complain about thief. It’s very sad that only thief can use initiative.
